Last week, we got our first official look at The Witcher Netflix series, starring Superman's Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Alongside this teaser trailer, Netflix launched multiple social media accounts across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, dedicated to promoting the show.
Now, it appears the Twitter account is already building excitement for series, with the verified Witcher Netflix page sharing a video of Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri) reading fan reactions to the recently released teaser trailer.
If you haven't seen the actual trailer yet, take a look below. Netflix says it's "coming soon" and will be comprised of eight episodes. It's also been confirmed this is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's popular line of fantasy novels, not the video game series, which is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year.
Are you excited for the television series? What did you think of the teaser trailer? Leave a comment below.

This seems like a Game of Thrones situation. Where it'll start off good and grab everyone's attention, and then as the series goes on the writing will go downhill real fast. Happened to both Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.
I agree with the above poster. This reeks of mainstream corruption rather than true originality. Bleh.
If anything failure to match the game will be it's downfall as the fanbase will be lost in the quest. They are only making this because of the popularity of the Game not the Books. They have missed a opportunity to bring more fan rather then drive more away.
Please stop reporting on this series. It literally has no connection to The Witcher 3 on Switch or the game trilogy as a whole. It is strictly an adaptation of the novels the games themselves derive loosely from. It has no business being on this site because it isn't game related at all, and it is certainly by extension, not related to Nintendo. That's like reporting on Marvel Studios' Phase Four lineup because a select few of those characters are featured in Ultimate Alliance 3 which HAPPENS to be on Switch.
@SwitchForce But by choosing to adapt the novels over the game trilogy, it's remaining much closer to the source material. By that logic they should've adapted the Sam Raimi Spider Man trilogy on the movie tie-in games. That's not how it works. You can't just adapt the games solely on the fact that their popularity is more widespread. If anything, adapting the books will broaden the franchise's appeal to those solely familiar with the game series, as it aims to tell a condensed version of the novel narratives that would be easier for that audience to understand if their only experience with the world and lore are through CD Projekt Red, who adapted the books very loosely on top of that.
The look of this show is a bit off. I’m sure a lot of money went into this, but it looks cheap at times.
@BlueBlur101 this makes even more sense since the games' narrative is a continuation of the novels.
@patbacknitro18 Yup, but I will still watch it to the end.
@patbacknitro18 Well, that's your opinion. Generally think that The Walking Dead has got better because Season 2-3 were awful. Pacing seems to be an issue though across the board so we will have to wait and see what happens before passing judgement.
@Joekun I know what you mean - somehow it looks a bit too shiny and clean if that makes sense? Will still be giving it a go ^_^
I'm no expert..but does every other gaming website report on these news as well?
The Witcher franchise is only now appearing on a Nintendo system after many years of being prominent elsewhere and suddenly it seems like an excuse to have an overabundance of articles about the IP on a Nintendo-centric website. Especially this...it's essentially celebrity fluff which doesn't actually have anything informative on the series.
Still waiting for NL to start reporting on all those MCU-related news, because we got Switch-exclusive MUA3 published by Nintendo. You don't want to miss those clicks, right?
I keep thinking that they didn't choose the right actress for Yennefer
@Joekun,
Looks pretty cheap actually. That being said, it doesn't make sense to base it on the books and not on the games. Why is the witcher popular outside of Poland? Because of the games! That's why they make the series, because the games are so popular. So why the blazes do they base it on the books?!
When will "The Witcher: the Netflix series" come to the Switch?
Dear NintendoLife,
I wish to complain about voluntarily wasting minutes of my life reading posts by people who wasted minutes of their life complaining about voluntarily wasting minutes of their life reading an article they have no interest in.
Also, why oh why base a televisual (internetual?) series on a rich series of books and short stories rather than a game? I for one would like to see a whole episode dedicated to side quests and working out how to use a crossbow.
Freya Allan wasn't sure where Yennefer was from. As one of the lead characters in the show, you'd think she did her homework.
But I was expecting them to read out the mixed responses.
@Mii_duck I hear the Spin-off series Gwent will be based on the instruction manual rather than the game.
@Varkster It's summer. Not many things going on right now so we have to fill the blank pages somehow. Right?
@BlueBlur101 Supposedly it's closer to the books, but it looks very Americanized. I heard English translation of the books is terrible.
Also what's with that Nilfgaard armour, are they supposed to look like penises to make some statement about patriarchy or something?
@Varkster a lot of gaming websites report on movie and tv. This website has always been about Nintendo. It really makes no sense to report on a Netflix TV show that’s an adaptation of a book series
I really did not enjoy the Witcher 3 at all. It was marketed as a good entry point for newcomers to the series, even by CDPR themselves. But I found myself consistently lost by the lore brought up from previous games and not caring about most of the characters. This series in general is the last thing I want to see flood NintendoLife’s site 🤮🤮🤮
So.... does anyone now when the game actually releases on Switch? I pre-ordered the physical edition since they managed the 32GB on the cartridge and I thought that merited my (expensive over here) purchase, and I'm still anxious when I'll get to play it
@sikthvash Yea, Season 1 pulled people in, Season 2-3 got worse, later seasons got better BY comparison of seasons 2-3, and then after slowly making progress they make some of the DUMBEST writing decisions I have ever seen. If they wanted to make changes to the story that's fine, but why make changes that have no purpose? They save one character only to have Negan kill him later, which is good. Then they turn right back around and kill the character Negan kills in the comic as well. Ok......so what was the point of saving the character who was meant to die earlier? That is just one of many absurdly stupid decisions by the writers. And I have a feeling that since this series isn't following the games (And assumably even the novels as they said that they will be taking this Witcher series in a (New) direction) that we will be getting some writing on par with the later seasons of the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.
Live action Castlevania? Never played the games. As an outside it felt more like fans were into gushing about the protagonist more than the games.
I haven't read the books, but I've read articles/responses written by people who have, and apparently the TV series seems to have changed an awful lot from the source material too. So I don't think the makers of the show can really continue to use that "it's based on the books, not the games, so shut up" excuse if fans are miffed.
@Henmii Because like it or not, the books are the original source material that spun off into everything else. Again, adapting the games makes no sense from the standpoint of a casual Netflix watcher whose never heard of the Witcher series before, and they can't base the show on the games because then that hypothetical viewer wouldn't understand a single event in the narrative without the context of the novels' narratives because the games are a continuation of the books in terms of the sequence of events and the development of characters. Adapting the books just makes more logical sense, no matter how influential subsequent adaptations helped to bolster the franchise's popularity in recent years.
@Galenmereth I feel like a few creative liberties were taken in regards to attempting to simplify the lore and sequence of events for more casual Netflix watchers. I will admit the show looks a tad too clean in comparison to what I think would be more ideal in terms of tone and atmosphere for a world like Rivia, specifically in the novels in contrast with the games, however I will still give it a chance. The performances at the very least are pretty stellar and top tier for a Netflix original.
This is just ffing dumb. Also not really nintendolife news. Ah well except for the lack of 1st party games im still happy with switch.
@BlueBlur101 Here's something blur did you notice when any American Studio Americanized Japanese anime to Western it flops or has that been missed. No they are trying to make money off the Game but since it bears no resemblance to the game this will hurt more then help sales. There come a point when they should ask are they doing this for the Game sake or just trying to MILK for movie sake. I gather it's the later and that is how movie translations FLOPPS.
@BlueBlur101,
You didn't get my point: They make this series because of the popularity of the GAMES, not the books. I don't think that many people outside of Poland have read the books. The series will only attract people who played the games. And those will be very dissapointed that it isn't based on the games.
@Henmii And you didn't get my point either. The intention of this series is not to rely on appealing to just the game series fans. It's to introduce the lore and world of the entire franchise to a casual audience that aren't familiar with the games, let alone the books, which is why they're opting to stay more true to the original source material. while attempting to condense it into multi episode seasons as opposed to a Netflix Original Film. It would seem a lot more like a tone deaf cash grab if they were simply going to adapt the game narratives just because the games are more mainstream, but they're not the SOURCE material. They know it'll attract the CDPR crowd, but they're trying to reach further
@BlueBlur101,
ok, I get it. Hopefully everyone will be happy in the end (fans of the books, fans of the games, non-gamers), but we'll see. So far it looks like a lower budget Game of thrones.
@Henmii yeah it does look a bit to clean for my taste
the nilfgaard armor looks just...wrong
@SwitchForce It's been reiterated multiple times that they want to actively distance this project from the game universe. The fact that the game series just ended up being more popular is of no concern to them. If they actually wanted to cash in on the game franchise, Geralt would have a beard and would also be in love with Yennefer instead of actively trying to protect Ciri from her
How is that dramatic? There's more emotion in their reaction to the mundane lines, than the reading of the mundane lines themselves.
Is this just a sponsored article Nintendolife isn't required to mention the sponsor of?
