Re: Opinion: Celebrating 20 Years Of Baseball In The Mushroom Kingdom

JetForceGemInEye

@Zaruboggan Yeah! The chemistry element for batting and fielding positions struck a perfect balance for a mario sports game. A layer of strategy that made a real impact without getting overly complex. I really liked diddy kong in the outfield, with DK at first and then dixie at short-stop.. But there were other fun mixes.. mario, luigi, peach and daisy made some killer combos..
When playing with friends, it was fun to pick and build our team. We would always alternate picks. Usually the first pick would take Waluigi, then the other would take Boo (we didn't use Kamek for whatever reason but yeah, now that i think about it, his changeup was nasty, how the ball would disappear half way to the plate before appearing again last second). From the pitchers, going one by one, your opponent's pick would influence how you would build out your team, and vice versa. How many power hitters do i pick.. what about speed on the bases.. gotta make sure there is chemistry between my shortstop and first baseman.. Who is that last player or two that will make an impact..
Anyway, I could ramble on, but superstar baseball was certainly my favourite sports game on the gamecube. It coming to NSO would go some way in baiting me to buy the switch 2!

Re: Nintendo Apparently Wanted Samus Aran's Fortnite Skin To Be A Switch Exclusive

JetForceGemInEye

I like the decision. What's next? Link? Mario?
I understand getting more visibility for Samus & the Metroid series. Everyone knows who Link and Mario are.
I think it's the association.
Looking at the sheer number of skins that have passed the threshold for skin-worthy in fortnite, I think Nintendo throwing in their IPs looks kind of bush league.
Hopefully they market Metroid Prime 4 hard. Being a cross-generation game should naturally help as non-initiated consumers wonder what the main system launch games are for this new-fangled switch 2.

Re: GameStop Hit By Layoffs As Analyst Predicts 'Unsustainable' Sales Decline

JetForceGemInEye

@Broosh Yeah, removal of vintage games. That's one of the key changes. I live in Ottawa, Canada and we have a store called Microplay, similar to Gamestop except that it sells vintage games ALONG with the high-margin swag/figures/cards/funko pops/game accessories that are surely the main revenue drivers for GS.
There are a lot of independent game stores that use this model so I'm glad that for the time being, I'll be able to go to these spots.

Re: Random: It's Been 5 Years Since Metroid Prime 4 Was Rebooted

JetForceGemInEye

@RupeeClock Been thinking about this day for a while. Good old Arlo (the muppet Metroid/Pikmin superfan we need) posted some months ago about what many fans had been concluding, that being it would launch on the Switch's successor. And yeah, as you say, hopefully it's a dual launch given it was teased so long ago. I'm guessing too for the successor system that the development platform will be very similar to that of switch. I'm hoping that the successor will be able to play switch titles beyond straight emulation, and that the architecture will allow frame rates and graphics to be boosted..
All that aside, I'm super hopeful we get the next gen console reveal coupled with a proper MP4 tease..

hey, LET'S NOT FORGET, we're coming up on the 5 year anniversary of the infamous YT announcement:

"Development Update on Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch"

[Note: T'was a bittersweet day. But ultimately sweet as releasing an average, so-so MP4 would be heart breaking]

Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Has Reportedly Sold Almost 3 Million Copies

JetForceGemInEye

@Hwatt Interesting point regarding potential bonuses being paid out to developers based on profitability. I'm not familiar with how different studios/publishers structure bonuses for their developers.. Never even crossed my mind. I suppose I have this whimsical mental image of game studios being something akin to Rare in the 90s/early 2000s. A small studio were everyone knows everyone and they all go through the (sometimes brutal) crunch simply because they love to make games. When I hear 20000 employees at Ubisoft, I'm shocked. So yeah, with that, I can see how there are compensation structures at game companies that mimic those of a massive multi-national corporation in the non-gaming world..
And yeah, hopefully they broke even.. I don't imagine the development cost was massive, like in the 200M range, but it wouldn't be small either..

Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Has Reportedly Sold Almost 3 Million Copies

JetForceGemInEye

@ItsOKToBeOK Yeah, it's definitely possible.. As we read above, the CEO even stated that publicly which I think is pretty rare. Perhaps they contemplated it but with incredible switch sales, Nintendo opted to push the release of switch 2 (I think I can safely assume at this point that the next console will be the same hybrid model with backward compatibility given the massive switch install base and titles which continue to sell well.
If it was indeed pushed out then I don't think ubisoft wanted to wait around for that since development was done summer/fall 2022.
Maybe they'll do a meaty DLC that only runs on switch 2?

Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Has Reportedly Sold Almost 3 Million Copies

JetForceGemInEye

@Hwatt Oh right, that's a really good point.. Yeah, hopefully they broke even. The soundtrack (which is incredible) is on Spotify, YouTube music & apple music so they're probably pulling in a bit of money there. Nothing earth shattering I imagine but they've leveraged that profit opportunity more than most devs/publishers do. Hopefully they at least break even on what they paid Kirkhope, Coker and Shimomura!

Re: Poll: How Much Internal Storage Would Be Reasonable For 'Switch 2'?

JetForceGemInEye

256GB pwetty pweez! I just bought a top-tier 256GB micro SD card last month for like CAD$15. So if you have that chip right on the circuit board, and you take away the mark-up that computer shops charge for micro sd cards, you have something very important/valuable to the user that will be wayyyy down the BOM. It's so small that it really shouldn't be a nuisance to the hardware engineers working on the board to accommodate it

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule

JetForceGemInEye

Thank you Nintendo! Thank you Rare/Microsoft!
The username I chose is a testament to my love for this game!

Not sure if Nintendo retained full rights to release it's library of Rare games.. but given the hype around Banjo in Super Smash, I'm guessing a deal had to be made for Nintendo to do that. Then there was the release of Banjo Kazooie & soon Goldeneye.. So Jet Force Gemini is probably no different.

Huge shout-out to the original devs at Rare & an extra huge shout-out to Robin Beanland, the lead composer for the INCREDIBLE sound track.

Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?

JetForceGemInEye

@SpinEnDash I can relate but only for the N64. I sold my N64 and goldeneye to raise money to buy a gamecube (black) at launch. It would be cool to have that original 64 still. I've bought a couple used ones, one being the translucent 'Jungle Green' but it's fun to have the original. I dropped my gamecube and the laser mechanism broke, but it was right around the time the Wii came out so I was able to do that. Yeah, it's a little tedious.. As great as it is to be able to play GCN games on my Wii, and Wii games on the Wii U. I agree there's something about playing a game on the native console. Not just the convenience of no adapters & extra menu navigation.. but a certain.. nostalgia(?) to it?

I've kept that Wii and Wii U.

Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?

JetForceGemInEye

"If" Switch 2 is backwards compatible???
I think at this point it's pretty obvious it will be. Just take a read of the title of Tuesday's article:
"Nintendo's 330M+ User Accounts Will Be Foundation Of 'Lasting Relationship With Consumers'"
The vast majority of those 330M are Switch accounts. It's not much of a "lasting relationship" if you deprive your customers of the reason they bought a switch in the first place: to play switch games!
I understand the angle of an "out there hypothetical theory" for a slow news day. I mean, know you guys know, or well, are "highly confident" it will be backward compatible.

But yesh, I'll lend it to friends/family. That way the nostalgia remains along with multiple people getting to enjoy it as most gamers inevitably put consoles down for a time in order to play sth on a different platform/another hobby/life

Re: Poll: Pikmin 4 Is Out On Switch This Week, Will You Be Getting It?

JetForceGemInEye

1000000% getting it at some point. Played the first two back in the day when they first released. Pikmin 3 was one of my favourite Wii U games. Pikmin 4 looks to build on the story atmosphere, tone, humour & quirkiness of the previous 3 games. The graphics are spot on, nothing overly flashy, but true to the running art style. Plus Pikmin 4 made Arlo super happy (understatement) and his love, reactions to and coverage of, Pikmin (along with Metroid) brings me much joy. My favourite Nintendo Youtuber by far. Dunkey does some really solid Nintendo reviews & comedic pieces, but as far as a pure Nintendo Youtuber.
So in a somewhat convoluted and meandering reply to the straightforward question... I will not get it at launch but I will likely wait until a chain drug store (that happens to sell switch games) has a mega bonus loyalty point day and get it then assuming they have stocked it by that time..
