Re: Review: Cult Of The Lamb - Animal Crossing Goes Bad In This Satisfyingly Stressful Sim

NightMiroir

@Not_Soos I can see how this kind of games can be upsetting to people of faith. I personally think it's not to be taken as seriously however, and is made to be humourous (because cute lamb doing a cult, but it could also easily have been a cute alpaga or a cute frog), unlike Binding of Isaac which, without mocking anyone, is really about Christianity and the story of Abraham and Isaac (but again, I don't think the goal was to offend.) Religion is an easy theme : everyone know about the obvious reference, and you can do what you want with them. A fantasy rpg, a horror game, a sur natural world etc...(just look at Shin Megami Tensei, the parent of Persona, and all they have done with... well, every religion they could think of)

To comment on the Persona, it IS true that a particular event can be interpreted poorly in Persona 5: two queer person will talk to you and your male friend in a cutscene and will try to "force" the male friend to become a drag (I'm sorry, English is not my first language, I'm not sure of the word, a male who dress as a female). It's really short, means to be funny and is representatice of the Japanese humour (if you are familier with One Piece, and the Okama way, then you know haha). I also didn't feel it was mean to be offensive, but can understand queer people being offended if they feel it's a representation of their community as a whole (it all depends of our personal sense of humour I think).

If it can make you feel better, I have encounter some games where religion was presented in a positive way (in my opinion, which is of course by default not neutral)!

In the Soulsborne games, we of course have my man Solaire of Astoria (Dark souls 1) who was my only ray of light during the game : always joyous, helpful and ready for some joly cooperation, kind, and a religious dude. From the same game, a Npc name Rhea, depicted as kind and gentle. From Demon Souls, Astrea (an important character) who is a Saint of the Church and who have gone in a pilgrimage to help the sicks and destitutes.

Dragon quest series, where the church and god are generally a force of good (like, you HAVE to go to the church to bring your characters from the dead!). You even play as an angel is Dragon Quest 9.

Castlevania of course! A whole group of religious guys battling evil! And with cool whips too!

Legend of Zelda : the whole point is to battle the evil entity (generally our dear Ganon), and as a Hylian, Link believes in the Goddess Hylia and IS her champion. So, good religious boy (and best boy) battling evil!

Not really related to you, so please don't take it personally, but I think a lot of people are pretty sensitive and see negativity everywhere (like with the Persona thing I commented on above). Yes, sometimes things are done poorly. Yes, there is not enough representation of minority. We just also have to understand that poor representation, or humorous one, aren't necessarily there to offend.

But it's good to talk about these things so we can all understand each other better, and make the necessary changes in the video game industry.

Re: Feature: "It's A Bit More Evil Than Animal Crossing!" - Behind The Cutesy Cult Sim Everyone's Talking About

NightMiroir

@TDRsuperstar2 oh yes, sorry for the mistakes (English isn't my first language, I make mistakes or talk gibberish pretty often haha). You don't have any "real life" event, the passing of time is more like harvest moon/stardew valley where the time is "internal" to the game.

If my informations are correct, a full day-night cycle is approximately 15 minutes in real life, and when you quit the game, it shouldn't continue to live by itself, UNLIKE Animal Crossing 😉.

If I understood correctly, from various videos and websites : you have day-night cycles, a full cycle being roughly 15 min in real time. The time passes when you are "at home" with your cult, or when you are exploring dungeons. You can miss things (like doing certain activities with your cult) if you are not there during the day cycle, and I don't know what you can do during the night cycle. If you are not careful, and are exploring dungeons, time will pass, and you could be absent from your home base for several days, so be mindful of consequences (cultist starving or leaving, missing event or activities etc).

From what I've seen, real time and "game time" have no correlation, so feel free to go physical!

NightMiroir

@SuperDan64 I'm sorry this game offend you. I personally think this is not to take as seriously as this, but more like a cute game with an ironic take : the innocent lamb (it could have been a innocent dog/cat/sloth/alpaga but it's the lamb IS a good representation of cute and innocent) being a cultist and in service of an evil entity. I myself find it more Lovecraftian related (and we HAVE a Chtulu cosmetic haha)

I'm pretty sure it wasn't the dev's intentions to mock anyone, and religious themes are pretty commons in games (Binding of Isaac (Christian religion) and Shin Megami Tensei series (every religion they could think of) to just quote some) because it's an easy subject to take inspiration from (everyone will understand the obvious references, you can constructs a whole world with it (supernatural, fantastical, horrific....)).

Re: Move Over Paper Mario, A New '2D' RPG Could Be Heading To Switch

NightMiroir

I don't really like it. The characters design seems pretty lazy (pig, skeleton, mushrooms...) and the main character looks pretty plain. Every game doesn't have to have visually complicated character, but a little creative effort (without being other the top) would have been appreciated.

The game itself looks fun, but I would like to know the mechanics: what I liked in "paper game" are strange mechanics who take advantage of the paper world.Let me fold, scratch, draw, destroy...

Seems, just with this trailer, a generic copy of paper mario. I'll have to wait for more informations!

Re: Hand-Drawn Metroidvania 'Islets' Asks The Question: What If Hollow Knight Was About Cats?

NightMiroir

I love me some metroidvania, but I don't know, this one looks kinda... off ?

I find the protag moov to be kinda stiff, the environments (when we are in a room) to be a little weird (like it's lacking textures?). The background is pretty, the characters cute enough but something doesn't click.

Maybe it's the atmosphere? If we compared it to Hollow Knight, who IS a cute little bug, this doesn't really compared, so maybe it's a bit unfair to put this two games side by side.

Re: Round Up: Aksys Announces Multiple New Switch Games, Arriving In 2023

NightMiroir

Death mark 2?! YES PLEASE!!!!

Love me some horror visual novels, they are so rare! I liked Spirit hunter NG, but Death Mark was at another level: loved the stories, the scare, the end that I didn't see coming... if someone here know about some VN like this, please let me know!

For Otome games, Shuuen no Virche seems interesting, with a creepier theme and visuals. If inescapable is half as good as a Danganronpa game, then count me in too!

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Is A Reminder That It's Never Too Late To Change

NightMiroir

I really like Pokémon Legend, and I also liked the formula before. Legend introduce to us players what Pokémon could become, and I find it amazing.

An open world where Pokémon are roaming, some big and dangerous, some cute and fluffy! Where you can sneak on them and catch them, or battle them!

If they can do that, and merge it with the classic formulas... It could be amazing. An open world Rpg, with sneaking element AND battle elements, with lots of towns and characters but with side quests, more customization for your character, gym battle, league 4, championship. AND EGGS!

It would be cool to be able to chose the age of your character too, and not only be a young girl/boy

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Sold 1.43 Million Units In Japan In Just Three Days

NightMiroir

I think it's a really good think for Nintendo and Gamefreaks, it proves players can play, and want to play, something different and not only the "base" formula of Pokemon.

Great game, love to see all these pokemon in the wild, love to be able to battle every one of them OR just throwing pokeballs left and right. Love the new pokedex, like the system of quests, really a great game, everything I wanted Sword and Shield to be!

Not gonna lie, I miss the gym a little haha

Re: Talking Point: Do You Replay Games?

NightMiroir

I like replaying games! I don't always finish them, but recently I came back to : Etrian odyssey untold 2 on the 3ds, Dragon age Inquisition on ps4, xenoblade chronicles x on the wii u, and even paper mario on the GameCube

Some I find comfort into, some I really missed, some I completely forgot... And, when I can't afford the new release immediately, I always have something to play! When I was a child, I did have to replay my game as my family couldn't really afford new game, and I was getting one new game per year (at Christmas, or on my birthday)

Re: Soapbox: I Somehow Bought Over $800 Of Animal Crossing Crap In One Year

NightMiroir

I understand you... Or, as the meme says "I'm in this picture and I don't like it" haha

I have spend so much on games and Manga! I don't have a lot of extra expenses, as I don't really buy things a lot and like to usually keep my money for this kind of stuff : I have a growing collection of cute nendoroids, my Zelda shrine is getting bigger by the day with all the things I collected, and I don't have place anymore for my mangas. And I am happy about it, because these ones spark joy /!!!

@BloodNinja don't worry pal, and don't feed the troll, take my "fellow gamer approval"!

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Normalise Giving Up On Games Early

NightMiroir

I really love Kate's articles, always fun to read!

I personally didn't finish ANY Etrian Odyssey, except Untold the millennium Girl. I didn't finish untold 2, the fourth or the fifth, OR nexus! I love these games, I discovered dungeon crawler because of them when I bought the first Etrian odyssey on the DS on a sale, and I often replay them BUT!

They are long, they are difficult, they take a lot of time. I remember, I was so happy when untold introduced the possibility to lower the difficulty : I can beat the game in its normal difficulty, we all can, but when you want to enjoy the most of it with little time.? A lot of fellow gamers where sometimes shaming people for not playing it at the highest difficulty, like it will have ever lasting consequences in your life if you did

I just wanted to lost myself in labyrinths, which were pretty difficult even on "normal" mode if you were not careful, and most of all, I wanted to draw maps. Lots of maps. Looking at my completed map, especially when it will have been a long journey through this particular floor, was really satisfying.

Re: The Caligula Effect 2 Is Coming To The West This Year

NightMiroir

Hoping Caligula 2 will be better than the first one ! Some characters were great, I like the theme (idole and music, with dark pasts and story) and I finished the game purely to see what the end will be, but the gameplay was pretty boring, and don't start me on the side quests ! The combat system could have been better in my opinion : the novelty of it was pretty short lived, it really made the combat too long, and when you know you can't make a step without encountering an enemy...(at the end I was just rushing the (really boring) dungeon hoping to not bump into a foe because I didn't want to begin a battle that I could finish in a few seconds but with a system making it twice as long as it should have been)

Story written by Tadashi ! Sounds promising !

If they have enhanced the game and the system, well, color me interested ! I will for sure wait for more info as Caligula, with more polish, could be a really great game

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Is Getting A Simultaneous Global Launch On Nintendo Switch Next Year

NightMiroir

@PrincessAzunyan @mousieone

Could be male or female depending on how you look at the protagonist.
Long eyelashes and cute feminine face, could be female
Based on the clothes, the body and the history of SMT, could be male.

I'm voting for male personally. The clothes (male school uniform) body type, plus the fact that a lot of "anime protagonist" can have an androgynous face. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a SMT game has a female main protagonist ? (in persona we have the remake of Persona 3 but the first game had male protagonist)

I would be very surprised if the main character was female, considering the other SMT games (but maybe ATLUS will make some changes with SMT 5 ?)

Re: Shin Megami Tensei III Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Alongside The Fifth Game

NightMiroir

@Hobbesyall the battle mechanics are basically the same (you recruit demons, fuse them to make them stronger, battle opponents to level up) but the similarities end there. In SMT, you have no "dating sims" elements (no social link, no free time with extra activities like reading, sports, job etc). SMT games are also harder, and for the most part more "complicated": you have different endings, represented by Law (often, the angels and god) Chaos (often, the demons) and Neutral (often, your fellow humans). You get an ending depending on your choices during dialogues or quests.

Don't be fooled, as siding with "angels" is not necessarily good, and siding with "demons" is not necessarily bad either (it's more a question of what the player consider to be right or wrong). Also, I would suggest trying another SMT game, like SMT 4 if you have a 3ds, or watching some let's play: I know some people who loved Persona and couldn't get into SMT (too hard, too dark, too complicated of a plot, not colorful enough, no dating sims...) but it really is worth it !

Give it a try !

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 4th)

NightMiroir

@Incarna ah yes, I like to know how long is a game (I like long games myself, like Persona, or Xenoblade, this kind of long) but for a game as repetitive as it seems to be, maybe it is a good thing it's on the shorter side haha.

Haaaa no I don't think I'll dab on the 101 dungeon: I don't like this kind of dungeon to begin with ( I like to mix dungeon with quests or exploration etc) and with what you have told be about it, I'm SURE I'll hate it with a passion
