Re: Hand-Drawn Game Guide Kickstarter Taken Down Following "Legal Trouble"

Tim_Vreeland

@Arawn93 Nah this doesnt make sense. Nintendo is just picking on a little guy since they know its hard for him to fight back. Major corporations published unlicensed unofficial guides for 40 years. To this day there are major corporations printing magazines and guides with Nintendo’s IP, and Nintendo cant do anything about it. But when a single individual tries to do something, Nintendo knows they can scare them off, because even if Nintendo loses in court, they know the individuals project will be shut down, because the legal defense will be so expensive.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

Tim_Vreeland

@LzWinky Its not an honor system and you dont need a patent. Computer code is protected by copyright laws.

“ In the context of software, a copyright could protect source code, object code and user interfaces. A copyright is obtained automatically at the time the expression is created, such as when the source code is written, when the user interface is created, or when the program is compiled.”

And yes open source software with EULA is definitely protected and enforceable.

It is helpful to everyone if you don’t chime in unless you actually have valid information. Stating your guesses on a public platform just leads to others carrying that misinformation forward elsewhere.

If Nintendo doesn’t respond and remove the game until the issues are resolved, the emulation author does have the legal ability to make a court case, and one that can be won. However this is unlikely due to the upfront costs.

Re: Rumour: Get That Salt Ready, Apple Is Reportedly Working On A Nintendo Switch-Style Hybrid Console

Tim_Vreeland

@damo I think if you dig a little deeper, the only new thing here is that it would be a hybrid. For over a year now, actual reputable leakers have been talking about an Apple dedicated gaming console, and Apple being in talks with big publishers.

Microsoft and Sony haven’t really tried to compete with Nintendo on portable gaming lately. But Apple would be a more suitable rival, with success in portable devices. iPhone and iPad in reality are already competing with Nintendo for mobile gamers for game time.

Previous leaks were hinting at more of an Apple TV device with powerful gpu for gaming. But it wouldnt be a stretch to imagine that may have evolved into a hybrid.

But either way, accurate leakers have indeed revealed that Apple is working on gaming hardware, contrary to some of the insight you have here.

Re: Pokémon HOME June Update Will End Compatibility With Select Smartphones

Tim_Vreeland

@Xiovanni The single OS still gets version updates. Thats the same strategy they have with Windows 10. And theres stuff on Windows 10 that doesn’t work unless your version is up to date.

Thats the same strategy all mobile OS use. Android 5 is a version number. iOS 9 is a version number. They arent a new OS. Its just Windows 10 is the name of the OS. Where as Android and iOS doesnt have have a number in the name. Like Windows 95 isn’t the 95th version of Windows. But it did get several version updates.

Android and iOS are basically Windows 1. Its the first OS, they never made a second one.

Re: Rumour: Evidence Of A "New" Nintendo Switch Dock Supposedly Datamined In System Update 12.0.0

Tim_Vreeland

@Shade_Koopa Given the fact that streaming video only uses 100mbps on 8k video, and 8k video isnt even an option on Switch. And the fact that online gaming rarely uses over 1mbps with 5mbps being overkill. What would the Switch do with the increased speed? Download update patches faster? That probably wouldn’t even happen because its not like Nintendo’s servers are going to send out updates at over 500mbps. USB 2.0 ethernet adapters work at up to 480mbps.

The biggest game on Switch takes less than 10 minutes to download on Switch at full speed. The average triple A takes about 2 minutes.

Its not really much to gain here.

Its not like its a pc where you are doing all kinds of crazy things. For what the Switch can do, max speed it has now isn’t even necessary.

Re: Xbox Says It's "More Important Than Ever" To Preserve Gaming Icons And Classics

Tim_Vreeland

@Ghost_of_Hasashi why would Microsoft have Tecmo’s source code? Game companies dont give away their source code to other companies. Thats like giving away a trade secret.

Microsoft has the finalized game, Ninja Gaiden Black and its still available for purchase. Ninja Gaiden 2 as well.

Its not their fault Tecmo lost the source code so they cant port it to other systems. If you want to play it, play it on a system that has backwards compatibility, like a current gen xbox.

Re: Soapbox: Life Is Strange Belongs On Switch. So Why Isn't It?

Tim_Vreeland

If you want it on Switch just wait. These publishers know 90% of people that own a Switch would buy it there. They are just milking consumers. They know people will buy it a second time so they can have it on the go. Thats why they always release on Switch months after the other platforms. Dont play their games. You think Tony Hawk started development on Switch after the PS, PC, and Xbox version released? Nope, but they sure weren’t going to tell their customers it was coming to Switch, until after their customers already bought a copy on a non portable system.

Re: 8BitDo Reveals Its New "Pro 2" Bluetooth Controller, Compatible With Switch

Tim_Vreeland

@liveswired hmm this is some false information. First of all I have had joycons repaired several times due to drift. They always shipped to a repair facility inside my country.

Second, yes I have seen the insides of a joycon. They look fine and comparable to any modern thin and lite technology. Youll find the same kind of ribbon cables inside of $1000 iPhones and Samsung phones.

Third, the part that fails isnt made by Nintendo. The control stick is made by a third party that also makes control sticks for Nintendos competitors, which is why PS5 controllers also have the same major issue with drift. The issue is the supplier has a monopoly in the market and there was a flaw in the design. It isnt a cheaply made part.

Fourth I didnt say Nintendo doesn’t profit off of joycon sales. I said they aren’t profiting from repairs. Repairs are free, they dont charge for them, they arent making extra money because they drift. Please read the context of my reply and the original comment before responding next time.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Gearing Up For Record Switch Sales This Year

Tim_Vreeland

@patbacknitro18 you ain’t getting botw2 details and release date yet for the same reason you didn’t get details on the new Switch model yet. Nintendo wants to make sure its Mario Edition Switch sells units before putting out the more desirable upgrade.

Nintendo wants to make sure Skyward Sword sell mass quantities. We will hear about botw2 a couple months after SS starts selling.

Re: 8BitDo Reveals Its New "Pro 2" Bluetooth Controller, Compatible With Switch

Tim_Vreeland

@BloodNinja heres the thing about 8bitdo I learned the hard way. Their warranty is fake. If your controller dies 30 days after you buy it, you cant return it to a store. So you are left with a paper weight.

I emailed about a warranty repair when the Bluetooth chip on mine died. After emailing back and forth about 15 times (they were avoiding telling me the truth, and just playing games to get me to give up) they basically said “look we are couple guys in a warehouse in China. You can send your controller in for repair, but you have to pay shipping both ways from China so itd probably be cheaper to just buy a new one”.

Re: Bandai Namco Sparks Rumours Of Nintendo Direct-Style Presentation With New Trademark

Tim_Vreeland

For me this is kind of like whats happening to streaming services like Netflix right now. It was great when there was just Netflix, Prime Video, and Hulu. But when every little company started breaking off to do their own thing, I became less interested.

I love the big Nintendo Directs. But as more companies break off and do their own thing, the Nintendo Directs become weaker and Im sure as hell not gonna make time to track every companies individual schedules for presentations. So its a lose lose for the companies, I feel like less eyes will be on their products.

Re: PSA: How To Use The "Safety Goggles" That Come With The Birthday Suit Collector's Edition Of Gal*Gun Returns

Tim_Vreeland

@TheFullAndy To be honest you seem really out dated and out of touch. Like you have the mentality of someone living in the 80s or 90s. The script has flipped. You are kind of the odd socially unaccepted person in 2021, not the people playing these games. Like if someone at work was acting and saying the stuff you are saying, its safe to say that person would not be a part of the main group, and probably be eating lunch by themself, or with a small group of people that didnt fit in because they are too grumpy or living in the past.

Re: PSA: How To Use The "Safety Goggles" That Come With The Birthday Suit Collector's Edition Of Gal*Gun Returns

Tim_Vreeland

@Wargoose this game looks hilarious, something most other shooters lack. The gameplay being mediocre is your opinion, which is obviously not shared by everyone. If you can’t understand why other people buy things they enjoy, I don’t think anyone can help you with that pondery.

Also you are kidding if you think there is a wealth of on rails shooters to choose from on Switch. The library available is minuscule.
