Well, this article bases on the premise of a promise made by Nintendo.
Nintendo even said NX will exist along 3DS AND Wii U and its pretty clear Wii U is already winded down entirely and 1st Party output on 3DS is rather thin and feels pretty fillery.
I think Big N is very focused on NX now and they need it to be a success and very likely will get behind it with all their might.
And its actually a concept thats very much build on the strenghts of its platform. What did you expect ? A Mario Galaxy ? A match 3 puzzler with Nintendo icons ? Honestly no one of us should wish for compromised adaptions of our dear brands and gameplay designs on mobile phones.
I simply dont care for mobile games, no matter who makes them and Ninty knows that.
"Digital selling method will be different. The digital version will allow you to play until chapter 5, where you will be made to either go the White Kingdom route or the Black Kingdom path. You can purchase the other route via DLC"
WTF !? So the digital version includes both paths and thus locks the path you do not choose and you have to unlock it again by paining for it.
Considering Nintendo does certain franchises only once per platform generation I think that might be great thing to hook their players, as long as it has the volume and quality of the MK8 DLC. Mewto is way too expensive.
Cosmetic DLC is okay as its easy to give it a pass for whatever reasons.
They ran kinda amok with DLC with F.E. Awakening already and are raising the bar on this one. Many games offer to branch its stories through decisions, but making us pay for it ? Leaves a very bad taste.
Welcome to our new Nintendo World with DLC, Microtransactions, Free2Play and Mobile games. Until now I gave Nintendo the preference because I didnt had to deal with this kind of crap on their platforms.
@Faruko I guess they would classify as epic failures on first sight, though we would need to take into account what actual aims and expectations for each console were.
Nintendos sales projections for Wii U were what rendered Wii U a failure in the first place.
@mitchtendo Thats not true. Games get pushed back all the time, on every platform. Uncharted 4 and Quantum Break for PS4 and XBOne most recently f.e..Games are pimped visually for trailers, nothing special here either.
@argh4430 Guess we agree on that microtransactions suck, though I was rather pleased with the way Mario Kart 8s DLC turned out, but Mewtos pricetag and the Mii Costumes on the other hand ...a different story.
Sometimes I can agree on some tender milking of mine, but if someone tries it the rough and ugly way... no milk for you my friend !
I fear it wont sell "well".
To date only Big Ns really well established, long running heavy weights sold noteable numbers: Noteable in relation to Wii Us tiny install base.
Mario Kart Wii alone sold 3 times more than actual Wii U consoles have been sold.
If Nintendo does not promote Splatoon eagerly outside of enthusiast circles (like the ones we Nintendo enthusiasts dwell in) I cant imagine it doing anywhere near impressive numbers.
But right now Big N seems just to want to cater to the likes of us (fans). No broader marketing, no price drop, no real initiative to push Wii U beyond boundries.
@Quorthon To me personally Xendoblade is THE killer app for Wii U and I hope it will make it in 2015. This would brighten things up, for a few of us at least.
As sad as it is, I think it is true. No killer app for 2015 so far, I doubt Star Fox will have more impact than Smash Bros or Mario Kart 8, if it comes 2015 at all.
3rd Party support is gone aside from a few titles Nintendo probaly buys in.
Nintendo reallocates development talent to mobile. The writing is on the wall.
Wii U will go out with quite the bang by end of 2016, accompanied by Zelda, the new Retro game, and maybe 1 or 2 other high profile games.
2017 we will see the Project NX, I guess it will be fully backwards compatible to Wii U games, it probably will pull what the Wii was to the Gamecube, being a slighly beefed up hardware update, hope they wont call it "New Wii U".
It will drop the tablet nonsense, pack in the next big Mario home installment, feature an up to date account system and may something along the lines of Playsation+.
And it should cost no more than 249.99
All this I know because of Rinnegan, though I havent mastered it fully yet.
@starmarx39 The game per se didnt fail, which I by the way, didnt say at any point, yet it failed to boost WII Us hardware perfomance in a noteworthy way. Wii U is still selling very poorly compared to any competitor and is on its way to be Nintendos second worst selling system ever only beaten by the Virtual Boy.
Almost all of Nintendos Killer Apps are out, Zelda is way off and Nintendo probably already redistributes development talent to mobile titles, Wii U install base is a joke. I think the Wii U is done by end of 2016.
If Mario Kart and Smash Bros failed to turn Us tides in a meaningful way, Lego wont shake anything up, especially when its multi-platform.
There wont be any wonderous change regarding Wii U anymore. Nintendo screwed this one up. I think I will be a happy late adaptor after all, in 2 years.
I do not spend money on microtransactions/costumes and rarely on DLC, if its not as beefy and substantial as Mario Kart 8s. The prices I saw at the last direct especially for Mewto kinda shocked me. Just compare it With MK8s DLC !!! No way I will ever spend money on that.
Until now I bought Ninendo products rather than a Sony machine because I didnt have to deal with this kinda crap.
Right now there isnt that much to look forward to for my 3DS and Wii U in short and mid term. And the biggest news of recent do not cater to me at all.
Instead of teasing a new console they simply should have annouced some more games to show dedication.
I still think Zeldas delay cannot come as a suprise to anyone. History shows a clear pattern of, well, lets call it "strategic optimism", regarding release dates for Zelda titles. They know Zelda draws people towards their hardware so they simply dont hang the carrot out the donkeys sight. And there was the footage they have shown, which suggested that the game must be miles away from being ready.
But I have to confess I lost quite a bit of trust in Nintendo and the futureproofness of their buisnessmodel as it is now. Maybe they should go publisher only, a first step has been done with them going mobile.
And while they always press the point of being innovative with hardware and more I think this is quite a marketing and corporate IP thang. Just look at how poorly they utilze the gamepad and how few games really made sense or even improved experience with motion controls.
Just hope Nintendo learend their lessons from the Wii U fail and the 3DSs initial struggles. On top of the list they should adapt reaonable pricing for their NX endevour.
We should not forget that its not Nintendo that will develop games for mobile devices, so they probably wont waste any precious talent or time on games most of us are not interested in, even if these games will feature known Nintendo IP.
I am looking forward to this game a lot, hoping it will turn out great. The delay is sad but I ll get it on PC anyway. I dont buy download games from Nintendo eShop as long as games are hardware bound and Ninty does not offer me a state of the art account structure.
If HLD turns out a game I want to play I ll gladly pay 20 bucks for it.
I dont think there will be a portable/stationary hybrid the way most people imagine. It will be probably more akin to the protable/stationary hybrid that Sony has, namely the Vita/PS4 ecosystem. That already allows cross platform games and scaling without limiting each hardware species in terms of raw power and unique hardware features. There is symetry, synergy and still uniqness.
Nintendo will very probably wont build its next console around a hardware gimmick like a tablet controller (though it still will be suported I guess), but rather deeply interwine it into a sophisticated digital ecosphere, that will connect its portable and stationary devices and as well connect with Phones, PCs and more.
But actually this cant come as a suprise, since Iwata stressed several times that Nintendo IS/WAS looking into how they can utilize smart and mobile devices (in a way that would support and strenghten their console buisness)
A straight forward approach of just cashing in the money by releasing classics/straight forward ports and thus supporting other company branches still seems far fetched, by Nintendo standards, and is kinda cool.

Re: Hardware Review: We Look at a Definitive GameCube HDMI Mod
But is this better than an upscaler like Framemeister ?
Pretty pricy and a Framemeister upscales all your retro hardware.

Its not a game and its for girls.

This sucks. Like on Disc DLC but even worse.
Re: Review: Heart Beaten (3DS eShop)
There is actually a fine line between dark humour/sarcasam on the one side and tastelessness on the other. This game is the latter I my eyes.
Re: Treyarch Isn't Working on Call of Duty: Black Ops III For Wii U, Though Activision is Noncommittal
Totally overrateted shooter franchise. Do not care at all for it, on any platform.
Re: Video: Catch Up With the Xenoblade Chronicles X Video Showcase With This Handy Summary
This is the only game that could stop me from selling my wii u.... again.
Theres a new Batman comin, a new MGS, and god knows what... just not to our party.
Re: Digital Foundry Assesses The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and More GameCube HD Remake Possibilities
Then Id like one Wave Race Blue Storm a la carte please.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Increased US Hardware Sales for Wii U and 3DS in 2015
@holygeez03 You speak my mind good man. All talk is "we want F-Zero" but i would much rather see a new Wave Race.
WR always had the best water physics, just imagine how cool it might become !

Re: Nintendo Highlights Increased US Hardware Sales for Wii U and 3DS in 2015
@Extremist Not at all, I am proud and happy owner of a Sega Mega CD, Dreamcast and Wii U.
But neither my nor your opinion will change the fact that Wii U is a fail by most standards.
Re: Nintendo Highlights Increased US Hardware Sales for Wii U and 3DS in 2015
Well... 20% more of too few is still not enough -.-
Re: Video: Greatness Awaits In This New Project CARS Trailer
If we ll get it on Wii U at all, it will be a crappy port.Though I still doubt this will ever see the light of day, no matter what they say.

There simply must be at least one one big announcment for 2015 that is being held back, hopefully 2. Everthing else would be a bad joke.
Re: Talking Point: It's Too Early to Write Off the Wii U Over The Legend of Zelda's Delay

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set for 2015 Release
This was pretty clear and I cant believe anyone took a 2015 release seriously.
Considering how raw the last showing of Zelda U material was, i guess there isnt much to see at all, thats why they wont show it at E3
Re: Feature: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U - What Do We Know So Far?
I dont believe it will make it this year. March 2016 at the earliest is my guess.

Yet its the hardware that kinda screwed them most recently.
Re: Nintendo Working On New 'Dedicated Game Platform' Codenamed 'NX'
So it will be the long rumored "Virtual Girl" stationary handheld with glasses supported 2D. Nintendo always had a strong hardware vision.
