Whomst among us hasn't been seduced by the call of Bells into selling our "in boxes" villagers to rich strangers? In this Animal Crossing: New Horizons short animation, artist Densle imagines what might happen if the villagers themselves were aware of what you were doing, and how they might show their displeasure at being treated like cattle.
Beyond the (mostly) wordless narrative striking a chord with anyone who's ever been heartless enough to try to ship a beloved villager off to a new island without their consent, Densle's animation is just stunning to look at, with plenty of attention to detail that makes it look almost like this was recorded on a real New Horizons island. But the pièce de résistance is the KK Slider cover of Mozart's 'Lacrimosa', from his funereal 'Requiem'. It's just... *chef's kiss*.
Of course, it's not Densle's first time making Animal Crossing animations — they've made four in total. Lolly's Crafting begins the ACCU (the Animal Crossing Cinematic Universe) with a tale of what happens when a DIY is not to the player's liking; The Great Pietro is a love letter to the much-maligned clown-sheep-thing; and Morning Turnips is basically a psychological horror film.
Densle even makes behind-the-scenes videos, detailing the storyboard, blocking, and animation process that goes into making the shorts.
Suddenly, we feel pretty rotten about the things we subjected Raymond to. He can't help being popular.

Maybe, but the money you make in the process eases the burn a bit.
(that's a joke, I never auctioned a villager)
People auction villagers? That's one way of making money, I guess.
Auctioning off villagers just seems all a bit wrong. Perhaps not ‘mowing down civilians’ wrong but still creeps me out a bit.
Anyone who pays people like this real money for a digital character.. just baffles me honestly. Especially since these villagers don't have unique dialogue, just unique appearances. So if you have one Snooty villager, you have them all.
Its true. I watched it and will never sell a villager.
I gave a few villagers away, and paid large amounts of Nook Miles Tickets to get the ones I have. This video made me feel terrible.
I would gladly pay real-life hard-earned currency for an AI robot; it makes me feel better
@Arckadius Why? Unlike the video, most people that buy a villager is because they like it, which pretty much guarantees a much better treatment than neglecting/ tolerating a villager that you don't like that much, letting it go to "the void" or even abusing it like some weird people do.
why would i auction my villagers?
when i have a easy way of making big bells everyday
my 30,000 bells trees & selling the 4 daily fossils
The start felt a lot like Get Out.
I didn't even know you could auction off villagers. Time to say goodbye Chester!
Who trades villagers for Bells? Nook Miles Tickets are where it's at! Got over 38mil Bells with nothing to spend 'em on in the bank, but Nook Miles are harder to acquire en masse so there's value in having more chances to roll one of the villagers you desire on scouting day.
That said, I don't engage in villager selling. I know my animal friends are basically just a bunch of beep-boop robots with one of eight personalities attached, but it doesn't feel right to sell my friends. Like, I won't say no if people insist on paying me for helping them find their dreamie, but I never require it. I'm just happy for my former villagers to receive a new home.
If I knew you had lanista features in this game, I would have gotten it day one.
Def gonna be checking out the vids when I get home tho.
@MetManMas You can buy villagers with those bells instead of searching for them with Nook Miles.
I used to make a killing selling villagers - NMT for amiibo villagers and then spend them grinding for the NH exclusives which people were willing to pay money for.
I used to move about 10 - 15 villagers a night until I got bored.
Well. I personally have made my own amiibo using the stickers from Amazon to get my village exactly how I wanted. I had someone offer me a ridiculous amount of money for Chrissy like 75m. I just told them how I got her and it was end of story.
that is how its basically like. But this doesn't make me feel bad.
