‘Switch version doesn’t look as good as PS5 game shocker’

It’s the same choice you always have to make. Get a fancy new Xbox, PS or PC for visual fidelity and excellent frame rate. Or get the Switch for accessible portable play.

If you’re fortunate to afford/own two devices, it comes down to whether you think you have the time to sit in front of your TV for that length of time. I don’t have that time, so I’ll get the Switch edition. But I do so knowing, as I always know, I’m playing the visually inferior option

Re: New Pokémon Snap Passes Two Million Sales Outside Of Japan

@Yoshilapin 8 million is a bonkers for an expectation. A niche game from 20 years ago that was released during the height of pokemania and sold just over 3m copies, was never going to exceed sales of big budget releases backed by huge marketing like Luigi’s Mansion and Mario + Rabbids.

Online chatter represents just a fraction of Nintendo’s audience.

@Chowdaire @Yoshilapin @electrolite77 Don’t confuse the word ‘niche’ with the word ‘small’.

You can judge internal expectations by marketing spend. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a 6/7m seller and received significant above-the-line ad spend. This received a bit, but it was primarily online digital campaigns. Thus, no, Nintendo will not be expecting 6 - 7m sales.

Re: Switch Hardware Sales Reach 89 Million Despite Facing A Year-On-Year Slump

@WhiteUmbrella It's not actually how it works. Nintendo has already stated, including in this financial report, that Switch has already surpassed its expectations. That's why its share price has risen substantially and it's profits have, too. It's already not a failure.

But regardless, focused development on one platform allows for decreased marketing and manufacturing costs, increased engagement and increased digital sales, and thus increased revenue and profit.

What's crucial is user growth mixed with increasing spend-per-user. Both of which Switch has already achieved. There were 150m DS owners and 100m Wii Owners, but that doesn't mean there were 250m Nintendo players. The cross-over between those mediums will have been significant.

Therefore, adding the numbers of handhelds to home consoles from previous generations doesn't create a new target for Switch to hit.

Re: Random: 'Switch Vs Steam Deck' Memes Are A Thing Now, Apparently

Steam Deck isn't about families, it isn't about Nintendo games, it isn't about flexibility.

Switch isn't about hardcore games, it isn't about PC, it isn't about taking your PC library offline.

Yes, they compete. Everything competes with each other. But these two devices complement each other.

Re: Here's How Nintendo Is Improving Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Over The Wii Original

Dringo

For me, I judge value by whether or not I’ll get a lot of enjoyment out of a game… not how much effort went into making it. If I am likely to play Skyward Sword for 40/50 hours and enjoy it, then £50 is very much worth it. And I’m on board

It’s the same for when I go to the cinema. I am willing to pay the same for an indie flick as a marvel movie, because of the amount of entertainment I get. Irrespective of how much money was spent making it.

But different strokes for different folks

@COVIDberry The issue is controlling your own IP and what it represents. Metroid isn’t just a game, it’s a brand. Nintendo carefully decide what goes into it and what it does. They obsess on how Mario’s hat looks in LEGO form. They’re required to approve everything.

It’s because they’re a brand business. Movies, theme parks, plushies are all part of that. Nintendo sees itself as the creators of digital toys. And you wouldn’t expect Mattel to be ok with people giving away fake Barbies
