Will Meta Knight be back?

The Super Smash Bros. series has had a fair few characters join the fight over the three released titles. However, while some characters, such as Mario, Donkey Kong and Pikachu have been in all games, some of the new Melee additions did not make it over to Brawl, with the likes of Mewtwo, Roy and Dr Mario all falling by the wayside.

Of course, it is inevitable that some characters must be dropped in order to accommodate new ones and many are wondering if all characters from Brawl will be making the journey over to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

Well, in an interview with Now Gamer, the upcoming game's producer Masahiro Sakurai confirmed not all characters will be making a comeback as there isn't enough time to recreate them alongside newcomers.

Adding new characters is not a simple addition – it’s really multiplication. The amount of work, adding a character is multiplied and becomes bigger and bigger as you go.

Sakurai said he understands each fighter has his or her own set of fans who really like the character and acknowledged some will be disappointed when they don't find their favourite character in the roster.

We’re going to put in as many characters as we can, we really want to do that, because it's good for the fans and good for all of us. But in the event that we do have to cut some characters, I’d like to apologise in advance to those fans.

It's also not yet known if all the characters in the Wii U roster will be on the 3DS version as well. We know there won't be cross-platform play so it is possible the 3DS character list could be smaller than the one on Wii U due to the lesser hardware capabilities.

Which characters would you like to see stay on from Brawl, and who would you cut? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments below.
