I just realised something. It's a long shot, but it could mean something.

Remember the new slogan animation? The animation features a slate with buttons. Like a Wii Remote, but with a similar layout to a handheld. It's very similar to the whole "detachable buttons" gimmick that's been rumoured.

Also, "There's no play like it" could represent the uniqueness of the device.

I don't know. Wild speculation.

Sonic Generations: "We want something fresh!"
Lost World: "Bleh, go back to classic Sonic!"
Mania/2017: "Wow, SEGA is playing it safe. I wanted to see something new."

Hell, even another Digital Event would be better. You've got Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Paper Mario: Colour Splash, the new Zelda, Pokemon Sun/Moon, possibly the detective Pikachu game and even Project Giant Robot. There's also tons of indie games still to come. I'm sure Nintendo could make an event out of that.

So Nintendo is relying on a game that isn't even the best version but rather the Wii U version to carry them this E3.

This points to NX being a handheld, but if Zelda is launching on the new handheld it's either really powerful or it's scaled back. So maybe a console? Nintendo is crazy.
