I had the feeling they will do something like this.
But aren't the 'mons models hi-res anyway? Look at Pokedex 3D pro models - those are the same but with scaled down textures in games. At least it looks like that.
@Obito_Sigma You pay for Nintendo mark. I bet many people would choose anything with Nintendo in the name, than something with yadayadasparklingsomething, even if it's obviously better. Hence the higher price: they know it will sell.
So, instead of removing the photo option or banning users who sent the illegal imagery, they made the free app unusuable for everyone owning 3DS.
And it only took them 3 years to release a replacement.
And because Nintendo goes with the times, they put micro(or rather macro)transaction in it.
And they removed previously freely featured pens & stationeries and made the app as bare as they could, so the microtransactions appear tempting to an user...?
And on top of that... they put "lessons" into it to exuse the purchasing more stationeries?
Well... Good job?
Also, a small spoiler in the part about Ultra Beasts?
From the review I gathered: they still forces the tutorial (a tutorial should always be optional), there are many areas to explore (good!), way better plot (even better!), there is almost no 3D effect (bummer) and the game is worth to play in general.
@Waann Hello! I'm sorry for so long time to reply, but as you probably figured out, I couldn't find the time to finish the test thing :/ But there's another pixelart tool: PixelMaker out now and I heard it supports png! Seems like the better choice here
@JaxonH It's amazing how people can easy get butthurt if someone have a different opinion. Ignorant? Not honest with themselves? Really?
It's a game creating tool, with Mario themed 2D platformer editor. Regardless of how good the controls are, and how well the gamepad was used in this title, it is still a level creator with an option to play other people's levels. The Wii U online sharing is what makes it shine now, because playing a Mario level created by others is the gameplay in this title. All the rest is creating your own content, which, as fun as it sounds, I cannot classify as a gameplay per se.
If you like the software then fine, geez. But don't be suprised that many aren't interested in that kind of interactive entertainment.
And as far as I like fiddling around editors in games, I would much rather play Little Big Planet or Spore than Mario Maker. Thank you.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE If a glorified level editor: the game is one of the best games on the system then I doubt anyone will remember fondly Wii U in the future. If any, more like a curiousity. Dreamcast to this day have online games, supported by private servers done by fans, much much bigger game library with new commercial/free indie games still being released on the system and... it sold way better in shorter time than Wii U. Just saying :Y
@khaosklub When walking on streets in more busy areas, I see the spots ahead on the screen, so I know when it is the time for another peek in the bag. But I may have less spawn'n'spots invaded area than you. Here are just few, if any, spots in the malls that ain't worth to pick as the GPS acts crazy in such buildings. It's much better going outside as the city is full of monuments, easy to rememeber. You may try make your girl memorize some spots and spawns. It's nicer to go outside and appreciate the surroundings than looking down on the screen constantly (and that's safer!)
@XCWarrior @Buizel
Tablets. They have no vibration.
When GO-ing in the city centre, I keep mine in the bag, hidden, and take a peek what's on the route each 20-30 meters I pass tho, so I'm not glued to it.
@AVahne Naah, it's better since NNID inclusion (although I lost access to some digital games I purchased because of NNID) - because they now keep your account data and they may transfer it when asked for - in cases exactly like ours. The unfortunate thing is that, that some regions aren't... exactly well supported (if supported at all) and the whole thing still works like it's 2006 or smth. Some customers and countries are just better to invest in, from N's perspective. Well, that's why I support homebrew on 3DS - I can backup and store my save data on computer and inject it to a game, when needed ;]
Anyway, thank you for your concern and for the best luck wishes
@AVahne Hey, thanks for the reply. That's what I talked about. But apparently it only works if you have stolen (with police proof) or lost system. And, from what I gathered, your save data is lost - yet, I may be wrong here as well, it's also conjecture.
Supposely, if we could talk (phone call), and simply say the system is so broken there's no other way, they would do the account transfer, regardless if the system is lost or stolen. Sadly, we aren't in the same country the Nintendo residents, so the phone call is unlikely atm. And as I said, Nintendo wasn't eager to reply to my and others emails in the past. If lucky, they may send us a stock reply and ask to send the thing there.
We prefer to buy yet another new system and do the risky system transfer by our own. But if the 3DS won't respond anymore, we may as well try pursuing Nintendo to do the account transfer and dealing with the possible save data loss. We have to buy a new N3DS anyway. And after the purchase decide what to do next.
Either way, we are used to a such situation as it's not the first time here. There's no rush as that N3DS is broken anyway and we can use few other 3DSes we have to play physical games instead... Although, it's a bit uneasy knowing the digital purchases are locked away, with a risk of loosing them.
I prefer retail preorders. Sometimes there are bonuses, sometimes the games are 2 days before the release date and... Pokemon games' money value often raises after few years (PAL Black 2 for example) meaning you may later sell it with some gain, in emergency situations.
Meanwhile, one of our N3DS is broken with no option to transfer lots of digital content goodies to another system, unless we're lucky at forcing it to work, or send it to the repair which costs around the same as buing a new N3DS. Well, we could "say" that we "lost" the system and hope that Nintendo will do the account transfer to a new N3DS without the need to ship the broken one to another country... but isn't all the save data lost in that way?
That is, if they respond in the first place. Never got a reply from them tbh. That situation is... quite annoying, to say the least.
So yeah, we had few of such issues in the past with 3DSes and I'm supporting retail preorders on Nintendo systems
@khaosklub Dang, I remember the long discussion and arguments back then. People are still cringy over the article? Obviously Ash and Red are two different people. We have Ash-Greninja, not Red-Greninja after all, haha.
I found most DS games being gimmick-y in touch screen department. Or games with touch controls forced. Some weird directions and such. 3DS got it more right. Devs learned how to use it, although some games had that gimmicky feel to them. Frankly? 3DS have more gimmicks to be worried about, haha. Anyone even remember the AR cards? Wii U? Uh, don't have one...
Right now I can't think of anything dual screen heavily dependant other than EO and maybe MH or some games you play in book mode...? 999 had its great use of the touchscreen later in the game that contributed to the story. And even if there are more of such games - like all of them (minus EO) can work without the second screen anyway. But yes, I am accustomed to a two screen handheld; I see Switch more of a stationery console. A portable stationery console.
I'm not suprised nor disapointed. I will miss the feature sometimes, though.
@gatorboi352 I'm in the opinion that untill you try it, you won't really know how how it feels like. I would assume 2DS is weird to hold but seeing it on display I found it strangely comfortable, for example.
@Anti-Matter Hmm, I'm not sure what are you refering to as I don't own Wii nor Wii U. All images and videos I see on Google show a normal gameplay to me. Etrian Odyssey uses touchscreen to draw your map manually, on the fly as you walk in the labyrinth. Drawing those maps is one of the most crutial aspects of the game and serves as the main feature. It's important for the gameplay to have it all the time visible and accesible, without the menu hassle.
And to your 113th comment. I belive it should have some kind of instant message and/or phone call equivalent included. Without the censoring or banning (Swapnote/Flipnote Studio anyone?) and improved social service (Miiverse). A tablet without social connection is a waste - from a casual's view. Also, casuals love mobile, simple games, and tablets/smartphones are simply perfect for short burst of gaming in public transport. I imagine they would take an advantage and publish some Android games onto it. The device not only would fit for hardcores (assuring the strong start) but with all of the above, it should appeal to casuals as well. That's just a theory, not saying they will do all of these.
I can see how two screen gaming could be an issue for the devs and also how gimmicky it sometimes is. Most of the times the screen serves as a quick inventory or map - useful but not essential. In case of pokemon it greatly influences the flow of the battle but you can still do the same things via buttons. One Majhong game on 3DS uses the screen as a mouse/touchpad but selecting the tiles directly on the screen sounds more efficient.
Second screen serves as a convenience, but for the most part it isn't essential for a succesful gameplay.
Yet... There's Etrian Odyssey.
I guess you will be missed.
...Unless they split the screen verticaly somehow :U
@Anti-Matter (your first comment) Wasn't 3DS capable of displaying higher quality images, but was limited by the screen resolution though? I may be wrong but I heard something about that somewhere. Not that I'm willing to play 3DS games on a TV but pointing out the graphics may be tad better than we think.
@MysticX By that I meant: if there are any creative parts in the story, I would like to witness them by my own eyes. If they spoil that, the game will turn into Red and Blue, the easy edition; go from point A to B, beat some trainers and maybe catch some pokemon. But with hand holding this time.
No gyms, UBs and perhaps two teams, sounds like they wanted to shake things a bit and this is why I'm interested in S&M. And I'm also hoping for interesting locations to visit and explore by myself. All of that making the traveling from point A to B worth it.
Game of Monster is on my Play Store. The screenshots however don't show this amount of pokemon-models rip-off like in the video. The creatures are still knock offs tho (Lugia-Yveltal one for example).
@Thegentleman Electroplankton can be bought on the eShop... but I guess DSiwares would be a nice change. This would bring some attention to the older downloadable games. But 3DS has a restricted memory for DSiware so I think the chances of that happening are low.
Something similar just has happened here. Only on 3DS, where the system's touchscreen and controls stopped responding, being unable to even do a system trasfer if a new system is purchased - just to save the data and the games. Distributor said to update the firmware and if that won't work, contact the shop where the system was purchased. Fantastic. The purchased games may be as well lost if Nintendo won't somehow "transfer" ID content to a new 3DS.
@Apple-sensei "The game is in 2D. Some areas are also available in 3D." They used the same text for XY. Pokemon SM will have seldom use of 3D and I only hope for better looking battles... Monster Hunter of Zelda are much better examples of competent use of 3D, though Zelda doesn't support online.
I'm not defending Mario Maker on 3DS in any way. Just pointing out that Pokemon games aren't the best games to compare - in terms of graphic and usage of 3D.
@TheLZdragon The biggest change was between gen 1 and 2 and then 3. Frozen status would last forever in gen 1, unless you used Ice Heal, got attacked by a Fire move or Haze or went to a pokecenter. In gen 2 it had 10% chance to defrost and you had to wait 1 more turn to attack after defrosting. What we have now is more or less the same thing as in gen 3: 20% chance to thaw. I think those changes were the good ones, otherwise it will ruin you in competetive! Freeze was a devastating status condition, now it's more bearable Unless... they did nerfed the Freeze formula in gen 7, and I don't know about it? Please tell me they didn't
Those were very well done backgrounds, really entertaining to look at them. Lots of well placed details and great color compositions on them. There weren't that many animated elements unfortunately, and some of them more felt Flash-like than traditional. Yet, I would like to see more animation in that video, as it reminds me more of a slide show, instead of an animated movie trailer. An impressive slideshow though: the visuals and music complement each other.
@LegendOfPokemon It's been always like that. The games belong to two different generations, you would never trade back. Exluding gen 1-2 that is, but who remembers that?
What I find funny is that the process, which was always free (minus needed add-ons), requires a payment to do so where no add-ons are needed But it's more convnitent now, I must admit that.
I was very unhappy when the poison status was so much nerfed in gen IV, ended as non existing nowadays. Where's the sense of adventure, thrill of loosing your partner and rushing back to pokecenter?
Now the status conditions don't even mater in the basic gameplay. I get it - you can heal your friends by taking care of them but... sigh, Pokemon is loosing its RPG elements I liked...
@AlexSora89 Seems like the bank is a big issue for you. Sorry to hear that other pokefans won't be enjoying their games as they wanted. Saw the comments on the other topic. I hope you won't get too much spoilers if you decide to wait for the bank.
@Ed_Fairway Hmm, I think I have messed up, try this: link Also, I got the text I was talking about (please look at that one at your own risk - possible (?) spoilers and crude language): link. Let me know if they work!
@Ed_Fairway The updated version was deleted but I found older version here: http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1154563-pokemon. The updated version included more commentary on the images about what was confirmed and what was not so not a big miss here. But it also had more interesting screencaps of someone explaining that they can confirm some leaks and that Rockruff does have split evo, starters have them too, and that those evos are version exlusive. That part was particulary spoilery about other gameplay features.
@rjejr The "Pro" name is used to distinguish it from the free version of the same thing. Pokedex 3D isn't available anywhere by now thought, and it required actively using spotpass/streetpass to unlock all the BW creatures. Pro added every pokemon from gen 1 to BW2, plus some minor features, but aside from that it's the same thing as the original free version. They could charge half of the price, and because it's outdated now, they may as well do a permanent discount if they don't want to update this thing. I don't think it's entirely Nintendo's fault on the steep price tag. The pokedex was developed by Creatures (the models you see there are used everyelse nowadays), which owns part of the pokemon shares. I guess it's Pokemon Company who is making the prices here, not Nintendo. Similar thing is available on iOS: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/10/official-pokedex-app-coming-to-ios which I don't have so I can't really tell you much about it :/
5 USD per year isn't that a big deal tbh, but I understand your and your kid's unwill towards the idea, after experiencing Pro.
@Xaldin According the revelant leaks, you may be right. Starters will have different evolution depending on the version you choose. Not all the details matches, but they correctly got various pokemon earlier, including that "rugby monkey". Don't read those leaks tho, if you want to avoid possible spoilers!
@BLPs First third apart of the Kalos journey was fun and immersive... The rest of the game, I can agree with you. It just feels that the game was rushed and various content was cut.
@KO-Cub AFAIK in the first days people didn't know how to hack the games due to their freshness. Hackers needs some time to work with the software, if there was an exploit allowing to hack the games in its early days, then it must have missed my attention. Bank actually alows you to import hacked pokemon - they just need to be legit made. So a non shiny Arceus with 6IVs shouldn't be a big problem to transfer.
@rjejr Pro was lacking of information from the beginning, though seeing the mons in 3D was a nice touch at the time. But the dex is even more outdated now. Bulbapedia and Serebii are like the best places to check the stuff out. Tell your kids about those sites if they ever need some info regarding pokemon.
I'm actually glad it's that way. We had much more fun with battling online with the only mons available in-game in XY - the game was pure in that sense. When the bank opened, every team turned into 6 shiny Arceus with perfect IVs (exagerating here but you get the idea).

So, instead of removing the photo option or banning users who sent the illegal imagery, they made the free app unusuable for everyone owning 3DS.
And it only took them 3 years to release a replacement.
And because Nintendo goes with the times, they put micro(or rather macro)transaction in it.

Re: Gallery: Check Out Pokémon Refresh, New Z-Moves, Pokémon Bank and More For Sun and Moon
Freeze was a devastating status condition, now it's more bearable
Unless... they did nerfed the Freeze formula in gen 7, and I don't know about it? Please tell me they didn't
Re: Noah's Cradle is Taking to the Skies on 3DS Soon
Count me in to that "you had me at "Ace Combat"" comments , too!
Re: Video: This Studio Ghibli-Inspired Zelda Trailer Is Just Too Perfect
Those were very well done backgrounds, really entertaining to look at them. Lots of well placed details and great color compositions on them. There weren't that many animated elements unfortunately, and some of them more felt Flash-like than traditional. Yet, I would like to see more animation in that video, as it reminds me more of a slide show, instead of an animated movie trailer. An impressive slideshow though: the visuals and music complement each other.
Re: Gallery: Check Out Pokémon Refresh, New Z-Moves, Pokémon Bank and More For Sun and Moon
Re: Gallery: Check Out Pokémon Refresh, New Z-Moves, Pokémon Bank and More For Sun and Moon
Re: New Version-Exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon Refresh and More Shown Off for Sun and Moon
@AlexSora89 Seems like the bank is a big issue for you. Sorry to hear that other pokefans won't be enjoying their games as they wanted. Saw the comments on the other topic. I hope you won't get too much spoilers if you decide to wait for the bank.
Re: New Version-Exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon Refresh and More Shown Off for Sun and Moon
@Ed_Fairway Hmm, I think I have messed up, try this: link
Also, I got the text I was talking about (please look at that one at your own risk - possible (?) spoilers and crude language): link. Let me know if they work!
Re: New Version-Exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon Refresh and More Shown Off for Sun and Moon
Re: Pokémon Bank Update for Sun, Moon and Virtual Console Titles Now Due in January 2017
Re: New Version-Exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon Refresh and More Shown Off for Sun and Moon
@Xaldin According the revelant leaks, you may be right. Starters will have different evolution depending on the version you choose. Not all the details matches, but they correctly got various pokemon earlier, including that "rugby monkey". Don't read those leaks tho, if you want to avoid possible spoilers!
Re: New Version-Exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon Refresh and More Shown Off for Sun and Moon
@BLPs First third apart of the Kalos journey was fun and immersive... The rest of the game, I can agree with you. It just feels that the game was rushed and various content was cut.
Re: New Version-Exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon Refresh and More Shown Off for Sun and Moon
That Pikachu throw does look violent though
Re: Pokémon Bank Update for Sun, Moon and Virtual Console Titles Now Due in January 2017
Re: Pokémon Bank Update for Sun, Moon and Virtual Console Titles Now Due in January 2017
Re: Pokémon Bank Update for Sun, Moon and Virtual Console Titles Now Due in January 2017
I'm actually glad it's that way. We had much more fun with battling online with the only mons available in-game in XY - the game was pure in that sense. When the bank opened, every team turned into 6 shiny Arceus with perfect IVs (exagerating here but you get the idea).
