Kyle Thompson, the solo developer behind the gorgeous, weird, and gorgeously weird metroidvania Sheepo, is back with a brand-new game for the Nintendo Switch, PC, and consoles called Islets, another hand-drawn metroidvania that had us at "what if Hollow Knight, but cats".
You'll play as Iko, a tiny, brave mouse who uses his rickety old plane to explore islands in the sky, separated from the land long ago after some long-forgotten calamity, hoping to try to find a way to restore the world. Thompson bills the game as "wholesome", thanks to its themes of making connections with others and rebuilding the world anew.
A cavalcade of bosses will be there to stop you, though, and you'll need to find and master unique abilities to fight them off. Normal metroidvania stuff — not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you — but look how pretty it is!
You won't have long to wait until you can get your little mitts on this one, as Islets comes out on Switch, PC, and all the current and last-gen Xboxes on August 24th, 2022.

Very Ghibli, I dig it
I thought Hollow Knight was good, but it was far and away the most depressing game I've ever played. This looks like I would actually enjoy it more. Looking forward to this now.
Ah the never ending strings of Metroidvania titles. I think my Metroidvania journey of completing every game in the genre will never end.
Oooh me want, looks great, will hold out for 6 months for a physical and then I will probably cave, just like I did for HollowKnight
So many metroidvanias.
And I'd say, keep m coming. Love the genre.
😍 This looks amazing!
Looks good! Haven’t played Sheepo yet, waiting for a deep sale. This looks a little more my speed.
Has anyone here played Sheepo?
Looks pretty decent.
I'd like to add this and Moonscars to my wishlist, but I've run out of space again. I guess I'll either have to grab a few of the games on heavy discount or start deciding which of them to let sink into the eshop's bottomless ocean of mediocre indies.
hi... i like the little clothes they gave to the characters.
This looks promising. I'll keep an eye on it.
Hollow Kitty.
😜
Looks good.
I love me some metroidvania, but I don't know, this one looks kinda... off ?
I find the protag moov to be kinda stiff, the environments (when we are in a room) to be a little weird (like it's lacking textures?). The background is pretty, the characters cute enough but something doesn't click.
Maybe it's the atmosphere? If we compared it to Hollow Knight, who IS a cute little bug, this doesn't really compared, so maybe it's a bit unfair to put this two games side by side.
