Re: Nintendo Reveals The 2013 Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

Shworange

They are free and all, but this is the lamest group of gifts yet! I'm getting the soundtrack, but I doubt I'll really add it to my iPhone's playlist... A far cry from the statue a few years ago or even the button collection 2 years ago. I little disappointing.

Re: Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Helped Miyamoto Bond With His Daughter

Shworange

My oldest son and I both have a 3DS. It can definitely be a way to share bonding experiences. My wife got a 3DS so she wasn't left out of the mix. I have been replaying through skyward sword with my 5 year old (middle son). It's fun to watch him succeed and be able to step in where he's flailing. Show him dad's mad skills. Nintendo gaming is a family endevour in our family for sure.

Re: Nintendo: Wii U Fire Emblem Would Need To Sell 700K To Justify The Effort

Shworange

I love fire emblem. It's a great unique tactical rpg, but with uniqueness brings niche appeal. Right now, Nintendo needs to sell systems, hence mass appeal mode must be engaged. That I'm sure doesn't mean that fire emblem U won't see the light of day. If in 5 years from now another 40 million systems are sold, we may see the game at the latter part of the WiiU's life span.

Re: Iwata: Third Party Wii U Launch Titles Could Not Enjoy Brisk Sales As Many Were Ports

Shworange

Check out www.vgchartz.com
There's a lot of great info here regarding games sales data. Keep in mind for new releases that data is only updated once a month (on the 15th of every month). It does show interesting things. The crappy port sales were extra crappy. I think only 40,000 copies of mass effect were sold! Similar abysmal numbers for other old ports trended on the WiiU. Third party titles that launched at the same time as the other systems showed some success. Sonic & Sega all star racing transformed sold 240,000 copies. The same number as on the PS3 and very close to Xbox 360. Games like Assassin's Creed III, while launched across all systems at all times, didn't do that great. It sold 5 million copies on the PS3, 4.5 million on Xbox 360, and only 160,000 on the WiiU. The only possible defense I could offer here is to wonder what percent of PS3 and 360 owners purchased the game. If its close to the WiiU owners percentage, then we need to compare apples to apples here. If we assume 80 million PS3s were sold world wide (based on estimates that I found online) that equates to around 5.5% of ps3 owners bought Assassin's creed 3. This is roughly the same percentage for the WiiU!
As Iwata inferred, more system need to be sold. Once that happens, it would be stupid for third parties to ignore the WiiU as long as current titles are being placed on the system.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Has Lost Its "Mojo"

Shworange

I agree with the fact that the Wii U has problems and clearly needs more support. That analysis is spot on. Pachter (which oddly enough just auto corrected to pachyderm) seems however to be actively campaigning against the Wii U. That is silly and juvenile. Point out where Nintendo needs to change and highlight the other systems all you want, but it simply sounds like here that he wants to take Nintendo out.

Re: Phil Fish: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Not Having Microtransactions is "So Special And Precious"

Shworange

Well said Phil. The fact that the game was built to be massive from the start is fantastic. There is a lot of money you could pay for DLC, but how would that be handled? Part of the charm of the game is gifting and trading items to friends. If you buy DLC, and a friend didn't, would that player not be allowed to pick up the DLC item? This game is better for not facilitating paid DLC.

Re: Talking Point: It's Time for Nintendo to Drop Region Locking

Shworange

Not region locking is fine for those who are fluent in the language the game is being imported from, or for classic games where text doesn't add to the game. While I would have loved to have animal crossing when it was released in Japan, it would have been utterly useless to buy it as Japanese is not decipherable by me. I think at least a portion of the argument is that Nintendo can't control the quality if region locking is lifted. That makes sense to me. I understand however that its the gamers choice.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th June (North America)

Shworange

It'll be a sleepless night on Saturday as I eagerly wait for midnight to download. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to download a 1 gb file. I have the fastest Internet comcast has. Coffee will be flowing long into the morning in my town of Chimeria... Unless I change it to the town of Bad Wolf. Maybe Skaro? Dang it, I can't settle on the name!

Re: Shin'en: Wii U Has Enough Power For Years To Come, GPU Is "Several Generations" Ahead of Current Consoles

Shworange

@Midnight3DS
The guy meant years, not generations. We all know that is impossible. A new PS4 isn't powered enough for several generations. Take the overall text of his dialog and don't punish him for one tripped over word.

Why can we be freaking human beings! Why can't we just treat each other with a little thing called decorum? No, now it's all about trying to feel like a big shot by pointing out that a guy used an incorrect word!... If that's how you derive power in your life then I feel really sorry for you. Now of course you're going to continue with this childish little spiral of "no! He said generations!" Or "Generations man! That's what it says!" Or "Generations is at least 25 years! Look it up!". Have the self control and intellectual honesty to just let it go...
