Keep in mind that this is the same company which developed SEGA All-Stars Racing/Transformed. I would say they should stick with the racing and sports genres- they're hot stuff in those departments, even giving Nintendo a run for their money! But this Payday 2 port? Forever more a dark spot in their history... Never again.
A whole year just to create a minimalist ripoff version of a Windows 8/10 feature? I would say that was a colossal waste of those workers' time. Not their fault either, stupid executive decisions are what brought this about...
It's just mind-bogglingly amazing how the Wii's first year apps completely puts the Switch's to absolute shame. Makes me appreciate what came before a lot more!
@MoonKnight7 I'm afraid ol' Sliggy's pessimist depiction is a bright and rosy wonderland compared to how crappy this port actually is. Just read some of the other reviews, they go into more detail on the suicidal enemy AI, broken partner AI, Wii-like visuals with subpar SFX, sluggish controls, erratic aiming in portable mode, lack of control tuning (see Panic Button's DOOM port for how to do it as well as can be done without pointer controls), gruelingly frequent frame rate drops, and absence of D-pad shortcuts to alleviate the lack of native voice chat functions.
Just beyond poor in execution, this port would've been better off cancelled. Now it's going to further fuel arguments and possibly business decisions that porting onto Switch is not necessarily worth the time, money, and effort. This isn't just a bad port, it's an actively destructive port.
@Captain_Gonru Each web browser going from the Wii, 3DS, then Wii U have been instrumental for console modding, and the Switch web browser would have been no different. Nintendo really wants to prevent or slow down Switch modding, so that's a valid reason for cutting off the browser's release. (Though they may not publicly admit it.) Debateable, but understandable at least.
That being the case, Nintendo probably needs to develop another, much broader "Nintendo Zone" sort of service to get through hotspots. Much more difficult to deploy than a web browser, but that would seem to be the only way, given the current plan. More Switches have been sold than 3DS consoles in the corresponding time frame leading up to the Nintendo Zone program's full deployment, so I'm sure they could justify a new and improved successor program.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah, the Wii U didn't do well commercially, yet it continues to be a surprisingly decent multimedia device. It still has the best web browser experience of any console, too! (In fact, I'm using the Wii U right now...)
@Captain_Gonru The point is some people prefer taking the blue pill. Let them live the way they chose. (But seriously, Nintendo is trying to stem the tide of console modding through the NSW browser exploit... by not officially releasing it. Thus, hotspots are a no go.)
@YamAsereht It's obvious because you can't update a service which doesn't currently exist (on NSW). The joke was that modern extra features would typically be expected by now, but Nintendo's multimedia strategy is... unique, in mostly shunning such services on NSW, at least for now...
@Mogster OMG, the mental gymnastics some people come up with for justifying going backwards... I've been wondering if that's unique to certain Nintendo fans, but maybe I just haven't listened around enough. I've heard of "less is more", and believe it's a good philosophy, but the only other people I've heard espousing "more is bad, REALLY bad!" are technophobes and the elderly.
It makes me wonder how many primary console users (of the pro-minimalist, anti-web services Nintendo variety in particular) are not really techie people, they just happen to use tech because they were born into this era...
@Savvykas I hope you're able to defeat whichever cancer you have! Chemo is pretty damn nasty, many would even say worse than the cancer itself... not that there's a whole lot of other options, since the pharmaceutical corps are fighting tooth and nail to keep medical MJ illegal. Some have professed that cannabidiol (CBD) extract with the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) removed from hemp can also work wonders, but that's most effective from the flowers and leaves, while the government and big pharma restricts that... hempseed and stalks aren't nearly as effective. People really need to fight harder for holistic alternatives, the big guys will never cave otherwise.
@burninmylight "I find it amazing that throughout this whole ordeal, you don't think you've done or said a single thing that someone else would find disrespectful. The very first post you left on this page is what started this whole thing. At no point have you ever conceded that you may have misinterpreted anything or that you read it all wrong, or that your choice of words could have been better."
That line of thought is all you had to say. I'm sorry about the outburst, I responded that way because I was fed up with being pummeled by your out of line responses. (And you're STILL looking down on me...) Once again, though, you consciously chose to take what I said and interpreted/responded to it in the absolutely most negative way humanly possible, instead of simply discussing it, expressing disagreement since your stance conflicts with mine, maybe offer an informative rebuttal (without the nasty sarcasm), and just being calm and down to earth. And yet, not even a simple mention of, "well, maybe that was a bit of hyperbole, but yes, I still strongly disagree because such and such." - Which would have been a much more reasonable response.
Looking back on what I wrote up until being fed up, I don't believe I wrote anything incendiary (contrary, yes, but not incendiary); whereas every last one of your replies to me have been either indirectly or straightforwardly incendiary, becoming increasingly snarly with each successive reply. Like they say, life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% about how you react to it. I have work to do on the 90% myself, to be sure, everyone does, yet I cannot help but find it incredibly ironic that you don't seem willing to recognize the low points you ardently express I should avoid within yourself as well. We both screwed up, not just one side or the other.
@Nincompoop Bluetooth signals aren't strong enough to generate a hand tumor growth like that. Same with traditional cell phone signals. Prolonged use of 4G might over the course of many years, but it would be rare. Now 5G on the other hand, that is unproven and can potentially accelerate cancerous growths more quickly than any other consumer grade wireless spectrum by far. The research is certainly out there against it. The Olympics participants and spectators are being used as guinea pigs for potential detrimental effects of 5G right now.
I'm not a doctor, but I'm guessing this is more likely a metastatic growth, given his profession. Ergonomic implementations are usually nonexistent or very sparse by most employers, and they often won't even bother accommodating RSI until it's serious.
Also, making jokes about cancer is bad karma. Don't do it.
@Discostew It seems like the issue is that some amount of sacrifices were already necessary just to keep MH World running at a narrowly acceptable frame rate on the base PS4/XB1 (low-upper 20's FPS at best). How many more sacrifices would need to be made to get MH World running on Switch? My guess is it would be to a degree greater than the DOOM/Skyrim ports by Panic Button, of which may either be unattainable by Capcom's standards, or undesired for the effort necessary. MH5 is likely to fulfill the function of successor to the 3DS entries anyways, so I can see why they wouldn't bother.
Hm... I remember the Power Supplies Catalog back in the day having all kinds of Nintendo themed merchandise... But actually marketing and selling masking tape for relatively cheaply constructed cardboard constructs? The closest thing Nintendo used to offer to this type of product were magazine and player's guide organizers, which used a sort of corrugated "plasticboard" instead of cardboard. A half-dozen pack of those was worth somewhere between $15-20, if I remember correctly. Given their height and width, I would say that provided the buyer with more material than a basic Labo kit will in this case. (Though it still fell apart eventually, because... well, single wall corrugated material bends a little too easily.)
I think it's concerning that a relatively expensive base product would need a reinforcement material to begin with. (Which this fun themed masking tape is meant to perform, while cleverly being sold as mere thematic skin.) Nothing wrong with arts and crafts per se, but this isn't what I would expect from a wealthy multi-billion dollar corporation. I would typically only expect cardboard to be associated with the direct handling and use of electronic products for cheapo $5 junk. I'd rather limit the paper/cardboard to game/system container boxes.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nope, this isn't the print era anymore. The tradition of subtracting from the score for a port on a later console years down the line with no major additions has long since been abolished. You also gotta remember the NL grading scale in conjunction with this- if Nintendo is directly involved, add at least 1 point to the final score. 8+1 = 9.
@Discostew For that part, I think you're correct. I would also expect increased verticality to be present in the environments for the inevitable MH5 on NSW. Same goes for quality of life additions like consumable item use while moving, and improved AI for the monsters. I think the reasoning is more about tasks which require more processing grunt, like no loading periods when transitioning between areas, more detailed textures, higher quality anti-aliasing, many simultaneous animations of high quality models, and further draw distance than previously.
Digital Foundry expounds more on running performance for the stationary consoles:
The base PS4/XB1 are pushed to their limits, and cannot even maintain 30 FPS. They're both stuck in the mid 20's FPS range most of the time at best. Depending on the client's chosen graphics prioritization settings, even the enhanced consoles sink down to the 30-40 FPS range in more populated areas, and can potentially only climb to up to about 46 FPS tops for the PS4Pro and about 56 FPS tops for the XB1X.
On average, performance on the enhanced consoles depends on whether higher fidelity or frame rate is prioritized. When frame rate is prioritized, PS4Pro is in the upper 30's-low 40's FPS on average, and XB1X in the mid 40's FPS on average, although it climbs up to low 50's in town. When higher fidelity is prioritized, they're both often in the lower-mid 30's FPS range. The XB1X version also seems to exhibit smoother frame times than the PS4Pro version.
So yeah... NSW definitely has no chance with MH World.
@moroboshi Exactly, even the base PS4/XB1 struggle with MH World, you basically need the upgraded console versions (or a gaming PC, eventually...) for (relatively) smoother gameplay... sort of. There's no way NSW can handle MH World as is. I expect there will still be a MH5 or whatnot, though, so no biggie.
There you have it, they went with PS4/XB1 (and eventually PC...) due to extra processing power. They're even providing PS4Pro/XB1X support. MH World is just another title where the Tegra X1 is too weak/slow to handle it smoothly. Of course, there will eventually be a MH5 (or whatever they'll call it) geared towards NSW, since it's such a big deal in Japan. They're not going to ignore NSW in that regard, so not all is lost.
@burninmylight "I am glad we can both walk away from this conversation with our heads held high, at least."
Not really, you chose to interpret everything negatively and have been straightforwardly insulting me and looking down on me at every turn. You have been doing exactly what you're accusing me of. I didn't have any negative intent with anything I wrote. So it's honestly been depressing reading what you've been writing. I just chose to not respond by attacking and insulting you in return to your own, and looked at the bright spots instead of focusing on the highly aggressive miasma overflowing from your posts... Which is incredibly difficult, given your responses.
What I'm genuinely glad about as a take away here, is that I have more respect for NEStalgia after this exchange. We disagree on a lot of things, but he is always respectful, humorous, and insightful in his responses. Always. Whereas you have provided me one of the most vile sequence of responses I have ever encountered on Nintendo Life. Just absolutely disrespectful and spiteful. I hope you're not in a customer service oriented job, because you do not know how to treat strangers kindly at all.
@burninmylight It's funny you mentioned that I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, because I feel the same way about your response and then some.
"Mansplaining" even though I'm not assuming genders, and have a tendency to write with a neutral audience in mind... Giving personal examples somehow equaling aggressively forcing one's will upon another, instead of just being a simple statement of "here's what I would do/feel about such and such situation"... Mixing a specific thought about Pokemon moderation with an earlier generic statement/idea across a broad spectrum of competitive titles... Going completely overboard and taking simple statements and ideas that weren't intended to be all-encompassing or inflammatory as vicious personal attacks...
Makes my head spin. I guess your avatar is surprisingly accurate, it feels to me like we're two different species from two different galaxies trying with futile efforts to communicate using a broken interstellar version of Google Translate.
"Enemies, Enemies! Enemies in our midst! Eliminate!"
I don't see you as one... Don't know why you see me as one...
Well, I enjoyed the conversation all the same! Even if it's not a good turnout, once again, I choose to determine my own happiness, regardless of the behavior of others.
No surprise, the big brick and mortar stores like Gamestop started mercilessly forcing the independent shops out of business years ago, making it nearly impossible to survive except for some exceptional cases. (Such as Extreme Gamez.) The only independent shops left involve used wares only, no new products. So it's extremely difficult to survive without a real online presence at this point. Hopefully those executives at Gamestop get their comeuppance someday.
@Boponpa Nah, Tegra X1 is too weak/slow to handle the FF7 Remake. There's about as much chance for FF7R to make an appearance on Switch as there was for Snake to appear in MGS4 onwards on any Nintendo console... Which is to say, nada.
Kingdom Hearts 3 ain't happening on Switch. Mainly because it's never happening at this rate, but I digress...
I mainly only see Dragon Quest mainline getting supported on Switch. For FF, just spinoffs, no mainline. Tegra X1 is too slow/weak for mainline. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that way for KH3, despite their interest in porting it. Not an insignificant task... Maybe it would happen by 2021? Nah, that's being generous, 2022 at the earliest.
A TWEWY sequel would be nice, and Nomura/Kando have stated they are interested in making a sequel. The World Begins With You. Certainly possible!
I would love for FF6 to get the fully fledged remake treatment, I think it's just a better package overall than FF7. At this rate, though, I doubt it'll happen.
Drops down during occasional lag spikes, typically outside major combat, 51 FPS @ 1% low, 67 average FPS @ 1080p on high settings. All of this while using a new $100 AMD APU (CPU/iGPU combo), the low end model, no discrete GPU... I underestimated it's performance. This is why Switch badly needs a hardware upgrade by holiday season of 2020. Tegra X1 can't even compete with a low budget $100 APU anymore. Otherwise, Switch is going to lose out on a lot more than just Overwatch.
@burninmylight School councilor abetting bullies, therapist indifferent to sexism... whoo, those are some nutty analogies, lol... Not everyone is going to be nice to you in a (super)competitive game. I say report and move on, if it's genuinely egregious. Enough people report on a legit problem, punishment is meted out. Or if they can't be easily avoided, I would see it as an interesting challenge to overcome (or fail). My day isn't going to be affected (much less ruined) if someone isn't nice to me in an environment where I wouldn't necessarily expect others to be nice in the first place. As for the WAY out from left field analogies... I'll just say that a completely different set of social dynamics is going on there compared to a school or professional environment.
If you play with random strangers online in Monster Hunter, they're most likely going to want others to use the most effective means of winning. Which isn't always the most fun, but hey, the meta is the meta. I would take it upon myself to present a good reason to go with a different weapon or tactic than requested- if I can't come up with one, then I would heed their request to go with the more efficient weapon and tactic. I would ridicule myself for dying or not acting quickly enough, so I wouldn't blame others for ridiculing me either. And in any case where sleep bomb/shot is counterproductive (just about any kill objective)... I don't blame them for being annoyed. Breaks the rhythm.
The competitive Pokemon scene doesn't exactly have the height of moderation, and it's only frequented by the most involved of the involved, not to mention Nintendo isn't moderating except against some cheating. And ~12k users out of... how many millions of people invested in every generation? That's a tiny fraction of 1%... Talk about niche. It's no wonder, Game Freak/TPC is stuck in a strange limbo between implementing the single player and multiplayer elements. The Pokemon X reader review by super_luigi16 on GameFAQ's sums up this issue with the series perfectly.
Well, you said you're not interested in the drive to keep up with a certain level of competency in (super)competitive environments... So the lens you perceive them through is inherently different than one who enjoys engaging in that drive. I was just saying that accepting defeat and learning from it is a part of that drive. Simple as that. That's just one piece of the equation, not the laser focus.
@burninmylight First and foremost, your enjoyment depends on you. No matter what. Community is always a secondary factor to enjoyment. If one allows social experiences with random strangers through the game to affect one negatively, that's on you. From my perspective, the only time someone else with poor behavior would really affect me is if some level of trust had been built over time, which was then broken. Not much to be broken from complete strangers.
Monster Hunter is different from purely competitive multiplayer titles, it's primarily cooperative rather than competitive. It also traditionally relies on a smaller group, so it takes some creativity and extra skill (or just joining a different room/area) to deal with counter operatives. Pokémon is also different, the series is designed to focus on their single player aspects first and foremost, while the multiplayer (besides trading, to get Mons not available in one version) is more of an afterthought.
So you say you don't like competitive pressure? There you have it, you don't have more than a casual interest in the competitive (or rather, super competitive, when it comes to Overwatch and the like) multiplayer type of game/mode, losing when outmatched, improving, taking some hits, etc etc. Which is fine, it's definitely not for everyone. However, the lens you perceive a (super)competitive multiplayer title through is inherently different from one who enjoys competitive pressure.
@NEStalgia That's a perception issue. As far as I'm concerned, when I play an online competitive multiplayer match, others provide ME with fun. I determine my own enjoyment, I don't depend on others for that. Likewise, the enjoyment of others is up to them. If I don't get a certain character, oh well, there's plenty others. If I don't get a certain item, it's on me to improve. If one wants to always have a certain main, join a premade group. I've never had a problem with any of that before in any game.
I usually play such games with friends IRL, communicating through Discord. One of my longtime friends going back over 13 years is indeed a dominant personality, however, I trust their judgement in competitive multiplayer, and I'm still going to act independently when needed. The only real issue is they're more skilled than me, so it's usually tough going for me since we're paired with tough opponents. But I still enjoy myself regardless.
If someone is having an issue interacting with people they know IRL in a competitive environment, just because of an online chat program, then that's not necessarily a problem with a game or program. It's more likely they have a social or trust issue- not necessarily a problem, but an issue to be sure. I'm more quiet in groups larger than about 3 or 4, but I'm comfortable with that.
I find it fascinating that people would adamantly say their reason for not playing multiplayer games with voice chat is due to bad behavior by randoms. Okay, how about with people you actually know, or people who you meet in small established groups before playing? In truth, the real reason people here don't like them is either because the type of game isn't interesting to them, or because they don't know anyone to play with. Blaming your own inability to enjoy a game purely because of random teammates you will never meet, and can avoid if desired, is self defeating. It's not a good reason to reject a game.
That said, this is a really nice story! I can relate to the way Yasuda feels; about 9 years ago, I realized that game design was not a path I wanted to take after learning a bit about how the industry actually works. It was a bit of a shock, I had grown up thinking that was what I wanted to do with my life. So I'm glad he found something and somewhere to derive a bright spot from!
But uh... Yeah, Overwatch probably ain't coming to Switch. 30 FPS and always online on a portable console isn't going to cut it for normal Overwatch play. Overwatch isn't difficult to run, it's just that the Tegra X1 is too slow. Even a Core 2 Quad paired with a GT 1030 can at least reach 45 FPS. And AMD released a $170 CPU/APU yesterday which doesn't need a discrete GPU to beat that; along with a $100 one which is still slightly better, relatively on par, also no discrete GPU needed. Both with better compute than a C2Q, obviously.
Overwatch is incredibly well optimized, but NS just wouldn't make for a good Overwatch experience. Not everything makes sense on Nintendo's console, no matter how much we want it to.
@ekwcll Almost no one pays that much for a phone up front. Most people won't spend more than $400-something on a phone, and most people buy an Android instead of an overpriced Apple product. Only richie riches and brainwashed Apple fans buy status symbols like iPhone X, that are priced at over 3 times what it costs to actually manufacture them.
If that actually happened in the USA, Nintendo would get $97.8 BILLION dollars. That's up there with frickin' Amazon. Obviously, this won't happen. But it should be said anyways that bad things happen when monopolies or lopsided markets of any kind exist. Prevention of competition is the true enemy of technological progress.
@Anti-Matter OMG that walking animation of faker Mario being all buff with the tank top and sweatpants....... lol I do kind of like the idea of Mario being a kung-fu disciple in a spinoff title... hasn't been done before officially.
@ShadJV What do you mean, I beat both Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine back in the day as an 8 year old after a single rental from Blockbuster each, before the rollout of the Internet. (But then again, I think I was perhaps a better gamer back then compared to now...)
I think Mario Teaches Typing 2, Mario Is Missing, and Mario's Time Machine weren't bad for the time period. Obviously we have higher standards today, but their form of "edutainment" was challenging enough for a complete beginner to such topics. MTT2 in particular was miles better than other typist learning software during the 90's, and even later ones used at summer camp computers, such as a REALLY crappy basketball-based one... MTT2 is underrated, IMO.
And who could forget the stupidly silly yet amusing 3D Mario head, before Super Mario 64 existed? Voiced by Charles Martinet himself, even!
And ranking JP SMB2/Lost Levels at #1 isn't because the game is bad, it's because you're a scrub Alex. They put in the 99 lives trick in the 1st level for a reason. Only hardcore players were meant to challenge Lost Levels without save points or the 99 lives trick. Besides, if you die 99 times + however many more 1-ups you get... then honestly, you deserve a Game Over.
Only if there are upgrade SKU's based on Pascal and eventually Volta. Maxwell certainly isn't going to last another 5 years, with another big jump in performance requirements on the way in about 2-3 years time... Actually next year for PC, but the leap elsewhere will be another year or two to take effect.
Even just today, the $170 Ryzen 5 2400G CPU released with built-in Vega 11 iGPU that completely trounces the Tegra X1 in raw performance. Meanwhile, the $100 Ryzen 3 2200G released with built-in Vega 8 iGPU that has slightly better graphical performance than a Tegra X1, and better compute too. So NVIDIA will be forced to respond to AMD and make their mobile parts more affordable if they want to compete. Even Intel is using AMD's Vega iGPU's now in some of their upcoming CPU's- they both want to break NVIDIA's near monopoly on the GPU market.
Switch is looking healthy in the software department for now, but Nintendo must plan ahead for this if they don't want another GameCube situation on their hands, where support suddenly drops off a cliff after 4 years.
@YummyHappyPills @JohnnyVanda That's the thing, the Dev is not explaining their situation effectively: UE3 doesn't and can't run well on any Nintendo console. It also explains why Hat in Time has optimization problems elsewhere, too bad they didn't bring it over to UE4.
Instead of chiding the devs on Hat in Time not coming to Switch, I think people should have instead been asking themselves why they would ever back a project based on UE3. Dev response has been unprofessional, but people need to take some responsibility for themselves, and understand potential downfalls before backing something. People need to do their own research.
"NO PLANS for additional releases until we make any kind of official announcement." is different from definitely not being made at all. So which is it? Is this another case of Dom jumping the gun, or is there a definitive statement beyond a social media blurb?
Edit: Okay, looks like Dom has it right with this not releasing for Switch. The developer also made this tweet:
— A HAT IN TIME | Gears for Breakfast (@HatInTime) February 5, 2018
So there you go. They've stated they're not under any obligation to "do anything" (in other words, make it happen on Switch), for those who were originally interested in a possible Wii U version. (Which wasn't going to happen because Unreal Engine 3 sucks. No wonder Hat in Time is unoptimized.)
I understand the basic sentiment, they can make it for whatever platform they want (especially since they have NS devkits), but it's a rather unprofessional way to respond to those who were let down. Just keep hammering it in to people that UE3 doesn't play well on Wii U or Switch, that's it. Vote with your dollar on any of their products from now on based on how you feel about how they responded, yada yada.
@roadrunner343 Nintendo made a regular deck of cards with a Mario Party theme back in the day during 1999. (Which for some reason I cannot find on internet searches or eBay, like they've been wiped from existence somehow...) My guess is whoever was responsible for this Zelda deck got stuck in a temporal time warp caused by Lavos in another dimension, only just recently returned to us on our current dimensional chronology, had a massive reunion with their whole family and Nintendo HQ, and finally got to finish that blasted Zelda Uno cards project they were tragically never able to finish.
@HauntingNostrils I think there are certain notable exceptions. For example, what are we to do now that Sega has definitely lost the source code for Panzer Dragoon Saga? The real (yet digital) McCoy may well be gone forever, lost to history, a mere temporary footnote. The only way that most people can ever experience PDS is through emulation.
If shared public archival and experience by emulation is outlawed and punished absolutely, then when all of the remaining physical copies of PDS are inevitably either destroyed (intentionally or accidentally), or data decomposition eventually sets in at some point depending on environmental factors (e.g. http://www.cd-info.com/CDIC/Technology/CD-R/Media/Kodak.html ), no one will ever again be able to access PDS. It will have died a true death, remaining only as fragments of a memory in the annals of the internet... until those fragments are eventually also lost at some point.
This may seem a moot point to us, because... Why worry about a concept which has consequences ranging far into the future after our own lifetimes? What concern is that of ours? Well, in that case... why bother creating and maintaining museums? Why bother preserving anything at all for future generations?
Because it's worth it. Hopefully, doing the right thing should be a lawful act. But sometimes, as it turns out, doing the right thing does not always necessarily follow the law. Laws are created primarily for the benefit of those who create them, not for those who follow them. So I hope that at least some exceptions can be made for cases where emulation is the only remaining alternative to losing a good creative work forever.

Keep in mind that this is the same company which developed SEGA All-Stars Racing/Transformed. @MoonKnight7 I'm afraid ol' Sliggy's pessimist depiction is a bright and rosy wonderland compared to how crappy this port actually is. More Switches have been sold than 3DS consoles in the corresponding time frame leading up to the Nintendo Zone program's full deployment, so I'm sure they could justify a new and improved successor program.
Re: Netflix Gets An Update, But Not On The Console You Were Perhaps Expecting
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah, the Wii U didn't do well commercially, yet it continues to be a surprisingly decent multimedia device. It still has the best web browser experience of any console, too! (In fact, I'm using the Wii U right now...)
Re: Netflix Gets An Update, But Not On The Console You Were Perhaps Expecting
@Captain_Gonru The point is some people prefer taking the blue pill. Let them live the way they chose. (But seriously, Nintendo is trying to stem the tide of console modding through the NSW browser exploit... by not officially releasing it. Thus, hotspots are a no go.)
Re: Netflix Gets An Update, But Not On The Console You Were Perhaps Expecting
@YamAsereht It's obvious because you can't update a service which doesn't currently exist (on NSW). The joke was that modern extra features would typically be expected by now, but Nintendo's multimedia strategy is... unique, in mostly shunning such services on NSW, at least for now...
Re: Netflix Gets An Update, But Not On The Console You Were Perhaps Expecting

Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
So I'll leave it at that.

Re: Weirdness: Switch's HD Rumble Helps Australian Man Discover Tumour In His Hand

Re: Look, Capcom Knows You Really Want Monster Hunter World On Switch

Re: This Nintendo-themed Masking Tape Will Keep Your Labo Stuck On-Brand
Re: Review: Bayonetta 2 (Switch)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nope, this isn't the print era anymore. The tradition of subtracting from the score for a port on a later console years down the line with no major additions has long since been abolished. You also gotta remember the NL grading scale in conjunction with this- if Nintendo is directly involved, add at least 1 point to the final score. 8+1 = 9.
Re: Look, Capcom Knows You Really Want Monster Hunter World On Switch
@Discostew For that part, I think you're correct. I would also expect increased verticality to be present in the environments for the inevitable MH5 on NSW. Same goes for quality of life additions like consumable item use while moving, and improved AI for the monsters. I think the reasoning is more about tasks which require more processing grunt, like no loading periods when transitioning between areas, more detailed textures, higher quality anti-aliasing, many simultaneous animations of high quality models, and further draw distance than previously.
Digital Foundry expounds more on running performance for the stationary consoles:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDPjcJ50MX0
Re: Look, Capcom Knows You Really Want Monster Hunter World On Switch
@moroboshi Exactly, even the base PS4/XB1 struggle with MH World, you basically need the upgraded console versions (or a gaming PC, eventually...) for (relatively) smoother gameplay... sort of. There's no way NSW can handle MH World as is. I expect there will still be a MH5 or whatnot, though, so no biggie.
Re: Look, Capcom Knows You Really Want Monster Hunter World On Switch
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-monster-hunter-world-leaves-behind-handhelds-f/1100-6450997/
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Eliminate!"

Well, I enjoyed the conversation all the same! Even if it's not a good turnout, once again, I choose to determine my own happiness, regardless of the behavior of others.
Re: Rare's Local Video Game Store Is Closing Its Doors After 24 Years
No surprise, the big brick and mortar stores like Gamestop started mercilessly forcing the independent shops out of business years ago, making it nearly impossible to survive except for some exceptional cases. (Such as Extreme Gamez.) The only independent shops left involve used wares only, no new products. So it's extremely difficult to survive without a real online presence at this point. Hopefully those executives at Gamestop get their comeuppance someday.
Re: Lots Of Developers At Square Enix Want To Make Games For Switch, Says President And CEO
@Joeynator3000 You may be the most sane person here.
Re: Lots Of Developers At Square Enix Want To Make Games For Switch, Says President And CEO
@Boponpa Nah, Tegra X1 is too weak/slow to handle the FF7 Remake. There's about as much chance for FF7R to make an appearance on Switch as there was for Snake to appear in MGS4 onwards on any Nintendo console... Which is to say, nada.
Re: Lots Of Developers At Square Enix Want To Make Games For Switch, Says President And CEO
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Also, since it's somewhat relevant:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1hPqKRMoBY
Drops down during occasional lag spikes, typically outside major combat, 51 FPS @ 1% low, 67 average FPS @ 1080p on high settings. All of this while using a new $100 AMD APU (CPU/iGPU combo), the low end model, no discrete GPU... I underestimated it's performance. This is why Switch badly needs a hardware upgrade by holiday season of 2020. Tegra X1 can't even compete with a low budget $100 APU anymore. Otherwise, Switch is going to lose out on a lot more than just Overwatch.
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Re: Video: How Overwatch Helped A Street Fighter Legend Overcome His Hatred Of Video Games
Re: Nintendo's Ultimate Ambition Is For Switch "To Be Owned By Every Single Person"
Re: Nintendo's Ultimate Ambition Is For Switch "To Be Owned By Every Single Person"
Re: Video: 9 Mario Games We Wish had Never Existed
@Anti-Matter OMG that walking animation of faker Mario being all buff with the tank top and sweatpants....... lol I do kind of like the idea of Mario being a kung-fu disciple in a spinoff title... hasn't been done before officially.
Re: Video: 9 Mario Games We Wish had Never Existed
@ShadJV What do you mean, I beat both Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine back in the day as an 8 year old after a single rental from Blockbuster each, before the rollout of the Internet. (But then again, I think I was perhaps a better gamer back then compared to now...)
Re: Video: 9 Mario Games We Wish had Never Existed
I think Mario Teaches Typing 2, Mario Is Missing, and Mario's Time Machine weren't bad for the time period. Obviously we have higher standards today, but their form of "edutainment" was challenging enough for a complete beginner to such topics. MTT2 in particular was miles better than other typist learning software during the 90's, and even later ones used at summer camp computers, such as a REALLY crappy basketball-based one... MTT2 is underrated, IMO.
And who could forget the stupidly silly yet amusing 3D Mario head, before Super Mario 64 existed? Voiced by Charles Martinet himself, even!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tQWLg4E90M
And ranking JP SMB2/Lost Levels at #1 isn't because the game is bad, it's because you're a scrub Alex. They put in the 99 lives trick in the 1st level for a reason. Only hardcore players were meant to challenge Lost Levels without save points or the 99 lives trick. Besides, if you die 99 times + however many more 1-ups you get... then honestly, you deserve a Game Over.
Re: Nintendo Believes That The Switch Could Sell Beyond The Usual 5-6 Year Console Life Cycle
Re: A Hat In Time Developer Confirms The Time Travel Platformer Won't Leap Onto Switch
Re: A Hat In Time Developer Confirms The Time Travel Platformer Won't Leap Onto Switch
👏 we 👏can 👏love 👏whatever 👏we 👏want 👏and 👏not 👏be 👏under 👏any 👏obligation 👏to 👏do 👏anything 👏
Re: An Official Legend of Zelda Uno Set Is Coming To North America This Week
@roadrunner343 Nintendo made a regular deck of cards with a Mario Party theme back in the day during 1999. (Which for some reason I cannot find on internet searches or eBay, like they've been wiped from existence somehow...) My guess is whoever was responsible for this Zelda deck got stuck in a temporal time warp caused by Lavos in another dimension, only just recently returned to us on our current dimensional chronology, had a massive reunion with their whole family and Nintendo HQ, and finally got to finish that blasted Zelda Uno cards project they were tragically never able to finish.
Re: An Official Legend of Zelda Uno Set Is Coming To North America This Week
...Why weren't these around in the 90's? They kind of missed out on Uno's heyday amongst youth.
Re: Hackers Get Linux Running On Switch And Claim Nintendo Can't Patch The Exploit
