Re: US VC Releases - March 24th - King's Knight

Jockolantern

Ouch... first completely bland week in quite a while for me. King's Knight is lackluster and Powerball holds no interest for me. Come on, Square! Give us the good stuff! If not the greats like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI, at least shower us with some classic Enix titles. Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Actraiser 2... those would be most welcome.

Re: Virtual Console Top 20 – March 12th to March 19th

Jockolantern

Really surprised to not see Super Metroid make the cut; then again, a lot more terrific games didn't seem to make the cut either, so...

Mario 64 is one of the few great games on the N64, a system that was plagued by mediocre to bad titles and a lousy graphics engine to boot. If we're gonna' talk massively overrated games on the N64, my glare rests firmly upon Ocarina of Time. Why on earth people consider it one of the great games of all time continues to escape me. It is by no means horrific yet by no means fantastic; Zelda series greatness can be found in the original adventure, Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Minish Cap, and Twilight Princess... but not Ocarina or Majora. Although considering its overall popularity, I'm surprised OoT didn't score higher in the Top 20 VC titles.

Re: US VC Releases - March 17th - Super R-Type

Jockolantern

Super R-Type is great news. Incredibly challenging game, but immensely rewarding; it's far from being impossibly frusturating (I'm looking at you, Legacy of the Wizard, Battletoads, and Ghosts 'N Goblins) and features good graphics and a great soundtrack. Besides, with Smash Bros. Brawl still devouring many of our lives and all the amazing WiiWare games right around the corner... who needs the VC for now?

Re: EU VC Releases - March 14th - Super R-Type

Jockolantern

Super R-Type is a terrific game and certainly a release to be happy about. What's an otherwise short game (level-wise) such as R-Type without a level of challenging worthy of mastering? Same thing applies to R-Type III and it certainly does take a while to get through some levels, but once you get it... it feels sooooooo good to know how awesome you really are to be defeating such a tough title. I do feel bad that you Europeans didn't get DoReMi Fantasy though... I hope they release it over there soon. It's a terrifically fun little game.

Re: EU VC Release - March 7th - Kirby 64

Jockolantern

Games don't have to be Battletoads/Legacy of the Wizard difficult to be truly enjoyable games. Kirby 64 is exactly what it amounts to be: colorful, fun, and charming. Definitely a recommended download for those who just like a good, laid-back platforming experience that won't have you throwing the controller around in aggrivated rage.

Re: Super Turrican

Jockolantern

Wow... been nearly 15 years since I played this game on the SNES and it STILL rocks. The music is still awesome, the graphics are still exceptional, the difficulty is spot on, and the gameplay is fun and frenetic. This game has aged very, very well.

Re: EU VC Releases - 29th February - Super Turrican

Super Turrican is a terrific game. I remember renting it way back in my early teen years and eating the game up. Awesome music, vibrant, creative graphics, terrific level design, and just challenging enough. Definite download for me if it reaches the states!

Re: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Jockolantern

Drake, you must have gone nutso; either that or that Maker's Mark hangover is just getting you down. Everyone knows the "worst" [platformer] Kirby game is still Kirby's Dream Land 3 and even that's a very enjoyable game. Not a single Kirby platformer drops below the 3 1/2 star level and Kirby 64 is certainly amongst the better of all Kirby titles. It's no Superstar... but nothing is. The Crystal Shards is a terrific game and nothing shall defuse my enthusiasm for its release this Monday morning.

Stop treading on our nostalgic dreams.

Re: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Jockolantern

Rock on, rock on! Monday can't come soon enough now; Kirby 64 release at last! Fantastic game and one I was actually daydreaming about coming out on the VC just earlier this week. Mayhaps I need to daydream more games onto the VC. ^_~

Re: Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom

Jockolantern

Tough as nails for sure, but highly undeserving of a 2 / 5. Smooth gameplay, lovely and imaginative presentation, cutscenes that are no more cheesy than the ones we were presented in the first two titles, and the music is once again fitting and pulse-pounding... what more do you want? I can think of a dozen titles much harder than this (Battletoads, one of the most greatly revered titles for the NES is damn near impossible, even with cheats) and besides... mastering the game on only five continues gives one a terrific sense of accomplishment. Maybe I'll start up a competition between myself and my two hardcore gamer friends to see who can beat it using the least amount of continues... The showdown for Ultimate Ninja bragging rights.

Re: Lords of Thunder

This is one seriously sweet shooter... incredibly hard, even on Normal, but an addictive and rewarding experience, none-the-less. I can't stop playing it.

Re: Smash Bros. Brawl to get WiiWare Portal?

Jockolantern

Who's sad that Mewtwo is out of Brawl? He was one of the worst characters in Melee. I'm glad they replaced him.

As for the channel, I'm absolutely all for it! I hope it happens as I would be more then willing to dish out a few more bucks now and then to get more characters to play, stages to best my opponents in, and killer remixes to jam along with. I hope this channel idea for Brawl happens!

Only 26 more days...
