That's sort of like asking if it's a good idea to play video games. Just depends on taste and what you like in a game. Though, I know a lot of people that loved DQ11 and hated the earlier games because they actually challenge the player...

Anything from N64 and below, which is when I believe Nintendo started to hit their peak and then slowly decline to where they are now. The NDF will say otherwise, but I believe this to be true.

@Paraka I get what you mean. However, much of Capcom's and Konami's libraries are readily available legally, right now. They don't need to be constantly pumping out new things when they have decades of material up for purchase.

Inti Creates has the most formulaic and rudimentary levels of game design in the business. I'm surprised people still buy their recycled nonsense.

@jaybird0922 I grew up with Nintendo and I'm no longer loyal to them. They're not doing anything good with the money we give them (just suing everyone in existence + poor business practices with their workers) so they don't get anymore cash from me. They're on their way down Blizzard/Activision's path.

@nessisonett Nice. I had a different experience with the series, I'm too much of a sucker for the older games.

I would say that the only games that innovated are 4, 5, and 6. The first 3 games, while ambitious, felt like retreading the same thing when compared to each other. They really started innovating at the later games, then basically nose-dived around 7, 8, or 9, depending on who you talk to.

6 games, each varying from 20-60 hours each, and people are moaning about the price? The entitlement is strong, today.

I’m glad video game companies are finally raising the cost to meet inflation. Games seem to have capped at $60 for the past 30 years. I think for the amount of content you receive, it’s more than fair.

All these people playing dozens of games on a $300 system, yet acting poor smh.

It's interesting that you say you are "sort of a creator," when I would simply say that you are a creator. I agree that it takes another person's appreciation to help feel a connection to the depth that the various artforms we participate in can help us feel. You nailed it when you said that it needs to touch your soul, or in my case, make me feel something meaningful. I appreciate that you took the time to write all that, since most of the conversations on this site resort to pointless arguments and trolls trying to rile people up.

I'm a different kind of artist (martial artist) so I understand where you are coming from. I'm also a long-time musician, but I'm in a position where I don't perform, so I just play for myself. It works, even though I miss performing. One day, I will return. But, thank you for the meaningful post.

This is why I love this site, even though I sold off my garbage Switch: I had missed the announcement that these were released on Steam last year, and they never came up in my recommendations. So just gave FFVI a go and wow, color me impressed!
