Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

@MetalKingShield Yes, professional reviewers have to able to judge a game beyond their personal tastes and be able to evaluate and acknowledge quality. For example, I know for sure Red Dead Redemption 2 is an incredibly well made game, however, I didn’t enjoy playing it. Prefer something else. I’d still wouldn’t question the top ratings this game got because I can see the quality in it and that it deserves those ratings. Just because it’s not my cup of tea (as the new Zelda formula isn’t it for the GFinity reviewer) it doesn’t deserve to be downgrade. I won’t play it and it won’t be in any of my favorite lists ever, but it’s still an amazing game.

@WallyWest If all a professional critic is giving is their opinion rather than evaluate the different aspects of the game fairly, then it does NOT add any value. I can listen to anybody then. If a critical review does not reflect how well crafted a game is, it has no point for me as a consumer. I want to know beforehand what I am spending my money on and how well it the product is made. Just for that aspect of the craft alone, TotK getting a measly 6/10 is very questionable to the least. An 8/10 maybe, but not a 6. That's an overload of opinion and for me doesn't say anything about the product's quality.

@WallyWest A professional critics review is not a random opinion as you make it sound. Critics surely bring their own perspectives and biases into their reviews and hence they’re never entirely objective (which I didnt said say they were). However, professional critics strive to be as objective as possible by evaluating a work based on established criteria and standards within their field of expertise while brining into account the broader context of the work and its intended audience. If you don’t do that, you’re just giving your random opinion. I find it rather amazing that some people still need explaining about what a professional critic is in 2023…

@B_BIackNinja_N Kinda disagree about the opinion part. A critic's review should not be based on personal preference/opinion, but be a critical (as it says in the name CRITIC) dissection of the piece that one is looking at. Meaning, judge all the different aspects of its creation (gameplay, sound, graphics, story, and so on) and come to a summed up score/conclusion. If a critic just needs to give their opinion, then everyone can be a critic. There is no way in hell that TotK can get a 6/10 if judged in this way. That score is personally biased.

Re: Witcher 3 Dev Admits He Overcrowded One Map With Too Many Points Of Interest

I‘ve recently been playing Witcher 3 again and was once again really annoyed with all the question marks on the map. They take away ALL the exploration and discovery feeling for me since I know I will (for the vast part) NOT find anything in the work if there isn’t a question mark on the map. Ruins the surprise completely for me and kinda not tolerable anymore after BotW showed and wowed us with how to do it the right way.

Re: Video: Rainway Dev Shows Off Cuphead Co-Op Running On Nintendo Switch

Yes you could play games cheaper through Steam, but it wouldn't be the same than owning them directly on the Switch. You would still need to start/run your PC for it and you would probably loose the ease of access the Switch currently is triumphant in. Second, none of the games can be played outside of your Wifi zone, so they are not truly portable. So I don't see Nintendo taking a big loss with this. On the contrary the prospect of playing your PC games in bed etc. is likely to attract new customers and create more hype around the Switch. I know I would be thrilled to play Skyrim modded in my hands at home.

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The 3D Zelda That Enthusiasts Expected?

andisart

@PsychoCrusher You're too naive too see the politics of running a site like NL. And missing my point made anyway. This was just as predictable an opinion piece than if BotW wouldn't have been revolutionary. Just profiting from whatever is the contrary of the general concensus. A typical Nintendolife (although not that frequently), if you fail to see this happening here you are blind

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The Game That Zelda Enthusiasts Expected?

andisart

Ok this is an opinion, fair enough, but yet a predictable article and click-bait, calculating on controversy. A habbit I have to say unfortunately Nintendolife regularly seems to exhibit...

The Zelda series was in DESPERATE need for a refrehsment of its formula. This had become obvious after Skyward Sword (despite that titles unrivaled marching into territory of motion-control use). If the BotW had NOT changed up everything so drastically, you would now write an opinion piece about just that.

BotW delieverd a reinvention of the open-world genre, despite being Nintendo's truely first entry in this genre, and garnered universal acclaim worldwide, with being the 4th best rated ever game on Metacritic and Gamerankings.

So what do you want, really? Strong case of either Cant be satisfied whatsoever, of more likely, milking on controversy for a click-bait article.

Fail! You know better, Nintendolife.

Re: Review: Earth Atlantis (Switch eShop)

Surprised by the high score. Me too have heard more mixed reaction so far, but limited. Repetitiveness and frustrating finding and rebuilding power-ups on death seem to be the biggest annoyance. So far holding off from a purchase.

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

@dronesplitter Nintendolife has always been doing that once in so often. It's what led me to leave a few years back. I only came back for the Switch, but this occassional flaring over-opinion with a negative touch is common still apparently. Similar story: two weeks ago when the weekly chart for Japan had Switch sales dropped (very likely due to shortages) the article had a sensational title like Switch Sales fall dramatically in Japan...

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

Kinda silly to post a lenghty opinion piece for this game when you only now played it for the first time. Those points mentioned that may not have aged well didn't feel like this at the time. This was a true sequel to Mario 64 and better, technically, in many ways. It's like playing Mario 64 now for the first time and saying "urgh, I regret I wasted my time on this blocky and clumsy game, I rather play a modern proper platformer". Aparts, I can't fully agree on the controls, I thoroughly enjoyed running around Isla Delfino back in the day and bouncing off walls.

Re: GameStop Gets Major Nintendo Switch Restock in the US, But Only In Stores

andisart

@NintendoPete @setezerocinco
It's not strange, the US has been having stock issues since release. Plus, the situation in Germany has only been really relieved in the last couple of weeks... Before that there was little chance to get one quickly on Amazon for retail price or see them in the shop. I live here too and have monitored the situation. It changed around the release of Splatoon and the weeks after. So I dont know why this should be surprising

Re: Feature: The Switch Report - Three Months of Nintendo's New System

I'm also super happy with it, I havent enjoyed a Nintendo system like this since the Gamceube. The portabilty/docking to TV truly feels like a game changer to me, something new and never before experienced.

Also just to have my favorite HD games on the go in a great and sizeable screen is amazing. I now wish I could take all games on the go like that, also from other platforms.

What contributes here is the quick accessibility, re-enter where you left of in a game just a second after you power the Switch back up from sleep. Access settings, eShop etc in no time and without loadung times. This is for me top userfriendlieness.

Love the simple UI and general straightforwardness of the console: it's clearly a gaming console, and I really love that. Like the GC was purely made for gaming. Smart move by Nintendo in a time when we are oversaturated by multimedia functionality in devices.

Games I have been enjoying: BotW, Fast RMX, Snipperclips, Snakepass, World of Goo, MK8 DX.

I'm excited about the Switch, its success and the great things to come. I feel it's finally a great time to be Nintendo fan again. The company seems to have learned a lot from the mistakes with WiiU.

As they've been saying: Never underestimate Nintendo
