If you live outside the US, you will have already moved on from the 3DS application, Nintendo Video. Originally released in 2011, Nintendo Video has since been overshadowed by the recent Anime Channel, a YouTube application and the video service via the eShop.
It appears its time is now up in North America as well, with 3DS owners receiving a SpotPass notification that video content is now viewable via the eShop, with support for the Nintendo Video application likely to be discontinued.
In regions outside of America, the Nintendo Video service has already ended. The application's run stopped in Australia & New Zealand in March last year, Japan shortly after, and Europe in April.
If you live in North America, let us know in the comments if you’ll at all miss this application, or even if you’ve already removed it from your 3DS HOME Menu.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip!

Okay, I wasn't aware of this. I only used this service once, but that is years ago. Can't say I will miss it.
Deleted a long time ago on my taco, for space reasons. Still have have the app on 3DS XL and New 3DS XL.
Meh. It was just a novelty.
....or just go on You Tube.
With the New 3DS you can view 3D videos on Youtube, it makes this app useless.
i won't miss it i got tv, netflix, youtube to watch tv not lost for me
I stopped using this long before it officially became obsolete with the New 3DS being able to support Youtube properly. (No I don't count the Youtube app as "proper" Youtube support)
Never used Nintendo Video. It was fairly limited and didn't have any good content. Why bother keeping it?
Since I am from Australia, I was actually surprised to see it when I first got my American 3DS (about a year or so ago). Some of my American friends had told me they still had it but I thought that it was slowly going to be phased out worldwide. When it was still available on my American 3DS months later and it had disappeared from my Australian 3DS, I began to wonder.. So this news comes as no real surprise now, it just took longer than I thought it would.
Got rid of that app years ago. Dinosaur office was pretty good tho
It was actually pretty cool in the first couple of years--Kid Icarus vids, Dinosaur Office, and some of the 3D music videos (Blue Man Group, in particular) were nice to watch from time to time. Then too many videos just kept recycling in rather than sporting all-new content, and the new content was pretty lean and didn't entirely gel.
RIP, Nintendo Video. You won't be missed, but you were fun while it lasted.
It just keeps on getting better and better. What else can they remove? lol.
I take it there won't be any new episodes of Dinosaur Office.
I live in Europe, but they did have some pretty decent content IMO. The app itself was pretty slow though.
And can I just say I love the Nintendo Video menu music?
Put it this way, where I live I can't even get the damn thing to work. If migrating to the eshop means I can actually finally watch the shows on it then hell yea.
The update didn't say anything about discontinuing it, just that all the videos are now available in the eShop. It's the likely case considering what's happened in the other regions, but you still shouldn't jump to conclusions.
Not to be mean or anything, but it kinda sucked over here anyway. All we got were a few Kid Icarus animations, constant reruns of Big Buck Bunny and way too many Red Bull ads.
I remember this, there were a few rather good videos added. OK Go comes to mind.
Well, no one ever used it, so there ya go.
I honestly kind of forgot this app existed, to be honest...
Guess I was the only one who used it.
Dinosaur Office! RRRRAAAAAHHHHRRRR!!!!!!!
i care.
i care.
Only ever watched the Dinosaur Office and Bear Shark episodes anyways, so not something that will be missed by me. They seemed to just repeat the same things time and time again. The only thing that I wish that you could do, is save some of the videos that you like so you can continue watching them later on.
Deleted this app years ago. There are far more entertaining videos to watch elsewhere.
I deleted it when they stopped uploading funny 3D videos and started putting up crappy 2D videos like "Baman and Piderman."
It's a shame we can't just download the videos. I'd like to keep the Kid Icarus and Kirby videos wherever I go.
Edit: Just found out the Kid Icarus and Kirby videos aren't even on the eShop.
Considering how often videos were reused and the fact that we can easily go on Youtube for our video fix I can't say I will miss the app but I won't forget the times that I watched The Bravest Warriors and Dinosaur Office on it. Time to move on.
I like NIntendo Video and am so glad I can watch episodes I missed without having to wait weeks for NIntendo to put old videos back on.
I received the notification for this last night. It's a shame really, because they have posted a ton of good videos on there over the years, even if the selection lately has been lackluster. At the very least, putting the new videos on the eShop should make it more organized. It's just that now I'll need a constant internet connection to view them. Before, all I needed to do was let them download and then I could watch them without buffering. (My internet is slow.)
I'm pretty bummed out about this. The videos were getting recycled a lot so I guess this comes as no surprise but I did love cracking it open during lunch and finding a new episode dinosaur office once in a blue moon. My favourite video was "Bear Force One" it was pretty hilarious
Only thing I ever watched on it was Dinasaur Office (RAAWR!) , and I haven't even watched that in a long time... I'll survive.
Wait, this is still a thing?
We had this thing called MSN. I saw all things goofy things on it, back then. It was the greatest. NOW we have lame phone applications which is just over priced internet.
Their are tons Video over the internet programs from the 1990's. Nothing new. You could program one as well. Even games could support video as well.
aww I liked it.
@MyBodyIsReggie No way! We love Dinosaur Office and look forward to every episode.
My youngest son will walk around the house talking like Craig & Todd.
"Don't even talk to me until I had my morning coffee"
I checked it regularly buy it made so angry every time they replaced the good shows (the ones that are now on the eShop) with those dumb Frederator shows and that Baman thing. Man, the joke that Baman and the conspiracies are, wore thin so quickly!
I'm so glad the good stuff that is on 3D is now available in the eShop on demand.
@dkxcalibur Like I said, the good shows are still on the eShop and Dinosaur Office is one of them, I'm not sure if all the episodes released so far are available, though.
They had Bravest Warriors on for a while. What I liked was that even though the episodes came to Nintendo Video a few weeks after their initial release, the YouTube app's resolution was much less than what Nintendo Video could do. I also found that one claymation music video to be pretty awesome.
On the other hand, boy howdy did they make some poor editorial choices. Yeesh. I wonder where that nice lady who made interesting video game food went?
No big loss, never used it anyways.
Bravest Warriors was the only good reason to have Frederator backing the app, if any. Not a fan of it but it was OK.
They should also fix that crappy YouTube app, I can't believe is not even in stereo!
I enjoyed it when they would put up 3D trailers, but that ended years ago. Became a pointless app.
I don't think I ever used it. I may try it, if I still have it, before it gets deleted, just to say that I tried it.
Even though many of the videos were probably available on Youtube, I did enjoy checking the app and watching 1-2 videos every few days. For the last few weeks it was only updating every Thursday, and only adding re-runs, so I expected it to end soon. It might have been trivial, but I will miss it.
I'd much rather have a re-designed dedicated app than have the video content shoved into the the eShop.
I think the last time I used it was for the Kid Icarus shorts, and that was years ago.
I always enjoy seeing the little blue light. I even found a (stupid) way of saving the videos to my computer. Just lost my HD so I am missing a whole bunch. Sad to hear it may be ending.
My faves were 'Bee & Puppycat', Baman & Piderman', and 'Dinosaur Office' and a couple of the other cartoons.
WAIT, that's horrible! I watch Nintendo Videos on my 3DS on the subway, when I have no wifi and it's fun that there is just a rotating selection of videos on there, automatically, each day or week. If I have to visit the eshop, and stream or download videos, I'll never use it again unfortunately. The entire appeal of the Nintendo Video app was that when I sat down, I might have a few cute lil videos to watch while settling into my commute. It was a very smart idea since they have to assume most people are playing their 3DS ON THE GO and may or may not have internet...
I've been debating deleting this for months. Now's the time. Bye!
Wasted opportunity. Never put any trailers on there, started to repeat the content after a while. I know you can get trailers on the eShop but it's always been quite unreliable for me, trying to stream videos from the eShop.
I enjoyed watching a few shows on it, I guess because they were just kind of there. Dinosaur Office always looked pretty great in 3D. All of the content's on Youtube though, so it's not like I'm going to miss it. It's was a pretty dumb little novelty in this day and age, truth be told. Kids already know how to watch videos online.
Used it once and deleted it afterwards.
Eh, almost never used it except for during the early days and when the Kid Icarus shorts were on there.
My MicroSD card's only 8GB, and I hadn't seen any new Dinosaur Office for a while, so I chucked Nintendo Video to save memory.
I watched one video on my ambassador 3DS, was horrified at how much space it took up, deleted it, and never thought about it again. I honestly thought it was discontinued a long time ago, and I live in NA.
@Grumblevolcano The OK Go videos, Dinosaur Office, and the occasional extreme sports video. I remember having to watch one video before a new video would download to take it's spot. After watching a few they started repeating and I lost all desire to keep watching any all. Plus now you can watch the whole array of 3D Youtube in browser on the New 3DS XL. The only thing we would miss out on is exclusive content from Nintendo that will likely be on the eShop now.
I already deleted it....a few months ago. I do have enough space, but I just don't care about nintendo video.
I enjoyed the app and will be sad to see it go.
@VrginX taco? lol
@oats-81 youtube isn't 3d.
I used to watch this the post jsut reminded me it I still had it,
I stopped using the Nintendo Video app after they started filling it with rubbish 2D cartoons shortly following the 2DS launch. It was specifically billed as exclusively 3D content, which Nintendo negged out on eventuallly. I did enjoy Dinosaur Office, as well as many of the eccentric arthouse music videos they used to show on it.
I got rid of that mere weeks after they launched it. All of the videos it had sucked. Especially Dinosaur Office. I've never wanted death so much as I have when watching Dinosaur Office.
@Spectra_Twilight That's not your opinion, that's fact. An app that allows you to watch one of only 4 videos at any given time is obsolete in a world where sites like YouTube exist.
Meh. I only really cared for Dinosaur Office and the Kirby Right Back At Ya shorts. Everything else I never cared for. This app will not be missed.
And here I was thinking I still had mine, not realising it got removed March last year. Shows how much I cared for it. We didn't even have Dinosaur Office in Australia, but after searching it on Youtube, it's trash anyway so I guess that's a good thing.
I agree with the few people that already mentioned this but the Nintendo video program went downhill for me when they stopped offering 3D videos.
Good riddance. Along with the 3DS OS, 3DS EShop, Nintendo Video ranked with them as the worst piece of trash ever designed by any company
Ever.
Most of the content was too low resolution to watch, the disgusting interface makes the first release of Windows Xp look cutting edge in graphic design.
Only severely diehard fanboys would ever claim that it was good. I had it on my 3DS for over a year before deleting it.
Nintendo Video got the Shins a sale from enamoring me to "The Rifle's Spiral". I like the shuffling of content, though once they started with the Frederator stuff, I was bummed there was so little 3D content. Still, got myself those standalone downloads of videos (Kirby, Meat or Die, ...something else?) from the Nintendo Video sweepstakes.
