Miitomo isn't the explosive introduction onto smart devices that many people were hoping, but many others remain vigilant that it is indeed a smart move by the big N; not least our own Thomas Whitehead who explains the strengths of the future app.
In the video below we discuss with long-time Nintendo Life amigo Andy Robertson from FamilyGamerTV just who this application is being targeted towards and what as-yet unannounced features it may employ when it launches.
Incidentally, if you're not too well-versed on the whole Miitomo affair you can check out this extra video below where the same two dashing young gents explain just what it is in grander detail.

If you like Animal Crossing, Tomadochi Life or Miis, this game is for you.
Of if you like any of those social time sucks that exists on the Internet everywhere. In other words, this will attract back those customers Nintendo after the Wii/DS era.
"Just Who Exactly is Miitomo Designed for?"
Interestingly, you could pose the same question for Wii U, because Nintendo (and 3rd parties) clearly didn't know the answer either.
maybe people who are fans of Tomodachi might like this?
Well I hope it's not aimed at me.....because I'm definitely NOT into this!!
@gatorboi352 It's not just Wii U, it's the whole company.
"Nintendo: Who's it for?"
Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival
The Wii had AC packaged w/ the Wii Speak mic promoting online interaction in a full home version of animal crossing. Who wanted this board game?
Zelda: Triforce Heroes
Solo not so good, if you have 1 friend you can't play together at all, 2 friends who like communicating using little pictures, you're golden. Who needs Zelda U?
Metroid Prime: Federation Force
You don't want another home console Metroid, you want 3DS soccer.
Meet-a-Mii is the least of their sins.
Edit - Wow, you guys gave this 10:11 of your time? That's almost 10 minutes too much.
People aren't giving the 3DS iteration of Tomadachi Life the credit it deserves. It was a hit in the west and this title aims to capitalise on that. It removes the fourth wall that was erected by the requirement to buy 3DS hardware to play that title. Everyone has a smartphone, and most people download free or free to play games as a pointless distraction.
It's not the move many thought Nintendo would make as a first foray into mobile gaming but I think it's a good move, but there's a caveat - it needs to be marketed in the right way. im sure word of mouth and a slight media output will go so far but they need to make sure they can explain it to consumers properly in order to get enough people experiencing the title.
This is open ended for everyone and anyone Nintendo and non Nintendo fans. I am 50/50 on if I will use this but I'm not a big mobile gaming even if a Mario, Zelda or Metroid game was released.
I still don't understand if you can only chat with registered friends in Miitomo or also with strangers.
It seems obvious that it is aimed at expanding Nintendo's audience, not at customers they already have--like anyone who reads and comments at video game sites.

I kind of remember an article saying once you've met someone you have the option to add them as a friend and then you can talk/hang out with them. But you both have to add each other as friends. I don't know if its like a Facebook thing where it sends a friend request to be accepted or declined.
@pazuzu Once you've met someone who uses Miitomo? So what you're saying is that this app will only work in Japan and nowhere else?
This question didn't really need to be asked. We all know that Miitomo is for so-called "Casual Gamers" (I absolutely hatethe term "casual gamer" because it's always used as some sort of insult).
I really would like to understand how that game could be considered a "smart move".
Taking the fanboy glasses off, there's not much to exect, really, unless you're some kind of social network enthusiast.
Just a reminder: Second Life was supposed to be a blast a couple years ago. It failed miserably.
I'm intrigued to see how this app integrates with Nintendo Account and My Nintendo. I have liked the mii integration in games so far. I especially like the plaza games. Tomodachi Life was great fun, though a weird experience. However, there are definitely certain issues. The plaza games are pretty much impossible without homepass or the relays. The accomplishments are pretty much impossible without cheating. The last time the EU had a special mii was a year ago and there have only been 13 ever, I think. Just seems that Nintendo has pushed some features and then not supported them. It's left me wondering what the point is and if they push Miitomo, will it actually be properly supported in the West?
This game is essentially being targeted to former Wii/DS owners who didn't buy a Wii U or a 3DS. It's casual, approachable, simplistic, and most of all, free-to-play.
I'm always interested in Nintendo's more outlandish Nintendo-y stuff like this, but they really should have showed an actual game along with it. They kept saying "No, we're never making mobile games, but maybe we'll make an app where you make a Mii" and then they said "Okay, yeah, we'll make some mobile games" and then there's all the lead-up to them showing their first mobile game, and their first mobile game turns out to just be the Mii thing they said they were making instead of games — and also it's been delayed again, to now almost two years after its original projected release window, in a market that changes dramatically in two years — yeah, that's gonna shake your investors' confidence.
Its not a game and its for girls.
And its actually a concept thats very much build on the strenghts of its platform. What did you expect ? A Mario Galaxy ? A match 3 puzzler with Nintendo icons ? Honestly no one of us should wish for compromised adaptions of our dear brands and gameplay designs on mobile phones.
I simply dont care for mobile games, no matter who makes them and Ninty knows that.
basically everyone? well the Mii you will create will be your digital self and part of everything you'll be doing in your My Nintendo, this app will give your Mii a world and a life of it own so it makes perfect sense that this is the first app they are creating..now cut to when Nintendo will make it a mandatory app when you create a My Nintendo account or will be giving tons of reward points if you download and play the app and EVEYONE will be download this thus making it a big success for them while Nintendo will also get to intrude your privacy and monitor you through the questions you answer and use them to create better products made for you.
..so essentially Nintendo is not creating Miitomo to please you, their fanboys or fangirls..Miitomo is a well concealed monitoring app that will surve the purpose of what answering all those questionnaires has been all about and ofcourse they will insure that this will be a success as their first mobile gaming app by offering you rewards like points to win free games or game discounts if you download and constantly play this app that you will not be able to resist..creating a franchise game as their first app would have only appealed to the fans of said franchise when this will have a much bigger impact..whether you think it's not for you, enjoy it or not you will probably become a slave to it for the free treats I'm sure..
@manu0
I'm pretty sure the app will be available world wide, you'd probably get it from the android market or apple store. From what I read it basically sounds like street pass on ds. Anyone with that software can meet each other, I think this one is supposed to be more interactive and reach a broader base since almost everyone has a smart phone.
I don't understand the reaction. How different is this to the Playstation app or My Xbox Live app you can find on iOS and Android.
