@Kevin: Little Nemo was a terrific game; it'd be great to see it get some brand new attention on the VC. I feel bad for anyone who wasn't alive to experience that platformer when it was first released, to be honest. Quite the magic little platformer from Capcom.
@KnucklesSonic8: I'm definitely hopeful that one of next week's titles is the third Art Style game. I'm having way too much fun with the first two and can't wait to see how the next turns out.
Hell yes, Tetris Party! I'm gonna' burn a hole in my widescreen TV with all the time I put into the new Mega Man 9 content, Gradius II, and multiplayer Tetris bashes. Ridiculous, Nintendo. And to think just a few months ago, we were beginning to wonder if ANY great games would be coming out on the VC and WiiWare. Now I can't stop spending money on all the greatness being thrown our way!
Gradius II, at last! WOOT! Been looking forward to playing this for a long time and I'm stoked to download it this morning and give my shmup skills (or lack there-of, rather) a good run. Not at all interested in Digital Champ, but I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on Tetris Party. Looks to be like an all-around great time.
Along with its spirit-brother Cubello, Orbient is one of the most strangely addictive, immersively simple experiences available for the Wii. Easy to start up, hard to shut off, it is gaming at its simplest and most addictively effective.
The game is definitely not better than Super Mario Galaxy or even Mega Man 9, in my estimation. That being said, World of Goo is still one of the most impressive Wii games to date and certainly already ranks amongst the Top 10 best Wii-exclusive titles. Of course, the farther I get into the game and the more I fall in love with its mechanics... my currently-stated opinion is certainly liable to change. ^_~
This is one freakin' rock-solid solo puzzler. Yet another incredibly pleasant Wiiware, Art Style surprise that manages to be a much deeper experience than the surface lets on. "Just one more level" sums this game up perfectly, as Alex stated in his review; I can't put my Wiimote down. The robot voice never gets annoying, the simplicity of the gameplay really opens the longevity of the experience wide open and keeps the player striving for faster times and fewer block usage, the music has a nice, ambient drive to it and the overall atmosphere of the game is just... enjoyable. It's gaming at its most basic and most engaging.
Mega Man 7 was a definite step down from Mega Man 6. At least MM6 gave us some fun, new power suit upgrades and a slew of great levels to romp through. Mega Man 7 featured a lousy sprite update for Mega Man himself and a slew of enjoyable-but-tired level design. We won't even speak of Mega Man 8 which took the awful Mega Man sprite/tired level design to an even lower level of tedium. Mega Man 7 isn't a bad game, but it is in no way better than any of the original six NES games.
Played through several levels and, thus far, I'm greatly enjoying this game. Clever, simple, deep and addictive puzzler. I find myself compelled to beat one level just to see what sort of crazy shape I have to disassemble in the next round. Much like Orbient, this is gameplay at its simplest but most effective. And at $6, it's a sure-fire steal. I'd definitely recommend puzzler fans give this a whirl. It's a definite winner.
I quite agree with President Maegawa. Buy 'Dynamite Headdy', folks! It is a woefully underlooked and terrifically crafted platformer. Loads of fun and one of the Genesis' best games.
Great to see Orbient getting some well-deserved love! It's a terrific title and certainly the coolest two-button game ever. Also great to see Bomberman Blast right up there behind Mega Man 9. Blast is another great game; the 8-player online explosion-fests are fantastically wild. Also happy to see Mega Man 9 holding its place at #1. It deserves it in spades! Fabulous, fabulous game. Playing as Proto Man is hard... and whoever is in the top 10 for the Endless Stage clearly have no lives whatsoever. Seriously? Over 1000 screens? Go outside for a change!
I am stoked beyond words that we finally got Shining Force II. I will gladly accept Gradius II being delayed a bit if it means having this timeless strategy masterpiece available on the VC at long last. It is certainly the best game in the short-lived series and is as damn near close to perfection as strategy gaming reached until Final Fantasy Tactics hit the market years later. Instant download for me and should be for all RPG/Strategy fans as well.
Woohoo! With the European release of Shining Force II, I certainly hope that means it's hitting U.S. VC shores soon! Definitely my favorite game of the series and one I've been greatly anticipating seeing on the Virtual Console for a long time now. As for Gradius II hitting our VC on Monday, I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
I'm one of the weirdos who never cared about having to swap games around (it doesn't take THAT long... good grief, you impatient gamers) but this will certainly be an incredibly nice feature to have. SD cards are cheap and hold tons of games... my 1GB card has almost a hundred games on it, so I can only imagine what it's going to be like with a 4GB card plugged into my Wii to play my collection off of. Looking forward to this update a lot.
Love the potential this has with the DS Virtual Console but I think I'll stick with my wonderful little DS Lite for the time being and foreseeable future. It can do me no wrong and I buy all the GBA titles I actually care about in cart form, so I prefer to have the ability to play my GBA games on my DS.
Bring on the enhanced difficulty modes. Once I've got the game down as is (as has always been the case with other Mega Man games: Fail, fail fail, fail fail... ooooo! got it, domination), I'll welcome the added challenge of two further difficulty modes. Not to mention those two extra stages! Both of them sound fantastic! Bring on the goodness!
Holy. Crap. This game is much, much, MUCH harder than even I could have imagined. Take the difficulty of the original Mega Man and ramp that up about five notches. This is not a game for the faint of gaming heart, but then again every die-hard Mega Man fan should know that by now. As for you younglings out there... get ready to learn what throwing your controller in fierce, 8-bit rage is all about. You will die. You will die a LOT. And get a load of the Challenges! Most of them are absolutely terrifying in their difficulty!
I'm giddy with excitement to get my metaphorical paws on Mega Man 9! I don't know whether to stay up the extra couple hours to get a tease of it before I go to bed (being a night worker and all) or go to bed, wake up early, and dig into the game until I must resignedly abandon it for crumby old work. After nearly 15 years since the last 8-bit Mega Man... another entry has finally arrived to show all you current gen noobs what a truly challenging game is really all about. Separating the men from the boys, for sure. To quote IGN's Colin Mariarty: "Mega Man 9 harkens back to a time when games were actually hard." I can't freakin' wait to play this game. Old school is still the best school, baby.
Mega Man 2 is one of the greatest games of all time, bar none. I've played through it dozens of times throughout my life and can't wait to play it dozens more on my 42" widescreen television now. Capcom just nailed it with this game; a truly quality game that just keeps on giving and giving and giving.
Holy crap! Thanks, Nintendo, for three straights weeks of FANTASTIC releases. I cannot wait to get home and download SMRPG! Oh, how I have missed playing it... and how I look forward to enjoying it on my 42" widescreen television. Awesome, awesome release, Nintendo!
I'm more than willing to shell out ten bones for what looks to be a stellar return-to-form for the Mega Man series. Sure beats the pants off paying $35 for yet another iteration of the been-here, done-that, increasingly lame-brained Network series. Besides, as Darren already pointed out, I can fondly remember the days of shelling out forty bucks A POP for the first six Mega Man games. Giving Capcom their due for listening to their fans and giving us what we want with this 8-bit retro revisit is more than justifiable. The downloadable content is a very powerful incentive to not scoff at the pricing either... sounds like like icing on an already scrumptuous cake.
If this new title gets as much replay value from me as the first six games still do... it'll be worth its sweet weight in a measly ten buckaroos. And THEN some.
Seventh heaven doesn't even begin to describe those precious twenty seconds. Mega Man 9 looks, sounds, and seemingly plays precisely like the original games. I like the cool new spinny platform too; looks like they've added some new twists to the old formula whilst keeping the tone of the overall platforming and enemies very in tune with the first six games.
This has all the potential to be the greatest WiiWare release of the year... not to mention one of the best releases exclusively on the Wii out of the entire year.
I'm growing more excited to play this by the second.
Yes, please! And then if you would be so kind, Capcom, please follow said releases up with third, fourth, fifth, and sixth installments of the NES Mega Man franchise. How awesome would it be to have all six 8-bit classics plus the brand new game on my Wii, you ask?
Have downladed the game and am loving it. For those of you worried about the funky forward-pointing Wiimote controls, have no fear. Holding the Wiimote sideways and tipping it up and down is not only more effective but completely free of any akward wrist movements. Quite a fluid control scheme; I've had absolutely no problems with it. The Quest system alone makes this game worth it. Fun for those who are looking for something quick and easy or for those who want their Magnetica hardcore and frantically challenging.
I can't imagine this game NOT coming to US WiiWare. A platformer of this artistic beauty and classic platforming design is precisely what WW is all about.
Gyrostarr is a decent single player experience (playing through a couple levels each day is quite enjoyable), but it's the multiplayer where this game really shines. It's pure pandemonium in some of the later levels with two players, let alone FOUR. Plus, you get to duke it out for score to see who has ace shooting bragging rights.
Not a great game, but a good one. By no means unenjoyable, especially with a pack of gaming buddies.
I like the look of this and the controls sound right up my alley. Not as pretty as Zuma but, hey, it's the gameplay that really matters and it looks like Nintendo got it right.
First of all, you naysayers griping about old-school gamers like myself being overcome by our "nostalgia" and refusing to see the flaws of the old Mega Man games and of an "antiquated" gaming system... are idiots. Have you even PLAYED the original Mega Man games? They are inarguable masterpieces of their genre and have been inspirations to COUNTLESS game designers.
Anyone who isn't excited about the release of a brand-new, 8-bit styled, classic platforming Mega Man game has clearly lost all capacity to love life and have fun with games. Hopefully this game puts WiiWare on the map as THE arcade to beat. 360LiveArcade won't have squat on an all-new, retro Mega Man game.
Is my nostalgia a powerful factor here? Absolutely. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely NOT; especially when the original games are as fantastic as they are and the team who made the first three X games is on task here. I'm expecting great things out of them from this game but if it does indeed meet those standards (and those of the first six games)... then I'm going to be replaying this game as many countless times as the NES classics.
Bring on Shining Force II, baby! I've been waiting on that one to get its stateside release for months. Truly amongst the Top 5 greatest strategy RPGs of all time.
Secret of Evermore kicked all kinds of ass and was a sorely underrated and underappreciated SNES title... still is, come to think of it. I loved the quirky, nostalgic atmosphere of it all, the excellent alchemy system, and memorably atmospheric Jeremy Soule score. I still have my original box, manual and cartridge of this game and quite proudly so. If it came to the VC, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat.
I'm one of the three people in this world who inexplicably adore Evermore.
This game is in no way overrated as some have suggested. It's far better, in fact, than most current RPGs being pumped onto the market. I cannot wait to purchase this game as soon as its available on the VC! Thank you much, Squenix! Now, please, we want more: Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, Soul Blazer, Seiken Densetsu 3 (never got a stateside release; perfect for an import release title if they get a competent translation), Final Fantasy IV-VI, Chrono Trigger...
Don't leave your Nintendo fans out in the cold, Square. We adored your games back in the days of the SNES; what better way to repay us than by giving out a legitimate way of playing them today and introducing a whole new generation of gamers to the greatness of the aforementioned games!
Pretty sure I'm the only one who really doesn't have any problem with swapping stuff back and forth between my Wii hard drive and SD card. Seriously, it doesn't take THAT long. Besides, I can have dozens of NES/SNES/Genesis/TG-16/N64 games on my Wii hard drive at the same time; plenty to keep me busy for a good, long time. And I can always swap the one(s) I'm done with for a few others every once in a while. It works out perfectly for me. Having page after page after page after page after page of game on my Wii menu would just get dizzying.
Seriously... the only bitching I'm hearing is coming from people who just want to be able to have a hundred games on their Wii because they're too damn lazy to take a whopping twenty seconds out of their day to transfer it over from their SD card.
Yeesh. Stop griping about having to fit a few dozen less games on your main menu and get back to ENJOYING the games, folks.
Unbelievably awesome update of a classic game. The online play is smooth and excellent, the new Flash and Virus Buster options are a lot of fun (Virus Buster with four players is absolute chaos to coordinate) and the good ol' Classic style of Dr. Mario gameplay is just as addictive as ever. This game is going to get a looooooooooot of mileage on my Wii's clock.
Took my Wii to my parents' house on my recent vacation and we had a whale of a good time playing tournaments of this game. It's nothing terribly deep yet the gameplay is still quite good and rather addictive. For $5, it's a terrific party game.
Fun game. Not anything earth-shattering, but a passable $10 shooter with some fun Geometries Wars-esque gameplay. Nice levels, too; very retro, sci-fi/military throw-arounds.
Woohoooooo! I can only hope this means that Super Mario RPG is on its way stateside soon! I will not hesitate to download that awesome title when/if it hits the VC here in the US.
I would snatch all three of those games up in a heartbeat if they ever appeared on the VC! Marvelous games, all three of them; Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma in particular. The former is a great whimsical fantasy romp with some great story material while the latter is a flat-out, jaw-droppingly awesome fantasy adventure, chock full of playtime, gorgeous environs, great dungeons and a terrific storyline.
Please, Square-Enix! These games MUST see the light of day on the VC! You have no idea how many grateful fans you'll have the day these three games make their way to the VC. Please don't rob us of these and other great Square/Enix SNES games! We beg of you!
I've never been a fan of the Castlevania series... I simply don't get the appeal at all. Thus, I can't say as I'm too jealous of Japan getting Dracula X. Metal Slug is fun, but certainly not worth getting jealous about; besides... Metal Slug Anthology, anyone?
Am I also the only one who's getting really fed up at people whining about getting two games instead of three or four? Screw that, I'm fed up with the whining in general. The VC has over twice the content of the 360 Live Arcade and we always get another couple games on top of the current roster each week. Not to mention we have WiiWare on the way! Give Nintendo the time it needs to give us the gold; they'll... get... there. I swear people have no patience anymore. Used to be I had to wait months or even years to see these games released back in the days of the NES and SNES. I think you gripers can afford to wait a few months yourselves. Find another way to fill your time rather then whining about how your favorite game isn't on the VC yet.
I'm really dying to see Shining Force II and Kirby's Dream Land 3 get their releases on the VC, but... I gotta' say that I'm actually glad nothing in the past month has interested me enough to download. Smash Bros. Brawl is all too amazing and is the precise opposite of "blows."

Don't leave your Nintendo fans out in the cold, Square. We adored your games back in the days of the SNES; what better way to repay us than by giving out a legitimate way of playing them today and introducing a whole new generation of gamers to the greatness of the aforementioned games!
Re: Only Geeks And Otaku Want Extra Storage On The Wii
Re: Review: Toki Tori
Buy. This. Game. Now.
Especially if you love puzzler platformers. All kinds of fun to be had here! I'm immensely pleased with how this game turned out.
Re: Review: Dr. Mario Online RX
Re: Review: Family Table Tennis
Took my Wii to my parents' house on my recent vacation and we had a whale of a good time playing tournaments of this game. It's nothing terribly deep yet the gameplay is still quite good and rather addictive. For $5, it's a terrific party game.
Re: Protöthea
Fun game. Not anything earth-shattering, but a passable $10 shooter with some fun Geometries Wars-esque gameplay. Nice levels, too; very retro, sci-fi/military throw-arounds.
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - June 2008 (Super Mario RPG!)
Woohoooooo! I can only hope this means that Super Mario RPG is on its way stateside soon! I will not hesitate to download that awesome title when/if it hits the VC here in the US.
Re: Soul Blazer – The Virtual Console Release That Never Was?
Re: Three Interplay-Owned Franchises Coming to VC
I'd happily download the Earthworm Jim games...
If they would actually bother to give us the far superior SNES versions.
Re: Japan To Get Dracula X And Metal Slug Next Tuesday
Re: US VC Releases - 14th April - Mega Turrican
I'm really dying to see Shining Force II and Kirby's Dream Land 3 get their releases on the VC, but... I gotta' say that I'm actually glad nothing in the past month has interested me enough to download. Smash Bros. Brawl is all too amazing and is the precise opposite of "blows."
Can't... stop... playing.
Re: Nintendo Power Poll - What Games Do You Want To See?
Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu 3, Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, Star Fox.
