Re: Talking Point: Wii U and Third-Party Inconsistencies Pose Questions for Console Owners

LeVideoGamer

The Wii U was never going to be enough, not just because of missing third party games, but because of the first party games that other companies can offer. There hasn't been a single generation where I could say that one console would do the trick, and I didn't expect this one to be any different.

Focusing on third party games though - unless they're exclusive games like Sonic Lost World, Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101 - I don't see myself buying anymore for the Wii U. For the majority of the games I'm interested in, if they're not botched ports, they're just completely ignored by the community. For example, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is a really good port, but nobody was ever online, and none of my friends play it on the Wii U. Because of that, I've switched the Wii U version for the PS3 counterpart. I understand that if everyone had this attitude, no games would be supported and the cycle would continue, but I don't have the patience to see if the situation changes. I am buying the PS4 for Sony's exclusives, but because I have friends ready to buy one, I'll also get my third party games for that system as I'll be guaranteed to have someone to play the games with.

Still, it's not at all disappointing to have the Wii U just for exclusive games. If you ask me, the type of first party games that Nintendo have to offer are the best in terms of quality. As long as Nintendo continue to provide exciting exclusive games, I'll continue to buy their consoles, with or without third party support. I bought the Wii U specifically for Super Smash Bros., so if I can also get the newest Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario and Pikmin games, as well as the potential F-Zero, Star Fox, Sin & Punishment, Wave Race and/or 1080 Snowboarding games, those are just more great reasons to own one. Yes, I want games like The Crew, Destiny, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, but if they're not as good as they should be on the Wii U, or if they're just not there at all, I'll look elsewhere.

Re: First Impressions: Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (3DS)

LeVideoGamer

It's a shame. I used to love Pac-Man, but they've just butchered his image for years on end. I played Championship Edition DX on the 360 and I thought that it might be the game to get him back on track, but it seems it wasn't. Almost every console game between Pac-Man Vs. and Pac-Man Championship Edition was lame, and it seems that the games following Championship Edition DX will be, too. Had this game actually been similar to the first two Pac-Man World games, I'd be very interested.

Re: Review: The Smurfs 2 (Wii U)

LeVideoGamer

@Gustaf89 Because with those older games, as with their remakes, it's evident that a lot of thought is put into level design, dialogue, soundtrack, etc. Most games made from movies these days don't have that attention to detail, and are obviously made to profit from a recent box office success. 4/10 shows we're not ganging up on it just because it's based on a movie, it's legitimately a bad game. It deserves to be called shovelware.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st August (Europe)

LeVideoGamer

@Rockman_Onion Just how easy do you think it is to get these games running? Maybe they should've focused their efforts on getting the sure-selling games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda out sooner, but you can't click your fingers and expect it to be finished. It's a small team with a lot of extra work to do.

Re: Feature: EarthBound Captivates Miiverse

LeVideoGamer

I just completed it this afternoon, and I must say, EarthBound is a truly special game. The game just nails everything; story, gameplay, music, art style, dialogue. I literally have no complaints about this game whatsoever. The only other game I can say that for is Xenoblade Chronicles.

Re: Talking Point: F-Zero GX HD Could Boost the Franchise onto Wii U

LeVideoGamer

I hate HD remakes but I'd buy this day 1. F-Zero, and Nintendo's more creative games in general, need to be supported.

Nintendo need to take more risks. I'm starting to get a little bored of their over-reliance on the Mario and Zelda universes, while they ignore a ton of interesting IP they've created over the years.

Re: Wii U And 3DS Developers Share Their Thoughts On Region Locking

LeVideoGamer

If Nintendo makes sure that most, if not all Wii U and 3DS games release in each territory, then they don't need to remove it IMO. There are certain games that would make no sense to release over here, but if there's noticeable demand, we should get it. As long as there is nothing similar to the Operation Rainfall situation, where we literally have to beg to get interesting games, I don't really mind.

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

LeVideoGamer

Expanding on this issue, I think it's time for Nintendo to ditch set prices for games. Not every NES game should be £3.49 and not every SNES game should be £5.49.

Prices should be altered after considering the length and quality of a game, and maybe they could charge extra for games that have to be localised. I would pay an extra £2 to get those Japan-only games like Panel de Pon, Fire Emblem, Nazo no Murasamejo, Mother 1+3, or Shin Megami Tensei. Shorter games, or games that are just terrible, should start from 99p. There's no problem with paying £6.99 for Earthbound, but maybe other prices should change, too.

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

LeVideoGamer

In Earthbound's case, I would have paid £40 for it. It's that amazing. £6.99 is a freaking steal.

People complaining that VC prices are too high need to get a grip. What were you expecting? Finding these games in their physical forms will cost you a hell of a lot more than the VC charges. You know how much Earthbound goes for these days? Upwards of $100. And you're complaining about spending $10.

You asked for Earthbound, you got Earthbound. Stop complaining about the slightly inflated price and buy the game you begged for, or it will never happen again. Simple.

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th July (Europe)

LeVideoGamer

Finally, Dream Land 3. That'll bring the VC total to 18 games.

I sure would like the games that Japan have, like Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man X. Maybe they could localize all of the Fire Emblem games for us, along with Panel de Pon.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Shaping Up To Acquire Troubled Atlus

LeVideoGamer

Well, I would think Nintendo are the closest company with Atlus. With Trauma Centre, Etrian Odyssey and Shin Megami Tensei recently, plus SMT X FE, Atlus might as well be a first-party developer.

Nintendo need more manpower, Atlus need financial security. It's a match made in heaven.

Re: 3DS UK Success in 2013 Offset by Abysmal Wii U Figures

LeVideoGamer

Well, what do you expect? Wii U has very little going for it, with next to no must-have games. Add in terrible marketing, the fact that very few people are aware of it, and the fact that they're content with their 360/PS3, they have no reason to upgrade.

And as a Londoner, I've seen that the majority of gamers here are only interested in guns, cars and sports. Hell, only 3 of my friends own Street Fighter IV, but all of them buy the new FIFA every year, all of them buy the yearly releases of Call of Duty and the new Battlefield games, and God knows they'll go crazy for GTA V. I have almost nobody to talk to about games like Xenoblade Chronicles, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, or The Last Story. The only reason half of them are taking notice of the Wii U now is because of Super Smash Bros. 4.

Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

LeVideoGamer

The retail games are not competitively priced at all, but even if they were, I'd be wary of buying them because of the small 32GB storage. I want to put off buying an external HDD for as long as possible, so for now, I'm only buying games from the eShop that aren't available in boxed form. The only exception may be New Super Luigi U, since it's a lot cheaper in the eShop. Even then, I might get the retail version just for the green box.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Optimistic About The Future of Wii U

LeVideoGamer

It'll probably be another 3DS situation. Poor start, but it'll be the cheapest 8th generation console out, and there will be some heavy hitting games coming out later in the year. I don't see Pikmin 3 being much of a system seller, but I think Sonic Lost World, Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U will shift consoles.

Re: Ghostlight Hatches A New Plot To Bring Devil Survivor 2 To Europe

LeVideoGamer

Even if they offer the DS game through their online website, I'll wait to see if there are any progressions with the 3DS remake. I'd much rather have the new additions that the 3DS version will get.

And if we don't get Break Record for the 3DS, I can always import the American version of the original, since the DS isn't region locked.

Re: Pikmin Hero Captain Olimar Joins The Smash Bros. Roster On Wii U And 3DS

LeVideoGamer

I do like Olimar, but I expected him to return so it's not that big a deal. I'm hoping that he will be able to use the new Rock and Winged Pikmin from Pikmin 3 in some way.

I'm hoping that all characters from Brawl return, except Toon Link, Lucario, R.O.B., Ike, Snake, Lucas, Wolf and Mr Game & Watch. I'd love it if they ditched Jigglypuff as well, but that's not gonna happen.

Re: Wii U Summer System Update Pushed Back To The Fall

LeVideoGamer

The update I downloaded today has made loading times noticeably faster. The SpotPass feature is nice, too.

The 'big' update, whenever it comes, should make loading times even shorter between applications. It needs to enable me to use my Nintendo Network ID on my Wii U and my 3DS, interact with Miiverse on both consoles, and link Virtual Console purchases. Virtual Console games should be housed under one channel on the home page, because with 13 VC games already, it won't be long before my entire menu is filled with retro games. It should enable an achievement system for those who want it. Cross-game chat is a must. I should be able to access my NNID on a friend's Wii U, and we should be able to be logged on at the same time. When a friend signs in, I should see that as a pop-up on screen, not just a blue light on the Gamepad. And for crying out loud, I should be able to use TVii!

Re: Nintendo "Feels Good" About How It Stacks Up Against Sony And Microsoft

LeVideoGamer

Create a Super Mario 3D World bundle with both SKU's for the price that they're currently retailing at, and you'll shift consoles. Drop the price of both SKU's by £50/$50 and you'll shift consoles.

The 3DS was revitalised by an increase in the quantity and quality of software, AND a price drop. I'll happily take 20 VC games for buying a Wii U at launch, so just drop the price like everyone wants you to.

Re: All Three Of Nintendo's Exclusive Sonic Titles Will Be Out In 2013

LeVideoGamer

If Sega are helping to develop it, I'll be fine if a few Sonic characters are in Mario Kart 8 - and by a few, I mean no more than Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman. None of this Amy or Big the Cat rubbish, unless it is specifically Mario vs. Sonic Kart, and even then I wouldn't want to see half of the Sonic characters in the game.

However, in the very slim chance that Sega are working on F-Zero again, which I would love, they'd better not force any of their characters into it.

Re: Microsoft To Announce Sequel To "Historic" Rare Franchise At E3

LeVideoGamer

It won't be Banjo, or else Grant Kirkhope wouldn't have said what he said on Game Grumps. It sure as hell won't be Blast Corps or Conker, because they won't sell. Viva Pinata and Kameo are in with a shot, but in my opinion, the three most likely IP's to arrive are Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, or Jet Force Gemini. Perfect Dark because it's a shooter, Killer Instinct because it's a fighting game aimed at older gamers, and Jet Force Gemini because it can be developed into an AAA sci-fi shooter, similar to Halo, that could have the potential to attract a lot of people if done properly.

Well, I suppose they could just disappoint people even further and announce the game as a Kinect Sports sequel.
