Re: Review: Kirby's Dream Course (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

Lobster

I spent a summer playing this and Super Mario RPG with a friend. I can't believe they messed up the two player controls. I don't even know how to play this game single player, though I was really very good back in the day when competing with my friend (when I wasn't goofing around). I have such fond memories that this was an insta-buy. Yet I don't think I have the skills anymore... And to find out they messed up two-player makes me very mad. I hope they release a fix, as @ShadowSniper7 said. In the meantime I guess I start from complete scratch instead of sharpening some very rusty skills. What a pain.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 Will Run At 60FPS

Lobster

I usually play with 3D off because I am extremely prone to migraines but when I do have it on, count me in among those who hasn't really noticed a frame rate drop on most games. Certainly not on anything first party. However, I'm glad to hear Zelda will be at 60fps. More games should be! Not that I guess it matters for poor blind ol' me. XD

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th May (North America)

Lobster

Thanks for letting me choose both Zeldas! I know I asked for that option in the PAL download for this week and I see you've put it here, so thanks! I feel like you guys really took my input (and others', of course) into account.

Re: 32GB White Wii U, Rechargeable Wii Remote Battery And 2550mAh GamePad Battery Announced

Lobster

Very excited for the battery stuff when it gets here. Hope nobody buys the Nintendoland bundle with the Wiimote thinking it'll play on their Wii, though. Is that a problem in Japan, or just over here? I swear nobody knows Nintendo has a new console out.

White Wii U Deluxe model is cool, but I prefer black. Too bad the shiny black picks up fingerprints and dust so well. Think they'll release a matte finish anytime soon?

Re: Rumour: Retro's Wii U Title Is An Entirely New IP

Lobster

There was nothing worth writing an article about in that video. That said, I enjoyed watching it and sat all the way through. Super Metroid is a fun game to watch! So... thanks for calling it to my attention, I guess? But it wasn't worth an article.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U vs Xbox One - Online Requirements and On-Disc DRM

Lobster

I don't share games around as much as I used to when my friends still lived nearby, but I do still buy used often. This is an expensive hobby for all and it's important to keep costs down. Nobody I know is getting that much richer and frankly a hit to the used and trade in market, not to mention simple lending or renting of games, could be a make or break issue for a console at this time. A decade ago when people had more money maybe it would have been different.

I'm one of those people who never trades in her games or consoles and subsequently I've built up a pretty impressive collection over the course of my life (I'm 25 now) but I know I'm the odd one out on that. Most of my friends trade in.

Re: Donkey Kong 64 Required Expansion Pak to Prevent Game-Breaking Bug

Lobster

I got my Expansion Pak with Majora's Mask, but I don't think they were wrong to advertise it this way. First of all, you aren't going to tell people, "Oh, it's full of bugs and glitches!" You are just going to say, "Requires Expansion Pak," which they did, and I believe they just let us fill in the reason why.

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th May (Europe)

Lobster

Why isn't there an option for "both Zelda games?" Can you make sure there is that option on the NA download this week at least? Because that's what I'm going to be selecting if it's available.

Re: Feature: A Brief History of Pokémon - Part One

Lobster

Oh, this article brought back so many memories! I was in fifth and sixth grade when Pokemania hit the US and all of this went down. You can see it in my yearbooks, which I still have somewhere. Fourth grade? Nothing. Fifth grade? Kids in Pokemon shirts. Sixth grade? There's a candid shot of me with a Pikachu toy on my shoulder!

I can't wait for the rest of the article, or articles if you are going to be doing them on gen at a time.

Re: Review: Bowling Bonanza 3D (3DS eShop)

Lobster

It's nice that they have local multiplayer with the Arcade mode, but then I immediately thought, "But why not with Knockout?" It would be a great idea to get a few friends together and see who could eliminate each other, I think. But then again, if the 3D is as eye straining as you say, it's probably for the best they don't have that!

Re: Microsoft: If You're Backwards Compatible, You're Really Backwards

Lobster

The reason I never bought a DSi is because it lost its GBA slot. Backwards compatibility is huge to me. It would be crippling if the Wii U could only play its current selection of games, for instance. You think we have a bad library now? At least we have access to everything on the Wii! Where would we be without that? I've never actually used Wii mode but I intend to, I just bought Xenoblade Chronicles earlier tonight, in fact. As for my 3DS, most games I play on that (from the slot) are actually DS games I either missed or that have come out since launch.

So yeah, I use backwards compatibility. I have all my life. Not including it is one of the stupidest things I can think of, even stupider than all the hoopla they are causing over used games.

Re: Review: Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (3DS)

Lobster

This is one of my favorite games right now. I also have the adorable yak plushie that came out with this game. I had to get it off eBay, though, because I downloaded the game off the eShop. Anyway, if you can get ahold of one of the plushies, they are incredibly soft and well made. Basically, even the outside promotional items for this game were above and beyond.

Re: Club Nintendo Refunds Coins To Wii U Owners Who Picked Up Super Metroid

Lobster

This is why I love Nintendo. Very classy move. Other companies wouldn't care. They do. It's just like the Ambassador Program, how they gave us tons of games then in compensation for the price drop. My friend was checking out my Ambassador 3DS the other night and she was really impressed. I had forgotten (!!!) how much awesome free stuff Nintendo gave me that year. Not just from Ambassador but also Excitebike, Four Swords, etc.

Take some time to appreciate Nintendo, my friends. They know how to treat their fans well.

Re: Feature: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Has Atrocious Fish Puns

Lobster

I have always loved the fish and bug puns! The best part of a new month is seeing what all the news puns are on all the new critters! Sadly the critters that are year-round are terrible, terrible abominations of humor that all need to die, even the ones that bring in tons of Bells. I see them SO OFTEN.

Re: Violent Video Games Blamed for Knife Attack in Scotland

Lobster

Why is the fact that he is already a father mentioned in this? It's an outside factor just designed to make him look bad. It's neither here nor there. The kid already looks bad enough. He doesn't need entirely unrelated dirty laundry aired all over the internet, Nintendo Life. Shame on you.

Re: Super Ubi Land Is Set For A Name Change

Lobster

I think it makes sense. When I first heard of it I did think Ubisoft was involved in some way and then thought, "Oh dear, I hope they don't get in trouble for that!" Seems they didn't, just a polite request which they heeded. Everybody seems to be handling this like adults.

Re: Review: ZombiU (Wii U)

Lobster

I just want to add I got my WiiU on launch day, so I have been waiting since then to pass judgement and have played a nice selection of games by now. Well, from what we have up to offer, anyway. And even outside the launch window, with other things to consider, ZombiU is still gold.

Re: Review: ZombiU (Wii U)

Lobster

Thanks to a friend who works at GameStop and the magic of multiple display copies and her ability to check one out overnight, I finally got a chance to play this. I really didn't think ZombiU would be my cup of tea - I hate horror movies and think zombies are very played out at this point. However, I seriously got into it and I think we both had a good time (it was her first chance to see a WiiU up close). I always said I'd have to try it before I committed to buying it and - I am so hooked!

I actually didn't find it that intense at first, thankfully, because I suck at games and freak out easily. We laughed at how easily I killed my first few zombies! I was basically stone cold WHATEVER DUDES. The graphic didn't impress me but the atmosphere did, and so did the sound. The Prepper was quite good and hearing moans, but not being sure exactly where they were coming from - instant classic.

I can't wait until I can buy a copy of my own. It really does deserve the 8/10 score given here. This is a game that will still be up there with the must haves for WiiU even at the end of its life cycle - and beyond. (That said, I hope it sells enough to get a few sequels, so they can fix the few issues it does have, and make an even better game.)

Re: Nintendo Confirms Yearly Net Profits, But Higher Than Expected Operating Losses

Lobster

Considering I invest in Nintendo, any report of profit is good news, but it's still disappointing as a lifetime fan to see them struggling. (Not that they are struggling too badly! But they are not doing as well as they'd hoped and that's always disappointing.) I'm glad they're back from reporting a loss, though! Still, there are surely myriad factors feeding into this.

I don't think they can swing nine million WiiUs this upcoming fiscal year. Not sure why but I just can't. Maybe eight.

Re: Video Gaming's Unexpected Critic Passes Away After Battle With Cancer

Lobster

I am so terribly sad. He was a real hero of mine.

We really missed out, btw. From his final blog post:
"In response to your repeated requests to bring back the TV show "At the Movies," I am launching a fundraising campaign via Kickstarter in the next couple of weeks. And gamers beware, I am even thinking about a movie version of a video game or mobile app. Once completed, you can engage me in debate on whether you think it is art."

Also from that same post:
"Thank you for going on this journey with me. I'll see you at the movies."

RIP, sir.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's New Year Resolutions

Lobster

I don't think we'll see a true "make or break" year for Nintendo for a long time (I would argue Sony is a lot closer to one), but 2013 is undoubtedly important. This is the chance to establish the Wii U as THE console to use as the standard build for third party games this gen. They have a year to figure out the new tech and how to use it to the fullest.

As for IPs other than Mario, I totally agree. I'm Mario'd out. I'm also still Zelda'd out, and I say this as someone whose most favorite franchise ever is Zelda. I hope they hold off until March 2014 to release whatever next game they're planning for Zelda. What I want to see are some neglected franchises. We know we'll get a Kirby and a Metroid and a Zelda. Probably more than one. Give us Wave Race or 1080 Snowboarding. Give us Star Fox and F-Zero (which I don't even like). Give us a console Kid Icarus. How about Ice Climbers? Duck Hunt? Urban Champion, even!
