Re: Random: France Bans Gaming Terms Like 'eSports' To Maintain Language Purity

Slapsillium

@ModdedInkling
xenophobic:
"having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries."
Yeah, thats a strong word to throw out there and I don't think its that, sounds like government just trying to control the proliferation of non french words into everyday language, which to be fair is a big ask, common language use is a vey organic thing...

Re: Wreckfest Screeches Onto Switch Later This Year

Slapsillium

@Yosher Yeah I’m not sure how well that will work? Considering the game doesn’t pitch itself as a sim or even sim light racer, there are times in Wreckfest where you’re fastest by regulating your application of throttle, such as through longer turns and when racing on looser surfaces.

Re: Wreckfest Screeches Onto Switch Later This Year

Slapsillium

@Rykdrew Good catch, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know why more racing games don’t just give you a multi race championship and a leaderboard, simple. It’s why I never really got on with the Forza games, so many isolated races/events, and is yet another reason why I rate ACC so highly.

As an aside, but a relevant one given this is a Nintendo site, I love me some Mario Kart, but whatever happened to the multi cup championships you used to be able to unlock after beating everything? I can’t remember if it was MK64 or Double Dash that had it but I really do miss that mode so much.

Re: Wreckfest Screeches Onto Switch Later This Year

@Yosher You my friend are in for a treat, this game is like DD on steroids in the fanciest dress imaginable. The sense of weight the cars have is palpable, which makes the collisions sooooo satisfying.
Biggest shock however is what a component racer this really is. It’s no ACC, but it actually feels great to race clean??? Not what you expect from what is essentially a glorified banger racing game!

Re: Random: Elden Ring Just Dethroned Mario Odyssey At The Top Of OpenCritic's 'Best Game' List

Slapsillium

@Dissident lol came to this comments section to have a chuckle at this exact phenomenon 😂 some of the posts are actually hilarious. honestly a good game on a platform you don’t have or want access to is not an affront. This is clearing 10s because it looks to be seminal. This is not Cyberpunk (which scored low btw), it’s a Souls game, at this point it’s a proven formula and FROM are the masters of it.

For context I game on all four major platforms, I love gaming and like to be able to experience content from all corners, gaming is too rich to be a fanboy. Case in point; I just finished the Destiny 2 Witch Queen campaign on legendary: was amazing. Hitting Elden Ring hard on launch tomorrow, and will sprinkle in a bit of Olli Olli World on Switch to keep things chill! What an awesome time to be a gamer.

Re: Switch Is Getting Its First NASCAR Game This Year

Slapsillium

Ive massively fallen back in love with racing games since getting on PS5, have played a bit of Heat 5, and wanted to manage expectations for those getting Daytona Vibes (Its ok, I know; I miss Daytona too...). Unfortunately this is definitely not that. This is more sim than arcade (you can set downforce on a per corner basis ffs lol). Nascar Setting aside it has more in common with Assetto Corsa than it does Daytona and drives as such. Try lock to lock drifting round corners in this game and your just going to the back of the pack.

Re: Video: Check Out Daemon X Machina's 'Mission Zero' Prologue Trailer

This is easily my most anticipated Switch game, has been since first reveal, I cant believe it's here in less than a couple of weeks. Funny thing is I have the demo downloaded but cant actually bring myself to play it, I'm playing silly buggers I know, but being aware that so many changes were made in response to demo feedback I don't want my first experience of the game to be in its "pre-update" state.
Ah well, not long to go now!

Re: Random: Epic Games Sues After Unofficial Fortnite Event Sullies The Brand

Slapsillium

@BumpkinRich Thats my read too, kind of reminds me of the Disney, EA situation when Battlefront 2 micro-transactions were the talk of the town and the Disney CEO had to have a word with his EA counterpart, it wasn't because Disney give a [removed] about loot-boxes, because they don't, they just cannot have the Star Wars brand attached to any negative press. The IP is the most important thing. The reason Epic have done this is due to how negatively the event was received, which in turn potentially damages the Fortnite IP.

I would bet money that if this event had been a resounding success, praised by attendees, Epic would not be taking this step. In fact they would likely have offered official support to the promotors for future events. Epic seem like they have a better track record of positively engaging with the community than a lot of the other big devs / publishers

Re: Random: Chinese Tech Firm Xiaomi Transforms Its Phone Into A Switch With This Accessory

Huawei make nice handsets but it doesn't solve their biggest problem outside of Asian markets which is the distrust the west has of the brand due to thier founders close ties with the Chinese government. It's for this reason their involvement in developing 5G networks in a number of western countries has been heavily restricted. Thier CFO is being extradited to the US to face criminal charges ffs. Until they find some way round this they're not going to be able to seriously challenge Apple and Samsung in the west and end consumer buy in will remain low. But as others have said they are still one of the biggest telecoms companies in the world with just thier presence in Asian markets.

I dont think they really take gaming that seriously tbf, thier general tactic seems to be "throw at the wall and see what sticks" and it works for em so fair play.

Re: Try Not To Get Too Angry At The First 'Hero' Shot From The Upcoming Monster Hunter Movie

Slapsillium

I dont think it's a problem with Hollywood "misunderstanding" games, it's just blatant Hollywood arrogance:

"X is popular so we will leverage that popularity with a live action film. But let's disregard the tone and content that made X popular in the first place, and stick to good old fashioned movie tropes (Guns, soldiers, portal mcguffin). It's cool; I'm a Hollywood film director, so I definately know better than creators and fans who have been invested in this franchise for over a decade."

The Avatar film (Last Airbender) was a perfect example of this. And before anyone says "hey I thought that film was pretty good", the problem was that it had none of the animated series humour or heart, and the characters were changed beyond recognition by a director who thought he knew better.

This is the equivalent of a modern Tom Clancy game; attach a familiar, established name to a generic product = Profit.

Re: Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle - Nirvana For Side-Scrolling Fighter Fans

Slapsillium

Looks real good, am glad to hear a lot of folks are enjoying it. However, despite my love for Final Fight, I'm in agreement with a good few others regarding the omission of AvP, CaD, and the Punisher. They're (along with The Simpsons beat'em'up) the games I was obsessed with as a kid. A Volume 2 with these titles would be an instabuy for me no doubt.

Re: Review: Paladins - Founder's Pack (Switch eShop)

@Painkiller_Mike Not everything. Cards unlock as you play, along with per character progression, and theres an online store with skins etc that can be purchased with the in game currency. The main thing you get with the FP is all characters unlocked.

Re: Move Over Micro Machines, Scalextric Is Zooming Onto Switch Next Week

Slapsillium

That trailer made me sad.

I have always been a bit of a petrol-head and am a huge fan of racing games (arcade and sim). On top of that I loved Scalextric as a kid. So why when those two things are combined does the end result make me want to dive head first out of a 20 story building?

It just looks devoid of any kind of joy or fun. Not a good look for a game...

Re: Bethesda Talks Plans For Future Support On The Switch

Slapsillium

@Heavyarms55 Mass Effect Trilogy on the Switch is the dream, I honestly think it would sell gangbusters. My only concern would be with the sheer amount of voiced audio, Im guessing it would need to be compressed to keep the file size reasonable as cutting audio would be a no, no.

However I was thinking yesterday, if we are talking about bringing over any games / IP owned by the beast, I would very much like to see the Crysis trilogy, or at least Crysis 3, released. And all "but can it run Crysis" jokes aside, as it was able to run well on the X360 / PS3 with the updated engine I would've thought the Switch would knock it out of the park.

Sorry, port beg over, as you were.

Re: Dark Souls Remastered To Feature Improved Frame Rates In Blighttown

Slapsillium

Put about 80 hours into DkS on the 360 on its original release, and must be one of very few people on this planet who never had a horrendous time in Blight Town with slow down, it always worked fine for me, and I farmed over 30 Sunlight medals on the boss so its not like I didn't spend any real time down there.

Kinda feel like I missed out on a key DkS experience...

Re: Video: New Crazy Justice Footage Gives Us The Fortnite Feels

Slapsillium

@Damo Its a bit harsh to call Fornite a straight clone of PUBG. It was in development for over 4 years, and was initially released as a PvE shooter. I paid for the founder pack on launch and really enjoyed the "Save the World" mode, but don't have much interest in 100v1 so never messed with Battle Royal, however I may have a go at the 50v50 if that ever resurfaces. And imo PUBG didn't invent anything. It, and this whole "genre" as far as I can see, is just a Free for All shooter with some specific rules and conventions.

Re: Guide: PAYDAY 2 FAQ - Everything You Need To Know About The Co-Op Heist Shooter

Slapsillium

@RetroGamerAndrew Its been confirmed that the Switch version will release at version 147, which is still behind the PC version but nowhere near as bad as that Reddit thread made out.

Day one buy for me, I enjoyed Payday 2 when it was originally released on the X360 and the Switch version will have considerably more content so I'm good. Its a solid online co-op shooter, I had a blast with it then and I know I will now.
