Online play is pretty big these days and with the rise of social gaming we've seen an flood of headsets appear on the market which allow you to better hear the action around you and communicate with your teammates - and enemies.
While the Switch sadly lacks any kind of Bluetooth connectivity, it's not exempt from this headset love-in - in fact, pretty much any wired headset will work with the console via its 3.5mm headphone socket. However, LucidSound's LS20 is the first which is actively promoted as being compatible with the Switch, which is why it has fallen under the steely gaze of our video guru Alex.

Wow, no comments yet... why not be the first?
@MatthewHindmarsh We're watching the video first, that's why.
Such a shame the Switch doesn't support bluetooth audio. All my mobile devices from the past few years have supported it and I've already invested in a good set of noise cancelling Bluetooth cans. Fortunately they also support a cable so this is definitely a first world issue but a shame none the less.
That champagne colour as you describe it, I'm not keen on either. The black headset is definitely nicer. There's flaws with this headset. What if you want to use them while the Switch is docked? That short cable won't work. Then there's that price. $100. Very expensive.
Edit: I bought this set for the Wii U and they're great.

Paid £15 for them at the time. They're Turtle Beach, top quality at an affordable price. Even now they're £27.50, which isn't that bad.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah, they're not perfect.
And I was pretty sure that the microphone needed to be going up your nose. Guess people are not interested in listening to.. those things up your nose..!
I totally agree with the black one being so much better and cooler. The white one looks so retro. Could see some retro DJ in the 70s use those ones.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE but for what games? The Wii U didn't offer any need for a headset! In fairness, I just used this, did a decent job

So, what does the Switch mode actually do differently from any other mode?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I imagine you have your Switch set up near your tv, like probably most people have. I decided to place my Switch on a sidetable near my couch, because my tv cabinet is just as wide as my tv screen, so the Switch would be in front of my screen all the time if I placed it there. So I bought a five meter HDMI-cable to bridge the gap between the tv and the sidetable.
Additional benefit is I wouldn't need a headphone with a long cable, I don't have to get up to turn the Switch completely off or reattach the Joy-Con for charging after playing.
This solution will not work for everyones household depending on the way their living room is furnished, but it works for me.
You know what detail would have been interesting in a Headset test ? Microphone quality...
I know there is no way to portrait how the speakers sound, but a short recording of the mic would have been appreciated.
Why does it have a mic when the Switch doesn't?
It'd be nice to actually be able to buy the console this is designed for! Why are Nintendo so crap with stock logistics?
thanks for vid had seen these but the mention of the slight buzzing is instant no for me. (pernament tinnitus & something like that would ffffffff drive me nuts & I already have 2 & 4 year old that fill in that slot of my life).
really need bright blue & red headset as well to match joycon
Lost interest as soon as it became clear that it's wired...
Oh and btw: "actively promoted as being compatible with the Switch" is just a meaningless marketing ruse.
Literally any headset with a 3.5mm jack is compatible.
They also could've added the sentence "compatible with human ears" and it would've been equally meaningless.
It would make more sense to me if these headphones were charged using USB-C, the same as the Switch. That would make them more "designed for the Switch" than any of the other features they've talked about to me
What Switch games currently support voice chat? I have my Wii U Turtle Beach headset but it doesn't reach me when the Switch is docked.
@Snader last I heard, Eire was waiting on buying a Switch until a big fiery pit freezes over.
