Banjo Kazooie was always one of my favourite N64 games, and in all honesty I probably prefer it to any of the Mario 3D platformers, yet I've never the sequel. Really should get round to it, but I worry without the benefit of nostalgia the experience will fall a little flat
Anyone else have an order with Amazon that says it'll deliver on the 7th? I've also got an order in with Argos that's meant to be release date but would rather the Amazon one as that's the Mario Kart bundle. I don't need 2 so will cancel one but at the moment not sure if I should cancel Argos and hope Amazon end up delivering on release date, or just wait a couple more days, or stay with Argos and pay the extra £20 for Mario Kart. It's for my son who's still on half term this week so really want it asap!
I replayed Eternal Darkness recently, and it definitely is a lot jankier and cumbersome than I remember. However, the atmosphere and storytelling is still superb, which is why it is so memorable to me
@Riff-the-Don I love Eternal Darkness, it baffles me why it doesn't get more love. I won't lie, the idea of playing it again on handheld was not an inconsiderate factor that pushed me into buy a Steam Deck!
Ocarina of Time for me, as I was a Sega guy before the N64. If pushed, I reckon I would still say it's my favourite game of all time, and I still dig it out for a playthrough every couple of years.
Soon afterwards, I asked for Link's Awakening for my birthday, and I remember distinctly finding it hidden on top of the kitchen cupboards a month before my birthday. Being the cheeky young so and so I was, I took it down and played it for a couple of hours a number of times over the next month. By the time my birthday came around, while we were on a family holiday to Mallorca, I had already completed it. Didn't stop me from spending the rest of holiday avoiding the sun at all costs (curse the Gameboy's lack of backlight!) so I could play through it all over again! Good times
The only thing that shocks me about this is it didn't happen within a month of the PS5 being released. I assume that would have been the case were they more readily available
Got Deathloop on PS5, Guardians for XSX and Metroid Dread for Switch. Only managed 20 minutes on Guardians so far, but hope to make a start on Deathloop on Sunday.
That said I've also got my hands on an N64 controller and really wouldn't mind yet another playthrough Ocarina, probably for the first time for a good 20 years with an N64 controller
A tasty proposition to be sure, but as others have said I feel without some fairly substantial overhauling of the controls this will only really have value as a nostalgic curio, as it is close to unpayable nowadays
Sniffy comments aside, this really does look quite impressive for little ones, reminds me bizarrely enough of the South Park games with how much it looks like the actual show. That said, speaking for my own kids I wonder how big the market would actually be, as by the time kids are old enough to work a controller effectively are they too old for Peppa Pig?
For me it isn't so much about length as pacing. There are dozens of 40+ hour games that do not know how to pace themselves. I was enraptured by the likes of BOTW, TLOU2 enough to see them through to the end, because they had good pacing, BOTW through engaging exploration and TLOU2 through emerging narrative. Recent sprawling Ubisoft slogs, for example, just cannot pace themselves adequately, for me anyway
The price difference being £17 a year in UK doesn't seem as bad as $30 in US to me for reason. It's definitely more than I would have thought, but then I've also just gone ahead and ordered an N64 pad so I guess I'm going for it. My early gaming years consisted of Mega Drive followed by N64, and Sonic 2, OoT, MM and Banjo and 4 of my favourite games of all time so I couldn't really say no...
We were a Sega household, with the Master System and then Mega Drive, so I think it was the N64, which I got with Goldeneye and Mario Kart one Christmas so I guess one of them would be the first Nintendo game I played (I think it would have been Mario Kart). I definitely remember owning a SNES at one point, but I feel that was after already getting the N64.
OoT was my moment of no return - I had to continue getting Nintendo systems from that point on (with the exception of the Wii U, but had a Zelda released exclusively for that I would have got one)
@ChromaticDracula completely agree - the on rails bits are fun enough but the free roaming dogfights with Star-Wolf and his crew were the best parts of Lylat Wars (or Star Fox 64), so intense and a great change of pace
Live & Kicking had a competition, they picked a post card out of a tombola to win an N64. Mine was pink, and I'm sure I saw Zoe Ball grab mine, drop it and grab another one. So I had to wait until Xmas, and I haven't forgiven her to this day
Weighing everything up, I think would still say it's the best console I ever owned. Oot, Banjo and Goldeneye are part of my gaming DNA, to say nothing of Mario 64 (awesome, although I preferred Banjo), MM, Mario Kart, Turok, 1080, F-Zero, Mario Party, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, Perfect Dark... Christ, I think I'm going to have to boot up Rare Replay on the XBox tonight...
It's Sonic 2 for me, I still have hazy memories of me and my big brother getting a Mega Drive from Toys R Us and diving into it. However, I also have a special place in my heart for Sonic on the Master System - far more challenging, if I remember correctly
Mass Effect on XSX, Returnal on PS5, and likely nothing on the Switch. I'm sad to say that I haven't really touched it for almost a year now. I'd sell it but my son loves the occasional go on Mario, plus I know I'll want BOTW2 and Metroid, whenever they release...

Re: Poll: Will You Play Resident Evil Requiem In First-Person Or Third-Person?
I generally prefer third person. However, I heard that Capcom have said that first person is the intended experience, so that's what I'll be going for
Re: Nightdive's CEO Reiterates Desire To Remaster 'Eternal Darkness'
Yes yes yes please, one of my favourite games, would love an excuse to replay
Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch 2 Size Comparison - Here's How It Compares To (Nearly) Every Handheld Known To Humankind
Christ, I don't think I've ever seen a comparison of a Game Gear micro. That things screen must genuinely be no larger than a stamp!

Re: Square Enix Details Plan To 'Reboot And Awaken' Its Business
Wonder if they've sat up and noticed that Expedition 33 just knocked them out of the park
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Developer Seems Open To A Switch 2 Port
@TheExile285 it plays just fine on the Steam Deck, so I'm sure a bespoke version properly optimised for Switch 2 would run just fine
Re: Check Out The Switch 2 Partner Spotlight Sizzle Reel Trailer For Rapid-Fire Good Times
So I guess that's why Nobunaga's Ambition suddenly showed up on Switch Online
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Nervous To Replay In Case They Don't Hold Up?
It has to be said, even with improved controls on XBox, Goldeneye really doesn't hold up (single player at least). Which is such a shame

I replayed Eternal Darkness recently, and it definitely is a lot jankier and cumbersome than I remember. However, the atmosphere and storytelling is still superb, which is why it is so memorable to me
Re: Random: Golden Wii Intended For Queen Elizabeth II Will Be Shown At Gamescom
@BLAZINOAH I hear he often asks Kate to use her Wii with him too
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Gets Creative With Vehicle Building, Fused Weapons
That's great and all, but all I really want are proper dungeons! BOTW felt a little underwhelming without them for me. Really hope they're in there

Re: Talking Point: Which Scary Video Game Moments Gave You Nightmares As A Kid?
@Riff-the-Don Eternal Darkness bath was the first thing that came to my mind too
Re: Rumour: The Mario Movie's True Title Probably Won't Shock Anyone
Dammit. I had my money on "On the buses: Varney's Last Stand"

Re: Random: The World's First Gamer Nut Butter Is Made For Gamers To Eat While Gaming
It reminds me of when GAME did a Xmas dinner on a can for gamers. I can't help but get the impression that many think gamers are just subhuman scum.

Re: Random: Check Out These Mock-Ups Of GameCube For Nintendo Switch Online
This mock up has a disturbing lack of Eternal Darkness. Therefore, it is a failure
Seriously, all I want to do is play Eternal Darkness again, whether it is on Switch, PS5 is XBox, just please somebody do a damn port!
