Update: As noted in the comments (thanks, Tim_Vreeland), this Master Cycle Zero/Raft combo was previously discovered and tested some time ago by several intrepid BOTW players. We obviously missed it at the time, but we've embedded a popular example at the bottom of the article. Happy boatin'!
Anyone who's ever played Zelda. Breath of the Wild will surely have noticed the various rafts sitting on shorelines around the kingdom of Hyrule. Personally, we never spent much time with them — too slow for our tastes — but it was entirely possible to navigate across the water using a Korok leaf to propel yourself and your vessel.
Well, things just got a bit easier, or at least faster. Twitter user Aycellin has discovered that by dipping the back wheel of the Master Cycle Zero off the back of a raft, you can turn your bike into a makeshift amphibious vehicle and speed across the water in no time.
Now our French is just about good enough to order a coffee and croissant at a Parisian cafe (while eliciting withering looks from the waiter, it should be said), so the original tweet showing the 'motorboat' proved a little beyond our abilities to translate. Fortunately, the included 'instructional' video makes things pretty clear, but using the magical powers of Twitter's in-built Google-powered translation tool, we were able to decipher exactly what Aycellin is saying:
I add an engine to the raft in #ZeldaBreathoftheWild I'll explain the procedure to you. Basically I just wanted to take my motorcycle on vacation, but I quickly found a tip provided by the developers it looks like to motorized this small boat.#zelda#zeldabotw#astuce 2021
As you can see, with some careful manoeuvring of your Master Cycle Zero, you're able to turn any old raft into a proper boat with an onboard motor(bike). Handily, no mods were employed here, meaning you too can go boating with your copy of the game — assuming you've completed the DLC and got the bike, of course.
This is just the latest in a very long line of cool things that's been discovered in 'the game that keeps on giving'. We recently found out you can ride on barrels, and all manner of glitches have been discovered enabling you to 'break' the game in fascinating ways.
Let us know below if you've had success turning your common or garden variety raft into a speedboat.
I hope they improve sea travel in the next game, I'd like to see a sheika boat along with the master cycle. Preferably before I complete EVERYTHING lol.
Even after nearly 3 years and a half, we still finding new things and experimenting with Breath of the Wild. Truly impressive.
I wonder how much things are going to be better in the sequel.
Zelda: “Yo, Link, I hear you like motorboating.”
@Chunkboi79 You had me at Shiekah boat.
I desperately want the sequel to have underwater travel and a fully fleshed out fishing minigame.
Truth be told, it is possible to gain considerable speed with the rafts when you get to open sea after developing a steady rhythm with the Korok Leaf. It's very noticeable when you travel to Eventide Island or when you go for the areas where you can fish chests for Lurelin side quests.
It's also noticeable when getting to that shrine in the middle of the ocean, but I usually glide to it from the high cliffs instead.
@MrGrim thank you, I came just to make sure someone got it. Someone at Nintendo Life HQ must be chortling.
Way too much trouble to do that.
Probably the opposite of better emergent gameplay is not Aonuma Style.
King of the Red Lions ain't sh**.
This game is magic. 4 years after this game released are we still getting a steady stream of stuff like this. My goodness.
@NintendoKnight Breath of the Wild came out 4 years and 3 months ago. Much more than almost 3.5!
You motorboatin’ son of a bi*ch you!
Can you please give us a full fledged fishing experience please
You motorboating son of a B….
Had to quote it, sorry
Lol pixel king literally wrote this then saw your comment from earlier. Hats off to you sir
again i say 100 years from now. people will still be finding fun stuff to do in this game.
I do hope more environments than the sky are implemented like water and subterranean. For aquatic, I actually hope we're using Sidon or some other Zora for that. Either that or upgrade the Zora tunic. We rode on Sidon's back in Breath of the Wild 1, they can do it again in the sequel.
@METROIDDREAD It is pretty cool, but this isn’t a new discovery. There’s 3 year old videos of people doing this. There’s one with 125k views. There’s another one with a little kid who sounds like he’s 6 years old doing it. So this is definitely a known.
Maybe @dartmonkey could imbed one of those earlier videos to credit the pioneers?
Oh, wow. Is that so?
@Tim_Vreeland I've spent over 650 hours in the game and never thought to try half the stuff people have been.
Reminds me of the Top gear Vietnam Special
I wish i had this much time lol.
@Bunkerneath I was gonna say, "someone has been watching Top Gear"
