Re: What Is EGGCONSOLE? - Full Game List, PC-88, MSX2 On Nintendo Switch, Best Games To Start

MetManMas

@BoilerBroJoe Actually the language barrier varies from game to game.

Some games like RELICS (title screen backstory aside), Hydlide, Xanadu (ending aside), Thexder, and Drasle Family are pretty much entirely in English or at least have no major language barrier. And Hydlide 3 has a menu option at the bottom of its title menu that you can select to turn the menus into English and select again to turn the NPC text into English as well.

Re: Random: Fan Creates Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island For "Ugly" Villagers

MetManMas

My thoughts as a regular Photopia user:

1) I get if the unibrow and maybe the bowl cut are turn-offs for some people but Hazel is awesome.

2) I know there's only ten spots but I'm surprised Canberra isn't there. I mean, I love her but many friends I know are creeped out by the orange koala.

3) Alleged ugly villagers often make for amazing photo models. Al is a regular in my photo shoots, Limberg has his uses, and while I wouldn't necessarily want them on my isle I'd love to have Tabby's and Ricky's Amiibo for photo ops.

Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition Now Available On "All Platforms", Fibs Bethesda

MetManMas

It's disappointing it's not on Switch, but the difference between Switch and those other platforms is that the latter already supported mods (in one way or another) and the Creation Club stuff was basically official mods for the game.

Switch has never had mods or the Creation Club, so if the update did come to Switch it would take more work to implement it.

Re: Animal Crossing Series 5 amiibo Cards Are "Coming Soon"

MetManMas

My bet on what Series 5 will cover: The new folks both islanders and service characters (Raymond, Flick, Audie, Daisy Mae, etc.), the Welcome Amiibo folks who still haven't seen a reprint of their set (Ketchup, Sprocket, Norma, etc.), other characters returning in New Horizons who still lack Amiibo (Harvey, Wisp, maybe Lloid), and some new and/or returning old villagers to get that card count to 100.

Re: Random: This SHOCKING Fact About Wurmple Will Change Your LIFE

MetManMas

My guess is it's a retroactively added in gender variation. Both of its final evolutions, Beautifly and Dustox, had them but Wurmple (and Silcoon and Cascoon) did not.

Let's GO's heart-tail female Eevee starter becoming the standard in Galar already opened the doors to gender variation retcons so I could definitely see Game Freak doing this with other old monsters as well.

Re: Soapbox: Animal Crossing Is A Daily Delight, But These Aren't Really 'Updates', Are They?

MetManMas

Monetization is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it often leads to sleazy business practices like charging ludicrous amounts of cash to purchase gems or a gem substitute that'll only get you a paltry amount of stuff. But on the other hand, keeping a constant flow of money into a game makes it easier (and to the suits more justifiable) to make more content.

I respect Animal Crossing: New Horizons for not being tempted by the Games as Service dollars, but even as one of Nintendo's best-selling games, not having a (digital) way to make more money off of ACNH is bound to have an effect on how quickly (or not) new content is added to it.

Re: Random: This Incredible Animal Crossing Short Will Make You Feel Bad About Auctioning Off Your Villagers

MetManMas

Who trades villagers for Bells? Nook Miles Tickets are where it's at! Got over 38mil Bells with nothing to spend 'em on in the bank, but Nook Miles are harder to acquire en masse so there's value in having more chances to roll one of the villagers you desire on scouting day.

That said, I don't engage in villager selling. I know my animal friends are basically just a bunch of beep-boop robots with one of eight personalities attached, but it doesn't feel right to sell my friends. Like, I won't say no if people insist on paying me for helping them find their dreamie, but I never require it. I'm just happy for my former villagers to receive a new home.

Re: Rumour: Neopets Could Be Coming To Switch

MetManMas

If they do put a NeoPets game on Switch, I hope it's better than their past efforts at entering the non-Flash gaming realm. I remember their attempt at a Puzzle Quest-like on Wii had some really weird graphical issues and really bad loading times for a game that wasn't exactly pushing the Wii's limits.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Kicks Off Its Ninja Tour Event

MetManMas

I get there are challenges when a 3D racing game has to receive new content practically every two weeks, but I'm pretty disappointed with the 1.5 year anniversary racer additions. Ninja Shy Guy doesn't look all that different from regular Shy Guys and the other big additions this tour are more palette swaps.

The Ninja Tour would've been a great time to add Pom Pom and/or a Ninji to the roster. Or heck, show Wario Ware some love and get Kat & Ana in there; stage is already practically Wario's in all but name even though he doesn't have a new skin this tour.

Ninja Hideaway's a pretty cool course though, even if it is hard to drive around with a touch UI. I really like that this new course has layers; really hope it'll return in Mario Kart 9 whenever that happens.

Re: Talking Point: One Year On, What's Still Missing From Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

MetManMas

As a Photopia addict, what I most want is more features available for the photo mode and especially at Harv's Island. A few features I'd like to see there:

1) More filters and frames. I want a pea green Game Boy filter and a red & black Virtual Boy filter. I want a desaturated option and a more saturated (than Pop) option. I want frames featuring the game title or themed after characters or set up like a postcard. Or whatever looks cool.

2) More camera options. I wanna adjust aperture and focus, rotate the camera view, that sort of thing.

3) Unlock the camera at Harv's and indoors. I don't like the movement and zoom range for the camera being limited by where my avatar is physically standing before going into photo mode.

4) Make the "Press - to poof away" feature from the wedding event a standard feature. Because often I want my animal friends to be the stars and my big fat head not to get in the way.

5) Options for custom room sizes and window removal. I don't just want 8x8 rooms at Harv's, I want 6x6 and 10x6 like at home. I want to not have to go to the basement if I want to have no windows on a wall. Heck, I want a 4x4 tent option!

6) Holdable props. I want my friends and avatar to hold umbrellas and uchiwa fans in Photopia SO badly. Also it'd be nice if stuff like the purses and bundles of wood were holdables too.

7) An option to completely remove character-specific accessories like glasses in Photopia. Hey, they already let me substitute other stuff for Audie's shades and Rod's bandanna, so why not?

8) Always more reactions. New emotes are always awesome but I'd also like to see ones that are already available to villagers but not the player (Aggravation, Disbelief, Sunniness) get added. The poses when changing clothes would also make for nice reactions.

9) Remote object manipulation. Because I'd like my monster statue and robot hero to go off on camera sometimes.

...I could go on and on, but I'll cut it short here.

As for the other stuff upthread, I am all for other event characters getting in. Sure would be nice if I could use my Digby and Chip for photos.

Re: Soapbox: There Might Be A Bright Side To Mario's March 31st Doomsday, After All

MetManMas

@DKRap12 Yeah, I know. This is exactly why I'm hoping these games will become available in some other way on Switch after the 35th collection is no longer available, like separate eShop releases of the three.

64 and Galaxy can still be acquired on the Wii U storefront (for now), but I know the only (legit) option for Sunshine besides this compilation is the original GameCube disc. I think the game deserves better than it got on the compilation, but it'd still be nice just to have the game available at all because of how much more difficult it is to get ahold of.

Re: Soapbox: There Might Be A Bright Side To Mario's March 31st Doomsday, After All

MetManMas

My opinion on these:

Super Mario 3D All-Stars: I feel that having a $60 game package only be available for a limited time DURING A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC is in poor taste, but I'm not playing the Switch handheld much right now and if I'm really itching for Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy I have the former on my Wii U and I can still buy the latter digitally on my Wii U (or play Galaxy 2 which I already have digitally on Wii U to scratch that itch).

That just leaves Sunshine. It's a shame that its first rerelease in almost two decades won't be available after March, but frankly it could use more of a retooling (like the HD Zeldas get) than a more or less straight port of the original. Maybe it'll finally get one the next time we see the game.

Super Mario 35: I'm sad to see it go but it cost nothing but a Switch Online sub. Maybe a more substantial Mario battle royale will eventually take its place? There's certainly room to expand upon the concept.

Game & Watch Mario: Honestly I was expecting a physical only product to be limited time.

Super Mario Maker(1's servers): Frankly I'm surprised they were around as long as they were. At any rate, the writing was on the wall when the Switch released a sequel. It'll be sad to see so many stages lost, but given the costs of running servers for two out-of-print gaming platforms this felt inevitable.

Super Mario 3 cartoon: That is (soon was) on Netflix? Huh. Probably wouldn't be able to stand the old Mario cartoons now but it's pretty neat at least one of 'em is floating around the digital video services.

Bonus Challenger: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light: I know the focus is on Mario stuff being limited time, but this one's going away too. Won't affect me much 'cuz I already bought it a while back, but seeing that the game has a localization now I think odds are good we may eventually see it on Switch Online's NES service. Sans the QOL features, probably, but it's a possibility.

Re: Nintendo Ignored Zelda's 35th Anniversary This Weekend, But Fans Are Celebrating In Style

MetManMas

@Ludovsky Yeah, Nintendo likely doesn't want to detract too much attention (and pre-orders) from their big exclusives right now. Just Skyward Sword is fine, but it's best to save any alleged HD collection announcements until at least after Monster Hunter Rise.

MonHun exclusivity on 3DS over the Vita was huge for Nintendo in Japan, and now that the series is successful elsewhere after Monster Hunter World I'm sure both Nintendo and Capcom want Monster Hunter Rise to be a hit. I mean, they're changing their online infrastructure to better work with games like this.

Re: Nintendo Ignored Zelda's 35th Anniversary This Weekend, But Fans Are Celebrating In Style

MetManMas

I understand if people think Nintendo's not gonna celebrate Zelda's 35th at all, but this is probably just a combination of not being ready to announce stuff right away 'cuz of the pandemic throwing a wrench into game development and not wanting to take the wind out of the sails of Super Mario Bros.'s ongoing 35th anniversary celebration.

It's a shame they didn't acknowledge the 35th on social media, but Zelda is still a huge series for Nintendo. We'll see something eventually.

Re: Feature: 8 NES Games That Were Better On Famicom Disk System

MetManMas

Castlevania II: I think both versions of the soundtrack have their good points but the FDS's loading transitions between town and not town are a bit much. Probably more manageable on modern ports than on the FDS itself, but still not good if you get knocked into or out of town.

Castlevania 1: A save system is nice but the game's not really long enough to need one and the 1993 Famicom cart version's extremely forward-thinking easy mode is far more valuable.

Kid Icarus: This one also has a mechanically different final level (YMMV on whether or not that's better or worse) and a unique worst ending that takes some effort to get.

Zelda II: This does have you lose any levels higher than your lowest level stat on Game Over, but with the handy dandy rewind feature of Switch Online the game is a lot more palatable 'cuz levelling takes less XP. Just watch your keys in the third dungeon, though; you do not want to be unable to get the raft in a version where the fairy can't pick up things 'cuz you have to STAB THEM.

Re: Video: Seven 'Impossible' Ports That Made It Onto Nintendo Systems

MetManMas

I'm still impressed that somebody managed to port Dragon's Lair to the Game Boy Color. Like, it's not just some platformer wearing the game's skin like the NES and SNES games were; people remade all of the Laserdisc footage with 8-bit pixels and put it on a cartridge.

Of course, there are compromises with the visuals, and like said original game Quick Time Events to avoid playing death footage doesn't make for much of a game, but it's still impressive that this even happened at all.

Some people really did some crazy things on the li'l handheld. We may have missed out on that Resident Evil 1 port proper but somebody still managed to put Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare on GBC. Granted, the combat sequences would all happen in a more primitive art style, but there's still a lot of cool 8-bit pre-rendered background art in that one.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Adds New AR Camera And Cabin Features, Free Month's Subscription Offer

MetManMas

I would be happier with this update if my phone was still supported by the game.

The AR stuff looks cool, but the big update "cut off the branches" to make it happen. My phone technically met the new requirements, but is still one of the ones not supported by the latest update.

Oh well, I'm not mad. I'm just a li'l disappointed that I can no longer play a game I played daily for well over a year now.

Re: Soapbox: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Wedding Season Is A Reminder That Marriage Is Hard Work

MetManMas

Personally I am having a blast with these wedding shoots. I make a game out of it, pick a particular licensed property or theme to subject Reese and Cyrus to before I give them what they actually wanted, then post it on my Twitter (same name as here).

To name a few things I've done, I've had them walk into Harv's kitchen, get chased by Scissorman, celebrated Xenoblade Chronicles' 10th anniversary, and reenacted part of Silent Hill 2's Dog Ending.

Re: Splatoon and Super Smash Bros. Lead a Lonely Fight for Nintendo in the UK Charts

MetManMas

While there's definitely a market for Minecraft on the Wii U (Here in the US at least knockoff Cube World: Island Survival still remains near the front of the eShop's Best Sellers page and is one of the most popular Miiverse communities), the sad reality is that Minecraft just doesn't need Nintendo.

The series is popular enough that the existing console ports are consistently in the Top 10 and it has its own toylines, and there's even an unofficial toyline of popular Minecraft LPers and video makers.
