This is a damn shame. It was a good-looking project with passionate developers, but it was killed by devious labor practices. When are game developers going to unionize?
A lot of people have been saying a lot of things about Nintendo lately. Some bad, some bad. However, a lot of these statements seem to have forgotten what a travesty this Nintendo Account and My Nintendo venture is and was. It's horrifying.
@e105zeta Imagine a system like Final Fantasy XIII. Something that is more engaging than a purely turn-based game but also not incredibly difficult to design as long as all of the animations and whatnot are easily standardized. There are opportunities for change that they aren't taking.
@e105zeta Hence me saying that if they just buckle down and try to make each game something new it would be better than just throwing in Pokémon and hoping people eat it up. Just make one last Stadium-esque game with the old combat system and everything, perfect that for people who want to play in the future, and then revamp it for future entries. New combat, new storytelling, new structure.
I'm excited, then. In my opinion, if they just stopped adding Pokémon (except for, say, two legendaries per game) and just focused on creating new and significant experiences the series would be far better off. There's so much that they could do with 800 'mons, so just cap it off as a nice, even 800 and be happy that it isn't any more bloated than it has to be.
I don't understand these comments. Do you folks understand the way that hardware works? They can't get it to work because it physically can't run. It's like asking the SNES to run Crysis.
If anyone wants to discuss the game a bit, I run the official Subreddit at /r/Mother4. It's kind of a shame to see all of these negative comments - they have been working on this game for over 5 years.
I'm fairly excited for this, honestly. I've been wanting to play it for a while - if the extra development time was actually noticeable, count me in! Now Activision, can you take a page from good old Ubi and port Destiny?
This is probably the most obvious click-bait I have ever seen. Hiding the most important part of the article behind the wall... nice job, NintendoLife.
@ryanator008 That's not how money works. People choose where to allocate it - and most don't go for charities. This increases the exposure of one, it doesn't decrease the exposure of others.
@kensredemption No, he didn't. 90% of the praise is because the game "stepped outside of the box" in regards to the character. Yeah, she's a lesbian, whatever. The story itself is... mediocre at best. It feels like a bad short story.
Yep, this is definitely something I am going to install at the end of the generation on a 2DS. Considering the homebrew scene for Nintendo handhelds last for a while after release, this is exciting stuff.
I have extremely mixed feelings on this one. Considering Advanced Warfare will be the first truly new-generation Call of Duty, it is looking to take advantage of the hardware at every step along the way. I imagine that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be similar to the DS versions of CoD - handicapped, not altogether terrible, but far worse than the main releases. Depending on which iteration we get, we can safely know how much power a company like Activision could get of our little engine that could. And, honestly, I'd rather have no AW than a gimped one - this game is looking to finally bring me back into the CoD fold.
@XCWarrior Yeah, Microsoft and Sony lifted some of the restrictions. However, they would also be obliged to take advantage of the far more powerful hardware, which would put a huge dent in their budget.
Just as a note to @XCWarrior, they have confirmed that the game is releasing on the Wii U. However, they don't know if they have the budget for a release across the PS4, Xbox One, AND Wii U. Those consoles cost a ton more to develop for. Also, in a general regard to the story: a twin-stick 2D shooter from Two Tribes that focuses on in-level exploration? Count me in!
@Drac_Mazoku So, in other words: you like the fact that it is in development, but you don't like that it isn't finished? Sounds like this Kickstarter is for you!
@jpelgrom Everything that they have promised that will be in the game is still in the production pipeline. After hearing a lot of people asking if they could still back the project in one way or another, they decided to open up that option. So far, they don't have plans for anything that will change gameplay on a fundamental level or add a ton of content.
It feels more and more that large companies are jumping on the nostalgia train. It is a shame, because they should be pushing the genre forward, not taking it back.
You know, I am feeling extremely conflicted about the fact that Thomas didn't bring up the Advance Wars series. On one hand, they haven't made a game in the series for a while, so it makes sense to not really mention it. On the other hand, this also means that the Wars series is fading into obscurity; at least the Fire Emblem series is close enough to it for comfort. Honestly, I would be perfectly happy if Intelligent Systems became a third party developer and started making games for a variety of systems. Preferably sticking to Nintendo hardware as their system of choice (a la Naughty Dog), but occasionally making games for the PC and whatnot. Wouldn't a Wars game on the PC be completely fantastic? Let me answer that for you: yes.
Guys, I just threw this thing together. Does this look like a nice enough concept boxart for a retail version? Just in case, you know, the game gets a retail version. http://i.imgur.com/dKUaJda.png
So far, this really seems like simply a, well, less enticing A Hat in Time. I can see why they haven't gotten the necessary amount of money. I can imagine this game succeeding 15 years ago, but not now.
@daveh30 Other than, you know, everything Nintendo. The IGN Nintendo team is actually one of the most biased reviewing squads out there; but you gotta love 'em.
@Senario A 6.5 on Destructoid is an above-average score. They actually take advantage of their numbers, which is similar to PC Gamer. Unfortunately, Metacritic takes everything on the same scale.
@elstif You... don't seem to understand how consoles work. Just because something is based off of a similar architecture DOES NOT mean that they are software-compatible by nature.
