Re: The Nintendo Wii U Is Better Value For Money Than Xbox One Or PS4, Says Reggie

bubble_bear

It's the best value if you don't care about playing all the big titles most of the rest of the world will be playing... That's the harsh truth unfortunately. Yes, the Wii U is the cheapest, but it's also the odd man out. Yes, we have Mario Kart 8, but guess what we don't have... Pretty much every big third party title that has been released in the last year. So yeah... "best value" is pretty subjective.

Re: I'll Take Zelda And Mario Over Sharing Call Of Duty With Sony And Microsoft, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

@dumedum

Reggie is wrong. Clearly most people are picking CoD over Mario and Zelda, so he needs to stop pretending like those titles are still the hottest thing around.

Reggie saying things like "They don't have our games." makes Nintendo sound like the greedy loner kid on the block who doesn't let the rest of the kids on the street play with his ball. Sure the other kids will want that ball for a while, but eventually they get over it and move on. If I had to pick whether or not I wanted to play with the loner kid with his ball, or the rest of the kids in the neighborhood... well that's an easy decision.

In other words, Sony and Microsoft aren't sweating not having Mario, but Nintendo could certainly use some CoD.

Here's what Reggie essentially said: "Well, we wish we had CoD and those sales, but we don't... so let me make it sound as if we're totally fine with that, in fact we prefer to not have that game and those sales."

Riiiiiiiight. Nice try Reggie. That's like the kid who didn't get Jordans for Christmas while everyone else did, acting like he didn't even want them in the first place.

Where is the tie between 'pumping out FPS's' and Minecraft? At no point did I say Nintendo should just follow what the other systems are doing. I simply said Nintendo should have made Minecraft a priority earlier in the U's lifespan, probably more so than funding a niche action title. I'm not really bashing Bayo 2, I just don't think it will do much for sales, and obviously the Wii U needs sales.

@ModestFan93
and the rest of you that only see things in black & white - this is just my opinion. Life will be filled with people that have opinions different from yours. Get used to it.

HBO, where Game of Thrones is aired, is a cable network known for having very adult oriented content. Nintendo systems are not. So when they make 'edgy' choices such as funding Bayonetta 2 or opting to throw Samus in a bikini in Smash it seems even more drastic simply because everything else they do is super safe, wholesome family entertainment. Sony and Microsoft already host a lot of mature games, so the first Bayonetta fell right in with the mix on those systems. There's no controversy there.But to see a clip of a woman holding two guns and spread her legs while the camera zooms into her crotch alongside clips of a yarn dinosaur and a pink marshmallow floating around a clay world seems totally out of place.

I just don't see how Bayo 2 fits on the Wii U. Let's say it draws in a few people to buy the Wii U due to it's sexy action style. But after they beat it, what else are those people going to want to play? Captain Toad? It's like Nickelodeon airing one really sexualized adult program right after NickToons.

Nintendo is a for profit company, they are not ALL about the gameplay, in reality they are ALL about the Benjamins. And at the moment they are spending more than they are making. If the Wii U was selling like hot cakes we would not be having this conversation, and I would gladly ignore Bayo 2 because it wouldn't matter. But that's not the case - Nintendo isn't doing well, and thus it's interesting to talk about why or how they could do better. It's a natural point of interest. Just as a sports fan talks about things they think their favorite team could do better. Gamers became 'market analysts' or stopped always just saying 'man, that gameplay looks amazing' when we became adults and acquired critical thought. I still think plenty of things look amazing, but that's a pretty boring use of a comment section to just blindly praise everything...

Whatever point you are trying to make now no longer has anything to do with Minecraft or Bayonetta 2. But I'm bored, so here goes:

Minecraft was created by a tiny little indie company. It was not focus grouped or put together like some expensive AAA Frankenstein title your describing. This tiny little indie company released their unfinished game, and boom people loved it. It allows kids and adults to build awesome structures or play different games within its' worlds. It's like the ultimate Lego set. Instead of corporate think tanks or old men in suits deciding what features make it into Minecraft, the people that play the game designed most of the features, mechanics, graphics, and characters. Due to this untapped potential for creativity and simplicity the game slowly became a mega success almost completely by word of mouth. It not only promotes creativity, but doesn't focus on realistic graphics whatsoever and has single-handedly made pixel art cool among young kids. Everything you're ranting about - brown sludgey graphics, focus-grouped decisions, gimmicks, etc. are exactly what Minecraft ISN'T. So what are you arguing about?

"Yes, it does. I don't see high-pumped action, super-crazy combat, and awesome fanservice in a game about blocks."

Neither do I. I'm comparing marketing, mass appeal and sales, not gameplay mechanics.

But speaking of 'high-pumped action, super-crazy combat, and awesome fanservice.' Yes, the Wii U certainly has a shortage of that...

@Einherjar

"What good is the WiiU if it only offers the brown grey sludge found on any other system there is?"

"What the WiiU really needs in an audience, that isnt blinded by the mainstream media, by "doodbro" attitudes that claim "cartoony games are for kids and should die out", by critics who praise graphics over gameplay."

What does any of this have to do with Minecraft?

"Why would we need 3 consoles that offer the same unoriginal content? Whats the point, if there is nothing that stands out anymore ?"

Because not everyone can afford to have multiple systems so it would be nice to see some overlap for exceptional titles.

"Everyone who wants to play it already got a system to do it on. The enthusiasts play it on the PC, the casuals on their phones and tablets and the middle of the road console gamers probably all have access to a PS3 or a 360."

I don't own it. I don't really play casual games on my PC, and I don't see Minecraft as a very dualshock friendly experience. Thus, I would buy it on Wii U, as would many other people.

"This is by no means the thing that the WiiU so desperatly needs.
If the system needs to be saved from anything, than the people who rather want to see a slew of mainstream titles that appear on any device possible instead of more bold, "out of the comfort zone" and unique titles."

So you're saying the Wii U needs to be saved from obscurity by hosting more obscure games? Riiiiiight.

Both of you are making the point that Bayo 2 is a niche title. Bayo 2 is fan service for a very core sect of gamers. It will not move systems, it will not bring attention to the U. The Wii U does not need niche titles at this point. It needs popular titles that have mass appeal.

I was just at Target the other day and half the action figure aisle was Minecraft toys. There was one small row of Nintendo figures. At this point, Minecraft's pixely box art is probably more recognizable to younger players than Mario and Co. Nintendo needs the attention. An over-sexualized gun-toting witch isn't gonna bring it.

Re: Review: SPIKEY WALLS (Wii U eShop)

@Beetlejuice
Well actually my stance is simply "Just don't buy it." Whether or not crappy games should be "allowed" to exist or whether Nintendo should have some sort of tighter grasp on what comes to the eShop isn't part of my stance. I simply see it like this:

Deliberate crappy game sells well. More people make deliberately crappy games. Some people that can make good games may opt to make deliberate crappy games too. So over time we end up getting a lot of crappy games, and possibly less good games. This isn't an overnight thing, and this isn't just about SPIKEY WALLS. It's about trends.

Your stance of "I'm fine with whatever" is reasonable. I never said it wasn't, but that doesn't mean I'm going to fall in line with you and the other people on here who simply don't care either way. My attempts to coerce others or call them out for their poor choices doesn't threaten your freedom to continue making bad decisions. Buy all the crappy games you want.

Re: Review: SPIKEY WALLS (Wii U eShop)

If you complain about other people complaining...well where does that get anyone?

EDIT: Plus, if I had to compare the pointlessness of complaining about Spikey Walls vs. complaining about 'other people on the internet'... The former can actually alter other people's opinions, while the latter... well doesn't really do much at all.

@Beetlejuice
"I can't imagine how empty some of the lives of these people complaining are. Honestly, find something else that is actually important to be this passionate or concerned about!!"

Defending this game as adamantly as you have requires the same amount of passion and emptiness as does complaining about it, which in reality just boils down to very casually typing up responses on one's phone while at work. I don't think anyone is genuinely angry about this or losing sleep.

@Darknyht

SPIKEY WALLS being a rip-off of Flappy Bird is not something that's being left up to the public to decide. RCMADIAX straight up said it in his reveal:

"The new title is called SPIKEY WALLS, and many of you will recognize it as a popular spin-off of the famous “Flappy Bird” games that are dominating the mobile app stores these days. "

Though, just to be clear I am not joining in on this IP theft argument.

@brandonbwii said: I was actually going to buy this but @RCMADIAX comments about crappy games has pushed me away.

That's great news!

@brandonbwii said: As for people like @gage_wolf stop being so vocal about your dislike. Just let things happen.

Hmmm. You may not realize it, but RCMADIAX's comment where he pretty much fesses up to his greedy intentions and bitterness toward "crappy games" outselling his games came as a response to me being vocal about my dislike. It's fine that you'd rather me shut up about it, but I think you may be missing the cause and effect relationship in this situation.

Re: From the Forum: To Buy or Not to Buy? SPIKEY WALLS Fires Debate as Developer Defends Project

bubble_bear

@Kaze_Memaryu

Yes, how noble of @RCMADIAX to blame the Wii U consumer base for his decision to rip off an already well known ripped-off game...

Also, maybe you should just read the thread... All the points you're trying to make (aside from strangely thanking RCMADIAX) are there. No one is pointing fingers at him saying "WHY!? WHY?". No one is raging on, no one is whining. I told people to not buy the game... in a pretty casual way.

Re: From the Forum: To Buy or Not to Buy? SPIKEY WALLS Fires Debate as Developer Defends Project

bubble_bear

@World
RCMADIAX up to this point has made original, cheap games. I haven't bought any of them because micro-games don't appeal to me on the Wii U because I can play those type of games on my phone.. which I do on my commute to work. I don't have a hatred for $1 games.

My plea for people to not buy this particular game was due to this all of a sudden shift in quality and tone that RCMADIAX even fesses up to in his response. He essentially says "my original games didn't sell well compared to these other crappy games, so I'm gonna make an even crappier game." This kind of outlook is poisonous for the home console market if it catches on. I won't support it, and don't think other gamers should either. That's my whole point.

He even goes as far as to capitalize my point "DON'T BUY IT." So let's NOT BUY IT.

Re: Poll: Tell Us What You Think of the New Nintendo 3DS

For the love of Pete, plan ahead Nintendo... why weren't these features implemented from the get go? We didn't invent dual sticks in the last 3 years.If they release a new Wii U with upgraded features in the next year or so, I'm ending my strained Nintendo worship.

Re: Dahku Creations Announces Departure From Game Development

bubble_bear

It's a bummer these guys' dream of being a successful game dev didn't work out, but I can't say I'm suprised. Chubbins looked absolutely horrid from an art direction standpoint, and Soon Shine looked like a free browser game. I'm not looking for cheap experiences on my console. I want substantial, thoughtful games.

Sorry dudes but there is a reason people pour years and money into making games. You can't expect to pump out some cheap looking crap every few months and expect to get rich, and I'm glad that's the case. I don't want to see the eShop go the way of the App store, and the first step is simply decreasing the flow of this cheap crap.
