Nintendo has announced that a new set of Animal Crossing amiibo cards are headed our way, although a release date hasn't yet been set.
The new cards will arrive as Series 5, joining the already existing Series 1 - 4 cards that have been popping in and out of stock over the past few months. Nintendo says that "details on this card series will be announced at a later time."
The company stops short of telling us when that time will be, but it wouldn't be surprising to see more details on the new collection in the upcoming Animal Crossing Direct. That presentation, which will show off new content promised for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, will be airing in October.
Will you be hoping to get your hands on these? Have you already picked up some of the earlier cards? We'd love to hear about your collections in the comments below.

Watch it being almost all special characters instead of villagers.
@Eel Don’t be so pessimistic lol. But you have a star, so you could ban me for saying that…..
Sorry!
I wonder if Raymond will be in this series
I hope we get the NH villagers and some old ones that haven't returned since the GCN days.
I'll wait and see what the AC Direct is like before I consider getting these. Part of me feels like they left the game for too long.
-not that New Horizons is bad, but it was delayed and still released unfinished. Adding old features and the occasional bit of furniture hasn't really impressed me.
I'd say I'm finally glad to be able to get Villagers like Audie and Raymond, but then I'm reminded the Villager Limit is still 10 for some reason... Maybe they'll give us the Welcome Amiibo ones like W. Link, Epona, Viché, Cece, etc. as cards and add them in the update?
@Kimyonaakuma It was released unfinished on design, since Nintendo knew that half the fanbase would eat up drip-fed content, as it "prolonged the game's life".
Yessss please be the new villagers! Maybe even some that have been left out of new Horizons too?
Raymond and Sherb, please ! 😃
My bet on what Series 5 will cover: The new folks both islanders and service characters (Raymond, Flick, Audie, Daisy Mae, etc.), the Welcome Amiibo folks who still haven't seen a reprint of their set (Ketchup, Sprocket, Norma, etc.), other characters returning in New Horizons who still lack Amiibo (Harvey, Wisp, maybe Lloid), and some new and/or returning old villagers to get that card count to 100.
Seeing as the Welcome Amiibo set hasn’t been reprinted, I’m guessing that Series 5 will include the Welcome Amiibo characters with standardised artwork (as opposed to the caravan artwork from the original cards) and throw in some new special visitors and the handful of new villagers to round out the set, because I don’t think there are enough new villagers to justify a 100 card expansion otherwise. I hope we get a matching album for this set as well as we never got one for the Welcome Amiibo series (or for the Mario Sports set for that matter).
There is also the remote possibility that the new update may introduce some new villagers. It ought to be pretty substantial if they’re allocating a dedicated Direct for it, right?
@VoidofLight it wasn't released unfinished keep telling yourself that bud lol
@VoidofLight,
Never give up do you.
My money is on:
Reprints of the Welcome Amiibo card set (with the RV's)
With new art (RV removed)
and New Characters like Raymond added in.
@CodyMKW Then why have we been getting DLC for stuff that was leaked from the code since right after the game came out? And why did we only get the second shop update from the beginning, and now we're likely getting the 3rd one in November? Development has stopped, the studio moved on to Splatoon 3, hence why these updates are free, they're not any extra work for the devs.
i'm sure we get the new villagers from NH in there along with others
(i want a Flick card)
@VoidofLight Every time I see a comment like this about AC, I always want to know the number of play hours the commenter has.
@faint I have 100, if you were curious, but "hours played" doesn't usually define how much content there is in an Animal Crossing title. It's usually measured in how many years played consistently, with people usually not being able to judge if the games good or not until a year into it. I never even made it a year before I quit.
@faint I have 1100 hours and I enjoyed about 900 of them immensely, then my island was finished save the extra space I left for inevitable expansions, and I twiddled my thumbs waiting to get to have a sense of completion as we all do when we play games, but it never came. It instead became a holiday simulator. So I burnt myself out of a game intentionally stifled at release when I could and would have waited for the game to be complete before jumping in if Nintendo were honest about this practice up front. It's like spending money for a new season of your favorite show but they don't tell you that the second half isn't airing until years later, if ever. To be clear, this isn't about money, I understand I got $60 worth of playtime, but I didn't get what I invested my time into to begin with. I would have spent $300 up front for the whole package if that's what they wanted, I don't care, all I'm asking for is a more respectful business practice via better communication.
Hoping Raymond will be a part of the set. I lost him last winter when my Joy Con drifted and selected he should leave my island (got an 8bitdo shortly after).
@VoidofLight Welp, I started with the Game cube and have played every total other than the mobile one. There was way more starting content in this version vs any other ever released.
@SpaceboyScreams You typically always had to wait for holidays in these titles (unless you messed with the internal clock)
@SpaceboyScreams I’m curious as to what Nintendo wasn’t up front about? They said they would support the game with updates. That’s what they’ve been doing. Now maybe it wasn’t fast enough for some. And none of know the reasons why. But they’re doing exactly what they said they would
@faint Except, New Leaf had more content overall, where as after 2 months of New Horizons, it just feels empty in comparison.
Part of me still questions why Nintendo makes amiibo cards exclusively for Animal Crossing games and why not amiibo Figures. They eliminate the opportunity for amiibo, but at the same time, they ideally act as cheaper alternatives to the expensive and rare amiibo figures.
@chiefeagle02 that sucks. I would have immediately re-started my game.
I would like to collect and share these cards, but Nintendo would need to make these easily accessible to purchase. If I can’t simply preorder or walk in on my own time to purchase these cards then I’m not bothering. Same goes for their collector edition games (looking at you Metroid Dread).
@faint You typically got the full game up front. All 4 shop upgrades, multiple stores, bigger house and way more furniture sets. And minigames. Now we have to wait just to hope for some of that. They're about to make Brewster and Gyroids a big deal as if they weren't in every previous game from the start.
@UmbreonsPapa They never told us that the full experience would be intentionally delayed so that they could spread out their free publicity from journalists after each update over a few years. I bought the game when it released expecting at least as much as I got in previous entries only to find out that you could only update the shop once, all of your side bedrooms were stuck at a smaller size, there was no new music and only a handful of new furniture sets while many more were removed, and only a measly handful of new villagers minus several great ones we got in New Leaf like Epona and Wolf Link. To make up for that, we got crafting and island construction, which are cool for sure, but not enough to make it feel like a complete experience. When you know what you paid for up front is all finished and sitting somewhere until they decide they benefit from releasing it to us bit by bit you might feel a little disrespected.
There's two that they need to reissue as well.
@UmbreonsPapa In the direct before new horizons release they mentioned the game would be getting updates but only talked about how holidays would be added in these updates and neglected to mention that a majority of stuff that new leaf added would make up these updates as well. There wasn’t even like an image of anything that wasn’t a holiday and in the one update they did mention the contents of all they announced was bunny day
