Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd June (Europe)

SteveButler2210

Wow, that AoT price. Especially when you consider the EUR price comes out as £21.19 when converted...

One thing that I've been wondering lately. What's with all the DS games being ported to the Wii U eShop but not the 3DS? 3DS plays physical DS titles, so surely it would be easy to do? There have been several games put on there recently I would happily pick up if they made them available on both, and it just seems a really strange decision not to!

Re: Rumour: Upcoming Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call DLC Brings More Classic Tracks

SteveButler2210

@gurtifus @Faruko another unfortunate side effect of this is cost. I'm not sure exactly how much DLC has been released so far, but I reckon it's at least 40-50 songs, which all adds up pretty fast at 99p each!

But Faruko it's definitely worth a look if you're a fan of the Final Fantasy series (plus a few others thanks to DLC). I adore the music throughout the series, but even I was surprised at how much time I ended up putting into this (easily 60-70 hours and counting atm, and that's relatively little by some people's standards)!

Re: Video: YouTube's Gaming Historian Takes Offense At One Element Of Mario's Game Boy Past

SteveButler2210

I agree wholeheartedly with @Mommar about the selectiveness of people's problems. Bet nobody would have batted an eyelid if they'd sent Mario to Scotland and given him a kilt and bagpipes. And not everybody in England is a Beefeater, but I'm sure having him visit here dressed as one wouldn't have caused a stir either.

People need to chill, it's not like Nintendo were saying by doing this, "everyone in this country is represented by this one image". It's just that these are some of the things that can be associated with those parts of the world (ongoing tribal culture in parts of Africa, and snake charming in India are things that a lot of people would be able to associate with those places, without there being any negativity attached to that). It wouldn't have worked if they'd just stuck him in the same regular clothes in every section.

I'm all for peace, love and equality, but sometimes I think the "baa baa rainbow sheep" brigade could lighten up a bit. I know it's often used as a scapegoat phrase to gloss over some seriously wrong actions, but sometimes "just a bit of harmless fun" really is just a bit of harmless fun!

Re: One Of The Most Successful Nintendo Games Of 2014 Isn't What You'd Expect

SteveButler2210

@MoonKnight7 I 100% agree on Princess and the Frog. What really sums it up best for me was that when I saw it a few years ago (probably not all that long after it came out), I just assumed that it was a "classic" Disney film that I had somehow not previously come across - it just felt genuinely "right" as a Disney movie in a way I don't think other recent ones have. It was only actually about a month ago that I found out it had come out within the last 5 years!

Re: Find All Pokémon With a Handy Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Map, Plus Details and Footage for the Next Movie

SteveButler2210

@rayquaza_master yeah I think time rather than difficulty is going to be the real clincher here. The early stages seem to go pretty quickly - I'm now sitting at around 200 on the national dex - but as I near the end I'm anticipating more of a struggle. So glad they included the old legendaries here though - I totally missed Gen V, and don't have my copy of Diamond anymore, so it would've been virtually impossible for me otherwise (that is, without spending money I don't have to burn on old games)!

Re: Find All Pokémon With a Handy Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Map, Plus Details and Footage for the Next Movie

SteveButler2210

@rayquaza_master I'm on about 130 so far, but definitely got my sights set on that shiny ribbon! If you have X or Y you should give completing the national dex a go though. Even if you only have one from ORAS and one from X/Y, that should make it doable to get most of them with a bit of time and effort - after that all you need is to find some decent people to trade with (plenty on Reddit, Serebii etc) and it should be plain sailing! (That's what I'm hoping anyway haha)

Re: Give Someone The Gift Of Nintendo This Christmas

SteveButler2210

@antdickens hi ant, just trying to check if my entry has been received ok - it's showing that it has,but when I entered I saw a second brief notification that said not open to entrants outside the UK (happens when I'm using my work comp for this website, even though I'm in UK). If it's not gone through ok, is there another way I can submit it? Cheers

Re: Weirdness: Zac Efron Issues "Settle It In Smash" Ultimatum As Nintendo Enlists Celebrities To Promote Wii U Brawler

SteveButler2210

@AJWolfTill Last year he was in Bad Neighbors with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. Wasn't the best movie in the world but it was good for a giggle. Oh and he also did one called "That Awkward Moment" which I thought was actually pretty good. Never had any time for the guy previously, but he's not all that bad now and he seems to be doing what he can to break away from his early career in a good way.

Re: I'll Take Zelda And Mario Over Sharing Call Of Duty With Sony And Microsoft, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

SteveButler2210

Before I say anything else here, I figure I should add that while PS4 is my main console of choice, I think both it and the Wii U are great for different reasons, and I fully intend to pick up a Wii U as soon as I can afford it. Simply put, I'm not here to bash one console or another. I agree with @Punished_Boss_84 's statement that the Wii U makes a better secondary console, and I wouldn't be looking to buy it yet if I didn't already own a PS4, but that is really for me just down to personal preference. I wanted a PS4 for the best MGS:GZ experience, nothing more to it really.

However, that being said, some of the comments thrown about in this thread are simply hilarious. I appreciate that you weren't calling them bad games, but saying that Uncharted, The Last of Us, Bloodborne and AC all play the same just because they have the same camera perspective? Man you must have been drunk or something when you wrote that one @Trikeboy. In terms of gameplay, mood, setting, plot, those 4 games are all about as different as they come. That's like saying Far Cry, Skyrim, Mirror's Edge and Bioshock are all the same because they're in 1st person...

Re: New Study Finds No Connection Between Video Game Violence And Its Real-World Equivalent

SteveButler2210

I think a big point to be made here is that, although on a wider scale it is harmless, the fact can also be stated that a tiny minority of people will always exist who may be influenced in a negative way by violence in the media, and on very rare occasions this will result in a crime being committed. However, the thing to take from that is that without fail these will always be very vulnerable, likely isolated people, who almost certainly are already ill with some sort of psychiatric condition.

Yes, it is possible that they may be influenced by media such as violent films or games, but removing one source of influence does not remove the source of a problem on the whole, that person remains mentally unwell and still poses some form of risk to themselves or others, with or without violent games. The takeaway from any of these studies should always be that, in the cases where violent crime has occurred, the only truly effective way it could have been avoided would be to improve awareness of mental illness and availability of appropriate care for the people who need it.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut the debate will continue to rage forever and ever, simply because the press know they can always have a field day with it when a new study comes out, and the researchers will keep looking into it just to keep themselves in work...

Whichever way you look at it though, while there will always be a point to be made about the minority, I would be surprised if I ever saw a study that genuinely claimed there was a widespread increase in crime due to violent media. That would just be ludicrous.

Re: Online Retailers Offer Huge Discounts on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Hardware Bundles in the UK

SteveButler2210

Ok, question time from me. Are these deals actually worth it? I only just found out the scope of the content on offer via the virtual console, and considering the great games I missed out on by never owning an original Wii, I am now seriously considering picking up a Wii U. However, many articles I've read have strongly advised against going for the 8GB model, due to the fact that system updates alone will use a huge chunk of that space. What's people's thoughts on this issue?

Re: Iwata Cites "Same-Generation Hypothesis" For Strong Smash Bros. And Pokémon Performance

SteveButler2210

@Light man don't look at it like that. There's no reason this needs to be your last gen, this can simply be the generation in which you start playing with your children I used to play games like Sonic and Road Rash with my mum from the age of about 3 upwards. Use it as an opportunity to impart a love of gaming into your kids, as a fun activity to do together with them, and this could become your busiest gaming generation in a long time!

Re: Nintendo Confirms Retro Halloween Scares for the Virtual Console

SteveButler2210

Does anybody have any idea why so much of the VC stuff comes to Wii U but not 3DS? Like, the 3DS is clearly more than powerful enough to handle these games, and there are some absolute classics out there (eg Earthbound) that I am desperate to get my hands on and would pay good money for on the 3DS.

I really don't understand the logic behind not just blanket porting all VC titles to both consoles.

Re: Feature: Ari Pulkkinen's Quest to Turn the Volume Up on Game Music

SteveButler2210

Loved the article, and it is good to see (slowly but surely) video game music being increasingly recognised alongside more mainstream genres.

My personal favourite example of this developing appreciation actually comes via Classic FM who, as well as now having an entire section of their website dedicated to video game music, have featured video game music in their Hall of Fame (Top 300) for the last few years in a row, from series such as Final Fantasy and Elder Scrolls placing fairly near the top, to even less widely obvious choices such as Banjo Kazooie taking a spot in the top 50. I think it really is a shining example of how video game music is starting to reach a far more diverse audience than ever before, and is clearly leaving an impression on those it is reaching. It gives me a lot of hope for things to come!

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Makes Progress on New Nintendo 3DS

SteveButler2210

I'm with the guy above me on this, people need to take a moment to chill. As far as piracy is concerned, the dev has clearly built in anti-piracy measures so people can stop getting their panties in a twist over that. Outside of that, if you don't like the idea then fine, that's your opinion and obviously you're entitled to that, but nobody is forcing you to utilise this and if you choose not to then it won't affect you in any way shape or form, so just settle down and move on.

TL;DR - If you like it, then use it, GREAT. If you don't, then ignore it, NO PROBLEM.

Re: Guide: How to Catch a Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Demo Code

SteveButler2210

@Edwards damn you and your beginner's luck! now that I have the attention of someone with a code though - question time: they're releasing 250 codes per hour, so I'm just wondering what time did you get yours? I'm intrigued to know if they're sending the emails out actually on the hour each hour or if the email can come at any random time. Don't want to be constantly checking emails if I don't have to!

Re: Pokémon X & Y Won't Be Patched to Accommodate New Mega Evolutions

SteveButler2210

I'm in the "meh" camp here, I mean honestly what did people expect? On the subject of X/Y though, I haven't really kept up to date on any news, but I'm guessing they never ended up releasing any DLC etc like some predicted they would? Just seemed a bit weird with all those references to other areas within the game, like doors you couldn't open and the guy who talks about coming from a land that nobody has seen before (or something like that, I'd have to look it up to get the exact wording). Did nobody ever get to the bottom of these?

EDIT: never mind, 5 seconds on Google has indicated that nothing has been solved yet. Will be a major disappointment if they just leave it at that...

Re: Video: Check Out this Adorable Tribute to the Mother Series

SteveButler2210

I never played Earthbound, but there was a really lovingly created English fan-translation of Mother 3 which you could play using an emulator - hands down one of the best games I've played! With so much of the groundwork laid out, it's beyond me why they don't endeavour to bring this to Western audiences as a downloadable title, as I'm certain it'd sell fairly well.
