Splatoon wrapped up another Splatfest this past weekend, and continues to evolve and add new content on a weekly basis. The development team remains active in tweaking the game and applying fixes, too, and update 2.1.0 will arrive soon - at 598MB in Japan - to do just that.
The update is due to be preceded by some maintenance before going live at the standard update time (7pm Pacific / 10pm Eastern / 3am UK / 4am CET), albeit on this occasion it'll be implemented on Tuesday / Wednesday (2nd / 3rd September). A changelog has been posted and given a little more sense by those Splatoon fans over on Reddit; there are tweaks to weapon capabilities, while a couple of stage shortcuts and glitches are also due to be resolved.
Stage adjustments
- Arowana Mall: Adjusted terrain in one place to prevent squids from going through, all modes.
- Camp Triggerfish: Terrain adjustments to prevent players from directly jumping to the opponent's side, Turf War and Splat Zones
Main Weapon adjustments
- All Rollers: While moving, the movement of the field of view when raising the roller overhead has been fixed. The problem in question was changed in Ver. 2.0.0; this corrects it to be the same movement as in Ver. 1.3.0.
Sub Weapon adjustments
- Splash Wall: In the situation a bomb hits the enemy's Splash Wall, players standing on the other side of the Wall would receive damage. This has been corrected.
Ranked rule adjustments
- In Tower Control, if both team's counts (goal distances) are extremely close, in spite of differences between the counts, the on-screen display denoting the counts/numbers would show the same numbers. This has been fixed.
- In Tower Control, after advancing the tower to the same count, the enemy was unable to take the lead in the situation if the tower was then taken.
- In Ver. 2.0.0 it was "the team that takes the lead's count is decreased by 1," while before Ver. 1.3.0 it was "the team who had the lead taken from them's count is increased by 1."
Other
- The problem of receiving Error 104-2230 after downloading the Ver. 2.0.0 update to be fixed.
- Other adjustments to the game have been made so players may have a more pleasant experience.
The resolution of connection error messages - which for some had shut off online play entirely - will be particularly welcome.
A solid list of changes, overall, but let us know what you think.

Never knew there was terrain you could go through in Arowana Mall. I'll have to try it out in a private match before it's fixed.
Great to see the game becoming so stable. We've come quite a ways from the final global test fire haven't we?
Other adjustments to the game have been made so players may have a more pleasant experience...
so players may have a more pleasant experience...
a more pleasant experience...
So does this mean that I wont be killed by someone 5 seconds after I kill them? Because that happens, a lot...
@ShaunOfNintendo
3x full Quick Respawn gear is 1-second respawn (or 3 including animation and quick jumping back to action).
The field of view change and in a problematic way when using the Roller? I use the roller so much I barely remember how to use a gun and still I never noticed that prolem ^_^;;;
Then again... I use the Carbon Roller, when I lift it overhead the animation last a second or less, maybe the camera doesn't even have the time to change the view XD
Now for that 3-stage rotation every hour...
I just want Callie and Marie to tell me what the ranked mode is before the stages. I swear after last night I'm never playing Splat Zone again. And rainmaker is preferable to tower control. I just can't understand why they tell us stages but not the mode.
And I want the website with the stats that Japan has, but that has nothing to do with the game, just NOA hold get out on us. Shouldn't take more than 3 minutes to translate a front end.
So glad they're fixing the shortcuts.
The Arowana Mall one is pretty hard to pull off but I've done it a few times during matches and it can completely change a game, especially in Rainmaker when your team is storming towards the goal and you sneak up behind your opponents.
Oh great, this makes the splash wall even more powerful. Also I still think the seekers should be shootable.
@rjejr
+1 on what is the current game mode. Although on the contrary, I prefer Splatzone over Rainmaker. Tower Control is crap.
@rjejr The mode is listed in the lobby.
Has anyone else noticed that while someone fired a shot at you with a blaster weapon, it curves in the air? What the heck, are these heat-seeking ink blasters?
@rjejr I would like to know that too. It would save me the walk over. I also have to agree, I can't seem to win anything in Splat Zone, so I generally get frustrated, but Rainmaker is generally fun wether I win or lose.
@rjejr
Website would be cool, but I think Nintendo could work on a cellphone app so you have this information at your fingertips. Announce new weapons, stages, modes, so you can access it from your phone anywhere.
I don't really mind going to the lobby to find out the mode, but I see your point.
@sinalefa The Japanese statistics site is designed for mobiles, although it isn't a dedicated app.
@Samuel-Flutter you don't have to walk. You can just hit the lobby button on the controller screen..
Great, they're making the Splash Wall even better. I know shooting the wall makes it disappear faster, but I still think it's too good in narrow courses, in my opinion. They are especially good in Tower Control.
Besides that, I'm glad they're fixing the Arowana Mall glitch. Hopefully they'll come out with more weapons and stages soon!
@Samuel-Flutter I mean, you don't have to walk all the over to the lobby, you could just tap the "Lobby" shortcut on the Gamepad and it will take you right there.
@Sinalefa so much yes on having an app instead! I'll take that idea a step further and say I'd love the ability to customize my loadout through the app so it will be ready for me when I fire splatoon up. The core game also needs custom slots for your favorite configurations, as opposed to dressing them up piece by piece, but I suppose baby steps, Nintendo
@rjejr I'd honestly would just love the option to skip Callie and Marie altogether, with the exception of special announcements like new stages/weapons and Splatfests... The announcement of the stage rotation is fine with me as well.
@rjejr @jariw Rather than going to the lobby you can select "Stages" on the gamepad right after Callie and Marie's intro and the mode will be listed there. It saves some time rather than having to open the lobby.
It's time for the following updates:
1) Option to skip the Callie and Marie intro, especially if the game has already been booted up after the latest stage/mode change and before the next stage/mode change. Which leads into my next point...
2) Stop the damn stage/mode rotation schedule. There are 1.5+ million Splatoon users out there; I think we can pick and choose what mode we would like to play at any given time just like, oh i dunno, ANY ONLINE SHOOTER EVER MADE other than this one.
@gatorboi352 I feel like the rotation is so stages and modes aren't underutilized.
An App for this game would be great. They can do all announcements through the app. Get notifications when a new weapon is going to be released, new maps, splatfest etc (even join your splatfest team from the app). Also, changing your loadouts (or creating custom loadout "Outfits" would be a nice touch)
hoping for the lag correction under that last bullet. still, it has been a great game.
honestly with the stage rotations... i'm happy as is. not having too much choice helps me appreciate getting morey towers (sp?). i would like to see three in the lineup, but i'm torn on this... it's more difficult to select a proper weapon that fits three stages rather than two.
@gatorboi352 That would be nice however I see why they don't give you that option. That can really split a community and they really want everyone to remain on the same page.
However, I do think the rotations need to be shorter and include 3 maps. If there were 3 maps every 2 hours with a different ranked mode I think it would encourage people to keep coming back to the game. I work 8-5 and only really have time to play Splatoon between 630-10. That means for the full 3.5 hours I am forced to play only 2 maps and one ranked mode. It sucks.
@Blue_Blur I haven't heard of this Arowana Mall glitch.
Good stuff Nintendo keep it !
@gatorboi352 The matchmaking was bad enough during the last Japanese Splatfests, when America was also a sleep. And probably since many S and S+ ranks skips random ranked now. The user base has probably been split enough now, with random ranked, Private battles and Squad Battles..
@Dew: Me neither. That and the Camp Triggerfish glitch were news to me. Know wonder I can't escape B- rank, lol.
@rjejr: Exactly. Going to the lobby to check out what ranked mode is currently playing is a hassle (esp. since I then need to leave the lobby to outfit accordingly).
"Other adjustments to the game have been made so players may have a more pleasant experience."
Does this mean I get to win a bit more online, lol?
@bluedogrulez - "esp. since I then need to leave the lobby to outfit accordingly"
Well technically you can now change gear in the lobby w/ the + button. What I find annoying about that though - admittedly I find something annoying about everything - is when I move up the modes to go on Ranked, see which mode is currently playing in rank, switch out to change my gear, then when I switch back in and hit the A button to play I'm back on turf war. I did finally figure out the error of my ways but it still happens occasionally. You would think it would just stay on whatever icon you were on - Ranked, regular, Friends, Squad. Oh well, maybe in this update.
Glad to see these tweaks and improvements. Now to fix the online connectivity issues....
@Tman Yeah thanks. I used to do that but letting us change gear in the lobby means I usually just hit the lobby button first. My point though still stnads, they spend so much time tellnin us everything else, why not mode?
@Sir_JBizzle Special "suits" would be nice as I already know what I wear w/ aeropsray and what I wear w/ th e.52 gal deco. Probably never happen. Nor will the "app", but man I really wish the website would run in English. Actually a Wii U "app" (as opposed to iOS or Android) should exist called "Splatoon Stats", even i fi tjust opened the browser, save me the trouble of booting up the game when it's splatzone mode. I don't understand why Wii had it for MKWii but Wii U can't have one. Too busy making that old Anmial Crossing app I guess.
@Splatburst I don't like turf ware or splatzone since I've become overly reliant on the .52 gal deco. I switch back to aerospray for those and then get creamed. Splatfest was fun though, but splatzone on Blackbelly skatepark is a killer.
@jariw I know it's listed in the lobby, I see it before I recon, but if we have to listen to Callie and Marie for 2 minutes - gotta admit reading some of their 1 liners is pretty funny - then they could at least tell us the ranked mode.
@bluedogrulez @Dew To be honest, I didn't know about the Arowana Mall glitch until yesterday. I was in a turf war on that stage, and I noticed one of my teammates' arrow was off the map. Out of curiosity, I super jumped to them, I landed inside the boundaries, and found out that they were on one of the palm trees jumping around in circles on the side path with the low fencing. I have no idea how they got there, but I assume that is the glitch they're talking about. I didn't know about the Camp Triggerfish one, though either.
@Sir_JBizzle @AssassinV Hah. I forget you can do that. I always walk over. Guess I like the scenic route.
@Samuel-Flutter lol. Sometimes I walk as well forgetting there's a button if I'm being honest. I do like to see what others are posting, so there's that...
Oh, nice. Hopefully I can actually killer wail a rainmaker shield now without its 100% instant "a connection error has occured" now everytime my killer wail so much as poked the shield.
@rjejr Imagine such an app was released...on the 3DS. Companion piece, amirite? </Vita>
Its not exactly common for a Nintendo game to get so many bug fixes.
Neat, maybe I'll be able to play finally! >:[
@PrincePeach92 I looked it up and saw the glitch you were talking about. The glitch you described does match the description of what they're fixing, so you're right. Thanks for letting me know. I guess there is two glitches then, if you include the palm tree one I was talking about earlier. I'm glad they're fixing the rail glitch though, since that's obviously the more important one that needs fixing.
Now if only they could fix the ridiculously broken flick attack on the rollers.
@MegaWatts
Gaaaaaaaaaaawd, I know. That one-hit kill flick makes camping WAAAAAAAY too OP. Combine that with OP specials like the Kracken and it starts to ruin the fun of an otherwise extremely fun game.
Aersospray needs to be nerfed too...
@R_Champ It's just insane how with a medium-range gun I constantly find myself having to retreat from rollers who just spam the jump flick. Either it should fire a lot less ink or the player's movement/ability to use it should be reduced drastically.
And like you say, combine it with the Kraken and you're just unstoppable. One loadout even has the Carbon Roller with burst bombs and the Inkzooka — it may look like a well-rounded set but good luck countering that with anything other than a sniper or the same set!
@TJF588 Nintendo really needed to do a better job of Wii U and 3DS integration. SSB showed it can be done, both w/ and w/o the 3DS game. And Wii had demo DLs for the DS. Current integration is a step backwards.
I assume they also made Marie snarkier in the American one. She will probably tell Callie to go kill herself.
Cool Update
