That’s exactly what appeared to happen when Mega Man 9 was announced a few days ago. Initially confirmed for WiiWare release, a press release from Capcom mentioned that it would be coming to all three home consoles.
Now, almost as quickly as it happened, the news has been debunked. Mega Man 9 is back to being a WiiWare exclusive, with Capcom explaining that it had made a ‘mistake’ by confirming the game’s release on the 360 and PS3.
Doesn’t that make you feel all warm and fluffy inside? Capcom loves you!

Sweet! Only we get it, b%&hes! Maybe I'll get this just to rub it in other Megaman fans' faces...
yey, I feel special
yay we're special
sweet
cool
yay this is what i've been waiting to hear!
now for the price.... pleeease let it not be more than 800 points.. somehow
Oh, yeah!
Thanks for showing us the love, Capcom. _ We are forever grateful! Keep it up!
sweetness!
Whyv can't all 3rd-party companies be like Capcom?
nice!
cool
So... that OFLC rating that classified it as "multi-platform" was a mistake..?
And since when does a game need to be exclusive to a service to be good? I'm sure the game will be great, no matter what consoles or cell phones are able to play it.
I haven't played any Megaman yet. If this is cheap, I'll get it, and if I like it, I'll get Anniversary Collection. Hey, dudes, which was the better version?
Nice. Might buy.
I will see the price and then maybe purchase it. I got the Mega Man X Collection for the GCN and Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the PS2. So I might as well try Mega Man 9 when its released.
This game is gonna get Resident Evil 4'd. It'll be out on PSN in a couple of months.
How's that for third-party support!
capcom is one of my favourite company im a HUGE FAN of resident evil and somehow prefer buying new and classic on my wii then on my ps3 seeing that it is easier to access. so bring on this awsome game. now im going to play capcom breath of fire 2 game for snes on my wii lol.
Online leaderboards and DLC has also been confirmed.
nice
lol why care what it comes out on? a console dosen't [neccessarly] improve it's worth by 'exclusivs'. ...alitle dissapointd about NES-2D. it's a good idea, but it should top MetalSlug! or GuiltyGear! that'd b interesting! there's not much 'quality' 2D around... cool game anyway!
That's great news. Maybe they can release the older games on VC now.
@ Kevin: They could release the first three Megaman Titles with MM9 in the US and MM9 in Europe and MM3 a week after (since we are 'alternative')
I'm skeptical. To illustrate, Resident Evil 4 was supposedly a Gamecube exclusive when signed, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Mega Man 9 eventually make it to the other consoles.
@Thomas
on the other hand, the gamecube was commercial failure for third party titles, and especially among those mature-rated ones. capcom took a risk with re4 on the gc and although it sold relatively well (afaik), it was probably nowhere near what they were hoping for for a game of that calibre. the success of VC games on the wii, however, should be some indication that there is quite a strong market for games like these, and it should sell pretty damn well on the wii. with the sheer volume of wiis out there, it's probably not such a big gamble anymore for capcom to risk wii exclusivity.
having said that, if nintendo's not paying them some substantial exclusivity fees then they would be fools to not release it on the other consoles, where it'd definitely sell very well.
Excellent news. It shows how Capcom at least has a lot of faith behind the Wii. I bet all of the PS3 and 360 message boards are lit up with people crying that it won't be on the PS3 or 360.
Why does it being released for other systems take the wind out of our sails again? Aren't we supposed to be excited about the content of the game, not the fact that owners of other consoles don't get to play it?

Woo Hoo Its only for us, Not for The PoSN or Xbroken Live!
Well, this is great news. I'm actually suprised that it's coming to the Wii at all, let alone exclusive. It's a good thing too, because otherwise both versions would of had to compensate for the shortcomings of the other, resulting in a watered down experience for for owners of either version. At least it's not exclusive to the Xbox, like many of Capcom's other downloadable games.
While I do intend on getting an Xbox so I could play those other games, I was hoping to put that off for a while so I could purchase some more Wii and Wiiware games, as well as some old games that I had missed out on over the years, including, possibly, a Dreamcast. A Mega Man game(of which I am a big fan of) exclusive to the Xbox would force me to my purchase of said Xbox ealier than intended. Plus there are many who either can't afford or just plane don't want an Xbox, and it would've been sad to see them miss out. Sure now the Xbox owners will be missing out, but considering Capcom's track record, I'd say they won't be missing out for long.
Oh well. as I stated, I am a big fan of Mega Man, and wile I wasn't too fond of Mega Man 8, I loved all the others, including Mega Man & Bass, and it's nice to see a sequel(one I thought would never come) after all these years, not to mention exclusive to my new favorite console. This is great news indeed.
Take that, Chris Satchell!
I had a thought: perhaps the reason it's Wii exclusive, is because it's using the Wii's native NES emulation. This is why it looks and sounds like a NES game – maybe it meant that minimal effort was required to build the game for Wii as opposed to the other systems?
@accidental
Wow, hadn't thought about that, though I didn't know nor understand that the Wii has a Native NES emulation. What I do know is that you more or less proved my point. Thank you!
