I bought a 5m HDMI-kabel, so I could position my Switch dock on a little table next to my couch, away from the TV. I also use that HDMI cable with my NES Classic and will use it with the SNES Classic. So the length of the controller cables is no problem for me.
@ShadJV You're aware that not only tilting the Joy-Con back let's you walk backwards, but also when you tilt the Joy-Con outwards? Since it is the exact opposite movement of tilting inwards for blocking, there should be less wrongful interpretation.
Why does anyone care? We're talking about the graphics of a game consisting entirely out of huge cubes with blocky textures on them. If you can live with such graphics, why would the lack of a slightly higher resolution be a dealbreaker?
I didn't buy a new console to play basically the same games which I already played on the last generation and can still play anew on the intended platform. That's why I won't buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I'm not interested in the battle mode anyway, so it doesn't have any added value for me.
Just get me new not multiplayer based games, like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Mario Oddyssey, and I'm happy.
I inmensely enjoy the freedom the game gives you to explore, but I miss the difficulty curve a linear game gives you. Because for example all the Divine Beasts are beatable from the start they al have approximately the same difficulty level, which is challenging in the beginning of the game, but when you have acquired 25 heart containers it doesn't pose any challenge at all.
I personally wouldn't mind an approach more like Zelda 1, in which you have an open world where you have to find the dungeons and can enter them at any time, but you need items from dungeons in a specific order to progress, which forces a difficulty curve.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I imagine you have your Switch set up near your tv, like probably most people have. I decided to place my Switch on a sidetable near my couch, because my tv cabinet is just as wide as my tv screen, so the Switch would be in front of my screen all the time if I placed it there. So I bought a five meter HDMI-cable to bridge the gap between the tv and the sidetable.
Additional benefit is I wouldn't need a headphone with a long cable, I don't have to get up to turn the Switch completely off or reattach the Joy-Con for charging after playing.
This solution will not work for everyones household depending on the way their living room is furnished, but it works for me.
@CB85 "I hope today's update also fixes the problem where the Sheikah Slate would keep beeping if you were tracking treasure chests and also erroneously respond to chests that had already been opened"
I had the same trouble when trying to find a Zora Spear. It kept directing me to a Zora Spear held by a NPC, so I'm unable to grab it. Technically the Sheikah Slate is correct, so that's roleplaying I guess. Would be useful to have a distinction in your Compendium between open and closed treasure chests.
@Asaki I started the game with the Pro HUD on, but I got really disoriented without a minimap at first and when I used the map menu, it would get me out of the flow of the game. The weather forecast came in handy early on the game when I didn't have much stamina and needed to know how long it would keep raining, so I knew if it was worth waiting to scale a wall or that I needed another way around. But the sound and temperature indicators aren't really necessary. If I go for another playthrough I will use Pro HUD, i guess.
I'm a Nintendo fan and I buy 3rd party.
On Wii U I have:
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag
Resident Evil: Revelations
Zombi U
Bayonetta 1 & 2 (don't know if that counts as 3rd party though)
Lego City Undercover
The Humble Bundle
Child of Light
Rayman Legends
Wonderful 101 (don't know if that counts as 3rd party though)
Lego Dimensions
Lego Marvel Superheroes
Lego Batman 3
Lego The Movie: The Videogame
Lego The Hobbit
Ducktales: Remastered
Mighty Switch Force!
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Toki Tori
Trine 2: Director's Cut
I have as much 3rd party as 1st party. And I know plenty of others that buy 3rd party. So your argument is void.
I very much hope so too, but when they have a "wait and see" mentality at this moment, it will take a while before they decide the community demand is enough for them to port the game over. And from that point it will probably take another year before it releases. I'm wondering if there will still be a demand at that time or if the community across all platforms has shrunk considerably to make the port fail at launch anyway.
So how are they gonna check the community demand? Does everybody who wants it on Switch have to send them tweets? Is there a community forum filled with people already owning a copy of Rocket League on another platform, which narrows the chance of them buying it again for Switch, that they check?
I'll bet there're enough people who only buy Nintendo platforms and have no idea of the existence of Rocket League, which can't voice a demand, because they don't know they want it. But when they would see the game displayed in stores would think: "Hey! This looks kinda cool!"
Why do Nintendo fans always have to plead for something to come their way before it happens? And I'll bet when it comes out it will be a full €60 in stead of the €25 on all other platforms. So it won't sell that much and 3rd party has another argument for not releasing games on Nintendo platforms...
@Reginald Apparently Nintendo sold 3.06 million Wii U units in it's first 44 days on the market. I can't find anything on the initial shipments. Now they have 2 million Switch units for the first 28 days. So I think it's on par.
@Reginald "I can't say I blame Nintendo for wanting to play it safe."
Nintendo has 2 million units ready for the month of march, which is as much stock as Sony had ready at the launch of Playstation 4 and Microsoft at launch of Xbox One. I don't think they are playing it save, the demand is just high. So they are already ranking up their production.
@Gorlokk It was the only point in your post I wanted to reply to since I already gave my opinion on the "lack of space" in post #70, right above the post you replied to. I didn't want to clutter the comment section by repeating my opinion.
I apologize for the way I replied on your post. I shouldn't have singled you out. I should have written: "The fact people expect the Switch to have a pack-in game comes more from their sense of entitlement than anything else."
@JudgeMethos If you buy the physical game, it won't take up any room. The 13 GB is the full size of the game on the game card. If you buy the download version, that is the amount of space it will take up.
I don't know where you get the 26 gigs from... The full game is just 13GB.
Edit: never mind the last sentence. I now realize you're refering to the available storage space
So yeah, the available storage space is 26 gigs of the internal memory + the size of your microSD card and both will be untouched when you buy the physical version of Breath of the Wild, except maybe for a patch and the DLC that was announced last week.
@ULTRA-64 "first of all yes, I have multiple SD cards with games stored for my Wii console."
Ok, my bad. But what percentage of the 101 million Wii owners do you expect have ever felt the need to buy a SD card for their Wii? I expect it to be just a fraction.
Nintendo is the only console manufacturer of the big three that ever bundles a game with the base system at launch (NES with Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, GB with Tetris, Wii with Wii Sports). The other two have NEVER done it. Maybe they had bundles with a system and game available at launch, but these were always more expensive than the base console. There was no one complaining to Sony and Microsoft their systems didn't have pack-in games.
The fact you expect the Switch to have a pack-in game comes more from your sense of entitlement than anything else.
@ULTRA-64 "People comparing to a low-hdd ps3 forget that that model was cheap, far cheaper than a switch!"
The original retail price for the 20GB Playstation 3 was $500/€500. I wouldn't call that "cheap, far cheaper than a switch!"
"All these people saying that it would affect the cost forget the fact that these things are much cheaper to buy by the million so it really would be far cheaper for them to foot the bill ahead of expecting the consumer to do so."
Sure Nintendo can get discounts on large orders, so it would be cheaper than when the consumer has to buy it themselves. But it will raise the price for EVERY Switch, when not EVERY consumer will have a need for more memory. I think when the mainstream audience (hopefully) embraces the Switch like they did the Wii, the majority of the owners will never see a need for a microSD card. Did you ever need a microSD card for your Wii? But you expect every consumer to pay more for their Switch, because you want more internal memory.
I personally think Nintendo made the right choice to keep the price as low as they are comfortable with (without losing money on an unit) to get it into as much people's homes as possible.
@JaxonH I agree wholeheartedly it's better to have it tied to your account, but when my system broke I expected to have lost more than I eventually did. Most of it was saved on my micro-SD card. Street Pass data in Mii Plaza was my biggest loss, besides the fact that Pokémon Picross and The Legend of Zelda Picross won't start up anymore. When I delete those, download and install them again they will probably work again, but then I have lost my progress in those games too. So I'm also very happy with the Switch getting cloud saving
@JaxonH My New 3DS XL wouldn't boot up anymore a while back, so I had it fixed by Nintendo. But they told me if I decided I didn't want it fixed (since I still have my regular 3DS XL), they could uncouple my eShop account from that piece of hardware and couple it to my other 3DS and download all my purchases anew. So you don't necessarily lose everything, you just have to contact Nintendo to transfer your eShop account. I expect you need to be able to give them a serial number of the original device, which could be a problem if you've lost your 3DS...
It has never happened to me that I didn't get something Nintendo related if I wanted it on launch day, including 3DS XL Link Between Worlds edition, New 3DS XL Majora's Mask Edition, NES Mini and in a few weeks Switch, so I'm extremely lucky or I've found the right retailer
I need to stop watching Digital Foundry video's, since Nintendo will never be on top specwise, so all video's about Nintendo hardware will be: "it's not as [insert adjective] as [insert competitor product]" on all aspects except maybe price. But I see 30 (overall) good games for €60 in a plug and play box. No hassle with settings, just cheap fun!
I'm wondering how much mentoring is needed to be able to stand in line waiting for a store to open or how different their perspectives on it will be...
@rjejr The MSRP price of $299 is the same in the whole of the US, but every state has its own tax rate on top of it, I believe? All the European prices you see are including taxes. So if European countries handle different tax rates, it will reflect immediately in the prices you see online. We like to know what something really costs
If we speculate the demographic is between ages 15 and 54 (taking in account from teens, who can buy it themselves to parents who buy it for their kids) for easy calculation with the numbers in the demographic article, 43% of 60 million inhabitants is 25.8 million Switches sold! Just in Japan! That's twice the number of Wii U's sold globally! Conclusion: SUCCESS!
So 43% of the people polled will get it, one way or the other. It would be interesting to know to which demographic group they belong and how many people were polled to determine is these results bear any statistical significance.
@yomanation don't forget reading books! I always go to a mayor book sale once a year where all books are cheap, because they're in ramsj state, meaning they are marked with a magic marker on the underside of the pages to indicate they can't be sold for full price anymore
