Re: Watch: The Pokémon Company Drops Mysterious Legends: Arceus Video

@Peach64 That's true, but the confusion isn't for nothing.

They've stated the game takes place in a time long ago and they've downgraded the technology to show that, with the Pokedex just being a paper journal and Pokeballs looking like wooden capsule things. To then include a smartphone and cameras is jarring to say the least. Not unheard of, what with BotW and all, but still strange to wrap around.

Re: Watch: The Pokémon Company Drops Mysterious Legends: Arceus Video

Wait...what? Why do we have footage of an (apparently not ancient but) super old region?
The guy in the video calls it a 'strange device', but he also wants to 'document some footage' so it's clearly not that strange as he has an understanding of taking footage in the first place and therefore understands it to be a camera.

This makes little to no sense.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price?

Maximumbeans

Way too expensive. Part of me wonders if it's Nintendo trying to re-establish the price it can put on its legacy titles so it has a kind of precedent when it takes down future ROM sites and the like. They can say 'this title is available on the online service for X £/$/€ so that's exactly how much you're stealing from us', although producing a hefty number hasn't exactly been difficult for them thus far.

Re: First Impressions: For Better Or Worse, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Look Like Extremely Safe Remakes

@Mauzuri I don't really think it's an issue of gratitude though.

The fan base has been making it clear what they want and don't want for years and years. I'm not against this game at all but it is frustrating to see them fiddle obsessively with a formula that basically has a master laid out for it. Following Pokemon is good. Expanded underground is very good. No HMs is incredibly good.

Single-use TMs, always-on Exp Share, ignoring content from the updated versions of the games, that's all bad. It's all stuff that the vast majority of players condemns, yet they keep doing it.

Re: Pokémon Trading Card Game Online "Sunset FAQ" Explains Shut Down Process

Maximumbeans

I would've thought they'd shut down the old servers shortly after launching the new game, but fair enough I suppose.

Glad something's coming along to replace the old client. Somewhere along the way the spaghetti code of the old one stuck my client in a permanent persistent lag after an update and I just stopped playing. It would be nice to have it back as a casual time sink I can play on my phone.

Re: Latest Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Trailer Shows New And Returning Features

Maximumbeans

@Peach64 That's definitely true. They showed quite a lot but told us nothing, similar with Legends: Arceus.
I really wish they'd be more communicative. It kind of felt like they were tossing this out to appease fans after a long silence and now they're just going to disappear again.

On positive notes, I like the graphics overall and I love that backgrounds stay consistent in battles, rather than the bland empty voids you see so often in Sword and Shield. This game already makes Sw/Sh look even more rushed than they originally did.

Re: Court Orders Popular ROM Website To "Destroy" All Of Its Unauthorised Nintendo Games

Maximumbeans

@jsty3105 No harm done. I agree that Switch ROMs are absolutely not concerned with 'preservation', same with 3DS - the games are hard to get and expensive in the latter but they're still 'out there'.
RE reading your comment, that's what I get for scrolling right down to the comment box without catching up first I guess. I think your bullet points will help clear a few things up for any readers who arrive hereafter.

Re: Court Orders Popular ROM Website To "Destroy" All Of Its Unauthorised Nintendo Games

Maximumbeans

I feel like a judge should be sure they absolutely understand the subject matter before they pass a verdict. In this case, would they feel the same if they knew just how little this actually affects Nintendo's profits? And that you can't really 'destroy' ROMs, nor can you ascertain that they haven't already been backed up or emailed to a hundred other people?

Just feels like this is propelled by a lot of ignorance.

Re: Soapbox: Playdate Sold Out In 20 Minutes - Is It Time For A New Nintendo Handheld?

Maximumbeans

I'm one of those contentious luddites who think Nintendo should never have merged their home console and handheld efforts into the Switch.
I know it's highly unlikely, but I hope in future they go back to having them separate. I feel like it let handheld games be handheld games, and home console titles have their focus without having to also find a way to run undocked on an underpowered system.

Re: Soapbox: In Praise Of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Two Years On

Maximumbeans

@Kilamanjaro One of my big letdowns with the game wasn't the graphics specifically, but the way the weapons feel. The attacks are too 'wooshy' and they seem to just clip through enemies without any impact. You look at attacks from the 3DS games, particularly Shadows of Valentia, and every attack has the right sound and visual weight to it. Critical attacks sound like you're smacking an enemy with the power of a god, as they should.
Three Houses attacks just kind of swoosh with that same white-blue effect. It bothers me more than it should.
