@FreakFerrett >The game never was supposed to be a Spyro game above all
Go back to 2011. Classic and TLOS Spyro fans gone crazy hearing there's a new Spyro game in comming and the headlines were exploding on the internet. The Dead Sea would be jealous with all the salt I saw after the reveal. Right now it is obvious that Skylander's is not a Spyro game (that's why it still holds up imo as it can evolve without Spyro's universe limits). But back then people's hope was ruined.
Some liked the idea but many backslashed the game. Kinda like the recent "female" Ghostbusters movie.
>when a famous actor does a cameo on a movie, you cant say it is the protagonist.
Let's name the next super hero movie: Iron Man, and Stan Lee's adventure what you talk about here is more how 7th episode of Star Wars used Han Solo Character. Still part of the franchise, but not that important anymore. Star Wars got it right tho and it's still in the right universum.
>a business, it won't survive just by the love of fans it needs to catch on a wider audience
Obviously it is a business and companies can do whatever they want to to get more moolah (see Konami's recent reveal or MGS lol). But aiming at wider audience or experimenting is not always the best thing to do, as you may loose those unique and characteristical elements that distinguished and defined the game. And this is why you keep playing it, right? Because it offers something different than others. Just look at Sonic franchise how they keep experimenting with their games, Sonic Boom, Sonic Unleashed et. al. are more notable examples of missing the point while that newest 16-bit looking game is like the sweetiest thing that happened to the fans in ages (or so I heard).
You can do it as Pokemon do - repeat the same formula for 20 years, being afraid to be creative (inb4 SM), literaly sucking all the nostalgia. Or, make a decent game that everyone will like, not just the kids (Yooka-Laylee is a quite good example here).
>Do you really think that Skyro ws the sole reason why it became one of Activision's greatest games?
No, I don't think it was the sole reason. But it helped to boost the first sales and establish the franchise. In business the more they talk about you - good or bad - the better. Later success was achieved by using kid's natural need to collect things and perhaps clever advertising and regural expansions. The series could began without starting as a Spyro knock off imo and, as I said, perhaps getting to nowadays ranks but in a longer time.
>it is not a game for everyone, it is a game that isnot too deep and is supposed to be fun, you cant expect a 3 year old to enjoy and play Darksouls.
See, I have here 2 kid games. Skyladers and Banjo-Tooie. Both played first time ever exactly 1 year ago (no nostalgia googles here!). But it's Banjo-Tooie I continue on Xbox, even with outdated graphics and all the justified rage I have when playing it.
Obviously, not all kids will enjoy BT kind of gameplay, but... BT feels superior in each inch.
But hey! I gave Skylanders a chance. Afterall, how can I criticise something if I haven't tried it? Spyro or not, Skylanders is not for me. Big 'meh' for me.
My biggest issue here is simply that the original trilogy is really good and kiddos get a distorted image of what once was a good franchise. It would be better if Spyro was a cameo indeed, similarly to Crash now. But it started as it started (as a new Spyro game) and butthurt is strong in me
@TrueWiiMaster I live in a such country but it is true there are like few of them. I will give you an example why I think it's good. Once, I bought a Therion's CD album. My discman scratched it badly like week later, removing the whole burnable layer and making one song unplayable in the middle.
I keep the original CD in a box, but I also have the album downloaded and burned to a CD, which is sticked to the box's back
I think data should be somehow protected and we should be able to have at least one copy spare. Drives can go broken, accidental deletion happens or discmans destroy a CD. Some games' future lays on digital copying and sharing - the older games I mean, forgotten and unsuported. Those that can be still bought normaly should be... bought!
I see what you meant. The review much hint to the piracy, which is unusual for NL. My guess is that the writter talks about the games you already own - that exuses downloading a ROM in my view. Flashcards are allways a risky topic, regardless of what the intention of the writer was.
@TrueWiiMaster Everdrive cannot pirate games. It only plays ROMs - pirated or not. No one forces you to play pirated games. You can store your owned games' ROMs and play it on this thing. Maybe download ROMs of the games you already own (downloading a software for personal use, if you already own it physicaly, is legal in some countries btw). But obviously, most will use this device to download ROMs of games they don't own.
It's just a tool to store and play multiple games on an original hardware. How it will be used depends on the people. Some people have a good use in mind (see samuelvictor posts). Some don't.
@AlexSora89 I'm enoying your post on this topic. I noticed that your posted videos does not show up and shows error (at least for me). You may want to edit the code or post plain links.
@FreakFerrett Spyro character was used as a lure for all the Spyro fans from the still fresh TLOS, and maybe some original Spyro fans that thought it will be as good as the original and bought it for their kids. Without Spyro, would you even look up at the ridiculous idea of playing a medicore linear platformer/hack'n'slash where you have to buy expensive figures to progress, at that time? The game could end as a curiousity, slowly crawling in the popular ranks, maybe achieving the current status but after a longer time. I belive there are better way to introduce the character to younger audiences, rather than shoving the IP to make the buzz around the communities just to get enough attention to sell the game more than it would without the character. I'm sorry, but I cannot count Skylanders' Spyro as an official iteration of the character. It's a knock off that can't follow the source material well, ignoring Zembillas design or even TLOS design. I would rather see Spyro franchise die than be used in a such exploative way as it was used in Skylanders. At least after 10 years, in 2018 someone other than Activision could take the IP and maybe do it better. The original trilogy still holds up in the modern times, so why not show that to the kids and maybe THEN add Skylanders to your game library.
Idea of Skylanders may be fun for some, but as for me, Spyro does not exist in those games as the dragon doesn't even look like Spyro and the game focus is to use whatever character you like on tight levels, instead of playing as a dragon and exploring freely in the world boundaries you are in. Spyro spirit does not exist in those games and the only bearable way for me, to stand the franchise, is by looking at it as a spin-off. Just like I look at some bad, but sometiems fun pokemon spin-offs. That's my attitude and opinion towards the series.
With all that above, I accept and respect your point of view and your thoughts. If you think it did positive things to keep the IP alive and revelant nowadays then it's fine. And hey, it indeed did that. If you enjoy the gameplay then that's good. I cannot enjoy it that much as it feels too bland for my taste (even without Spyro). Each to their own.
Cortex is looking like they were inspired by Twinsanity. Despite to my negative attitute towards Skylanders (and what they did to Spyro), I'm liking both figures. Is there any other way to NOT to buy a starter pack and just to get the figure(s) alone?
@BensonUii Local electronic shops had moved their powerbanks from the shelves and put them displayed at the very entrance when Pokemon GO was launched here
@Windy Good that you found it. You will need to repeat the process each time when a new update rolls. But always remember to download from trusted sources!
@Uzuki Yeah, the stats changes were much appreciated but pokes from other gens received some boost as well. Hmm, maybe that is the reason why GF decided to swap the types of the 1st gen pokemon? People who like old pokes can't use them because they are weak (typing/abilities/etc) competetive wise? They can use them now, sort of, as Alolan.
@skywake By hacking didn't mean the site. I mean the temptation and open possibilities it could give to hackers.
Well, I guess if it was harmless - just peeking at the stats - with no options to edit the stuff, then it could pass.
But why not use the other offline alternatives? They exist, and you are certain you don't break TOS. You just use your visible ingame data.
The broken radar had no alternatives (apparently it is less broken now but haven't got the time to test it) so people kept using PV and similar sites for lack of other, in game related, choices.
My main complaints is the voice of the bear, the non stop un-escapeable question flood from it, the repetition and sligthy too long loading screens - at least those are related to the demo.
But my biggest issue I have here is that...
... that it isn't available in all the languages.
"That said, his pronunciation is good, and will teach children how to say certain things." The game was advertised (rather: copy-pasted and translated English description of the advert) here like you it can help your kids how to speak.
Yeah, but only in like 5 languages in Europe. For the rest - the kid will have to memorise which option does what and deal with the dead-sounding foreign voice synth - not the best way to learn a language either. Not to mention how small the 3DS user base is in the unsupported countries.
They are pretty much aiming at UK/Germany market, maybe France and Spain. And yet they choose to ignore the whole America? Forgive me if I'm ignorant, but wouldn't it be more profitable to make NA release, where most people speak English and French, and the other languages pretty much cover the whole society? Even if they think the game won't sell well in NA, wouldn't the profit be comparable, if not higher, than from the 5 countries in Europe, given how big NA population is?
@sillygostly I typed that in positive meaning. I always felt that there aren't enough Ghost types.
As for your previous comment, I have mixed feelings about the Alolan forms. From one side it's exciting to see what they can come up with, from other the whole thing scream "look genwunners, buy our new games now?", from yet another side it's kinda like they indeed run out of the ideas and, finally, the forms may be the most creative thing introduced in the series?
On top of that, I'm concerned just like you, wheter the other gens get some Alolan/whatever other region in the future forms. I would definitely see Alolan Tropius in the region or... Grass/Fire Treecko? But also I'm concerned about what has happened to Mega Evolutions? I would love to see more gen 2 Mega forms.
And what if Alola forms won't be handled like Shellos? What if the form will be carried by a female species? Or be randomized, like Nidoran's breeding? How else, in far future, some competitive players could breed a legit ice Vulpix with the future equivalent of 6th gen Pentagons? Shellos form doesn't matter in competitive play, but ice Vulpix? That can shake some things here and there.
The castle is a big suprise, but honestly, I like it. At least its square shapes have more logic than some other triangular or oval pokemon that are based on living things.
Trubbish and Magnemite still looks the best from the inanimate object pokemon imo, but the sandcastle pokemon is better explained than the ice cream pokemon. The Ghost part of the pokemon may control the sand so there is a room for our imagination about how the ghost core look like.
Meowth looks a bit weird but I don't mind it, frankly.
The only thing that makes no sense for me is Alolan Marowak. Obviously, the pokemon is purely fan service. And that is what bothers me.
There is no direct relation to that one single deceased Marowak mother. Even if that dead Marowak could somehow populate the whole Alola with her ofsprings, Serebii translates that some Marowak developed into this form. So why not try another typing instead?
I see it as Cubone/Marowak somehow "died" and turned into Ghost type.
Also, is it me, or there are like alot Ghost pokemon in Alola region?
@skywake The methods you described I compare to IV checking ingame and IV calculators on Serebii or such. This site however looks like Pokesav to me. I guess it was fine if it didn't allow to edit pokes... Just looking at them. But how can you grarantee that someone wouldn't hack this thing someday?
As I said, I'm not sure how it worked and how you can hack this game. But I belive this site could guide some cheating users to break the game.
As for me, I'm catching pokes and compare which poke's hemisphere is less full at the same, or similar, amount of CP, and check the HP. With some IV calc check if I really need to get more info. That said, I prefer power up something that has already filled hemisphere as Stardust and candies are too sparse. I don't get many pokemon anyway so I can't fuss about.
@skywake I get that those other sites drained the servers but I think this one could be more more harmful - gameplay wise (not stability wise). I see it as an equivalent to looking at a poke's stats with PKHeX. And that's not to short from editing or inserting a pokemon. I'm not sure how you can edit (or if you can edit) cloud stored pokes in this app, but some players could get too much advantage. At least PV served as a replacement for a boken and removed core feature of the game... A crutial thing if you live in Ingress unpopular areas.
Obviously, having IVs or just Base Stats visible from the beginning would be preferable. In the main series you have access to poke's IVs, albeit it's limited as of gen VI.
Never heard of it. Aren't people calculate the IVs on calculator sites?
@plug313 as Grandpa said - servers are expensive.
They found themsleves suprised by the amount of people interested in GO so I bet they invested in some. But I belive soon half of those people move to something else (if they haven't already) freeing up the space, so the logical point is to NOT to add server capacity but just wait for people to leave and cut off other 3rd party sites.
@MrGuinea Advice: keep restarting GO often if you want to refresh the nearby pokemon list. The radar downloads and keeps some old data and sometimes doesn't refresh automatically. Meaning that it won't show the new pokemon, and old, long-despawned pokemon, cluster your list.
Without any tracker it's still luck, but at least you will know what actually spawned for real, and it may be slighty more possible to track it using its position on the refreshed nearby list.
@Jeronan If you don't have enough Pidgeys and Weedles to evolve, use Lures and Lucky Egg combo - 30k to 50k granted.
Tons of players camp at pokestops few hours daily, farming pokemon, lurying, luckyegging and leveluping. They only leave if they need food or a Dragonite appear nearby and run in around the city.
Those players aren't going to level up faster anyway, their 1 level is your 5 levels.
@R-Moss the game doesn't require advanced English. If kids who don't know what "revive" means play it, your girlfrend should have no problem as well.
@Jeronan In that case, I hope you didn't invest in IAP :U My advice: if you like the game, you may want to ask for more stops and gyms there, when Niantic open PoGo/Ingress requests again. Get more people to report a place, so Niantic will notice it as a worthy.
GF is allways working on a new pokemon game. Alola region was hinted in XY so I bet they work on 3rd iteration or 8th generation now. They may not know how to optimize their games, but they do know how to produce those games in never ending stream. Anyway, it's better if system has game support. Mario, Pokemon and other exlusives will surely help selling NX.
@Jeronan That's why I said I'm interested in the actual data, not what the people feel. Mind can be manipulated too easily. Those mass reports need to be supported by a research or a proof.
Catching difficulty raises with player's level - I heard that a lot. People may be high enough to notice the change, and blame the update for that.
I will repeat: if the core feature would work, there wouldn't be so many butthurt people who used vision. Cheating or not, for some people living in less Ingress popular areas, the game turned unplayable, and it worked at the beginning.
I saw pokevision as a temporary replacement. If people enjoy random encounters - it's fine. But some enjoyed tracking more - the way how the game supposed to be played judging from the beta, trailers and official info.
Obviously, there is no exuse for spawning hi-CP poke at your house, or no exuse for that Articuno. Those are literaly breaking the game. Those should be easily spotten and banned however.
Btw, you must be really lucky to encounter 4 pokemon within 20 minutes... Your 20 minutes is mine 3 hours. Not counting lures and city centre trips where the pokemon appears at every corner.
@Jeronan The pokemon do move more and jump around (Weedle), many are farer away (Venonat, Drowzee). I have also noticed an increased rate of Pidgeys CP100 breaking from the ball, and Weedles CP 10-70 fleeing. But that of that may be related to my level. It feels like common pokemon have higher rate of fleeing. All the uncommon monsters (Drowzee, Venonat, Eevee) are more likely to stay in battle. Dunno about rares. I would be rather more interested in the facts and numbers. Individual subjective feel isn't worth discussing as it bears no actual data, unless one had a considerable numbers of encounters and they wrote them down and it can be compared on the same level. People on the internet says it's harder but that may be mass placebo.
@Raylax It's worth getting and it works. You track the mon without knowing where it is, and only those that should appear on nearby list (restart GO if you don't have the most recent pokemon and to get rid of the phantom - despawned - pokemon!). The distance is in meters, just like in beta. Feels like this should be the radar from the beginning. The only advantage is that you know the time (you can plan ahead where to go). But trade-off is that you can't hatch eggs when using it, currently
@Yorumi I know. Just wanted to add another view at the post game. For me the that part is mainly a marathon of endless battles with AI that knows your team and moves, and throws pokes effective against yours. And Ice Fangs that make flinch 2x in a row and then freeze, ugh.
I get more fun battling real people... ... but you know, shiny maxed out legends everywhere.
Yet, higher AI and higher oponents' levels would be much appreciated.
@KittyKatta I have hear that they increased the difficulty of catching pokemon; made pokemon more hostile and mobile, changed their distance, made them break easy from balls and increased the escape rate. But I never seen numbers. Is the percenage confirmed?

With all that above, I accept and respect your point of view and your thoughts. If you think it did positive things to keep the IP alive and revelant nowadays then it's fine. And hey, it indeed did that. If you enjoy the gameplay then that's good. I cannot enjoy it that much as it feels too bland for my taste (even without Spyro). Each to their own.
Re: Crash Bandicoot's Nemesis Is Confirmed For Skylanders Imaginators
Cortex is looking like they were inspired by Twinsanity.
Despite to my negative attitute towards Skylanders (and what they did to Spyro), I'm liking both figures.
Is there any other way to NOT to buy a starter pack and just to get the figure(s) alone?

@BensonUii Local electronic shops had moved their powerbanks from the shelves and put them displayed at the very entrance when Pokemon GO was launched here

@ikki5 Oh gosh, I think you may want to delete your 8 other duplicated comments Seems like you had a connection error.
Re: Niantic Issues a New Pokémon GO Update
@Windy Good that you found it. You will need to repeat the process each time when a new update rolls. But always remember to download from trusted sources!
Re: Another Quirky Pokémon Has Been Spotted for Pokémon Sun and Moon
I loved it the first time I saw it. I have always wanted a sea cucumber pokemon :')
Re: Another Quirky Pokémon Has Been Spotted for Pokémon Sun and Moon
@Acein210 This isn't Pokemon GO thread. Aren't you usually posting those comments on Pokemon GO news?
Re: New Pokémon and Antagonists, Team Skull, Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon
@Uzuki Yeah, the stats changes were much appreciated but pokes from other gens received some boost as well.
Hmm, maybe that is the reason why GF decided to swap the types of the 1st gen pokemon? People who like old pokes can't use them because they are weak (typing/abilities/etc) competetive wise? They can use them now, sort of, as Alolan.
Re: Review: Puzzle Labyrinth (3DS eShop)
I'm considering buying it someday. Thanks for the review.
Re: PokéAdvisor is the Latest Third-Party Pokémon GO Service to Bite the Dust
@skywake By hacking didn't mean the site. I mean the temptation and open possibilities it could give to hackers.
Well, I guess if it was harmless - just peeking at the stats - with no options to edit the stuff, then it could pass.
But why not use the other offline alternatives? They exist, and you are certain you don't break TOS. You just use your visible ingame data.
The broken radar had no alternatives (apparently it is less broken now but haven't got the time to test it) so people kept using PV and similar sites for lack of other, in game related, choices.
Re: Review: Teddy Together (3DS eShop / 3DS)
Re: New Pokémon and Antagonists, Team Skull, Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon
Re: New Pokémon and Antagonists, Team Skull, Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon
Re: Niantic Issues a New Pokémon GO Update
@Windy Download apk.
Re: PokéAdvisor is the Latest Third-Party Pokémon GO Service to Bite the Dust
Re: PokéAdvisor is the Latest Third-Party Pokémon GO Service to Bite the Dust
Re: PokéAdvisor is the Latest Third-Party Pokémon GO Service to Bite the Dust
Never heard of it. Aren't people calculate the IVs on calculator sites?
@plug313 as Grandpa said - servers are expensive.
They found themsleves suprised by the amount of people interested in GO so I bet they invested in some. But I belive soon half of those people move to something else (if they haven't already) freeing up the space, so the logical point is to NOT to add server capacity but just wait for people to leave and cut off other 3rd party sites.
Re: Talking Point: Pokémon GO's Next Major Update Should Target Gen VII Pokémon
How would we evolve Golbat or Scyther then?
Re: Pokémon GO Rolls Out in Latin America as Niantic Reclaims Legendary Pokemon
@MrGuinea Advice: keep restarting GO often if you want to refresh the nearby pokemon list. The radar downloads and keeps some old data and sometimes doesn't refresh automatically. Meaning that it won't show the new pokemon, and old, long-despawned pokemon, cluster your list.
Without any tracker it's still luck, but at least you will know what actually spawned for real, and it may be slighty more possible to track it using its position on the refreshed nearby list.
Re: Pokémon GO Rolls Out in Latin America as Niantic Reclaims Legendary Pokemon
Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools
@Jeronan In that case, I hope you didn't invest in IAP :U
My advice: if you like the game, you may want to ask for more stops and gyms there, when Niantic open PoGo/Ingress requests again. Get more people to report a place, so Niantic will notice it as a worthy.
Re: Sources Suggest That Pokémon and Mario Will Arrive on Nintendo NX in First Six Months
Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools
Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools
Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools
Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Thank you.
Re: New Pokémon, Areas, Trials and 'Z-Moves' Are Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon
Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools
@KittyKatta I have hear that they increased the difficulty of catching pokemon; made pokemon more hostile and mobile, changed their distance, made them break easy from balls and increased the escape rate. But I never seen numbers. Is the percenage confirmed?
