I mean, at least the controls don't seem to be broken. But that's about all you can say in its defense.
The sad thing is, I'd be interested in this game - if it did more! (It would have to be a lot more with this as the starting point... At LEAST 100+ different images, different kinds of puzzle piece shapes besides the "traditional", that whole star system revamped, etc. Plus the ability to take and store pictures to use as new puzzles, and the ability to create your own puzzles and share them with a friend. At least all those things, and possibly more, and then I would buy a game with this premise.) I like rl jigsaw puzzles, after all. My biggest complaint with those is the space they take up and how easy it is to lose pieces.
GameBoy Pocket was my first Nintendo machine. I saved up and bought it myself when I was in fifth grade. I got the clear one because I liked to see the inside parts. Then someone stole it out of my coat pocket at school one day, while my coat was hanging in the back of the classroom. They left the cart that was in it, though. Pokemon Blue. I never figured that one out! Guess they just hated Pokemon!
I never did get a replacement, I just upgraded straight to Color. It might be nice to replace it one day, but not for $1200.
I know I'd miss the instruction booklets! Plus, even if you can just look stuff up online, sometimes I prefer having an actual, physical copy to look at. Useful during power outages, and easier on my eyes. Paper is easier to read than a screen.
It's my favorite game of all time, of course I'm getting it at launch. One question: do you think they've dropped the amount of Navi-nagging, or is it still going to be, "Hey, listen!" every four seconds?
I really want the patches but I'm 90 coins short (spent my coins on my glorious messenger bag), and they'll be sold out by the time I have them. Bah. Ebay, here I come!
sigh I just keep coming back to this game, wishing it was more than it was. This would have been an insta-download for me if there were any sort of support between DS carts. I have four of the five games for gen four, would have loved to be able to trade with myself.
You know, I came into this late. I was playing Kirby's Epic Yarn and thinking this would be a great way to spend 500 points. Then I read all of the comments.
Sonic's characters are superior to Nintendo's entire roster in many ways. Instead of looking shocked or sad when they want to convey emotion, they say how they feel.
And now I just have one thing to say. "You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!"
@slapshot82 I have no idea how a swimming game would work either! Perhaps we'll have to wait for the days of virtual reality... though weren't we promised in the 90s those days would be here by now? Heh heh. I think basically there are just some things that don't translate out of the real world very well! Hopefully disc golf won't end up being one of them and you'll get your game someday soon! I had no idea the sport was so complicated, sounds about as complex as regular golf from your description. If you get your awesome video game version, I will be sure to check it out as well, sounds like it could be pretty exciting.
@Raylax Hard to have a free roaming Hogwarts game when SPOILER Harry and Co don't go back to Hogwarts for their seventh year. END SPOILER
Anyway, I've always figured that Harry Potter is one of those franchises where we'll probably have to wait at least ten years for a faithful and excellent video game adaptation of the books. It's like Goldeneye or Ghostbusters, franchise games are only good when the stuff they're adapting hasn't been in theatres for a while so there's no rush for a tie-in and developers can take their time doing it right.
@slapshot82 - At least your sport has a game. I used to be a swimmer before I got sick. Can't think of any motion controlled swimming games. Though where you live sounds kind of cool. Here we have a par 3 course that "converts" itself to disc golf once a month. None of the other golf courses around here do that.
Interesting review, totally not worth ten bucks! XD (I've been amusing myself the past few days reading all WiiWare reviews that scored four or less. )
The only problem is I can't imagine paying more than 500 points for this, especially considering some of the wonderful 500 point games that do so much more than this. :/
I picked this up as my first hidden object game, since it was so cheap, just to see if I'd like the genre. In this case cheap definitely doesn't equal crap! Even though it's only 500 points, it's clear it was well-thought out and plenty of effort went into it. I think it's a port from the PC, but it's quite a good one!
Overall it's pretty easy, though it took me a while to realize that B dragged the screen around. Prior to that I was just zooming in and out. It was a discovery I was pleased to make, because it made the controls far more fluid. The minigames are especially easy. They 100% you every time (at least on Relaxed Mode) and even finish you up once you get close to finishing the task at hand. In fact, they are extremely forgiving and it's basically impossible to screw up, but this isn't a bad thing if you're buying this for younger or less experienced gamers. The game in general has a "for kids of all ages" feel to it.
It's never too hard to find everything. Each level starts you off with three hints and by picking up stars (one per yard sale) you can nab a few more. If you're stuck, you're never stuck for long.
I find the clown's circus to be incredibly effed up, though! (I actually think that was the vibe the designers were going for. shudder)
Anyway, overall it's a decent game at a bargain price with probably at least 3-5 hours of gameplay per mode (unless you're a truly seasoned item spotter, of course). Nothing is going to blow you out of the water on this one, but it's a sound purchase for the genre, and relatively enjoyable.
Basically, I agree with the review (which was excellent) and give this a 7/10.
This review was a big surprise for me, I didn't expect it to score high at all! Gotta admit, though, I love the art style. It reminds me of the old Humongous Entertainment games I used to play on the PC as a kid. Looks like this will be an eventual (but not an instant) download for me.
Bought this over a year and a half ago, finally got around to playing it. Initial impressions are that it's beautiful and innovative, fun to play around with, and incredibly atmospheric. It's really more like a $10 work of art, and definitely one of the soundest purchases on WiiWare - and by this time there's some pretty good stuff out there!
This reminds me of the old Humongous Entertainment art style. You know, Putt-Putt and Pajama Sam and Fatty Bear, etc. I think they actually had a game to introduce small children to the concept of airports.
@27 People like me who are impatient and whose DS's are in ratty old shape, about to break any second. Not that I bought one, but I've certainly thought about it, it's a long, cold four months until the 3DS to go without a handheld.
Anyway, WOW. I mean, on some level, it's not surprising considering all the red Wiis I know I saw being bought, but still. WOW.
Just picked this up as a birthday present (I'm 23 on Wednesday, wow!) and I am really, really looking forward to popping it in and playing, mostly thanks to this review. But I can't say I didn't have some doubts when I spotted a typo on the box ("...preform new moves!"). Oh, Sonic Team. You always find some way to fail! <3
I'm out of free plays on my laptop version of this, and to buy it for the computer actually costs twice as much as to download it for the Wii! Weird, seeing as it's (at most) a $5 game!

Re: Review: Goosebumps HorrorLand (Wii)
Whatever, Goosebumps game. Might as well make a Baby Sitter's Club game.
On the other hand, I would actually look forward to an Animorphs game.
Re: Features: Games That Should Already Be on Virtual Console
Oh man. If these games all came out I would just never leave my Wii. Ever. And I would have no money. But I wouldn't care.

Chicken Brutus, I died laughing. <3 Best Valentine's card ever!
Re: Review: Pucca's Kisses Game (WiiWare)
You know, this is just so extremely adorable and fresh and well put together that I might actually get it despite the (sort of) low score.

Where on Earth is the watching paint dry or watching grass grow sim? I cannot believe how cruel this world is.

Re: Review: Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time (WiiWare)
I hope you at least got video of the flying death wheel glitch, sounds like that was the highlight of your time and I'm sorry I missed it.

This sounds fantastic. Just plop the thing into my messenger bag with my books and go about my daily life around campus.
Re: Grab a Shiny Legendary Trio of Pokemon at Gamestop
Just found out only DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL work. My old POS DS from '04 was a no-go. Gonna have to borrow someone else's to get the Pokeymans.
Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd January 2011 (North America)
This is a meh day. Meh on this and meh on having to go back to school. At least I'm finishing up my major in ten weeks.
Re: Review: Around the World (WiiWare)
This looks like a crappy version of a talking globe with minigames the kids I used to babysit have.

Re: EA's Gardening Game on the 3DS Renamed and Rated
I might get it, but I'd most likely wait for a review.
Re: Nintendo Sold a Boatload of Hardware in November
@JakobG There's a ratio of 1 Wii sold per 10 Americans, so not quite, but close!
@Corbie I know I'm hoping to get one first day.
Anyway, congrats, Nintendo!

I think I'll throw a great big American-entitlement tantrum until we get them too!
Re: Review: Disney Epic Mickey (Wii)
Sounds like I should wait for the price to come down. I wanted this too much to never get it, though.
Re: Review: Racers' Islands: Crazy Racers (WiiWare)
I think the N64 had better graphics, judging from the screenshots... ugh.

Two VC games in one week? Aw man, we aren't going to see another one until February, are we? paranoid
Anyway, looking good this week!
Re: Fireplacing Gets WiiWare Hot, Hot, Hot from Tomorrow
I hope this is like fireplaces in the Sims, and nearby decorative objects can catch fire. That'd make it worth $5.

Ouch! I was expecting a five or a six!
Oh well, I want a white MotionPlus controller anyway, then I can just order another decal online and it'll match my others (and my Wii).

Re: Nintendo Shifts 1.5 Million Consoles During Black Friday Week
Also interesting, is that the 600K Wiis sold bring the US total to 31 million, or, as my dad pointed out to me, 10% of the population. Holy crap.

@Dodger I don't think it counts that you're "missing" the 3DS version, as it's, you know, not out yet?
Anyway, Animal Crossing is one of my all time favorite games. Glad I took a chance on it back in the day.
