@ravens326 Nobody uses game-breaking glitches to speedrun games and takes that as the experience the developers intended. It's fine if you're not interested in the concept, but it's important to bear in mind that speedrunners aren't paying £50/$60 for every game to try and beat it in two minutes. Nobody's saying a speedrun is the principle purpose of a game.
@Nomad I think so! Nintendo has a great way of reinventing their franchises through every iteration; think about the differences between Mario Bros., Mario 2, Mario 3, Mario World and then Mario 64. Think about the difference between Zelda, Zelda 2, A Link to the Past and then Ocarina. Plus how different Majora's Mask was. Maybe I'm talking more about art style or that it seems as though they've merely basically remade Star Fox 64, but it's just nothing we haven't already seen before. Sometimes that's fine, but Nintendo are known for their innovation, so we come to expect more from them.
@TobiasAmaranth Your wish for Nintendo to focus more on story than gameplay for Star Fox is so backwards. It IS, by definition, an arcade shooter, and manages to have a great story without laying it on too thick. This goes for any game - Gameplay. Comes. First.
It's interesting to me that we're imagining this live footage Guitar Hero being more repetitive than its animated past iterations. When all's said and done, you're not paying attention to what's going on in the background, and it's not gonna hinder the gameplay.
I can tell you this is absolutely true - hopping from side to side during drift boosts is something I always do. In 200cc this actually slows you down. I noticed it right away.
@Einherjar The impression I get is actually more clever than it seems - if you're only interested in playing solo, you only pay for the campaign, making the game half as expensive. Giving this option to 3DS owners seems clever to me considering it's not generally a massive multiplayer system
This belongs on Wii U. I've been hearing bits and bats about this project over the past few years and it seems like now they have the means to actually get things started. I'd even love this on New 3DS, but it belongs with Nintendo.
This is confusing - my New Nintendo 3DS XL bundle comes with a figure anyway, does that mean I'll be eligible for another upon registration? I'm already expecting two since I have two systems on pre-order, am I gonna end up with three of these things?! (Not that I'm complaining.)
Also, for those Ambassadors worrying they didn't get an email - I don't think that will matter. Register the game with Club Nintendo before February 28th and you'll get a figure. I think it looks like you get one even without registering the game if you pre-order it from the Nintendo UK online store or buy it from there before the 28th. There won't be any other prerequisite.
@LinkSword If you're a 3DS owner I'd definitely recommend picking up Starfox 64 3D, it's really good fun if a little short and you can pick it up super cheap. I paid £12 almost a year ago for a used copy.
@BensonUii I think a single account cross-platform system is something we're all hoping for in conjunction with the roll-out of a new rewards system. However, I'm not certain Nintendo have finalised what this reward system will be yet, so who knows. It is something that everybody wants. Who wants to pay twice for Virtual Console games for both systems? Who wants to buy Shovel Knight twice? It's something they must be addressing in the near future.
Considering there were was a lack of huge games for 3DS last year and New 3DS is launching, it doesn't surprise me that sales have lowered. However, WITH New 3DS launching with Majora's Mask and Monster Hunter, exclusive Xenoblade and all its improved features I reckon Nintendo don't have much to worry about on the handheld front. If the stream of new titles is as steady as it should be (MM, MH, new Fire Emblem, Codename Steam, Xenoblade) this year then I guess sales for the new system will improve on its older counterpart's.
I got the email and went right to the Nintendo store to pre-order it. TOTALLY bummed that it doesn't release till March 31st because I'm already in agony waiting for New 3DS and I really want to play Majora's Mask at launch. I might keep my original 3DS pre-order with Majora's Mask special edition and hope a friend will buy it from me when the new limited edition comes out.
@BensonUii I've always been a physical man, but coming up on a year after I bought my 3DS it's occurring to me more and more that I'd rather be able to tap a game's icon to load it than swap carts and have to have my carry case to hand all the time. I kept all the boxes because they're nice to have on a shelf and should I ever want to trade in it's an option, but it's not as swift as loading games right from the Home screen. Buying physical games from Amazon, however, usually always proves cheaper than downloading a title, so there's that. Pros and cons.
@Moon I believe there's an inherent charm in Nintendo franchises, characters and stories that speak to its players and stick with them. Plus the fact that their gameplay is reliable - they spend a lot of time on only a few ideas so that the end result is always polished and satisfying. Mario and Zelda were there at the very beginning and there's so much to discover throughout all the games. In the PS1 era I would have said the same about Sony - Crash and Spyro were awesome, consistent games, but nowadays Nintendo is the only nostalgic, charming member of the big three.
@Hero-of-WiiU I was a little put off by the dubs as well. I loved the overall product so maybe didn't matter so much but there was something off about them. Lots of people seem to share this opinion, too. Ulitmately it's the gameplay footage we're shown that matters, admittedly.
@Wouwter I think it makes sense for Nintendo to make sure all their viable franchises have seen a Wii U release before working on too many new IPs. Zelda is obviously a huge seller, as Star Fox will also be. The Wii U's library wouldn't be complete without these games, but we all know that without third party support, some new franchises are missing from the lineup. Hopefully once games like Zelda and Star Fox are out, there'll be more time for Nintendo to devote to new ideas. At E3 we saw Miyamoto was working on Project Giant Robot and whatever that stealth game was (I've forgotten its moniker) so new things could be in the works.
This whole video literally made me grin from ear to ear. I love Nintendo because its games, franchises and characters have accidentally been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I like video games as a whole, but my adoration for Nintendo isn't really a part of that. Seeing new footage of Zelda and listening to Aonuma and Miyamoto riff about their new games just made me so happy. The time for Wii U really is now!
Also, going into a little bit of detail, the change in Epona's mechanics immediately draws parallels with Wind Waker HD - we know this is going to be a giant world because Epona evading trees and other obstacles means you're free to use the Gamepad features, just as we were allowed to do in Wind Waker HD. This means that riding Epona is now more like sailing on the King of Red Lions, meaning the world really is going to be huge. This poses a few questions to me - sailing in Wind Waker was never really boring, but it has to be said that there wasn't much to do between islands. Other than combat (if you ever bothered with it) and collecting rupees, the expanses between locations were just made up of water. Given that this new Hyrule (assuming this is Hyrule) is set on dry land, will there be more to do in between locations, or will the map just me made up of vast, empty fields, woodland and hills with nothing to do? A huge world is exciting, but if the only thing making it bigger is empty space between towns and dungeons, it's a little bit pointless. Having said that, riding Epona over Hyrule Field from place to place in Twilight Princess was usually really fun and it looks like riding through HD Hyrule is going to be beautiful and that in itself would be really entertaining. Conversely, however, the world in A Link to the Past generally feels quite large because most screens have secrets and things to do.
@Shinnos This is exactly what I predicted would happen. At this point you're probably grounded in your decision to hold off on buying the game. Nintendo will lose sales if they don't fix this really quickly.
I posted a comment on an article about Smash a few weeks ago stating my concern that Sakurai's team were still working on the game so close to release. I hope it's not that there wasn't time for this issue to be caught in playtesting and it's been a massive oversight by the team, though I doubt it's an inherent unavoidable mistake. In my opinion this is probably the absolute worst thing the release of a game can do to its players, especially something as prolific and exciting as Smash. Knowing that playing the game can not only wipe your system memory but completely brick your system (already awful) is just horrendous. I'm deeply disheartened to read this news this morning and I hope they can find a fix incredibly soon.
Also to those saying "I'm fine because I only play 'for fun'" or "I don't play online anyway ", you people are a minority. This is a huge issue for the game and for Nintendo, and spare a thought for those sending bricked systems to Nintendo so close to Christmas. And also don't forget to read information like this properly - it does state that this is also happening to players randomly.
@kyuubikid213 It really is the software that makes a console, and you're absolutely right. It seems like as long as you have a 360 or a PS3, you're getting more or less everything if Wii U is your choice right now.
@KillScottKill The reality is that since the Wii U's release, Nintendo have steadily been releasing excellent first party games as well as the odd titles from second and third party developers. Since the Wii U is so affordable, it's been more than satisfactory to keep playing the AAA third party titles on last generation's PS3 and Xbox 360 while having access to Nintendo software too. Since Microsoft and Sony stil haven't dropped support for 360 and PS3, the Wii U's is becoming a worthy, special library and those who own next-gen systems seem largely dissatisfied with the console exclusives (and lack thereof), Nintendo really are in a fantastic position.
By the way, I'm amazed that you didn't think MK8 is amazing, what didn't you like about it? I'm legitimately interested to hear a rare negative opinion about the game.
I've said on many forums when talking about both Ocarina and Majora's Mask 3D that Ocarina's touch screen interface and controls were horrible and I hope they'd improve on them for Majora's Mask, citing A Link Between Worlds as an example. I'm soooo pleased Aonuma's team have taken the initiative in that area, it'll already be an improvement on Ocarina 3D. Super exciting news.
I just got Smash 3DS literally like three hours ago, already having a blast, can't wait to learn a ton of fighters and grind and upgrade them all. I tried brawling online but ultimately only ended up playing two matches before moving back to Smash Run and Classic Mode because it kind of wasn't worth it with the lag. Is this something that varies from match to match or is it more or less something I'll have to live with? And could it be improved by this and coming patches?
@Folkloner At first it seems a disappointing prospect given that one of the big selling points of amiibo when it was first announced is the functionality to hold save data. However, we're forgetting that this current line of figures is designed more or less for Smash. This means that while for certain characters and figures this might present a problem in future titles (Mario, Luigi,Bowser etc amiibo functionality is going to pop up all over the place in time) many of these characters probably won't see much use outside of their first compatible game. Also, even when the figurines are given use in more titles, it might not always be necessary to write save data onto the figures in every game, like what we're seeing with Mario Kart and Hyrule Warriors.
Also I hope they've improved the 3D, and the interface. I don't think the 3D effect was quite grasped for the Ocarina remake, all the locations were way too deep and it all looks pixelated and messed up. The font was ugly and the touch screen elements were really unappealing. We've seen much more beautfiul presentation more recently in A Link Between Worlds and it really makes a difference to the game. You can see in the trailer that they've altered the engine a little and there's a slightly different font, but everything stil looks to have pointy bits and hard edges. I'll keep hopes up though!
I've got to say I think I was more invigorated by the direct the other night than I even was about the presentation at E3! I was convinced they weren't developing Majora's Mask 3D when it didn't show up at E3, and it was so exciting when they opened with it in the direct. However I'm so glad that they're streamlining the gameplay a little bit, the nineties was a different time and games are different now. Playing Ocarina 3D (probably one of my favourite games of all time by the way) I couldn't help finding myself clueless and frustrated at some of the more obtuse parts and lack of direction, and I was desperate for them to say that Majora's Mask would be changed up a little bit. It's easily done to make the game more streamlined but not detract from the experience, as proved by the addition of the swift sail and the slight changes to the Triforce shard quest in Wind Waker HD. I've never got far into Majora's Mask, and this is one exciting game announcement. This in Spring and Zelda U at Christmas!
@G0dlike Hey, do you still have that Pokemon code? I'd be really interested in it, my email is [email protected] if you wanted to send me it, I'd really really appreciate it
Possibilities for amiibo in Hyrule Warriors... Perhaps dropping an extra character into battle to give you support, with the ability to switch between characters and be able to play as either one at any given time in the battle. Perhaps levelling up your character and taking it to a friend's house to drop your upgraded character into their game to play co-op.
With the recent DLC announcements, maybe there's a new mode coming that would support amiibo exclusively (this is probably not very likely).
The action could also be cross-compatible with Smash, where levelling your characters up in either game counts toward your stats in the other. All speculation, though I'm sure we're bound to see something interesting.
It's exciting to know Nintendo are willing to feature retro tracks that have already been remade previously - it's something I didn't think they'd do so soon even knowing many retro tracks from the previous 3DS and Wii iterations of the game would benefit from an HD, anti-grav rehaul. Think Double Dash's DK Mountain that was remade on Wii and SNES Rainbow Road on 3DS. I'm betting we'll see some more of them in the DLC packs AND in the next game (see you next generation...)
With only ten days left until November I wish they'd hurry up and announce a release date - I'm really desperate now.
It perhaps bodes well that Sakurai's team are working on the game right down to the wire to ensure everything is the best it can be and there's nothing missing. How many games do we get nowadays that are unfinished at launch, where basic features aren't introduced until later patches, updates and DLC? On the other hand, let's hope that they're not just behind schedule and rushing to finish. It would surprise me if that were the case, but finishing so late doesn't give them much time to check the finished product before it ships.
I've been closely following the development of Bayonetta 2 since just before E3, but wasn't convinced it was my kind of game. I was thinking about asking for it for Christmas or maybe just skipping it altogether. I downloaded the demo as soon as it was available, and within just a few minutes of playing, Bayonetta 2 transitioned from a title I was terribly unsure about to a game I couldn't wait to play. I immediately went out and bought the original and 2 is a high priority on my list. Play the demo. Just play it.
I have to expect that the Gamecube controller will be compatible with Virtual Console titles and even Wii U titles and that they'll implement support for future releases, otherwise if I'm gonna buy a new controller I'm gonna get either a Wii Classic controller or a Wii U Pro controller. Is there anywhere we've heard how much the adaptor alone costs yet? Because that's something I might be interested in if it's >£10
A lot of people seemingly unaware that Amiibo is a new platform that will crossover lots of first-party Nintendo software - it's not just for Smash. We'll also see Amiibo support in Mario Kart 8 along with other titles released in the future. This means that we won't necessarily get all the characters from the Smash roster.
I honestly think Ocarina still isn't the game it could be. The 3DS version's great but the graphics aren't amazing even by the system's standards, the interface is really under-developed and ugly (see gorgeous touch screen elements of A Link Between Worlds by comparison). If they remade Ocarina on Wind Waker's engine, give it an HD reskin, then we'd have a truly amazing game and the game it deserves to be.

@ravens326 Nobody uses game-breaking glitches to speedrun games and takes that as the experience the developers intended. You can see in the trailer that they've altered the engine a little and there's a slightly different font, but everything stil looks to have pointy bits and hard edges. I'll keep hopes up though!
Re: Eiji Aonuma Confirms Majora's Mask 3D Has Been In Development Since 2011
I've got to say I think I was more invigorated by the direct the other night than I even was about the presentation at E3!
Re: Yoshi Circuit From Double Dash!! Makes A Comeback In November's Mario Kart 8 Zelda-Themed DLC Pack
@G0dlike Hey, do you still have that Pokemon code? I'd be really interested in it, my email is [email protected] if you wanted to send me it, I'd really really appreciate it
Re: Link amiibo Compatibility Confirmed for Hyrule Warriors
Re: Yoshi Circuit From Double Dash!! Makes A Comeback In November's Mario Kart 8 Zelda-Themed DLC Pack
Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Announcement Revealing its "True Potential" is on the Way
It perhaps bodes well that Sakurai's team are working on the game right down to the wire to ensure everything is the best it can be and there's nothing missing.
Re: Review: Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)
I've been closely following the development of Bayonetta 2 since just before E3, but wasn't convinced it was my kind of game. I was thinking about asking for it for Christmas or maybe just skipping it altogether. I downloaded the demo as soon as it was available, and within just a few minutes of playing, Bayonetta 2 transitioned from a title I was terribly unsure about to a game I couldn't wait to play. I immediately went out and bought the original and 2 is a high priority on my list. Play the demo. Just play it.
Re: Limited GameCube Controller Edition of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Comes to Light
Re: Nintendo Confirms amiibo Launch Range of 12 Figurines
A lot of people seemingly unaware that Amiibo is a new platform that will crossover lots of first-party Nintendo software - it's not just for Smash. We'll also see Amiibo support in Mario Kart 8 along with other titles released in the future. This means that we won't necessarily get all the characters from the Smash roster.
Re: Video: The 10 Best Zelda Games As Selected By You
I honestly think Ocarina still isn't the game it could be.
