Motion controls are great when implemented correctly, same as pointer and touch screen controls.

Obviously motion controls aren't suited for every game.

With that said Sony is making a big push with PS Move as the only way to get the full experience of PS VR.
They are literally encouraging developers to make PS VR games with Move in mind, same goes for their internal studios.

The rest of the VR companies are using motion controls as the way to fully experience VR.

VR is making sure that motion controls get a second wind.

Even Dualshock 4, Steam controller, and smartphones all use some form of motion controls.

The benefits of SD cards for gaming out weights the cheapness of Blu-ray for gaming.

You could literally get rid of load times, installs, and other issues by using big enough SD cards.

You can literally have a 256GB SD card that has faster read/write times than a 50GB Blu-ray.

You forget how badly people hated and protested putting in PINs and other data into Club Nintendo to get the points and prizes.
It was widely reported in the media and on social media.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

Xenocity

@toxibunny
Actually SD cards are closing the gap with discs in price.

I mean discs will always be cheaper to produce, but the price gap is only a few dollars now and less if you doing bulk order.

SD cards and the like have the benefit of not being scratched and faster read/write speeds while holding similar data sizes.

It's Microsoft who is pushing digital only future, because the profit a lot from it due to them being in the networking and server business.

Microsoft has teamed up with EA, Activision, WB, and Ubisoft to make gaming digital only (original plan with Xbox One).

But ISPs have blocked users from PSN, XBL, Steam and Nintendo eShop for downloading too many GBs.

ISPs also regularly throttle PSN, XBL, eShop and Steam downloads. They do the same for online play as well.

Gaming consumers hate inputting codes to an absurd hatred.

@River3636
Music industry is definitely not a test case.

Songs have small file sizes, which are easy to download even on dial up.
You can fit 1000s on a small 2GB USB stick.

With music being sold as DRM free on online, it was only a matter of time before piracy returned in a huge fashion.

I know plenty of people who have returned to buying CDs and Records because they have better sound than digital files and they don't have to deal with horrible online practices.

I keep seeing new record stores opening up selling brand new records.
Most major albums now release on records again and record sales are rapidly increasing (well going from nothing to something is big).

Movies, software and games are huge in file size.

1 Hour of SD Program is ~4-8 GBs of data.
1 Hour of HD 720p Programming is between 20 - 40 GBs (based on compression and audio).
1 Hour of 1080p is normally over 40GBs.

This is why ISPs hate movie/TV streaming and regularly blocking and throttling sites like Netflix and iTunes.

A game like Assassin's Creed, FIFA, Madden, Halo, Uncharted etc... run between 20-50GBs+ this gen for each game.

Most PC/Mac Software ranges from 10GBs - 50GBs+ depending on what it is.

Mobile software can be as big as 10GBs+ now.

The current internet and ISPs aren't built for these huge file sizes and won't be for decades if that.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

@River3636
Actually digital music sales are collapsing.
They are down double digits over the past few years, as people have literally stopped buying digital music.

Music Streaming is stagnate

Physical music sales are rising over past 4 years according to sales trackers.

Piracy is growing rapidly in the music industry and is eating digital sales.

Yeah don't use music sales as a metric.

@Peach64
Actually Sony has limit of 2 PS4s per PSN ID.
One has to be set as the primary system.

You literally have to go through a process of delinking it from PSN, if you want to swap the second PS4.

I do believe you can only have 2 PSN IDs per Vita.

Microsoft has limit to how many systems you can use your XBL IDs as well.
Though it is much harder to delink a system from your account.

This is done to prevent piracy and stealing.

For the rest it's:

Apple/iTunes account - 5 computers (max), iOS (i'm not sure about)
Steam - 5 computers (max)
Origin - 5 computers (max)
Windows Store - 5 devices (max)

All of these require you to remove that computer/device from your account if you want another when you are at max limit.

When you deactivate/delink a device, you will lose the purchases on that device.

When Hacked:

Sony will normally banned your PSN account outright once they realize the hack or it's reported.
You then have to go through a process of getting legal documentation to prove you are the legitimately hacked.

Most people lose with Sony and lose all their digital content.
You also run the risk of your systems being banned from PSN.

Microsoft locks your account and access to your digital purchases for a set time for you to prove you were hacked.
if they don't accept your information, your XBL ID and your system are banned from XBL with all digital purchases gone.

Same goes for Windows 10 store.

Steam outright bans your account and it's very hard to get Valve to reinstate your account, even though you were hacked. You will literally lose everything since Valve is very heavy handed.

Origin, EA is the best on this.

Apple is the nicest one, but they too lock your account and purchases until you prove your issue.

I'm not sure what Google Play does.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

Nintendo isn't trying to get people to abandon discs with My Nintendo.

It literally makes no sense for them to insert reward codes in physical purchases, when the whole damn world hated it to the point of protesting in the media and on social media.
I mean countless articles were posted over the years decrying Nintendo's forcing people to enter pins to get Club Nintendo points.

Why would Nintendo returned to it after being roasted by the media and dealing with massive consumer outrage on social media?

With 3DS and Wii U being both of the market by the end of 2107, there is no reason to do support those physical purchases and risk tarnishing the new My Nintendo brand by associating it with 3DS and Wii U in the eyes of the public.

Club Nintendo users hated hated hated entering in PINs and information to get prizes. This cannot be understated.

Also It was very expensive to manufacture the physical prizes for the Western territories and even more expensive to mail them.

With the majority of Global Club Nintendo users constantly protesting the physical rewards and keeping the backlash going on social media until Club Nintendo over how they "hated" the physical prizes.

Hell even the media reported how Nintendo was poorly treating it's fans with the physical merchandise of Club Nintendo.

It didn't help that Club Nintendo users the world over complained about the digital offerings not being original enough and exclusive to Club Nintendo.

Everyone seems to have forgotten how badly Club Nintendo was hated in each territory by the global userbase.

My Nintendo is supposed to rectify the issues that generated the 6+ year long campaign that Club Nintendo users ran against Nintendo in the media and through social media.

Nintendo no longer makes you enter information, you get exclusive My Nintendo digital titles, you get current games and discount of current games, and lastly you get DLC

Lastly the in game achievements net you My Nintendo points to spend on.
So you are literally getting spendable points for playing games and using the service.

This puts every literal consumer rewards program to shame.

If you hate new My Nintendo rewards program, then you obviously haven't used other rewards programs.

Many people are taking to social media and reedit to protest how this new program functions, if you wish to joint hem

Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?

@DarthNocturnal
I wouldn't know, I have 3MB DSL with 250GB monthly cap (yeah I do a lot online outside of gaming).

I'd rather have cheaper systems with low internal storage and external HDD than the other way around.
I don't want to have to pay the price for a huge internal HDD when I can buy a bigger external HDD at a much cheaper price.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?

Xenocity

@efaulk84
If Nintendo releases their soundtracks for purchase (or any other company for that matter), they are required by law to allow limited fair use and limited licensing to other industries for usage.

Nintendo doesn't want to license their music out to other companies and people.

This why NoA and NoE have said why they are holding back.

Thought to be fair most gaming companies don't release soundtracks.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?

Xenocity

@DarthNocturnal
I bet you're in the minority Steam and Xbox One.

Valve regularly has to deal with media interviews about the size of Steam games being too big and causing users to constantly upgrade their HDDs.
Regular Steam users download huge games on a regular basis.

Microsoft was forced to release the bigger HDD models of Xbox One due to criticisms from consumers who were maxing out their HDDs. That's why they allowed you use use external HDDs on the system.

Sony does allow you change the PS4 Internal HDDs, but they like Steam do not allow external HDDs.

I mean I have a 320GBs HDD hooked up to my Wii U and it works nearly perfectly (Only paid $60 for it).

Anyways I don't see digital retail releases of major games if ever due to retailers not wanting, majority of consumers not wanting it, and ISPs enforcing strict caps and speeds.

Not to mention all the legalities involved regarding consumer rights.

There is no way any retailer in NA will support a full digital systems anytime soon due to profit margins on retail games and systems.

I mean digital music sales declining at double digit rates these days and have been declining since early 2010.
Physical music sales having been rising year after year by significant amounts for the past few years.
Music piracy is now rising faster than streaming.

Same thing is happening to ebooks, digital movies, Android Apps etc...

Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?

Xenocity

I buy the majority of my games on physical because it's cheaper and my internet cap would easily be breached if I downloaded all the games I wanted (this the norm on most ISPs in NA).

I mean I bought Pokken brand new at launch an hour a go for $22.93 (yay retailer rewards program).

I have no problem buying small games, retro games and indie titles as digital only.

Though I don't expect cross buy either, since Microsoft makes you pay money to get the Windows 10 Store copy of the same game you own on Xbox One.

Sony doesn't do cross buy for most PS4/PSV games, due to how it went on PS3.

With Nintendo allowing us to use standard memory cards on handhelds and external HDDs on consoles, I have plenty of GBs to fill.

Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy

Xenocity

@Zelda_Rocks
Well to be fair Nintendo received tons of backlash over the physical rewards it offered through Club Nintendo.
Every time they added something it created a massive backlash that the gaming media reported on.
Many of those who were upset took to Twitter and Facebook to air their hate.

Club Nintendo in every territory was well hated.

It didn't help they had to enter codes to get coins.

Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy

Xenocity

This new program addresses all the issues everyone had with the old Club Nintendo.

1) The issue of entering codes and doing surveys are gone!

2) The Japanese hated their physical prizes, NA hated their physical prizes (well I liked them), EU hated their physical prizes, AUS hated their physical prizes... Well it's all gone, MOST SHOULD BE HAPPY!!

3) The lack of digital games and digital content was a huge issue with Club Nintendo... So Nintendo made the new program all digital.

4)The users of Club Nintendo hated the coupon that were sent out in NA for $5-$15 off of new physical games. So Nintendo killed that too.

There is nothing wrong with tying digital purchases to gold coins to digital game rewards.
If you don't want digital games, you don't have to deal with the digital games rewards.

I mean the new rewards program isn't as good as Microsoft giving you $.25 and a digital card for your birthday.

It's not as good as Sony having a PS loyalty promotion on PSN (twice a year) where you spend $100 and get $15 back in credit or $150 and get $25 back in credit.

I bet everyone would be happy if Nintendo scrapped this program and adopted Sony or Microsoft's rewards program.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's PlayStation VR Launch Adds Pressure to Nintendo's Holiday - and Perhaps NX - Plans

Xenocity

@bitleman
It's called the market finding it's natural resting point.

Every market goes through an expansion stage due it not having any competition, then when competition shows up it shrinks until it finds it's natural resting point.

Many markets/industries are going through this stage of finding their natural resting point.

These markets includes smartphones (yes sales are down from the peak in 2014 last year and are expected to sell even less this year), PC market (almost 7 years in decline), Tablet market (4 years of shrinking sales), watches, housing market, car market, etc...

It's not just dedicated gaming hardware market that is rebalancing to a natural resting point.

You can't have ever increasing sales forever.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's PlayStation VR Launch Adds Pressure to Nintendo's Holiday - and Perhaps NX - Plans

Xenocity

@KingofSaiyans
I just saw the thread on NeoGaf stating that it has sold out at many retailers including Amazon.

NeoGaf is saying it's scalpers and Sony releasing low shipments for the first few months.

It's safe to assume that Sony won't do a large scale production until there are proven demand.

Also it's safe to assume that scalpers were waiting in hand to cash in on the VR fans.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's PlayStation VR Launch Adds Pressure to Nintendo's Holiday - and Perhaps NX - Plans

Xenocity

I will never understand why VR supports attack everyone and everything that disagrees with them.
They openly attack people, publications, analysts, businesses, medical professionals, and the media who disagree with them.

They have become as bad Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders supporters

There is even a growing chorus of medical institutions and medical professionals issuing warnings on the damage VR can do to eyes, brain, ears, human development and children.

There was a big report a few weeks ago on the local news here in Detroit with top tier medical professionals warning the public of the extreme health risks associated with VR (We have a few of the major medical institutions of the world here in Metro Detroit).

The world media has been reporting on how dangerous VR is for the population.

Anyways I wouldn't worry about VR posing a threat to any company other than the other VR companies.
The major content creators aren't lining up to make content unless the VR companies pay top dollar to make content for them.

Sony had to pay EA to make Star Wars Battlefront for PSVR and it's the only VR EA game in EA's pipleline for the forseeable future. It's being treated by EA as a "Test" game to see if there is enough demand from VR owners for games.

Most 3rd parties are waiting to see if there is big enough games sales before supporting to VR.

Movie studios are ignoring VR, Music industry is ignoring VR, App makers aren't jumping on board, Microsoft isn't taking it seriously etc...

Also to get full VR experience you need to use motion controls, which core and "hardcore" gamers hate.

Right now most of the content on VR platorms fit the "casual" and indie gaming definitions.

Also people need to know Sony said that PSVR is capped at 1080p and PS3 visuals.

Re: My Nintendo Rewards Start on 17th March in Japan, Alongside Miitomo Launch

Xenocity

I don't know why they bothered with another rewards program.
I mean the majority of people hated Club Nintendo everywhere it was available (yes the plenty of Japanese hated Club Nintendo Japan for being not as good as the others).

It's funny that Microsoft and Nintendo both have a rewards program, yet are getting trounced by Sony who killed their rewards program a few years ago to save money.

Though this new program is better than most rewards programs offered by the majority of companies.

I'll probably make out like bandit like I did on Club Nintendo!

Many other reviewers have stated the fighting mechanics are too complex.

Others have said the fighting mechanics are made for casual gamers.

Many reviewers are complaining about how awful the graphics are, while many are praising the graphics...

The reviews are very split on this game...

If it's true that most gamers buy games based on reviews, then I wonder how this bodes for the sales.

I will be getting this Friday...!

Re: Editorial: Accessibility Through Optional 'Invincibility' Buffs Can Only Be a Positive for Nintendo

Xenocity

@Yorumi
Do you not understand how expensive and hard it is to get people to buy MMOs and standard games?

Most MMOs have died or are in the process of winding down because they don't make enough money.

Even if they do make money, it's not enough to appease shareholders (most are publicly traded).

With ever rising development costs, consumers demanding faster releases and top tier graphics, and shareholders demanding ever increasing profits, it's only a matter of time before another contraction takes place in the gaming industry.

People and gamers have been proven to ignore difficult games.
People and gamers also prefer established IPs as well.

Now with the bulk of the market ignoring anything that isn't AAA Blockbuster, shooters, and sports, not many are going to be willing to invest in different games.

Now if Steam, PSN, and XBL stats are correct the majority rarely finish 1 game, let alone 2 games a year.

A shorter game is going to net your more sales than a long game these days due to most people not having the time to complete them.

TL:DR it's too expensive for most MMOs to succeed these days, easy games sell way better, and very few games are completed to the end on XBL, PSN and Steam.

Re: Editorial: Accessibility Through Optional 'Invincibility' Buffs Can Only Be a Positive for Nintendo

@Socar
Conquest is one of the hardest FE games ever made.
With that said the game heavily uses RNGing which benefits the CPU characters.

Conquest normal mode = FE normal modes
Conquest hard mode = hard mode + in FE games
etc...

I beat the first 10 chapters on hard mode wondering why the game was so difficult.

I thought the game is difficult enough on normal mode.
By the time I reached chapter 20, I already spent 50 hours playing it.
Chapter 20 kept defeating me with great ease, I gave up after 5+ hours of trying to beat said chapter.
It just wasn't worth it to me to keep going, so I switched the game to casual mode just to beat the chapter and not having to lose anyone.

This is coming from someone who beat every previous Fire Emblem gaming without losing a character on classic mode.

I'll never play Conquest again after this.

The CPU just gets too damn lucky with misses and critical hits especially when crit is < 5%.
Yet my characters hardly get misses when the CPU, even when it is < 50%.

Yeah I don't have the will or the time to beat Conquest on classic, when what I've done will net me over 70+ hours when I am done.

Re: Editorial: Accessibility Through Optional 'Invincibility' Buffs Can Only Be a Positive for Nintendo

Some people have trouble with any real difficulty in gaming.
Dexterity, hand eye cordination, 3D space and others don't come easily to large part of the population.

Many people just have a low tolerance to being frustrated and want an option to tone it as far down as possible (Especially if they are playing FE:Fates Conquest).

It has been shown time and again that the harder game is, the less it sells. and vice versa.

Re: Editorial: Accessibility Through Optional 'Invincibility' Buffs Can Only Be a Positive for Nintendo

Xenocity

@BLPs
The press might cause everyone else to buy the game or demo it to see what the uproar is all about.
It might even sell well.
I mean even UK's most important gaming and computer publication is even reporting the backlash to this announcement. Yes MCVUK closing paragraph to the invincibility mode talks about the backlash over it.

I truly believe all the negative press FE: Fates received in January and February about Nintendo censoring and ruining the game, drove others to buy the game to see what it is all about in the U.S.
I doubt FE: Fates would have had a record breaking launch in the U.S. if the press wasn't going crazy negative over it.

The outrage over Star Fox Zero is only getting started, I bet it will be in full force come Wednesday and be picked up by the mainstream media and the BBC News World service.

I do see Nintendo being forced to publicly address it, unless Microsoft's GDC plans on how they are merging Xbox fully into Windows 10 creates a huge industry backlash (it's this week).

FYI: Most of us with Asperger's can kick most people's asses at all the games we play. Most of us are Obsessive on stuff we like... I've been Obsessing on FE:Fates.
It's rare for a person with Asperger's to reject gaming and have short attention spans.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-14-star-fox-zero-adds-invincible-mode-for-beginners-internet-reacts

Here is the article from Eurogamer reporting on the feature and the outrage over the invincibility mode in Star Fox Zero.

Geek.com is reporting that Star Fox Zero invincibility mode has taken the challenge out of the game, turning the game into a children's game.
http://www.geek.com/games/nintendo-takes-challenge-out-of-star-fox-zero-by-giving-it-an-invincibility-mode-1649707/

This is just a snippet of what is being reported about this game and feature today in the press.

Readers and users are raging hard on IGN, Gamespot, NeoGaf, Eurogamer, other traditional gaming outlets about this to absurd proportion.

January and February were spent raging about Nintendo ruining Fire Emblem Fates by traditional gaming outlets.

We had similar outrage on Smash Bros Wii U/3DS, Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, XCX, etc...

Every time Nintendo announces a mode like this, it causes a huge backlash.

When other gaming companies announce stuff like this, it goes unnoticed.

Personally I see nothing wrong with it.

Though I do say each outrage over this stuff against Nintendo is getting bigger each time.

I wonder when Nintendo is going to address the outrage?

Re: Star Fox Zero Will Include An Invincible Mode For Inexperienced Players

Xenocity

@Vegaphil
The backlash is being driven by folks who see this as "casualizing" Star Fox Zero and deluding the game down.
They see Star Fox Zero as being made for "casuals"/kids/women and not for gamers and the like.

The backlash is really something big and will only get bigger as more gamers and like find out about it.

Ironically this is all over game with bright colors and talking animals, which the series already had a negative stigma over.

This too is being picked up by press outlets, with Eurogamer being the first ones to press.

I mean this happens every time a game is announced with Super Guide. There was also a big deal when Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates stated they had casual and phoenix modes alongside the lower difficulty options.

You'd think people would be more upset at Microsoft announcing the merging of Xbox One/Xbox brand with Windows 10 going forward and having it being their GDC presentation this week (Xbox will no longer be the focus after this year).

It's still very unusual for anything family friendly or below PEGI-16 rating to chart in the UK.
Nintendo games rarely chart in the UK dating back to the NES.

I think Pokken will do better than expected due to it being a solid fighting game in NA, Japan and France/Germany.

Literally all the main gaming sites and forums are seeing their users enraged over this.

I can't wait to hear Nintendo's PR statement.

I might buy the game now due to the outrage.

Re: Twilight Princess HD Holds Top 10 Place in UK Charts

To Nintendo's defense retailers do not order more copies of their games if sales/demand drops below a certain weekly point.
This also bodes true for all other games.

I mean ever try to buy last year's yearly game in summer? You'd be hard press to find a copy.

Games have to sell well week on week in order to convince retailers to reorder them.
