Re: Random: Dataminers Use Original Uncompressed Samples To Restore Super Mario World's Soundtrack

Tim_Vreeland

@CromAstronomy Genesis had an objectively better sound chip. SNES had great compositions. Great compositions dont make great sound chips or vice versa. The SNES used compressed samples. No matter how you roll the dice, the snes was putting out lower quality audio. The Genesis used an uncompressed synth chip. It factually put out higher quality sound. By definition, compression degrades sound quality. And SNES sound was super compressed far more than a late 90s mp3 from Napster.

Re: Levi's Just Announced A New Line Of Pokémon Clothing, And It Includes Misty's Outfit

Tim_Vreeland

I guess there was just an official announcement? I remember seeing these same clothes a couple weeks ago somewhere, and the accompanying insane prices.

-edit, Correction, it was 1 week ago. Levis officially announced the Pokemon clothing line a week ago and showed off one of the prints, and said it would show more later. However that same day, people were able to find all the clothing and accessories and the prices and pictures.

@HamatoYoshi Anyone making fashion judgements like a middle schooler shouldn’t be concerned with the affairs of grown men.

Re: Reggie Admits Switch Was A "Make Or Break Product" For Nintendo After Poor Performance Of Wii U

Tim_Vreeland

@nocdaes Unfortunately in the world of business, having money in the bank doesn’t keep you alive. Its all about growth. There are so many companies that are in debt and continue to lose money, but keep growing rapidly and are considered a huge success.

If you aren’t growing, investors lose faith, and in most cases you tumble backwards uncontrollably. Lost faith is hard to recover from no matter how much you have in the bank.

When investors leave, partners leave, when partners leave, top performing employees get spooked and jump ship. Consumers are also hard to pull in after too much failure. Momentum is the most important thing in business.

Look at Sonys phone business. The company has a huge bank account, and right now Sony builds some of the best phones you can buy. But... no one buys them and their phone sales keep shrinking on a never ending slide backwards. All because consumers and investors lost faith in them during the Ericsson days.

Re: Nintendo Explains How Photo Evaluation Works In New Pokémon Snap

Tim_Vreeland

Im sorry but the rule of thirds is dumb. It fills no purpose unless you want to be a carbon copy generic photographer. For regular people, they want their memories, family, and subjects to be the center of their photo. For true artists, they aren’t going to be following a rule book.

Rule of thirds is for non creative people who went to a class and think they are now creative.

Re: Capcom Shares Strict Video Guidelines For Content Creators

Tim_Vreeland

While most of this sounds pretty fair, a lot of it is not legally sound. I'm not sure about globally, but in the US we have fair use, and freedom of the press. A lot of these rules would go against the laws where I live.

But in the end it doesn't really matter, because 99% of these rules are ever going to target Twitch and YouTube, where those platforms control the content, and they will always side with the big companies. The legal concerns would only come into play if you are hosting the material on your own platform.

Re: Review: Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend - A Nostalgic Curiosity, But That's About It

Tim_Vreeland

@GameOtaku You still have it all mixed up. Trials of Mana is an SNES game, not a PS1 game.

Legend of Mana isnt included in the collection.

Secret of Mana, another snes game is included in the collection.

And the third game Final Fantasy Adventure is yes, a Gameboy game.

A collection of Playstation games takes a lot more work to get the emulation perfected.

Look at the price of the physical Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 releases.

The smallest Switch game card is 1 GB. FF 7 was 4 GB on Switch, FF 8 was 3 GB and FF9 was 5 GB, if memory serves correct.

Bringing these games to Switch takes more room than just the PS1 rom file size. They have custom emulation and extra features.

Re: Best Of 2020: How Nintendo Killed The Best Version Of Tetris

Tim_Vreeland

@Kabloop to be honest in my experience Zelda 2 was loved. My close friends liked it. It had buzz on the playground. Magazines wrote positively about it. It was popular enough to get a second grey cart print.

Id say the revision came from the AVGN video. Then all of the sudden across the internet it became a “bad game”. As has happened with many games that were once loved until featured on avgn. People just sheeped. Many probably not even having played the game. They dont get that it’s just a slow and the show’s creator didn’t actually hate the game.

Game is finally going back to its former glory, where it belongs.

Re: Free-To-Play JRPG Caravan Stories Is Coming To Switch

Tim_Vreeland

@Crono1973 I mean yeah it is old... Like since Dragon Quest 1, the first JRPG was anime style 34 years ago, followed by just about 95% of Japanese rpgs since. I mean anime is as much a part of the genre as stats and heroes.

Were you expecting a defining part of the genre to just go away after a few decades? Kind of an odd thing to think.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Black Friday 2020: Console Bundles, Games, Micro SD Cards And More

Tim_Vreeland

@COVIDberry it is considering they are usually all over other US focused Nintendo News. In fact it seems like they cover more US Nintendo news than they do for their home country. Doug Bowser and Reggie are constant headlines here. They just dont put effort into the Black Friday coverage. Its disappointing to the end that they might as well just not put up a US deal section.

Re: Turns Out This Kickstarted HDMI-Ready N64 Is A Bust

Tim_Vreeland

@Heavyarms55 Selling used hardware has never been illegal. Its the reason gamestop is in business. Clone manufacturers couldn’t manufacture their own brand new boards that are exact copies of Nintendo patents. There has never been anything stoping clone manufacturers from using original hardware and reselling it. In fact some projects have done this in the past with NES and Gameboy. Its just usually more expensive and there is a limited supply, when considering using used hardware.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Black Friday 2020: Console Bundles, Games, Micro SD Cards And More

Tim_Vreeland

Just a heads up. NL is pretty good at following the UK black friday deals. But if you are in the US, last year NintendoLife’s coverage of the US black friday deals was abysmal. They basically just stuck to the officially announced deals from Nintendo themselves, and didnt bother covering much else. So far this year looks like its heading in the same direction. I would look elsewhere if you want to get updated details on what deals major retailers are offering.

Re: Random: Amazon's Luna Controller Sure Does Look Familiar

Tim_Vreeland

@Uzukage except not. The Wii U controller has both sticks up top and a completely different shape to the controller. I own one. But that’s not the point I was making.

Look at the Fire TV controller. The plastic mold looks similar to the Luna controller. A lot more similar than it does to the Switch Pro controller. So why is this article saying the brand new Luna controller is taking its design from the Switch controller. It’s obvious it’s a continuation of the Fire Controller.

The Luna and the Fire both have the same mold. Concave sticks, raised dpad circle, Abxy placement. They follow each other in design language. The Switch controller has its own design language that is different and came out after the Fire controller. The Luna controller didn’t follow the Switch Pro at all. This article is a waste of space.

Re: M2 Is Bringing Aleste Collection To Nintendo Switch

Tim_Vreeland

These prices have to be an error? “collection launches on December 24th and will cost ¥7,480 for the physical version (thanks, Japanese Nintendo), ¥4,950 for the digital version and ¥16,280 for the version bundled with the Game Gear Micro.”

$70 for a Switch game, that is a retro collection? That’s unheard of.

Then $160 for the version bundled with the Game Gear Micro. The other Game Gear Micros cost $50..... so $110 premium to have different roms?

Could you check on that one more

Re: Bizarre Super Mario Bros. 3 Prototype Cartridge Sells For $31,200 At Auction

Tim_Vreeland

@ALinkttPresent it’s a prototype. Meaning it could have the chips changed out daily. They aren’t going to send it back to the factory to print new chips onto a board every time they need an update. Especially since NES games were all manufactured in Japan back then, and this was a Nintendo of America prototype. These aren’t Reflashable chips. They were soldered by hand into place. They didn’t have a facility in America that printed out a whole board.

Re: Random: Nintendo Of America Originally Wanted Pikachu To Be "A Tiger With Huge Breasts"

Tim_Vreeland

@jump Doki Doki Panic was actually in development to be Super Mario Bros 2, before they got the license to use the Fuji Television characters. The Japanese release of smb2 was just slapped together quickly using smb1 as a base, since the real smb2 was getting skinned as Doki Doki Panic. After DDP came out in Japan, the game got reworked back Into a Mario game for the west.

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

Tim_Vreeland

No. And not because I have something against digital. No because it doesn’t make sense. Digital only helps disc based consoles keep cost down with less moving parts. How much does it cost to add pin contacts for a cartridge? Not enough to matter. And the digital only version would need more onboard storage included, which actually does increase cost by a good margin. No one is going to want to pay more for a digital only system.

Re: Streets Of Rage 4's Dotemu Is Working On Three Unannounced Projects

Tim_Vreeland

I would love a new Golden Axe. I like the graphic style they used in SOR4, but for Golden Axe they really need to change it. SOR has always been colorful and arcadey. GA really needs that Conan medieval wasteland look though. The gameplay in GA was never that complex, it thrived on atmosphere. It would be really awesome if they commissioned some hand drawn art from some of the 80s artists that did work on the covers of Dragonlance novels or DnD books, or 90s MTG cards. Or even the master of loincloths himself, Boris Vallejo

Re: Nintendo of America Files Two New Lawsuits Against Switch Hack Resellers

Tim_Vreeland

@JimmySpades Thats a flawed analogy. In your analogy, the only thing the key is good for is stealing loot from a safe.

In real life, the hacks are used for people to do many things which are legal, but some people choose to use it for illegal things.

A crowbar would be a far better analogy. Many people use them to break in and steal things. But other people just use them as a legal tool.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Revealed, A New Story Expansion Launching This Month

Tim_Vreeland

@Gerald Why wouldn’t Hamster be able to get a license? If anything, this shows that ip holder of Robocop is willing to license out out their character in games. Did they give exclusive rights to Warner Bros. to use the character going forward? That would be really unusual considering its just a 1 character dlc. If WB was making a whole Robocop game, that might be the case, but even then thats like 50/50.
