"...some parts of the game were not translated in accordance with some of Nintendo's standards so we had to amend those...."
The Nintendo Language Police is at it again just like back when they cleaned up Sunset Riders. Personally I can't think of what could be so bad about the POP text that didn't agree with Nintendo. If the translation itself was that bad then Nnooo should get their money back.
"aren't Canadians supposed to be nice?" (x.SuperMario.x)
Yeah Dokenzz! You know you could have hurt my feelings? Lucky for you I have a sense of humor and was laughing my ass off when I read that because it came out of no where. LOL. I didn't see that coming.
All I have to say is some of us take Nintendo too seriously and invest too much faith in them. I'm sorry if I may have shattered your holy impression of the almighty Big N with my previous post. Who knows, if they don't address the problems at E3 '08 there is always '09 right?
I read this interview a short while back. I would be so ashamed to be Tom or Nintendo after reading that pathetic interview. You can really tell Nintendo doesn't care about what anyone else thinks.
IGN brought up the storage problem and all Nintendo had to say about it was delete your games and redownload. When it comes to demos they "do not intend to have a 'try-before-you-buy' model". That is a stupid idea because I have bought games before that I would have never considered just because I enjoyed the demo. Even if a developer wanted to do it the demo would probably have to compete for a Monday slot with another game so that sucks.
This statement "we are working with developers and their production schedules" made me laugh after reading wiiware-world.com's past article about how Nintendo doesn't even tell developers about release dates.
"Currently, there are about 100 games in development for WiiWare at various stages of completion." Now Nintendo is pulling off a Sony PS3 move boasting about how many games they have coming but still I see nothing.
When IGN asked about the lack of first party launch titles they replied "As we looked at the launch line up, we wanted to provide games that are widely appealing to all consumers -- something for everyone to enjoy." That makes no sense as to why first party titles like Dr.Mario weren't released. Is it not appealing to all consumers?
Once again, this was a bad interview. With the way Nintendo is handling things I honestly believe that if the wii looses its casual market it will fail miserably in the end just like the cube and n64 did. Needless to say I'm glad I'm fortunate enough to have a x360 and not be stuck with only a wii. Unlike Nintendo, Microsoft seems to be all about getting the great games to us gamers, this generation.
"...Some games here are 50 or 55 Euros, while in the US they are 40 to 45 Dollars. There is no reason for that, especially with the exchange rate the way it is."(JesteR)
There is a reason for it. The reason is they can do it and you can't stop them.
Until recently retail games were $10 more in Canada than in the US. There wasn't a $10 difference in the exchange rate, so many border Canadians started crossing the border and those with online purchasing power as well were buying from Americans. The Canadian retailers no doubt noticed they were loosing money and then decided it would be in their best interest not to inflate the prices. Of course their marketing campaigns would have you believe that the reason for price drops were directly related to the Canadian dollar increasing in value.
Unfortunately you don't have the option to do that because of region lock outs. You could always not buy the game until a price drop but for them to get the message you all would have to do it. Good luck with that.
All you have to do now is convince the Banks to use the Big Mac purchasing power rate instead of the official exchange rate and you'll be all set for an international shopping spree.
"...I mean, it is good enough that we are even getting VC and WiiWare, they didn't have to do it...." (Cooldued59)
You make it sound like Nintendo is doing charity work. Well they are not! They make a profit from the service and they expect people to take their service seriously even when they treat everyone like crap.
I honestly hope developers boycott Nintendo, much like they did with the other two Nintendo systems and tell them straight up that if they are not going to be fair and reasonable the developers are not going to bother doing business with them.
"...Part of the opt in data purpose is to determine how fast you are downloading the videos so they can use said data to improve the bandwidth...." (sailingtheseaoffools)
There is a simple formula for improving bandwidth that doesn't involve calculating 'opt in data' to ensure smooth video play back and I will be kind enough to share it with you. Brace your self because you will not believe how simple it is. Well here it is, Formula: More is Better.
Lets be serious for a minute. The year is 2008 unless I am out of sync again with the present time factor. This isn't the beginning of streaming media over the Internet. Its the servers job to give as fast as the receiver can take. If Nintendo needs that data to figure out how fast to stream content then they are definitively living before the year 1995 and rediscovering the wheel, where ever they happen to be.
Are you working for Nintendo and or trying to promote 'opt in data', perchance? Or perhaps you are simply sailing with Nintendo over the same sea of whom's name is contained within your own. Nintendo should have servers in all continents instead of having all continents leaching from one. There shouldn't be a problem with Europeans slowing down Americans or in any other possible combination including the Asians. If they can't handle launch week then what makes you think they will be able to handle a larger install base weeks from now when the community's growth expedites at the selling rate of wii systems?
The simple answer is that Nintendo is light years behind when it comes to Internet technology, amongst other things, whether you choose to accept it or not.
Nintendo thinks its cute by playing hide and seek. What they don't realize is that we are not amused and someone will eventually punch Nintendo in the face the next time they say "Peek-a-boo" by not supporting the service.
Us gamers are frustrated because we don't know if we should ever expect a game to be released. Developers are frustrated because they can't properly advertise/inform their customerbase regarding their products. Who is Nintendo trying to impress?
PS. Nintendo must hate wiiware-world.com & vc-reviews.com because those sites are not shady and expose the truth.
LMAO. The wii has got to be the champion of crapware this generation. Nintendo went from having no games (game cube) to having all the ... games you could probably imagine (wii).
Some of these developers are thinking real small. WiiWare games are suppose to be a big experience in a small package, not the other way around.
Is this it? No WiiWare games? Just this one VC game? Are WiiWare releases still going to be posted with the VC news feed or do I need a feed for WiiWare? Where am I? I'm lost
Your license to use the game on the system you purchased it for doesn't expire. It lasts forever. You can always back up your games on a SD card so you have a copy on hand for when Nintendo goes off-line.
The wii memory doesn't last forever. Every time your system reads and writes to memory it wears down a little more. So redownloading and deleting over and over again isn't going to make the game last longer.
When your wii memory fails your wii won't work anymore. If you have your games backed up on SD card it won't matter even if you were to get a new wii because the DRM is exclusively locked to the dead system.
Flash memory does have a life expectancy. It can only be written to and read from so many times. The life expectancy of flash memory is probably different with each type and manufacturer build quality.
Even DVDs and CDs have a life expectancy. I don't know the exact life expectancy of the wii flash memory. In short, nothing last forever unfortunately.
You could make your memory last longer by minimizing read & write operations. Don't transfer and delete saves and channels from Wii memory to SD card often. Of course that would be hard to do if you are low on space and buy a lot of WiiWare and VC titles.
"I can't believe the lack of willingness to give new, unfamiliar intellectual properties a chance."(Jace)
I don't think people are necessarily unwilling. They would be willing to give it a try if it was free to try like XBLA. It isn't free to try and watching a video isn't the same as trying it out. Unlike retail games you can't rent the game or resell if you buy. As a result you are essentially blindly, gambling your money by trying these unfamiliar games.
I think the reason why a lot of people are mad is because they were expecting Dr. Mario to be a launch title and it isn't. There are a lot of other titles announced that are not available at launch and with Nintendo's history of creating bottlenecks with vc releases it may be a long time before we see these other games. Naturally, people who don't see an anticipated game in the launch list are disappointed by the long wait that is yet to come.
LMAO! Nintendo is a dumb ******! My wii is in the box right now. It probably won't come out to play until Sam & Max hit the streets.
I was thinking I would finally have a reason to hook it back up to play some Dr. Mario and maybe get a second game with the remaining points. Well, I guess not. Back to GTA IV for me.
There isn't even any good vc title being released for me to turn on my system for. That's not surprising though.
On another note, XGen has the right idea pricing Defend your Castle @ 500 points. Nnooo, 700 points to pop bubbles? It took them forever to come up with that screwed up price point? I would rather make some bubbles out of dish washing soap and pop those.
Bluetooth operates in the 2.4Ghz range. The first Wavebirds released operated in the 900Mhz range. Maybe you have one of those. Nintendo eventually switch the Wavebird over to 2.4Ghz later on in its life cycle.
@ zss_shadow Well, if your expert NES uncle thinks there is lag I won't argue with him because I'm not an expert myself at NES games. It is possible that after all these years he is a bit rusty if he hasn't been playing recently.(joking)
@ Mirokunite They used IR prior to the 32bit era which required a clear line of sight like a TV remote. Early RF controllers used the low 900Mhz frequencies which wasn't quite enough for a lag free experience. Ever since they moved on to the higher 2.4Ghz range (WiFi) I think it has become a thing of the past. Unless of course you have a wireless device creating interference with the 2.4Ghz range.
"The manufacturer claims that this is because wireless controllers can have delays in response times..."
Thats probably an excuse and what they really meant to say was its cheaper to get the license to make a gamecube controller than a wii controller or something like that.
I would like it if someone made a cable that would let you hook up the classic controller to the game cube ports so you could play gamecube games with the classic controller.
Thanks for updating my knowledge about the North American culture, LOL. RX didn't mean anything to me. Maybe it is just an American thing and I was scratching my head because I'm Canadian.
Germ Buster is a better name anyway you look at it. Stupid NOA can't speak to me in a language I understand. They may as well shorten the whole damn thing to DMORX.
I would try it out but my wii is in the box until a wii game comes out that I feel like playing, after I'm done with GTAIV.

I guess the wii is going to be cluttered with retro remakes after all Ninty and thats on top of the retro ports that already exist. Nicely done.
Cruis'n USA was great in the arcades back in 1990 something, but the 64 version is a horrible port.
I only want one more 64 game from you Ninty, Excite Bike 64. Do me a favor and release Excite Bike 64 on Monday instead. Knowing you, you'll probably do one better and surprise me with only one game or something, that I don't want.
How can you say such a thing Quibmy? Are you trying to provoke me? Mutant League Hockey was one of the worst hockey video games to ever be made. Even the aging 8bit Blades of Steal puts it to shame.
I'm still scratching my head on this Disney on Ice stuff you speak of. It doesn't sound like hockey. And they get naked too? That is some weird ... I don't want to know about your fond childhood memories.
I'm Laughing My Ass Off! The staff at Gameloft must walk into doors very often to come up with this bright idea. This is a company headed in the right direction with an 800 point Block Breaker. What's next? A 1600 point Pong clone perhaps?
If Sega releases Outrun for Master System and not Genesis I will be so Mad! If they release Penguin Land I'll probably pick it up if I don't run out of space from other stuff before when ever then is.
@E-dawg, Wiimotes cost more everywhere else in the world compared to the the US price point. I don't know about Japan though. Canadian retailers started lowering their prices a bit this past christmas when a lot of Canadians started crossing the border to do their shopping, hehehe.

I guess the wii is going to be cluttered with retro remakes after all Ninty and thats on top of the retro ports that already exist. Nicely done.
Re: EU VC Releases - 28th March - Commodore 64 and Nintendo 64!
Re: LostWinds: One to Watch on WiiWare?
How can you say such a thing Quibmy? Are you trying to provoke me? Mutant League Hockey was one of the worst hockey video games to ever be made. Even the aging 8bit Blades of Steal puts it to shame.
I'm still scratching my head on this Disney on Ice stuff you speak of. It doesn't sound like hockey. And they get naked too? That is some weird ... I don't want to know about your fond childhood memories.
Re: LostWinds: One to Watch on WiiWare?
There is really only one real sport silly Quimby. HOCKEY!
Re: Block Breaker Deluxe Coming to WiiWare
I'm Laughing My Ass Off! The staff at Gameloft must walk into doors very often to come up with this bright idea. This is a company headed in the right direction with an 800 point Block Breaker. What's next? A 1600 point Pong clone perhaps?
Re: Japanese WiiWare Service – GO! GO! GO!
3 words: Want Dr. Mario
Re: Master System Hitting US 'Soon', 400 Points Per Game
If Sega releases Outrun for Master System and not Genesis I will be so Mad! If they release Penguin Land I'll probably pick it up if I don't run out of space from other stuff before when ever then is.
Re: US VC Releases - March 24th - King's Knight
@E-dawg, Wiimotes cost more everywhere else in the world compared to the the US price point. I don't know about Japan though. Canadian retailers started lowering their prices a bit this past christmas when a lot of Canadians started crossing the border to do their shopping, hehehe.
Re: US VC Releases - March 24th - King's Knight
Alas, I don't have have Twilight Princess to try out twighlight. It's always good to see progress.
