Re: Reggie Talks About Nintendo's Slow Adoption Of Online Play

MIDP

It is a joke how online Nintendo stuff is still mid
The new virtual console is actually really awesome, that is a great example of a great experience, being able to hang out and browse games then jump in and out of stuff
Especially with N64 and 4 player games
Basically couch play online
Minecraft being multi platform is also one of my most played because of that reason
Mario Kart and Smash are honestly a joke, MK is fine I guess because it is so fun
But Smash and it's lack of options and ways to play online, it is terrible
Had to buy another Switch to play against friends with one person on my couch

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Sonic Game?

MIDP

Sonic Mania Plus is one of the best video games I've ever played.
I actually bought my Switch primarily because I wanted to play the original Mania.
I mean I still would've gotten it, but that was the game I was looking most forward too and I loved it.
I was soo happy when they added the Plus version.
I can't wait for them to make Sonic Mania 2.
This is basically a modern version of the best parts of all old school games - including VS racing which was one of my favorite parts.
I truly love this game.
number 2 would be Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
3 is Sonic 3.
Then Sonic 2, then Sonic & Knuckles.
Sonic & Knuckles gets lowest place of these because it did not have an awesome multiplayer like 2 - which is the best VS multiplayer until Mania (Sonic 3 one is bad actually), otherwise I'd say they're comparable gameplay wise, Sonic 2 might edge it out because of more levels to play since 3&Kn is kind of short and has that scary desert level which is still haunting even though it isn't as hard today as when I was a kid.
To be fair though, Level with the water in Sonic 2 was actually way more traumatizing for a 6 year old - that music - look at me now!

Re: Rollercoaster Tycoon Could Be Coming To The Switch

MIDP

@Seanmyster6
Really?
"Seeing as this isn’t a KickStarter, the minimum donation amount is $250, but those who pay will get their money back plus a little extra, if all goes well"

I interpreted that as you would get your money back, assuming the game was part of it.

Ok, if it is the way you say it is then it is pretty sketchy yes.

Re: Rollercoaster Tycoon Could Be Coming To The Switch

MIDP

Crowdfunding of games is so much better.
It is a great way for companies to actually measure the real demand of the market instead of just taking a risky shot at something.
Basically asking the masses if they want a thing to exist or not, and then go from there.

Re: Random: Turns Out Everyone's Favourite Video Game Analyst Was Right, Nintendo Fans Will Buy Cardboard

MIDP

@PlywoodStick
Ok, but in that case, clearly it was his opinion, whether or not he made money on it.
So yes, I'd still file that under PC outrage, because by that logic, you are basically not allowed to say anything.
He does video game market commenting, his job is to have opinions - and yes, make money on those opinions.
He clearly doesn't like Nintendo(if you don't believe that watch him more) and then he should be able to state his opinion.

Let me ask you this instead, if he wanted to state his opinion - that he believes that Nintendo has backwards business practices and that he thinks Iwata is out of touch - how else would he describe it?

Re: Random: Turns Out Everyone's Favourite Video Game Analyst Was Right, Nintendo Fans Will Buy Cardboard

MIDP

@PlywoodStick
I watched the clip.
PC outrage over the Iwata comment.
He doesn't think Iwata was great, that is his opinion.
The clip there was also from October 2016, Iwata passed away(Rest in peace) in July 2015.
Now was this video posted during that time or later?
That would be pretty relevant.

Either way though, its nuts that I have to go out and defend this douche bag, because he really is a douce bag, and a smug one at that.
But was there a problem with his Iwata comments?
No, that was his opinion. And far from the smuggest thing he ever said.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Analysis Points To Switch Sonic Forces Being The Worst Version

MIDP

@MysteryCupofJoe
I agree, although, they(3D games) do have a purpose(kind of...), it just happens to be a really bad purpose(in my opinion).
They are basically runners where you just memorize patterns and avoid stuff/do stuff.
Sonic Mania and the other old school 2D games do what Sonic should do - platforming.
And yes, Heroes and Adventure(s) have a solid base where they encourage exploration.
If they could make games like those but make the controls and camera just a little better then I'm sure we'd have us a good purpose to play Sonic in 3D.
For now though, the most important thing is that SEGA focuses their attention on letting the Fan Team make a proper Sonic Mania 2.
Hopefully they don't get greedy and try to crank it out faster than they can make it good.
SEGA, don't F%%K this up.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Analysis Points To Switch Sonic Forces Being The Worst Version

MIDP

@kobashi100 Fair enough, although I thought it was fine and enjoyable.
At least enough so to separate it from whatever that came after.
The physics were at least predictable enough to make it playable.
All that came after, that I played, like Generations and Colors has been unplayable in my opinion.
Their DS and 3DS counterparts have been ok.
To be fair, Lost World was almost kind of okay, if it wasn't for all the gimmicks and other bs they crammed in to make it completely unplayable.
But yeah, that game was pretty bad, even if they fixed the main issues with the other types of 3D Sonic games that are basically visual guitar hero runners.

Re: Review: Minecraft: Story Mode - The Complete Adventure (Switch)

MIDP

@samuelvictor
I meant Story thing driven whatever something...you know.
But not point and click, I played a bunch of those.
I mean a game like this, you watch a movie and make decisions pretty much. The point and click stuff in the game definitely felt like the weaker parts, but not completely unnecessary though.
But either way, I am sure there are a ton of games "like this one" to catch up on too.
Please give me some recommendations.

Thanks!

Re: Review: Minecraft: Story Mode - The Complete Adventure (Switch)

MIDP

Ok, I played this on my Android phone.
I didn't even care about Minecraft before, after playing this I started downloading all the fake 3DS versions that were out, Terraria, and then eventually the real deal when it finally came to Nintendo platforms.

This Story Mode game is AMAZING.
A 7/10 is disgustingly unfair.
An 8/10 would be the absolute minimum.

It literally showed me a new genre of games and a different way to experience video games.
Please, if you are on the fence, get this, it is really good. Top 5 games I played in 2016 easily.
I am on the fence of rebuying it just to replay it again, but on the Switch.
There are still some endings I never got that I really want to experience.

This review is unfair.

Re: Pokémon Boss Didn't Think Switch Would Be A Success In The Age Of The Smartphone

MIDP

@KryptoKrunch
Not really, they appeal to the same people, Nintendo fans.
Almost no one I know even knows what Smash Bros is, and they see Mario as a kids game or nostalgia novelty.
Almost everyone I know have an XBox or a PS, on top of my head I can think of 100 people on my FB friend list.
One person I know has a Switch, the same person has a 3DS and is also one of only two people I know with a 3DS.
You can look at sales numbers of the other platforms and the games for them. It is very clear that they sell more, and that Nintendo is mostly appealing to their core base.
I mean, when I used to play my 3DS, no one knew what it was. Some people asked if it was a GameBoy.
Nintendo needs mass appealing games or make their consoles super cheap to produce(if the Switch isn't already).
If they can produce cheaper products and get their profits that way, then sure, they will be fine selling 20-25M consoles every life cycle, or even better, sell it even cheaper and they could easily sell 50-60M like the 3DS. I don't know their exact business model of course, but it all comes down to how much they expect to make and how, and in that sense, 60M might not be better than 30M.
But one thing is clear, they won't sell 60M units or near that with the Switch unless they get mass appeal games, OR if they make a price drop.
Right now I've seen PS4 bundles for 299 or 249.
Why would anyone buy a Switch for the same price if there are more games that they want to play on the PS4?
Just on FIFA alone Switch are getting problems as many get the PS4 and/or XBox only for that.
The Switch is getting it watered down version(which is a great thing!), but that core audience are still mostly on PS4 and XBox.
In order for people to see that it can be fun on the Switch, the Switch needs to make it expectable that they have those games.
But they can't afford FIFA 18 being bad, and then FIFA 19 not coming out.
Also, NHL is another big one, NFL, NBA etc.
So yeah, they need it.

Re: Pokémon Boss Didn't Think Switch Would Be A Success In The Age Of The Smartphone

MIDP

@Grumblevolcano

The problem is that Mario Odyssey has very limited appeal, all Nintendo games have limited appeal.
Everyone I know plays FIFA or COD. Sports and shooters/war games.
The Switch needs scaled down versions of COD, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Overwatch and more of those types of games.
Basically the games that sell the most is what the Switch needs. If they were scaled down but work well functionally on the go, that would be enough to get another 10 million buyers, easily.
The problem is of course that these developers are not going to take a chance, so it's a chicken and egg situation, like with so many products.

Start with COD

Re: Review: Sonic Mania (Switch eShop)

MIDP

Best Sonic game ever, if not, then Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
But the bonus stuff definitely pushes it to its own level in my opinion.

Pick this up if you like video games, period.

Re: Poll: 99 Games and Counting - Are You Pleased With the Switch eShop Library?

MIDP

I got:

1. Sonic Mania
2. Mario Kart
3. NBA Playgrounds
4. PuyoPuyo Tetris
5. Astro Duel
6. Bomberman
7. Flip Wars (Haven't really played it yet)

Skipped:
Zelda - Because I know I would get addicted, so saving it for later

NBA
FIFA

Gotta say:
Brawlout and Hollow look very interesting.

Re: Review: NBA Playgrounds (Switch eShop)

MIDP

Worst review ever!

If you like basketball or NBA Jam, get this ASAP, it is easily one of my favourite Switch games, and the one I've spent most hours on, and that BEFORE the update!
Sure, it has some flaws, but it is an amazing game overall.

Re: Review: Hey! Pikmin (3DS)

MIDP

@Octane

The original multiplayer Zelda on the 3DS, Anniversary Edition of Four Swords was amazing though, easily my Top 3 Zelda games.

Re: Random: Here's The Reason Why The North American Super NES Looks So Different

MIDP

@Hikingguy
Yeah, I was referring to the Nintendo made consoles, but yeah, if you add other companies, than there's a bunch of other ugly consoles, I agree!
Sony has made a bunch of kind of ugly consoles I think.
As much as I love the original PS...outside of the nostalgia, it is not very pretty honestly, and PS3 is all over the place in my opinion.
All the Ataris are kind of ugly in my opinion, but that is not fair to all of them since some of them are so old...Atari 5200.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Super NES Classic Edition?

MIDP

Nintendo will keep demand artificially high so that they can go and (re-)release

The Nintendo Classics Edition: Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System

And then...

The Classic Nintendo Classic Edition Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System

And then...

The Classic Nintendo Classic Edition Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, The Limited Edition

and then...(Nope, not old just yet)

The Nintendo Classic Collection: Classic Nintendo Classic Edition Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, The Limited Edition

...whenever they need a quick buck.
Those Nintendo fans will eat it up as usual.

Now I can't wait to get my hands on the Nintendo Classic Collection: Classic Nintendo Classic Edition Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, The Limited Edition whenever that comes out!!!
