Maybe they could waited till now to release it. I mean, it still lack of modes, but a couple of characters (Daisy in particular) and a stadium would have still been better to have at launch.
@Pod what I thought exactly. It reminded me Darksiders II where I could see lip sinc in italian too (they hardly do this, but being automated was easy enough to them to add it). Maybe there will be more work in the most complex cutscenes since in Xenoblade there always have been two types of cutscenes, and you can easily tell the difference by the animations.
@JaxonH well, to be honest it's already receiving lots of PSP/Vita games, like Disgaea, Ys, Trails series, Danganronpa, Monster Hunter, Valkyria Chronicles... In fact, I always see Switch as a successor for the PSP, the WiiU (of course), for the Wii (Ring Fit, Arms...), 3DS (Pokemon, Yokai, Ace Attorney...). But I see your point and really hope for the Persona series. And completely agree about the "cloud version" part of the comment
@Yosher oh, but I agree the game should have launched complete (or at least, with a little bit more content), but then again not returning to a game it's just your choice. I can only suggest you to try to open Mario Golf again to find more characters, more courses and more modes, even jyst to try them out.
@Yosher maybe because the contents will arrive with no additional costs, and by the time the game will feel complete, the price will still be the same (it's Nintendo after all), so no reason to wait. And the game it's fun, with or without Daisy.
Everyone says there is less content than the predecessors, but then again, it is true? I mean, yes, there are less characters, but in neither the GC and the Wii ones there were equipments (and there seems to be a lot), in the GC and Wii ones every character had only 2 shirts while there are customizable shirts, and the same goes for the stadium: there are less, but you can customize them and fuse them togheter (and there were no gimmick on the Gamecube ones either). They just preferred to focus on different things this time around (and we still don't know how many cups are there... the GC one had 8 cups, but the Wii one only 3).
@UltimateOtaku91 the point is they could make some littler games too once in a while, and they have done it in the past. Games like Concrete Genie, Wipeout or Everybody's Golf to name a few. Sony and Microsoft in the latest years only made AAA open world, but they can make both big and smaller games, just like Nintendo do. For every Metroid Dread, there's a Brain Academy. For every Kirby Forgotten Land there's a Warioware, and so on. Not saying Sony shouldn't make game like Horizon, just alternate them with something smaller.
@LUIGITORNADO well, it really seems more similar to the GC one: less chaotic, without gimmick for every field, only x2 special shoot (instead of 6),and so on.
@Not_Soos Not really sure about the "everything on the trailer is all there will be on the game". I remember that they didn't show Bowser's Kingdom, Moon Kingdom or Mushroom Kingdom for Mario Odyssey (or even Lake Kingdom), just like they didn't show any post game content for Kirby games, any suit except the first one for Metroid Dread, the last couple of character of Warioware, just to name a few. Of course for the mutiplayer based ones (Sports, minigames, ecc...) is better to show everything there will be, in my opinion, unless an unlockable is something too cool to know in advance.
@Yosher But when Nintendo failed (Wii U), they made a Mario Tennis way more barebones than Aces, a Mario Kart without Battle Courses, Pikmin 3 without Piklopedia, Pokken Tournament with only 16 playable Pokemon, Game & Wario that was even smaller than Get it Togheter... and none of these was "fixed" (only Mario Kart was updated but not the Battle Mode that was it's main problem).
@ArmenianJedi13 it couldn't. It's not just new maps and weapons, there are differences even in the basic movements, jumping, and similar. Changes like that would make all of the already present map in Splatoon 2 to be redone, as the weapons.
@UltimateOtaku91 well, but it's not like they'll ask more money for the updates. Basically it's like you already paid even for golf. Just like Mario Tennis and Golf. You can clearly says that today they are complete games, and they didn't ask for more money, everything they add was for free. I agree that most of these contents should have been already available at launch, but it's still better than paying full price for a few contests and then pay again for more.
Paris is really cool, but I'm enjoying every single track to be honest. I can't understand why many says that the tracks are short, tough. Just look at the ghost staff, they are long just like the tracks of the main game. There are some pretty short and others longer.
@somebread not at all. While I agree you have to play really too much to get everything (especially in that awful online experience), you don't really need to spend money, it's just a way to buy everything faster. But in this game there are a lot of items (being colours, characters, musics and so on) that no matter how much you play, you just have to pay to have it. And CTR had even more content at launch (and was 40€ opposed to Chocobo's 50€)
@K1LLEGAL oh yeah, in fact is that difference that will make me not buy the pass. If I have to play alot or pay to have more things (being characters, karts tracks or whatever) is ok (I played alot CTR and will pay for Mario Kart) but BOTH for a nearly full priced game is nonsense.
I really don't understand the complaints about some sports added later. I mean, they will add them for free. It's clear that if Golf won't be at launch, it's because is not ready yet. Then why didn't they waited till they have all sports ready? I don't know, but meanwhile we can play with the 6 already in, so why should I wait autumn to play tennis, chambara, bowling and the others just to play golf too, considering they'll add the others for free?
@Edwirichuu Yeah, but at least they were free updates too (and for Mario Golf they realesed them pretty quickly). Nintendo has been doing this with lots of titles on Switch, and I like it this way (like in Kirby Star Allies, Mario Odyssey or RingFit, for example), as long as the game is complete even without these updates, of course.
@RupeeClock to be honest, I like it this way. Of course, there are some that were pretty lacking (like Mario Golf and Animal Crossing), but, except those who live with updates (like Splatoon and Arms), all the other games felt complete at launch and gain only marginal things (I'm just talking about free updates, not DLCs). Sometimes weren't even planned (like the extra mode on Kirby). Let's take this Switch Sports as example: I want to play all the sports. Why should I wait autumn to play them all when I can already play all of them except Golf in april? Just like I played Mario Odyssey in October without waiting the Luigi' Baloon to be included (for example)
@HammerGalladeBro since Triple Deluxe? So you skipped Planet Robobot?! I really recommend to play it, I think it's one of the best (while graphics and animations are the same as Triple, it makes everything to feel way differently, and better... and Triple Deluxe was already great!
8. I really like that this year they focused on more niche of their IPs, like Brain Age, , Famicom Detective, Mario Golf (while still Mario, it's even still golf ), Pokemon Snap (same as Mario Golf), Warioware and of course Metroid. Heck, even Advance Wars was supposed to be released this year, and I think we can count even Cruis'n Blast since, while it wasn't developed nor published by Nintendo, is still a Nintendo's IP. And of course we had Bowser's Fury!
@TheWingedAvenger this is not a remake, but a sequel (and the fact that you and many others didn't understand it, it's basically one of the reason why it underperformed ). And the Advance Wars one is a remake of the 2 GBA titles, so not playable on 3DS (or DSi).
I think they added enough, World Tour is still the best one, but this deserves a 2nd place. Is the one with more characters, more courses (except for World Tour + DLC), have a good story mode (better than World Tour but worse than the GB titles), a good amount of modes (thanks to the updates), and good visuals. It was just "ok" at launch, but now it's pretty solid.
Bugs are not even the real problem, since they could be patched (and they are still working on it). The problem is that all the new content are pretty bad. Tails saving slow down the game instead of speed it up, since he hold Sonic a bit too long, the new power sometimes is useless since it brings you in places were you need wisps that you haven't unlocked yet, the race against Metal Sonic are useless and with an ugly hud, soundtrack is worse, as with the new lightning.
I think that we had less modes in this one because Spirits basically replaced them. Mission mode, Master Hand tasks and such wouldn't have made sense, too similar to what Spirits offer. And this one is the more customizable when talking about basic battles. And at least they added throughout updates the Home Run contest and the stage builder.
@nocdaes Well, yes, to be fair I agree that they should have made a DLC with 3-4 boards and 30-40 minigames OR a free update (in that case even with just a new board and 10-15 minigames) for Super Mario Party, but this game still have a sense to exist as a standalone game (not only for its contents, even for its QoL, like the option to remove the bonus stars, things that they would have never introduced as a DLC).
@nocdaes I really can't understand this "should have been a DLC". Super Mario Party was unplayable on Switch Lite, so if these contents would have been a DLC, a Lite owner had to buy a 60$ game PLUS the DLC only to be able to play the DLC contents? This is a separate game exactly because it played in a different way (classic buttons against motion controls of Super).
@nmanifold he, there's always been a single Mario Kart, even if this time is a port (but there is even Mario Kart Home Circuit), but WiiU was the only one with a single Mario Party (3 on N64, 4 on GC, 2 on Wii... even 3 on 3DS!)
@HorridCrow But they actually DID like Arms and Splatoon to Mario Tennis and Golf too. The first one got double the characters, costumes, three minigames, online tournaments for 2vs2, some post game story missions and more option for free play, while in Golf they already added 3 characters and 3 full 18 holes courses (bringing the total from 6 to 9,and now its second only to World Tour), together with difficulty options for CPU and online ranked matches.
@Pokester99 Agree on the critics, but not on the "more ports than original games". Of course I'm sure you only wrote it like that just to emphasize the big amount of ports, but still, for personal pleasure, some times ago I wrote a list of all the Nintendo games on Switch and discovered that there are 52 new games (I counted Nintendo Labo as a single one) and 20 "old" (where for olds I counted both porting/remastered like Skyward Sword and full remakes like Link's Awakening).
@sikthvash i would not use Pikmin 3 as an example of lame port, since it has DLC included, new prologue and epilogue, cooperative story mode (this is big, not for everyone, but big), easy and difficult mode and the piklopedia. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze or Mario U are a better fit. Those are copy-paste with an easy mode added
@rockodoodle Robobot is one of the best Kirby games! But still was able to sell more than a million of units (not much, since it's quality, but not too much different from the others of the series), while the games on the list never even reach a million (unfortunately).
