Re: Japan's Switch Sales In June Were Reportedly A Record High For The Console

WhensDinner

As much as I love the Switch, I'm really tired of it being this underpowered third wheel. TotK runs like a dog. Nearly every game is 30fps 600p disappointment. The games have outgrown the hardware bigtime. We are well past the point of the hardware holding the games back. No SF6. No Diablo 4. No Resident Evil. "Cloud editions". Please just release new hardware.

Call me weird, but I honestly love stuff like this. Just honest, fun, earnest content. Not everything has to be a 20 minute DYKG obscure fact-fest or some kind of fast-cut humor and meme filled sarcasm-fest. Sometimes it's just fun to totally let your guard down and just enjoy this kind of thing. Makes me remember what it was like to read and watch game-related content as a kid.

Re: Random: Fan Makes Wii Menu Animations For Switch Games, And The Results Are Brilliant

WhensDinner

It's kind of a shame that the Switch will likely go its whole life with such a soulless and boring interface. We never even got more themes. "Basic Black" and "Basic White" are really going to be it for the whole run. We never even got proper folders for games, messaging for friends, voicechat that didn't require a smartphone app (just use discord at that point), or any real updates to how the eShop worked.

I hope whatever we get next isn't so barebones.

Re: Talking Point: Which Is Your Favourite Nintendo Controller? Every Nintendo Pad Ranked

WhensDinner

The Wii U Pro Controller is close to perfection. All the inputs feel good. The battery lasts a long time. The mini-usb port is durable. The only thing it's missing is gyro. This is my controller of choice for PC games and Steam Deck.

I want to say the Switch Pro Controller is the best, but the d-pad is just horrible. Double and accidental inputs constantly. It's so close to being total perfection it's painful

Re: Talking Point: Which Is Your Favourite Quest In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild?

WhensDinner

I don't know if it counts as a quest, but Eventide Island. I was really well geared by the time I stumbled onto the island and the return to nothing and being excited to find sticks and rusty swords was really refreshing after demolishing everything in my path had become routine. Also finding and finding the best ways to move and seat the orbs was just fun.

I wish there were more segments like that, but I recognize that doing "the Eventide thing" over and over would get old fast. I loved it for what it was.

Re: Nintendo Hacker Gary Bowser Has Been Released From Prison

WhensDinner

While I agree he did commit a crime and be punished I think it's a little harsh to essentially make the guy poor for the rest of his life for selling gizmos that let people pirate videogames. $10 million is essentially just a sentence that Nintendo owns 30% of him for the rest of his life. I don't know what the punishment should be but this is pretty severe. He's already been in prison for three years.

Re: Nintendo Wins Court Dispute Against Pirated Game Hosting Site

WhensDinner

They're within their right to do this. There's no real way to frame this as anything other than a company protecting itself.

That said Nintendo does such a poor job of making their previous games available and accessible that's it's hard for me to get upset at people pirating them so that they can enjoy them without paying scalpers and speculators on eBay.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

WhensDinner

I'm excited. I'm replaying, and actually finishing, BotW right now. It's such a great game, and I know that Nintendo could top it. The only concern I have is that...well, I mean it's the same Hyrule, right? We explored every inch of it in BotW. It looks like this game doesn't take place too much further into the future, so will the world just be the same? It's going to be a major drag if the world feels the same as the last game. I'm sure there'll be new mechanics and all, but the world itself was the star of BotW, and they'll need to do something to make it feel fresh if they use the same world in another game.

Re: Talking Point: What Makes A Really Good Demo?

WhensDinner

Transferrable save data is huge for me. Without it I feel like I don't really engage with the demo like it was a real game, I just kind of coast through it. With the prospect of being able to carry my progress forward I feel invested in what is happening and I'm much more likely to actually buy the game. The recent Bayonetta Origins demo is one example.
