I think some of you are missing the point... It's not about the game itself. What if it was Earthbound being removed instead of Super Soccer? It's the precedent it sets that games can be removed from the service.
That why an option to purchase (like the Virtual Console) would be ideal. Even if they delisted the game, you could still delete it and redownload it to your Switch anytime. That's what most people want — a legal way to purchase and keep games.
The problem? It's not what the gaming industry wants. Same with the film industry, music industry etc. They want us to own NOTHING, so we have to keep paying $ money to rent games, movies, tv shows music. And they control what they add and remove all the time.
And, yes, you can "get" things on the Internet and there are emulators... But that's also missing the point. Many people want to do the right thing and purchase games, and not worry about them disappearing. PHYSICAL games is always the best option. But at least give us an option to purchase the games digitally.
As for the collection being re-released again and again. That's NOT exactly true...
I have the Sega Genesis Collection for both PS2 and PSP which lacks Revenge of Shinobi, the Streets of Rage games, the Treasure developed games, BUT it includes the 3 Ecco the Dolphin games as well as several unlockable arcade games like Altered Beast missing from the PS4/Switch collection. Also, the PSP has a different set of unlockable arcade games than the PS2 version.
Then there's Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on the PS3 which includes more games than the PS2/PSP release. But it lacks Shadow Dancer, Sword of Vermillion and Virtual Fighter 2 (all of which would be included again in the PS4/Switch collection). BUT it gives us Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles which are missing from the other collections as well as other unlockable arcade games like Shinobi, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, Alien Syndrome AND even some unlockable Master System games like Phantasy Star 1 and Golden Axe Warrior.
The collection for the PS4/Switch lacks any of the Arcade and Master System unlockable games and is missing the three Ecco the Dolphin games as well Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. But it has the most Sega Genesis games — 51 (I think) which is also more than the overall number of games included in the other compilations.
So, yes, I'm sure Sega will release a new compilation at some point and may even include some games that were missing before but it may also be missing some games we had in the current collection... Only time will tell.
My biggest issue is the games getting de-listed and not having a replacement in place. Data East had a similar situation where a whole bunch of their arcade games were de-listed and, as far as I know, have yet to be replaced with Arcade Archive equivalents.
I have this collection for the Switch and also got it for the PS4 when it was on sale (it has a couple Wonder Boy games that are missing from the Switch version), so I'm set. I also have many of the Sega Ages games on the switch which I think are not getting de-listed.
I'm more concerned about the PS3 digital games getting de-listed (Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and some of the Saturn games)
The biggest mistake, in my opinion, is to create emulators for current-gen systems (or even last-gen). OF COURSE game companies will go after you if you allow the games and consoles they're CURRENTLY selling and making money from to be available for free...
In the future, when these consoles become yesterday's news and some of their features are taken offline or can not longer be accessed, and some games become absurdly expensive or unavailable to purchase, THEN these emulators will have an important role to play in giving people new ways of playing their own old game collection (with new visual upgrades, filters, etc) and help preserve any games that become unavailable, de-listed, etc
I really don't think Sony, for example, will really care if you play a digital copy of the God of War disc you purchase 20 years ago on a PS2 emulator because your real PS2 stopped reading discs... All they care is that is that you still support (by purchasing) the latest God of War game as well as any remasters of the original God of War on their current gen consoles.
It's a close call. I like them both. I chose the Western one by a hair. Always liked Capcom's box art for most of its Western games. They were generally great (Even Mega Man 1 and 2 had a so-bad-it's-good quality to them).
GameStop locations closing are nothing to celebrate. People losing their jobs is never a good thing and it's not good for their local communities either. Brick and mortar places where you can purchase physical games and other items are important. Choice and competition is always important.
I agree with all the comments about corporate greed and mismanagement. But not every GameStop is bad. The ones I've gone to have never been disrespectful to me nor too pushy.
At the end of the day, you get out of it what you choose. I never do their crappy trade-in deals. And I don't purchase their "new"-but-unsealed games just to save $5. I would buy used games that I had missed years earlier at cheap prices, and that worked out well for me. Matter of fact, I made a killing buying used PSP and GameCube games in the early 2010s and built my entire library for those two consoles.
And to the people who "embrace the all digital future"... You don't own those games - even if you paid $60 for them. If your Switch were to break down years from now and you had to redownload your purchased games on a different Switch, you're depending on Nintendo keeping their Switch services and eShop open. Ask Wii owners if they can redownload any of their purchased games. They can't. And that's what the game industry wants... For us to not own games and have to repurchase them over and over again (or rent them via Switch Online/PS Plus subscriptions).
Welcome news. We all want Super Mario Land and many many other first-party games that should've been added ages ago. But it's still great to see them add more Game Boy games as there doesn't seem to be too many available
I didn't know this arcade game existed. Definitely interested. I prefer the '80s turtles look/universe (comics or cartoon) or the 2003 turtles. But I can live with this 2012 turtle universe if the game plays well and is fun.
I played Killer Instinct and Battetoads in Battlemaniacs, in that order. And spent the most time on Killer Instinct. I also played some more Donkey Kong Country (another game developed by Rare).
I played all of them using the CRT filter option. I feel that the rendered graphics of these games in particular benefit from using it as they look smoother, and also closer to what they looked like back in the '90s on a real CRT TV.
What all these people complaining need to understand is that Microsoft OWNS most, if not all, of the Rare catalog. And Microsoft is one of Nintendo's competitors.
The fact that we are getting ANY of these games should be celebrated. Also, the Rare Replay compilation didn't include SNES games like Battetoads in Battlemaniacs or Killer Instinct, which we are now getting. There was a time I thought I would never see a Killer Instinct game on a Nintendo system ever again, so it's a pleasant surprise for me.
There are plenty of things to complain about the Switch Online service. Such as the lack of games that were developed and/or published by Nintendo that SHOULD be there (like Mother 3 finally getting localized, Super Mario Land 1 for the Game Boy, BS The Legend of Zelda, etc ). But whatever we can get from Rare needs to be appreciated.
While I'm excited and hope whatever games do eventually come out turn out great, I feel that Sega should focus more on making their classic games available to purchase on modern consoles. And not only Genesis/MD games... There are so many Arcade, Saturn, Dreamcast, Sega CD, Master System and Game Gear games that are still only available on those consoles.
I love the Sega Ages line on the Switch. But I think the games didn't sell as well as they hoped. They should at least do more complications like the Genesis/MD one and Sonic Origins.
I have to say, however, it is a disgrace that of all the games listed here only 2 of them are playable on the Switch... And one, is simply the NES port of the Arcade version of the other (Pinball).
I can understand the lack of DS and 3DS games on Switch due to the dual screen. But how hard is it to make some of the others games available for purchase? Or, at the very least, include them in the Switch Online rental service? These are Nintendo developed and/or published games after all.
Also, the best pinball game, according to this list, Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon... As of this writing, is impossible to legally purchase or play since the DSi virtual store and the 3DS eShop have closed down. So, if you didn't buy it years ago, you're out of luck. It's a slap in the face to every gamer who is now interested in purchasing the game (myself included) and a reminder of why physical media and game preservation are so important.
Super Metroid should be number 1. While Metroid Prime is an excellent game and great for what it did in taking the series to a 3D first-person perspective, Super Metroid is also an amazing game and it became the blueprint for a new genre (or sub-genre) of gaming that would be called "The Metroivania". And, along with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Super Metroid perfected this genre. No other Metroid game is as great or as important as Super Metroid in my opinion.
Hope they do this for the US and European versions of Mario RPG as well.
In my opinion, ANY game that costs $60 or more SHOULD include a physical instruction manual. These are things that we gamers need to be much more vocal about.
In a perfect world, they would include an option to switch between the new graphics and the original SNES graphics, and also let you switch between the new more accurate translation and the charming but imperfect Woolsey translation.
For $60, it's not too much to ask, in my opinion.
If I can play R-Type Dimensions on my PS3, and switch between the newer graphics/soundtracks and the original arcade graphics/soundtracks (for both R-Type 1 and 2) on the fly, at the touch of a button, there's no reason it couldn't be done on this Mario RPG remake.
I really feel this should be standard practice for most, if not all, remasters and remakes.
If this can somehow mean we can get the SuperNES' Killer Instinct and the N64's Killer Instinct Gold on the Switch eShop or at least Switch Online that would be great. As well as other games like Battletoads. We'll see.
For now, I'm glad I still have the original cartridges and the original consoles
Shame Metroid Dread didn't crack the top 10. It would've been nice to see it, along with Zelda: Link's Awakening remake and Metroid Prime remastered or maybe Fire Emblem.
How many Pokemon games do we need... Just my thoughts
Another collection I'll be getting sometime in the future. Great to see these classic games not getting lost to time and finding new life on modern consoles.
Very cool. I'm glad to see all these collections being done. I still have the original SNES and Sega Genesis JP games. So I'll pick this up eventually when it goes on sale.
It would be nice if there was some kind of USB mouse support for the First Person sections on the SNES Jurassic Park.
The first SNES F-Zero is the best one by a mile. I'm shocked it's not even in the top three at least... It's the most creative one that set the stage for every other sequel that followed. It showed off what the then-new Super NES' Mode 7 effects could do, creating an alternative to the "super scaler" arcade racing games of the era. It introduced all these memorable characters and their iconic vehicles. It has an amazing soundtrack that has been essentially rearranged or remixed in every other entry. And it's so good, that even the newest game, F-Zero 99, uses the SNES game and builds upon it, correcting it's only flaw (the lack of multiplayer).

Re: Poll: Will You Trade In Your Switch When Switch 2 Arrives?
Unless a Switch 1 trade covers the cost of 3/4ths the price of a Switch 2, I don't see the point.
It's better to keep my Switch 1 with all its games. And dedicate the space in the Switch 2 (and it's own SD card) for actual Switch 2 games.
