Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Service With Two More Titles

Knightrider1

@alexybubble True, they also get the odd extra game. I think that will be 2023, just wondering will it be first half or second?
I’ve said it before, but I find it crazy that they are going to release it, but didn’t get it together and release on the anniversary of the game, nor were they able to come to an agreement about getting the Xbox 360 remaster released, that would have made coin for both companies and the game is pretty much done

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Service With Two More Titles

Knightrider1

That is what I assumed, but it would seem odd to go Mario Party 1 and 2 and not follow it with 3, unless they skip December.
The Japan Direct said 2023 for Goldeneye - otherwise I would have assumed it would be 2022.
Obviously, things could change and maybe that is why the Japan Direct said 2023 and the others said 'Coming Soon'

Re: Overwatch 2 Player Calculates '5 Year' F2P Grind To Unlock New Hero's Cosmetics

Knightrider1

This is a difficult situation as I don’t totally hate the free-to-play model. However, if it is only cosmetic extras that are paid extras then I am OK with it. I don’t think a game should be pay-to-win.
I think as we move away from sequels to a more constant improvement via DLC and upgrades type models there needs to be continued investment. Maybe a $2 a week subscription model for all players would be better

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online Library With Pilotwings 64

Knightrider1

@Grumblevolcano The Goldeneye announcement is so strange if you ask me. The Japanese trailer mentioned 2023, and if we are waiting until after these games it could be mid 2023, so why announce the game so early? Why not release when it is being emulated? Why not just announce a release date?
Crazy to think they had the perfect day to launch it this year, being the 25th anniversary, and yet they somehow botched it.

Re: UK Charts: FIFA 23 Knocks Splatoon 3 Off The Top Spot

Knightrider1

@Yosher Yeah, especially if other companies can start using licensed players, kits etc.
I am a 90s kid and I remember there being so many different football games that had licensed names, some good and some bad but the competition pushed innovation
People are passionate about the sport and want to play as their favourite team and EA has basically exploited this love, first by buying exclusive rights and second their lack of effort.

Re: Rare On GoldenEye 007's Return: "We Just Kept Talking Until We Made It Happen"

Knightrider1

@nocdaes Agree. Imagine if they had announced and released the game at that moment.
Now, it is like the hype has come and gone a little.
It is not like they haven’t been planning this for like a year or more. I would have no idea why they might release it in 2023, unless it is the January N64 release and they are hoping they will get people buying Switch online over Xmas in preparation for it, but not sure that is likely.
Just an odd thing to say on Japanese video it is 2023 and others ‘Coming Soon’ as why change it, like that is a conscious choice that must have some meaning behind it

Re: Rare On GoldenEye 007's Return: "We Just Kept Talking Until We Made It Happen"

Knightrider1

@Pod I personally don’t think it should. That said, with the rumours the game was once in limbo and it was Nintendo holding back due to the war, it make me think the announcement with no defined date is a test on the public reaction- as the game does have Russia as the bad guys.
Also if things get worse they might change their mind
Like I said I think that would be a mistake and shouldn’t be any connection between the two.

Re: Rare On GoldenEye 007's Return: "We Just Kept Talking Until We Made It Happen"

Knightrider1

@Angelic_Lapras_King I wonder if that means Japan has to wait longer than other regions as I don’t get why you wouldn’t put that on other trailers, like someone had to deliberately type coming soon on one and then 2023 on another.
Personally, 2023 is too long. I fear this is Nintendo hoping things will change in terms of the current Russia situation and if it don’t they will pull the pin.
It interesting as the thumbnail on YouTube for the N64 games coming puts Goldeneye front and center and you would assume it is September’s release although that is doubtful

Re: Nightdive Studios Was Apparently "Close" To Reviving GoldenEye 007

Knightrider1

My gut feeling is now the Queen has been laid to rest, they will announce September’s N64 release at the end of the week… and I suspect it will be Goldeneye
The reason is it keeps it close to the anniversary date.
I think the ‘coming soon’ was put in place as they weren’t sure when Queen related things would be finalized so didn’t want to go ‘Out Monday’ only for it to fall on the same day. These things have to be edited ahead of time sometimes you have to use the placeholder in the live event

Oh, and unless a deal was done to prevent it, I reckon the remaster will come out later. Like get people hooked on the OG version and then go BAM! You like that, you should get this.

Re: More N64 Games Are Coming To The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack

Knightrider1

@somnambulance I’m thinking two possibilities: First they are waiting for after the Queen’s funeral to announce - we don’t even know what game N64 is releasing this month on the service. It works make sense for it to be Goldeneye as would be close enough to 25th anniversary and let’s not forget Nintendo paid to get the game unbanned in Germany a year prior to it happening in 2023. If the game was going to release then n 2023, why spend the money.
Second, they are going to wait 6 months,, that due to the war in Ukraine, they announced the game early to see public response. If they get backlash they pull the game, if not they have given the public time to react when released.

One last thing, I think the remaster Microsoft made will be released eventually. I think it is a good strategy to get the old game out for a year for free, then in 12 months release the updated one. Assuming the deal allows them to.

Re: Nintendo Direct Showcase Confirmed For Today

Knightrider1

@PeteW I held out hope for Goldeneye, but after the 25th of Aug and no mention that hope died.
I would love a Star Fox game, either a port of Wii version or a new one.
I hope after such a wait the show isn’t too Zelda focused as much as I like and play the games I don’t want the first proper direct in ages to be 35mins of Zelda

Re: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Scheduled Maintenance Spotted

Knightrider1

I can't recall when this was meant to be released, but I think it was pretty close to the start date of the Russian invasion, so I did understand.
While the war has obviously continued, I don't think there would be the backlash releasing the game now.
This and Goldeneye, which is also apparently held up due to the conflict, both could have been altered to distance it themselves from the conflict. Advanced wars could have the Red and Blue colour schemes changed, while Goldeneye could remove mention of Russia and call things 'Secret Enemy Base' type thing.
It reminds me of Top Gun Maverick how the enemy is never referred to by name.
Plus, war games have come out during war times, FPS have come out during times of gun control debate etc, so if wanting to wait for the perfect moment to release a game based on the world, well, you'll never get one.

Re: Gamescom 2022: Everything You Need To Know - Times, Dates, Games, And Announcements

Knightrider1

@RickRau5 True. I guess I would have liked a response from Nintendo now that the Steam Deck is out and various other portable PCs are hitting the market I feel now would be the time to show off why the Switch is THE console to own for the next 2 to 3 years.
Like I said, I get why they aren’t releasing a new console now with sales still good and chip prices etc, but I am a little underwhelmed and looking at those aforementioned portable devices with some envy

Re: Nightdive Apparently Has "A Few More" FPS Remasters On The Way

Knightrider1

They are showing Goldeneye, but if that remaster is in the works then I don’t think it’ll be these guys who do it.
Speaking of, it is August (well in New Zealand), so 25 days until Goldeneye’s 25th anniversary and in my opinion 25 days until we find out if the remake exists officially or was always a rumour.
Even if on hold because of the war, I don’t think if the game does exist they can ignore the date

Re: Xbox Remaster 'Toy Soldiers HD' Delayed For The Third Time On Switch

Knightrider1

@MitchaK That’s the game I was trying to remember. Thank you.
My point is, when you start really thinking about why is this game allowed and that isn’t things get a little morally debatable.
I.E. Some might some Advanced Wars is more realistic than Toy Soldiers, but then someone might argue why is there a game around war so kid friendly as to desensitize and make light of war.
So, that’s why if games based on war are banned due to real life conflict I think you have to ban them all as you can find a justification when you think hard enough

Re: Xbox Remaster 'Toy Soldiers HD' Delayed For The Third Time On Switch

Knightrider1

Strange how this war game can come out, with delays being technical, but Goldeneye and the other war game I can’t recall the name are delayed.
I feel like if going to delay games on the grounds on a real conflict then ALL games that show war should be delayed.
Is someone’s job going “Yeah, it shows war, but it does it in a fun way, so that’s ok. This game, it’s fun, but uses the colour red, so that’s a no”
Either make the stand or don’t.

Re: FIFA 23 Legacy Edition Will Have Women's Football, But No New Features

Knightrider1

What has been frustrating for about this whole situation is no one stepped up and provided an alternative.
I’m basically looking at Konami, before they went eFootball, in fact if they released a PES Legacy it would probably sell really well as the eFootball transition hasn’t started all that great.
EA could be lazy while there was no competition.

Re: Nintendo Reassures Fans "More" N64 Games Will Be Added To Switch Online

Knightrider1

Seeing as it is a classic and next month marks the game’s anniversary Goldeneye has to be next month’s release. I hope the recent rumours aren’t true - as I think it is a silly reason and we shouldn’t be connecting two completely unrelated things and I think you can get around it by altering the text to call them Janus Group all the time.
Other than that, Wave Race would be welcome and ISS Soccer.
I’d love a WWF No Mercy, heck I would take that game without the license attached just the game modes and gameplay.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Relaunch On Modern Consoles Reportedly 'In Limbo'

Knightrider1

Personally I will believe it exists or not on Aug 25, the actual 25 year anniversary of the OG title.
If nothing is announced on that date then it ain’t happening.
The war argument is silly for two reasons, as I am sure they could release and if there was backlash release a patch that swapped ‘Russians’ for Spectre or generic evil doers. Yeah, not what was in original, but a workaround.
The other reason is the game already exists not like this is new it is out there already.
