The start of another week means one thing for eager Nintendo gamers in Europe — Nintendo Download Update details. This week's list brings us a huge range of options, including new titles and Virtual Console entries on Wii U and 3DS, along with Zelda discounts, a host of Rising Star Games offers and more besides. There's a lot to get through, so let's get on with it.
Wii U eShop
Teslagrad (Rain Games, €14.99 / £13.99) — A puzzle platformer with elements of action also thrown in, this stylish début effort from Rain Games has you manipulating magnets, earning new abilities and progressing onwards to uncover the mysteries of the world. We'll get cracking on a review, and we were certainly impressed with this game in our first impressions last year.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Mario Ball (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) — Known as Mario Pinball Land in North America, this is a Mario pinball game to reinforce the fact that there are few genres left untouched by Mario spin-offs. For those that missed it on the Game Boy Advance this will surely be tempting, as it fuses Mario worlds and recognisable characters with some simple flipping gameplay. Watch out for our incoming review.
Wii U eShop — The Legend of Zelda Promotion
There is a series of discounts to celebrate the upcoming release of Hyrule Warriors, and if any Zelda title (download) is owned on a Nintendo Network account before its release there'll be a 10% discount on the download version of the new game in its first week of release, priced €44.99 / £35.99 instead of €49.99 / £39.99.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Nintendo, €4.99 / £3.43 until 18th September, normally €7.99 / £5.49)
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49 until 18th September, normally €6.99 / £6.29)
Wii U eShop Demo
Wooden Sen'SeY (Neko Entertainment, free)
3DS eShop
Comic Workshop (Collavier Corporation, €5.99 / £5.39) — As the title makes clear, this is an app that enables you to create and share comic books utilising a variety of tools. The sharing aspect has been flawed — though an English online gallery now seems to be available — but this is nevertheless an impressive piece of software for budding artists and comic writers; our Comic Workshop review has full details on what it can do.
3DS Virtual Console
Mega Man Xtreme 2 (Capcom, €4.99 / £4.49) — The second of these Game Boy Color X remixes to arrive on the 3DS, and while we were a little underwhelmed by the first this certainly represents an improvement. It draws elements from the first three Mega Man X games and adds a few more features besides, and does a solid job on the limited hardware; be sure to check out our Mega Man Xtreme 2 review for full details.
3DS Retail Downloads
Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip & Kipper Vol. 1 (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99) — Available from 12th September.
Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip & Kipper Vol. 2 (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99) — Available from 12th September.
Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip & Kipper Vol. 3 (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99) — Available from 12th September.

Can't wait for Minish Cap and LTTP!
Bit Trip Saga, Virtues Last Reward and Link's awakening for me.
Given that this week doesn't have Mega Man X3 or Mega Man 7, I'll take advantage of the sale on Minish Cap.
Teslagrad and that Wii u demo. Been waiting for teslagrad for what feels like ages xP
Just the 2 Wii U Zeldas for me. I'm glad I waited.
Might get Teslagrad this week but maybe not will wait for reviews.
Teslagrad FINALLY!!
@Jazzer94
Here are your reviews but keep in mind, the Wii U version will be even better. I'm sure of it
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/teslagrad
Teslagrad is definitely interesting, but I'm not fully convinced yet...
Will be picking up the Oracle games and Minish Cap.
@Vriess Thanks though I meant Wii U version reviews, I'll see what NL think.
I'm thinking about minish cap, everybody seems to love that game!
Will pick up Mario Pinball, I used to enjoy that game when I had my GBA.
Will get Teslagrad and Minish Cap. Awesome week!
A Wii U demo?? It's been ages...
For me it's Hakuoki and MMX2, since I already own most of the Zelda games and VLR, and don't own a WiiU.
Hoping Australia actually gets Teslegrad, unlike Shovel Knight, Armillo and Scream Kitty
Also, I despised Mario Pinball, purely because Pokemon Pinball is FAR superior. I'd love them to release Pokemon Pinball R/S on the Wii U VC. It is by far the best pinball game around, it has smooth realistic physics, huge amount of content and my main hope, is it sells well enough to reignite my hope for a modernised update for XY with all Pokemon, multiple boards etc on 3DS! Man that would rock!
Already have link to the past so just minish cap for me, can't resist a reduced VC title!!
Tons of things for me to consider buying. See how the chips fall I guess.
Waiting for Teslagrad to be on sale.
Comic Workshop for me.
Wow, now that's a high price for Teslagrad when it has been already in several PC sales for less than 5€ in the past year.
We are getting a Wii U demo? Cool, now that's a sight for sore eyes. The eShop certainly could use a lot more demos.
Wanted to buy minish cap, but was completely shocked to see that it's on wiiu and not 3ds. Seriously, that's facepalmingly stupid.
If anyone can get over the fact that Minish Cap is on the Wii U instead of the 3DS (I know; it's stupid) then I'd recommend it highly. One of my favourite Zelda titles; its a blast.
I will get Minish Cap. Not getting a 50hz version of A Link to the Past. (I might be willing to get the GBA version).
My 3DS is starting to gather dust and my mighty Wii U has taken over.
Minish cup for me, I've never played it. Been enjoying playing my other GBA VC title, Fire Emblem using just my gamepad and I'll do the same with this.
Review of Teslagrad, would be good NL. I'll wait for a sale anyway, as this does seem slightly expensive.
Nice to see a Wii U demo on a game, I'm undecided whether to get.
@Reverandjames - I agree with you. However, playing GBA VC games on my gamepad only is really a pleasant experience.
Would definitely of grabbed The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past if it wasn't 50hz snail crawling junk shame.
Will get Teslagrad, both Oracle Of... games, Super Mario Ball, Links Awakening and the Wooden Sen'Sey demo. Got Link to the Past & Minish Cap already, otherwise I'd get them too. Now THIS is a good week Nintendo!
Wow! I can't remember the last time I saw a new demo pop up for Wii u!! I wasn't too interested by that game till now but I'll try it out......since its free and all
@afroevan: Don't worry. Teslagrad is coming to Australia. We won't be getting Wooden Sen'sey though.
I just hope that Comic Workshop is released here. Software of that nature doesn't need a classification, so there's no real reason why they wouldn't release it here. They should also release the Phonics games here as they do not need a classification either (though I doubt that they will be released here as they seem to be tailored for the European market).
@Reverandjames - Will agree with you again.
Was going to buy Wooden Sen Sey just for offering a demo, but a challenging game that TW gave a 5/10 really isn't for me. If it got a 5/10 b/c it was too easy I'ld be more likely to get it.
@XyVoX Yeah i refuse to buy any VC game that is in PAL format. (Still angry they released Super Metroid that way)
@whodatninja Yeah when i got my Wii U MK8 bundle the first 2 games i wanted to download was Super Metroid & The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past couldn't believe in 2014 Nintendo release 50hz junk even stranger is many of the WiiU Vc games are the 60hz versions and someone at Nintendo thought i would be a good idea to release 2 of the top Snes games in 50hz complete madness i say, also the main reason i was unable to purchase most of the Wii's VC library because all but a select few were all in 50hz..
Nothing for me... everything I'm waiting for will propably be released ´during the last two months of the year.
What's 50hz stopping you people from buying games?
@Porky
Elitism or some other kind of thing. Ii have played both versions, and it's not really that noticable.
Anyway, when was the release of Teslagrad in physical form in Europe?
Hoping "new 3DS" opens the gateway for some GBA love. Why no TG16 games yet outside of Japan? We will prolly get the 2nd batch of M2 ports come this winter where is my golden axe in 3D lol
Mario Pinball was sooooooooo bad.
@1wiierdguy I hope Virtues Last Reward has been patched since I played the physical version. There was a bug that stopped me loading my progress, and the European publisher was hopeless in trying to get it resolved for me.
It's strange that LttP is cheaper than Minish cap, given ones SNES and the other GBA. A lot of good discounts this week, I'd definitely recommend Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns to anyone who is thinking about it. More so than Hometown Story, I was left feeling dissapointed with that.
Cubemen 2 for me.
This is the second time UK has seen a half off sale on Zero Escape- really hoping we see it just once in NA.
i was unable to purchase most of the Wii's VC library because all but a select few were all in 50hz.
I'll bet you didn't have a PAL SNES back in the early nineties then.
I haven't heard 50hz vs. 60hz arguments since Super Play magazine.
@Bass_X0 Exactly short story from a fellow gamer previously owning a Japanese Megadrive i bought imported and then playing the UK 50hz games i was well aware of the difference 60hz games were Full screen, crisper graphics 17.5 % faster etc i as well as almost everyone that played on my Megadrive blatantly understood the huge difference between the 2 speeds so in December 1990 i sold my Megadrive collection was 17yrs old at college at bought an imported Super Famicom i was literally one of a handful of people at the time that had this unit in the UK, when Mario Kart came out the UK the 150cc speed was the 60hz version 100cc speed, some people dont get it its not just the games animation is faster the music is faster control response is faster but the game was never intended to be played or run in 50hz so it is in almost every way a worse version of the game. Put it this way think of any modern game you play now and know well then if you were to run it 17.5% slower your gonna know just how bad that game now plays its Huge.
Teslagrad!!!
Getting both Zeldas on Wii U!
Minish Cap for me, one of the few Zelda games I don't actually own (though I have played it).
Mario pinball it will be. Teslagrad goes on the list (waiting for a discount, and the Nintendolife review).
As for Alttp: Seeing as this is the snes-version, does that mean it has the unaltered ice-palace? Because my gba version has a ice-palace that has been slightly changed. If this version has the unaltered ice-palace, I might download.
Let's see what those morons at NOA do on Thursday! Ugh!!
I'd rather get the retail version of Teslagrad.
Nice to see a Wii U demo.
I'll get A Link to the Past because it's on sale, though I have little intention to play it 'til I've cleared my Zelda backlog. I may get Bit Boy an all.
The HW "fan discount " is funny, since when you have to buy "LoZ" game to get it.. which means that the "discount" goes there. It's more like, "you get old LoZ game for free"
"I'd rather get the retail version of Teslagrad"
Oh, I forgot about that. Same here, if the price is right.
@XyVoX Mario Kart was optimized a bit. I never realised it was so when I got the switch installed into my SNES I still played it at 60hz. Now all versions seem to slow.
@Bass_X0 Super Play was the first I really knew about it. So I got my SNES modded. (Think the advertisement for who I got to do it was in the magazine).
Contrary to what Nintendo says if this is true then A Link to the Past was never optimized at all.

I want to get Hakuoki in the sale but my 3ds shop is still showing it at the full price? It's supposed to be on sale from the 11th so what's up with that? Does it not appear until a certain time or something, its already past 1pm?
Teslagrad is 8,99EU on Humble Store and it's DRM-free multiplatform. Nintendo, get a grip.
I would like to buy it on WiiU but it's not going to happen.
@unrandomsam The only optimisation done to Link to the Past was to the music, which was sped up to compensate. Nothing else beyond that I'm afraid.
The Wii U eShop page for the game does helpfully states that ALTTP's "Gameplay, demos and animations" run at PAL/50Hz, before stating that the aspect ratio has been corrected.
I've got the game on GBA, which runs at the proper speed, so I'm not likely to buy the game even at a discounted rate. Might grab a copy of Link's Awakening while it's on offer though.
