The latest UK charts data is in and it's another strong week for the Nintendo Switch, with a total of five exclusive titles making up the top ten.
At number one, unsurprisingly, is Mario Strikers: Battle League Football. Released just last Friday, the game has clearly resonated with Switch fans, despite some rather mixed reception. Nevertheless, we loved the game, and gave it a solid 9/10 in our own review.
Elsewhere, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga continues to perform well at number two, with sales for the Switch specifically proving strong. 36% of total sales for the week went to Nintendo's console, with the PlayStation 5 lagging behind at 28%.
The Quarry makes its way into the charts for the first time, too. While not available on Switch, it's worth noting here just how strong sales have been for the PlayStation 5, making up 85% of total sales.
Otherwise, it's business as usual: Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Pokémon Legends Arceus all land a spot in the top ten, proving just how evergreen some of these titles have proven to be.

Wow, Kirby still in the top 10 and gone up
I still find it weird seeing so many Nintendo titles in the charts. Hopefully GTAV will be back next week.
@WiltonRoots
Hopefully GTA V goes and jumps off a cliff, that way we may get GTA VI in the next decade. The reason there are so many Nintendo games in the Top 10 is there are a lot of Switch owners and Nintendo games are fun and polished titles
FIFA!!
** shakes fist **
Should I be surprised Mario Football is doing well in the UK? I personally didn't like what I played in the demo. Will just stick with Mario Tennis Aces.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I thought Kirby would return. There was reported stock issues for the physical game which saw it fall down the charts, looks like some more stock has arrived now 👍
@steventonysmith Oh it will be back next week, it wouldn't be the same without it!
Well done Mario Strikers, for a glorified demo it's
certainly performed quite well 👏
@steventonysmith Admittedly, I would argue against ''polished'' these days. Sure, they're polished in the way that they largely function very well, but their multiplayer games these days launch quite barebones which I would personally not call polished.
At least, not nearly as polished as Nintendo used to make them. So I'm personally still wondering why these kinds of Nintendo games appear in the top 10 charts as often as they do.
Still waiting for it to go under 50% it’s price so I can buy. It was at least 35% when it launched in amazon
@Yosher And yet, it sells like hot cakes. Luckily you're in the weird, whiny minority, dino man.
This game needs more content BADLY. It's a lovely looking game, it plays well and all but good Lord compared to Charged it really is lacking. They need to start rolling out the updates ASAP.
It earn those sales numbers and you brats had to review bomb it on metacritic
@Yosher maybe because the contents will arrive with no additional costs, and by the time the game will feel complete, the price will still be the same (it's Nintendo after all), so no reason to wait.
And the game it's fun, with or without Daisy.
@Yosher
So Mario Strikers, Golf, or Tennis had multiplayer at all on the Gamecube and Wii?
@SilverM
My thoughts exactly, the previous Mario Strikers on the Wii had 13 characters, but that was it. This one starts with ten and it's rumored to gain another 10 through free DLC. I have been having fun playing it with my friends online, and my step Daughter on the couch, she (is 9 yrs old) and clutched us the win in a cup! It was so funny and exciting and one of my more recent favorite gaming moments.
Mario Strikers is gonna have long legs in the UK chart top tens. It's basically FIFA + Mario Kart which have both dominated.
That’s pretty good! However, I was just on Metacritic and the user reviews were at 59.
@Seoxeo I will admit I got these games too. But for me it was because for Mario tennis and golf, I wasn't sure yet how much content there would be at launch. And Strikers I got because I've wanted a new entry in the series for so long, and unlike golf and tennis on Switch, still has a lot of the charm that made the series so popular. Does that make me a hypocrite? Probably, but I can tell you right now that if the next Mario spin-off game does this, I'm not gonna buy it 'til it's actually complete.
Also excuse me if I actually want my full-priced games to be complete. Imagine buying a new car, but they send you the wheels, the steering wheel, the doors, and the motor later free of charge. In waves, with probably at least a month in between each shipment. You'll probably have moved on to another car by then and won't want to look back to the other one because you got sick of looking at that incomplete mess sitting in your garage. Literally feels that way to me.
@SilverM Personally I don't care all THAT much about Daisy. I just wanted more content overall, which most likely would have included Daisy, but there's lots more that I feel should've been in there than just Daisy. Besides, first impressions matter. I never went back to golf and tennis because of bad first impressions and I never felt compelled to return even after all the updates.
@steventonysmith Well, yeah? They all had multiplayer. Only Strikers had online multiplayer on Wii (Tennis and Golf never got Wii-specific entries). Yet there was more to do for the single player and in local multiplayer for those games too. I don't recall a single Mario sports game that didn't have multiplayer. Maybe some of the Gameboy versions but I never played those, personally.
@Yosher
I will correct myself in that Strikers on Wii did have Online multiplayer but the GameCube Strikers obviously didn't. Also the game is complete, you can completely play it and there nothing fundamentally missing. Your example of a car being sold to you missing wheels and a door isn't correct. Because the car would not be able to work as intended. A better example is buying a fully fictional Tesla and getting free updates where you can update your car to let you play games or auto drive. The main bulk of the cost of the game is there, functional and fun and they are, for free, adding additional characters
@steventonysmith Then why do I feel like there's so little to do compared to previous entries? I'll admit the first game in the series didn't have a ton of things to do either but that was literally the first game in the series, it laid the foundation- and I'm pretty sure sequels are generally meant to build upon the foundation that the previous games laid down.
Don't get me wrong, the gameplay in this game is really good and the presentation is awesome and I'm really happy the game exists, but it still feels very empty. I'm sure the free updates will fix it, but they didn't pull me back in for tennis and golf either, so it's still a concern for me.
And my car example still feels on point for me personally because it does feel like I'm barely able to play the game in its current state because of how little there is to do. Like, you can sit in it, you can feel how good the seats feel, you can test out various things like the airco, the lights, and whatnot. But there's too much missing to make it feel functional, and you just enjoy it for a little while at first because you've been wanting a car like this for years before you get bored of the bits you DID get. That IS how it feels to me.
Don't let my opinion get in the way of your enjoyment of course. If you're enjoying it, then I'm real happy for you!
@Yosher
What is missing from the last entry?
Welcome back Kirby. Seem like UK is taking a break from GTA V and Gran Turismo 7 this week.
@steventonysmith
If these things would be added and/or improved, it would definitely feel much, MUCH more complete.
@Yosher
Cheats are dumb and who cares about that. Again about the character count, the sidekicks weren't full characters only the captains could do super moves, now all ten characters can do super moves and can be upgraded with gear (the gear system is new). Also with the two previous games their character list was permanent meaning no additional characters could be added. I have 320+ games so I am not worried about getting my fun out of the game and revisiting it with friends and family when new stuff is introduced but the game is perfectly fine, and I have no idea what the hell a career mode would look like in a Mario soccer game lol
Look at that, "muh unfinished game" still sells like hotcakes.
Guess the loud minority cries themselves to sleep once more.
@Arkay
But they downvoted it and cried really hard on every forum there is, made tons of crybaby YouTube analytical videos. Seems like the masses enjoy fun over belly aching and living in the past lol
@steventonysmith I cared about the cheats. Why else would I mention it otherwise? Sure I'd usually prefer to play without but it could still be fun to just mess around with.
The fact that the sidekicks couldn't do super moves doesn't change the fact that there were still more characters in the first game. Also fun fact: originally, the sidekicks WERE able to perform super moves. They just cut that feature.
The gear system is great, and I do very, VERY much love that feature. But that doesn't mean you won't run into the same characters over and over again, just in different gear.
The previous games didn't HAVE to have content added, as they, for all intents and purposes, felt like actual complete games. Battle League needs content added to feel complete.
I have tons of games too, still have a big backlog to go through, but that doesn't mean I have to settle for new games launching incomplete because ''can just play something else when I get bored of it and come back when more is introduced''.
A career mode could be done in a manner of real life soccer, where you build your own team in the game and play against every other team twice over an entire season and score points for each win or draw match. Could be done both online and offline.
I returned my copy. Was too barebones for me and didn't hold my attention for long. Also, maybe I was too clumsy but I couldn't get 4 VS 4 to work online.
@Arkay
"The Switch title's launch week sales are 20% lower than last year's Mario Golf: Super Rush, and 6% below 2018's Mario Tennis Aces" - Gameindustrybiz
It is the top seller during a quiet period but in a football mad UK the sales figures compared to previous sports titles is actually pretty poor. 6% less than Mario Tennis when the Switch userbase was much smaller?! Yikes.
Maybe people are getting wise to the way Nintendo's sports titles are released in such a barebones fashion so less people are buying them.
@Yosher
Don't waste your time mate.
@Yosher oh, but I agree the game should have launched complete (or at least, with a little bit more content), but then again not returning to a game it's just your choice. I can only suggest you to try to open Mario Golf again to find more characters, more courses and more modes, even jyst to try them out.
@SilverM I probably will eventually once that initial sour experience has worn off. Truth be told, every new game that launches incomplete like this just brings back such memories again and I'm essentially right back on square one regarding that. Which is why I won't be getting the next incomplete game at launch, no matter how badly I want it or how good the gameplay looks. Maybe that's when I'll pop in Tennis, Golf or Strikers again instead and see all the new things they offered in the meanwhile as they then dripfeed the newest game with content that should've been there day 1.
@RubyCarbuncle im pretty sure more content is coming for mario strikers.
Strikers is really fun but god I hope those updates come fast.
