Big fan of this series and eagerly awaiting for this game's release. I'm just sad that it won't have many players to play it. Just look at how fast the online scene for Groove of War died... : (

I'm hoping they've been making good use of that extra time. That delay that came before the war broke out had me wondering if this may be a little shaky at launch with performance or something. The real question is: are they really going to wait until the war is over to release it?

I can't recall when this was meant to be released, but I think it was pretty close to the start date of the Russian invasion, so I did understand.
While the war has obviously continued, I don't think there would be the backlash releasing the game now.
This and Goldeneye, which is also apparently held up due to the conflict, both could have been altered to distance it themselves from the conflict. Advanced wars could have the Red and Blue colour schemes changed, while Goldeneye could remove mention of Russia and call things 'Secret Enemy Base' type thing.
It reminds me of Top Gun Maverick how the enemy is never referred to by name.
Plus, war games have come out during war times, FPS have come out during times of gun control debate etc, so if wanting to wait for the perfect moment to release a game based on the world, well, you'll never get one.

Unless there's no general Direct in September (which there's a very real possibility given how Nintendo approached this summer so far), this would suggest a late September/early October release. A November or later release would be announced in a general Direct (plenty of times Nintendo's announced games which release 2 months later).

This has just been ridiculous. There are always wars around the world. Of course I care. But these conflicts have literally nothing to do with video games. We've been waiting too long for this release. Please just release it!Thank you.

I understand the reasons for Nintendo and the context, doesn't mean I agree with them. But its obvious that in this day and age it would had a big backlash in social media, as this generation tend to make a huge mess out of the smallest things. I understand Nintendo on this one and I'm the biggest Advance Wars fan.

I've been waiting ages for a new game in the series... a bit disappointed its a remake from the first two games... but as long as this gives an opportunity for a comeback... I'm all in for it ... I just can wait until there's a better release date.

I can't imagine more people would have been offended by releasing this game on time; than those annoyed/disappointed/put out by this delay and I frankly don't care about people being offended over everything these days. Yes I'm being hyperbolic but still.

@SwitchVogel It doesn't seem likely that they did anything to the game in the mean time, other than possibly censor it in some way. The game was finished and some digital copies even got out at the original launch time. They delayed it to finish, anyway. You shouldn't have less confidence when Nintendo delays a game, you should have more. This isn't a Cyberpunk or Anthem situation.

Please release it already, Nintendo. There isn't a single first-party game through the end of 2022 that I personally am interested in, and I was really looking forward to Advance Wars: Reboot Camp before it got pulled just days before its originally planned release.

At this rate, Metroid Prime 4 will beat it to market.

Im personally sceptical about that rumored February 24 2023 release because that is 1 year on the day Russia invaded Ukraine and that is the reason the game isn't on store shelves

@CharlieGirl I'm genuinely curious as to what games you mean. This year seems to have been very lean on releases and I can't think of anything on the radar for the second half.

I really don't understand how there are still people unsure why Nintendo didn't release their light-hearted and fluffy take on a situation where a parody of Russia suddenly invaded another country sparking a huge war, during the period where Russia suddenly invaded another country starting a huge war.

Yeah we all want this game, I had it pre-ordered since the day they opened. But come on, it's getting a bit beyond wilful ignorance now. Have some respect please.

Regardless of whether or not it should have been released as scheduled, I think they can do with finally releasing it. At least before the end of the year. They can't keep postponing it for the war or it won't come out for a good while still.

@Arawn93 triangle strategy launched like a week later so it would have been very hard to cancel it and likely a fruitless endeavour as the game would have gotten out anyway. Plus triangle strategy doesn’t open with the Russian stand in forcefully taking over another country with military weapons

This war is not going to end this year, nor in 2023, now it's quite obvious. No point in delaying it further

Nintendo... has proven to me that they have a very passive-aggressive way of calling out leaders on world issues, yet I think it's much more commendable than coming out and saying it through a PR statement. Nintendo has acknowledged the war in Ukraine, COVID-19, and most recently they stood up against the Japanese government with Splatoon 3 and their same-sex relationship policy. They don't fire shots or start protests or get super defensive by using censorship. They just prove it.

As much as I think this game isn't a big enough deal to be delayed, I think Nintendo has taken a lot of consideration in the past months in regards to their PR situation. They can be anti-consumer, but they are also anti-conflict.

This game was top of my Christmas list, but now it's not even in my top ten.

I don't really understand Nintendo's logic, but since they made this decision they have to stick to it until they can justify why the time is now right.

Nintendo should stop trying to please minorities, it turns to political.

I'm still sad to see people not knowing why this game was delayed, thinking a war near Europa with the invador Russia parodied in Advance Wars is not a big deal for Nintendo's reputation.

I almost wonder if there's going to be extra bonus content that wasn't originally planned now, given how much time has passed since the original delay. Imagine if, after you beat both games, you unlock an extra remake of the original Famicom Wars or something. Something like that would make the delay worth it, at least in my mind.

We had 20 years worth of videogames about wars/conflicts in the middle east DURING a war in the MIDDLE EAST and nobody gave a crap.

If almost all of those answers are no, well, you can understand where Nintendo’s stand is.

@Grumblevolcano ND in September after Splatoon 3 seems like a must to me. I think the Switch's next big game after that is Bayonetta 3 so a 7 week window. BotW 2 is supposed to be 2023 and I feel like we haven't seen much of that, got to get those pre-orders rolling. Plus whatever else is coming next year. Maybe we finally get the Players Choice/Select line 6 years after launch. Who's paying $60 for Splatoon 2 after Splatoon 3 releases? And BotW could use a price cut to at least make the "complete edition" $60 ahead of 2.

Probably too soon for Switch 2 news but I feel pretty good about a full real ND in mid to late September, they need to announce MK8 Switch bundles for Black Friday for the 3rd, or 4th, time.

September general Directs generally cover September - March so a Partner Showcase could solve the 3rd party side, Bayonetta 3 could get its own Direct like Bayonetta 2 did, TPC does their own thing so Scarlet/Violet would be twitter drops up to launch and any unannounced 1st party stuff for that window could be twitter drops. Then a big general Direct in January/February.

I think it all comes down to when in Spring BotW 2 releases.

On Nintendo Switch I wanna only 2 games: Mario + Rabbids 2 and Advance Wars 1+2.

I don´t like Zelda games, Bayonetta kind of game, Pokemon games and i won´t buy Splatoon 3 (no offline battle against bots = no replay value for me....because i won´t renew NSO...).

So...till the end of this year...only Mario + Rabbids 2.....and maybe....the new Taiko no Tatsujin only.

For a moment I got excited and throught I'd missed the launch. I'd enjoy that game right now.

Well the hype for this game was all but destroy when Nintendo choose to delay it for the second time. Also with other tactical games coming out soon (DioField Chronicle, Tactics Ogre Reborn, Metal Slug Tactics, Front Mission 1st & 2nd, Marvel's Midnight Sun, etc.), almost everyone had move on from this.

@YoshiF2 Back in the late 90's/early 00's, Red Alert 1, 2 (plus its DLC, Yuri's Revenge) and at least one other Command & Conquer game featured stereotypical Russians as the antagonist. We weren't too far removed from the Soviet Union and the general "what if" scenario was still China and Russia being the enemies of the world. I don't remember anyone caring back then, least not to the point where anyone in control actually cared, lol.

Really wish this helicopter generation would move on and realize there are more important things in life than possibly offending someone. Everyone has to walk on egg shells today and it's a pain in the ass.

Considering it's a sequel that started as DLC to a now 5+ yo old game you would think they could have it ready by March to boost those year end sales number up until March 31st, but June wouldn't surprise me since they can't even get this 2 pack of ports out.

They haven't had a real Direct since February.
2021 was a slow covid year and they still had 3 last year.
Feels like they need 1 this fall. Bayo 3 could still get a mini if they want but they need a full Direct to get people in a buying mood for the holiday and excited for next year as Switch gets long in the tooth. This year was epic for Switch, maybe the best yet including the release year, but they need more for next year besides BotW2. What I don't know, which is kind of why I think they need this Direct.

Even so, I'm not so sure that edit was entirely necessary because it wasn't the Russians who took out the twin towers and yes, it may be painful to a small minority of Americans who were directly affected, but that was a fantasy setting showing Russians were going against Americans and wanted to attack the nation directly. That's advertising plot and is arguably integral to sales.

Moving on from mourning and the past is a natural stage of grief and also healthy. If everyone attempted to make sure we never offended anyone, people would be artificially sensitized to everything and have nothing but stress (or if they're not stressed but still complain, they're either selfish and malicious or are trying to speak for people they don't relate to (i.e. acting like Karens/Chads)).

History has shown that when given the chance, the masses will complain for the sake of having something to do and all this censorship is feeding into that.

They are the trash vocal minority that is offended by everything and would have wrote a very clickbaity article about advance wars and the blue moon invasion, even though they SHOULD know better because they're "gamers" and someone at some point should have played the GBA original.

@Kilroy I agree... sometimes it gets ridiculous. Me pointing out this stuff doesn't mean I agree with AW being delayed. It's just that I try to analyze the context and the reasons why this game specifically was delayed. I understand, I partially agree, but I understand.
And having played these games before and being a huge AW fan, I can see why Nintendo is waiting for the public opinion to calm down to see what to do with it.
It's exactly the same as Warner Bros / DC with Ezra Miller and the Flash ...... they won't say what they're going to do with the movie until the dust settles with the actor and the public opinion.
That's the closest example I can think of.

They'll release the game eventually. It being a remake makes the waiting bearable since I already played those games before.

It seems we've run out of sympathy. A very stark contrast to what people were saying when the delay was first announced. Go back to the original match article and check the comments there...it seems now that we've felt a bit of a pinch ourselves empathy is in much shorter supply.

If you can't release this game because there's a war in real life happening, then this game can never be released.

Ironically I only want this to be released so we can get a remake of Dual Strike quickly after.
It doesn't look like I'll get my wish anytime soon though.

Not releasing a cartoon war game just because a new war happened in a part of the world makes no sense. No video game company has ever had a problem releasing the tons of realistic war games over the years despite wars going on all the time.

They should have just released it on schedule. Hopefully they'll schedule a release date soon because it makes no sense to continue to hold it off.

Personally I don't care what games do or don't release during times of war. I was just making commentary about how people are being a lot more vocal about wanting the game now than they were a few months ago. In fact the original article mentioning the delay wound up having its comment section locked once people started making comments like the one I'm seeing here. Now it looks like public opinion has completely flipped and it almost feels like this was all just another TikTok trend that everyone has gotten over.

@Tangerine Well said, I'm tired of people reaching and grasping straws to state what they consider to be obvious, when the only obvious thing is how this is video game with no real grounding in reality with fictional characters and nations. Any attempt to relate it to anything going on in the world is entirely on the people making such comparisons, and the entire situation shows off how easily people can justify anything if they perform the necessary mental gymnastics.

...and you know what? I share your feelings on how I am at the point where I couldn't care less about how offended or outraged these people are by anything anymore. @ATaco Well that's the nature of our modern day political outrage culture, it's always just people jumping on the latest trendy thing to be upset over, and naturally it's an extremely fickle crowd who is quick to move on to the next popular thing to be upset over.

Surprise surprise, the kinda people who were quick to defend this delay for a dopamine hit on social media are quick to give up their crusade against this game's release as soon as social media told them to get upset at something else for whatever reason.

Giving in to this crowd is always a bad idea, and it's no surprise how people who actually had a genuine interest in the game are getting more vocal about the whole situation, as they're the only people who truly cared the entire time.

It's easy to say "eliminate this thing other people care about" when you have no attachment or appreciation for that thing. The details on why it needs to be eliminated don't matter when you never had any reason to care about it in the first place.

I guess at the end of the day I just don't see how not releasing a finished game helps anybody. There are certainly Ukrainian fighters that have switches that want to play this in their down time. What about respecting those peoples wishes? It's a two way street.

@Thief Fact is this delay never needed to happen. It was completely unnecessary. There are realistic FPS war games that actually have Russia in their games, featuring a plot line where Russia invades someone for whatever reason, and they never pulled them from sale. Heck a new Call of Duty Modern Warfare game is going to drop soon, something that is far more realistic and far closer to the war in Ukraine going on right now, and they have no plans to delay or cancel it's launch.

I don't think delaying a cartoony turn based strategy game forever is going to in any way benefit the war effort, nor is anybody going to care about the continued delay besides the people who are fans of the series who simply want to play it. I also doubt that Ukrainians are going to get outraged about this game releasing, or would even care to acknowledge that, because they got far more important things to worry about. In fact just about everyone has completely forgotten about this game besides the fans and the few people such as yourself who crawl out of the woodwork to defend this game being delayed forever, as you attempt to shame anyone who simply wants to play a video game because politics.

@JayJ @BenAV The game literally has a part where a faction that is heavily influenced off of Soviet Russia is invading another area - eerily similar to what was going on right now in Ukraine and something you're either intentionally ignoring or simply never knew because you didn't play the original game. Had Nintendo released Reboot Camp in April, it would have drawn major criticisms for those similarities and any chance they would have to successfully reboot this IP would have died then and there. At least this way they can prevent that from happening, iron out any bugs still left in the game, possibly add even more content, and have a better shot of getting more entries in the future. It's absurd that anyone is getting upset over this since the game isn't canceled and there are plenty of other titles you can play in the meantime.

Every one of the sober "there's always a war somewhere" comments here, while correct, would have gotten blasted, downvoted, moderated, and possibly banned if it was made in February of 2022. Tension was very high in all realms of commerce and media in that moment, even if it was performative or self-serving. Politicians in my area managed to get vodka pulled from the shelves of liquor stores to punish Russia. Vodka!!

So Nintendo read the room, is what I'm saying. Now it's a tricky matter of fitting the game into a release schedule somewhere such that they still maximize its sales. I won't pretend to know what the best time for it is.

When things don't make sense, they get called out for not making sense. Seems like we're at this point where people keep doubling down on defending this kinda thing, regardless of how pointless it's been proven to be, out of pride or something. I'm just at the point where it's like I couldn't care less about your personal problems with this whole situation, I just want to play a video game and not have to hear about people moaning about politics and wars like that should always have an impact on what video games I should be allowed to play.
