Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

Doma

@SCAR392 "As for Europe, I had no clue they get cut prices on games on launch for physical copies.

That's basically because when/if a retailer over here witnesses a product not selling at the given price, they're smart enough to adjust it to meet with demand, it's basic business. Very few people are willing to pay the silly RRP of £40 for a handheld game in the UK, this is fact. Since Nintendo would never reduce the RRP, the retailers are forced to make the cuts themselves.

In the past i heard Nintendo was heavily fined for price-fixing (conspiring with retailers to stick to their RRP, no matter what). So it doesn't surprise me to see that with retailers out the equation, Nintendo will keep the game prices as high as possible. I think they’d rather see their business capsize than adjust themselves according to market (in the UK at least...).

Re: Pikmin Hero Captain Olimar Joins The Smash Bros. Roster On Wii U And 3DS

Doma

@Ernest_The_Crab Everybody has their preferences man, i never said he sucked. Of course there'd be people who like/use him well, but he wasn't an interesting character for me to use (as i just said; didn't care for his move-set or memorability as character).

And no, i've never once paid any attention to tier lists in Smash Bros. games. Who you're good with depends almost entirely on the you, the player. Not some predetermined stat. Although, i did clearly notice how some characters were nerfed in Brawl - like Ganondorf, he was reduced to pure garbage.

Re: Review: Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)

Doma

@CanisWolfred I don't think it will, tbh. Only an actual date from the pub would confirm anything and Soul Hackers already has that.

I won't continue to complain though. I really will just ignore the game's media, for now. I'll look forward to playing it whenever.

Re: Review: Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)

Doma

Wish i could pre-order this... Too bad my region is on Atlus' sh*t list. I have a wallet full of cash ready to give them, but they just don't want it.

Time to ignore every piece of news on this for a long while, in fear of spoilers.

@Drop-Dead-Fred Nope, not even the publisher is known i think.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U Has Plenty of Opportunities for "Brand-New Types of Games"

Doma

Oh Nintendo... Why don't you understand that the same casual gamers who bought into the Wii have since moved on and are no longer interested in your products? It was cute of you to think the Wii built up some kind of brand loyalty with this type of audience - they bought the system on the whim of an interesting fad, nothing more.

The U gamepad has relatively zero mass-market appeal, otherwise you'd have seen them flock to it already by now. No amount of “brand new” game types will turn things around for you this time, it's too late, the chance was missed.... You deserve no sympathy for this ignorance. Now, get back to making real games.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Has Lost Its "Mojo"

@TimoteiWest

I am increasingly of the opinion that Nintendo's home-hardware's days are numbered because the profits on hardware are so small these days. Nintendo stand to make a lot more money by going multiplatform and selling only software.

Sounds like a plan.

Re: Satoru Iwata - "There Are Some Reasons Behind" Region Locking

Doma

Interviewer: Hello, Iwata.

Iwata: Konichiwa

Interviewer: We're here today to discuss region-locking. Could you please explain a bit about why you're still using this measure? I mean, what are the intentions for restricting people, in this day and age?

Iwata: From some people’s perspective, it might seem like a kind of restriction. However, we hope people can appreciate the fact that we’re selling our products worldwide.

Interviewer: Ah, okay... so um, can you go into a bit more detail. What does that have to do with Region-locking?

Iwata: I hope that game fans can understand that the industry isn’t doing this solely out of business ego. There are some reasons behind it.

Interviewer: Those reasons are?...

Iwata: Please understand.

Interviewer: …

Iwata: …

Interviewer: Get out.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Has Lost Its "Mojo"

Doma

Pachter questioned why anyone would even consider picking up the console, aside from the (rather significant) reason of being able to play Nintendo games.

I said this before but – that isn't so significant when you put the 3ds into the equation. Nintendo hardly make any console-defining games (i.e. stuff they certainly wouldn't be capable of porting to their handheld simultaneously or a few years later). Mostly the same kind of games are being announced/released between the two. The reason to own both is almost non-existent for anybody.

Go on, post a comment. You know you want to.

lol...

@ScorpionMG LMAO, blame Iwata.

Re: Limited Edition Pokémon X & Y 3DS Models Revealed in Japan

Doma

Blue one is nice, but i don't really like those new legendary designs.

I'll never purchase an XL anyway though, as i'm fine with the OG screen size and the grip i have for it (can't forget also, the anti-consumer measure of not providing a charger... don't support that).

Re: Video: This Shin Megami Tensei IV Limited Edition Set is a Thing of Beauty

Doma

@Sjoerd I get the feeling we won't even be seeing this game here in 2013, do we know which pub exactly will be bringing it to EU?

NIS is for Soul Hackers later this year, but i dunno who for this (maybe Nintendo?). I kinda hope it isn't Nintendo though, because of that chance they won't leave the game as is and decide to censor it in some way...

Re: Satoru Iwata - "There Are Some Reasons Behind" Region Locking

Doma

I've never really cared too much about region-locking until i'm being barred (for no apparent reason, just look at this BS response!) from playing a game i want, ALREADY in full English! I'm not one to moan when the game in question is at least confirm for EU release, but that's a slow and idiotic process which doesn't happen until much later (up to years), half the time.

Not so unrelated - But Iwata is truly an awful CEO for Nintendo, he seems so clueless and unwilling to learn from a lot of things. Now, in his desperate attempt to exactly repeat the success of the Wii, the WiiU has failed spectacularly and he's still completely oblivious as to why.... Let us all sincerely hope for the swift death of this terrible system along with the booting of Iwata soon.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Iwata Asks - Development, Accessibility for All Gamers and More

Doma

I played the GBA game, thought it was pretty good as a starter RPG.

Then played PiT on DS, felt indifference towards it (seemed like i was playing a more forcibly linear, less funny and easier version of the first, with a lame double-up gimmick). Battling as Mario/Luigi repeatedly with little difference between them (move wise) gets old fairly quickly. Can't really say i'm interested in this series anymore.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Third-Party Concerns Are Brushed Off By 3DS

Doma

@R_Champ You know what, though? Generally, i think it's more acceptable when remakes are provided as a collection rather than standalone full-priced entries, like Nintendo does always (it reeks of desperation). Otherwise, i'd want some notable new content in those re-releases.

Nobody could call me infatuated with Sony because i'm no fan to any company, that's foolish. I go to whichever system offers the best line-up and wide variety. Here i'm simply saying Nintendo doesn't offer that with their consoles anymore and there's barely any reason to own a WiiU if you own a 3ds already (which i do), let alone other consoles.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Third-Party Concerns Are Brushed Off By 3DS

Doma

@Brian1010 Fine, pay no attention to my Ps4 comment. But could you tell me more about these “distinct experiences” only available on the WiiU atm? For any game you list there's probably a 3ds equivalent to be found somewhere.

@GearsOfWarU Come on.. be honest. You won't be buying all those games (heck, not many would be able to afford it for starters) but mostly every Nintendo one. Such is the way of a Nintendo fan.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Third-Party Concerns Are Brushed Off By 3DS

Doma

I think those people who like to fully equate the WiiU's situation to the 3ds are insane, somewhat.

One thing they also fail to understand is - that without 3rd party support the WiiU is basically Nintendo's second 3ds, with less (or even the same) games and no portability. What's the point in own owning both when you'll (more or less) get the same experience by owning one or the other, huh? People's choice would be to buy the cheaper one actually capable of being used anywhere, and reject the WiiU.... I feel Nintendo should just port existing WiiU games to the 3ds and cut their losses really. It's VERY rare to see any console defining games from them (with the way they are presently) anyway.

As a gamer, you'd be much better served buying a Ps4 as your home system. Not only for third-party support, but the fact it's a company not infatuated with making remakes, mini-games and casual focused BS. Just my thoughts, don't hate me.

Re: Investor Approval Rating For Satoru Iwata Drops To 77.26 Precent

Doma

@shinesprite Hell no, man.. The customer is always right. If they're ignorant, it's because of the company's inefficiency to properly explain and advertise stuff (WiiU would probably have done as poorly even with advertising though, imo). They alone are responsible for their failure.

Btw personally, i think the best thing to do at this point is scrap the WiiU and transfer all resources to the 3ds. Get that Pikmin, DK and Mario 3d Land sequel to the 3ds, pronto. They'd make great portable games! haha. Then afterwards maybe think about the possibility of TV link-up as a secondary feature for the 3ds' successor, for their last foray.

Because really, how often do we get a home console level game from Nintendo nowadays (in scope) that's far beyond what their handheld would be capable of? Not often enough. It's like they don't seem cut out for it... otherwise they wouldn't be so desperate to make a quick buck off casuals all the time.

Re: Nintendo Defends Influx of New Mario Titles

Doma

@Fillytase You're correct, they don't sell so there's absolutely no reason to bother with 'em. In fact, Nintendo should keep shovelling Mario constantly and only use the WiiU as a dedicated Mario box. Just imagine it, the WiiU will sell massively! Who really cares about game variety nowadays, right?

Re: Sakurai Explains The Reasoning Behind The New Characters in Super Smash Bros.

Doma

@RetroGBHippie92 My main point was; Village boy is a bland custom avatar that should have no place in game like this. I don't particularly care for Resetti, was only stating that even a lowly character like him would be better than a soulless doll. I dunno if Resetti still exist in AC games tbh.

About Giygas. I've never played an Earthbound game so i wouldn't know but, a psychic fetus?.... yeah, somehow i don't think that specific character will ever make it into another Nintendo game again, lol. Don't take that as me bashing him/it, that's to do with Nintendo now.

@JulioSince1990 #50 I fully agree with this post. There are actually people out there who believe 3D Land/NSMB to be supreme Mario titles. It's sad but it's mostly just the extreme fanboy types though.

@GamerZack7 Ok then. Which of his non-existent characteristics appeal to you?

Re: Sakurai Explains The Reasoning Behind The New Characters in Super Smash Bros.

Doma

@PopeReal Using some of those as weapons seems kinda stupid to me really. Resetti is sombody you could understand his reasoning for wanting to beat some sense into others. He has a pick axe, that's enough to think up and design some worthy moves.

What cool possibilities are you thinking anyway? All he does is use the same move animations from the game by the looks of it.

Re: Sakurai Explains The Reasoning Behind The New Characters in Super Smash Bros.

Doma

Doesn't the fact these additions don't have actual names bother anyone? honestly now, who liked/cared about Village boy and Wii Fit girl prior to being announced for Smash?

That said, Wii Fit girl is seemingly less terrible because of her move-set (not as dull) and she has a voice at least. Why add the no-name villager when you could use somebody like Resetti instead.. just why.

@EarthboundBenjy Probably axed. I don't think any third-party character would make a permanent addition tbh.

Re: Talking Point: It's Time for Nintendo to Drop Region Locking

Doma

@GiftedGimp

But for most part people wether a system is region free or not isn't going to put them off buying or buying a system.

You could be right. But in my case it just adds to the long list of Nintendo's horrible anti-consumer practices;

  • Region Locked
  • No account system
  • Forcing you to buy a HD
  • Their countless number of add-on accessories
  • Never any price drops on their games

etc..
A significant deterrent for sure
