Not long after the first wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass arrived, an individual known as 'fishguy6564' was able to crack the DLC and apparently work out what Mario Kart game each of the future DLC tracks would be based on.
The original upload revealed the Turnip Cup would have Tour, SNES, N64 and DS courses. And the Propeller Cup would feature a Tour, GBA, Wii and mystery course. You can see this in the video tweet dating back to March:
In the end, the tracks announced for the Turnip Cup and Propeller Cup all matched up - with Nintendo revealing New York Minute, Mario Circuit 3, Kalimari Desert, Waluigi Pinball, Sydney Sprint, Snow Land, Mushroom Gorge and Sky-High Sundae for Wave 2.
Considering this was accurate, it's now got many Mario Kart fans wondering if the rest of the potential prefixes are correct. If you are interested to see what games will be represented, here's the possible lineup (via Nintendo Everything):
– Rock Cup: Tour, DS, GBA, 3DS
– Moon Cup: Tour, GameCube, ?, 3DS
– Fruit Cup: Tour, Wii, DS, ?
– Boomerang Cup: Tour, GameCube, GBA, Tour
– Feather Cup: Tour, Wii, GBA, Tour
– Cherry Cup: Tour, GameCube, SNES, ?
– Acorn Cup: Tour, Wii, ?, ?
– Spiny Cup: Tour, GameCube, ?, Wii
As you can see, there are quite a number of mystery tracks listed - which could be similar to Sky-High Sundae. Noticeably, there's no mention of Mario Kart 64 tracks, but it seems the '?' courses could also cover previous Mario Kart generations. Keep in mind, the list above has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo and even if it is accurate, it could still be subject to change.
What other tracks would you like to see added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's future DLC waves? Leave a comment down below.

I’m starting to think this DLC was done to keep Tour’s tracks from going to waste.
Is it futile to hope for those 3DS tracks to be Wuhu Loop/Maka Wuhu? Or MK7’s Rainbow Road? All the “long” courses in that one are top-tier IMO
To be honest I really don't mind, Mario Kart 8 is so old now that it's just nice to have some fresh tracks to race on whatever they happen to be.
I like most people would have preferred a Mario Kart 9 but I guess this is the next best thing.
I'm not an expansion pass member so opted to buy the DLC instead so I could keep it without worrying about paying a subscription.
My only complaint is that it feels like forever between the release of the waves
I’m actually fine with us getting tour tracks, this way when the app dies we will actually keep some of the tracks.
Please give us mk7s rainbow road, I love it so much!
As nice as a new entry would be, the formula established in Mario Kart 8 is practically flawless. I’d rather they find a way to make it a live service like Overwatch and just release new content regularly going forward.
This is what I'm expecting based on the prefix datamine.
Rock Cup: London Loop, Luigi's Mansion, Cheep Cheep Island, Rock Rock Mountain
Moon Cup: Vancouver Velocity, Mushroom City, Merry Mountain, 3DS Rainbow Road
Fruit Cup: Amsterdam Drift, Koopa Cape, Airship Fortress, New Nitro Track
Boomerang Cup: Singapore Speedway, Daisy Cruiser, Yoshi Desert, Berlin Byways
Feather Cup: Los Angeles Laps, Toad's Factory, Sunset Wilds, Bangkok Rush
Cherry Cup: Unreleased City Track, Dino Dino Jungle, Vanilla Lake 1 or 2, New Nitro Track
Acorn Cup: Unreleased City Track, Maple Treeway, 3DS Bowser's Castle, New Nitro Track
Spiny Cup: Unreleased City Track, Waluigi Stadium, New Nitro Track, Wii Rainbow Road
Obviously positions of the tracks are mostly uncertainties except for a few that I touch on later but generally feel good about the guesses.
I think Rio and Cairo are very likely city tracks to still come to Tour to represent South America and Africa, respectively. Not sure what another possible city could be. Maybe Beijing or Mexico City.
Datamines have suggested GBA Yoshi Desert and GCN Waluigi Stadium are coming to Tour.
Given that each wave so far has a track that has not been remade previously, Mushroom City and Yoshi Desert fit this requirement. I could see Toad's Factory as another not previously remade track. But that means cutting one of Koopa Cape, Maple Treeeay, or DK Summit. DK Summit is less iconic than the other two so I'm cutting it. I think Wave 6 will have two nitros to end on a high note, though.
I put almost all question marks as new nitros. I did add 3DS Bowser's Castle, though, because it would make sense here since MK8 Deluxe has no retro Bowser's Castles.
Vanilla Lake and Dino Dino Jungle are in the Coconut Mall ad. Rock Rock Mountain in the Rock Cup and 3DS Rainbow Road in the Moom Cup and to end the year on a beloved track make sense. Wii Rainbow Road will be a great sendoff to the DLC.
@LimitedPower Mario Kart 7's Rainbow Road is very likely to end 2022 on a high note. Also, it fits the moon theme of the cup perfectly.
@NerdyBoutKirby definitely. i think theres plenty of people who are curious about Tours new courses but not enough to play it on mobile. this is a nice way to branch out the mobile games content in a way we can definitively buy and own on switch
makes me wish we could own pocket camps items in acnh, those items are top tier stuff
@Wilforce Its called Mario kart tour. (Jk)
@Snatcher I actually enjoyed WT for about 6 months and occasionally go back to it for a quick fix. It’s just too much of a money grab though… The meta is too artificial and dependent on investing real money.
@Wilforce I agree with you, ai gave it a shot and it was just to much of an investment, when I just could have gone and play the real thing.
I still want Wario Stadium 64 (even if they do fix the evil trick everyone used to do back then with that big jump and a lightning bolt, lol) and Bowser's Castle 64, lol
I don't mind them not doing more 64 because it has a ton of tracks in 8 as it is. Of its 16 tracks six of them are in MK8, feels like a pretty healthy sample size as it is.
Granted if this holds then Double Dash will have 8 by the time it's all said and done. Though at least Double Dash can't be played on the Switch as it is.
@Ade117 I want Toad's Factory to happen just so we can get a Mario Kart 8-style jazzy live remake of the music. Sadly I don't see it happening because I think all the moving parts in the track make it too complex for MK Tour.
Just give us Mario Kart 9 already to take full advantage of the next gen power of the Switch.
This is a game that me and the fam used to play quite alot in the evenings but once youve done all the tracks a gazillion times it starts to get stale. Anything extra in my mind is a bonus. Ime yet to buy the DLC but i think the time is right now season 2 is dropping. Hopefully those 16 new track and the rest to follow will breath a little life back in to the game and we can dust the cart off.
Wow, the really need to speed up their release schedule for these, otherwise it's going to take like 3 years before they have all been released. by that time the Switch wile surely have a successor!?
@Paddle1 The new Singapore track has Toad factory's conveyer belts!! So I, and a lot of peopl, hope it's a sign!!
There's still a track from the previous wave that didn't make it Tour. (The DS one with all the trafic.)
That makes me really hopefull we'll keep getting tracks that are even new to tour!
In both wave 1 and 2 the last track was the non-city tour one. In the next it seems to be a 3DS track. My guess is that will be rainbow road, that's why is the last instead of a ??? one.
Makes sense to me that there would be no more N64 tracks considering that the base game had a good deal of them already. Kalamari Desert is a fine final choice. I hope another Rainbow Road or 2.
With all the the content we're getting, it's just setting Mario Kart 9 up for disappointment. 8 Deluxe will have so much to live up to.
@DaniPooo we already know they will be released by the end of 2023.
@Wilforce
I've not spent any money on it and have done very well in the rankings etc. You absolutely do not need to spend any money on it.
Does it matter what the courses are? Even if they're uglier than the base game they're still tons of fun!
...that and also the fact that it's a season pass, we're stuck with what we're getting.
Personally, I don't care at all for the Tour tracks because they're for the most part based on real world locations and it breaks the immersion in the Mario universe. They could had saved them all for the next Mario Kart 10 installment instead of a few making it in through DLC and giving less focus on retro courses outside of Tour.
Really hoping for DS Airship Fortress to make the jump. It's always been one of my favorites.
@Ade117 it's a really good selection, I'll admit, but instead of Rock Rock Mountain from 7,I would prefer something like Wario Shypyard or Rosalina's Ice World. We already have lots of "canyon-mountain" courses with falling rocks, but Wario Shypyard is mostly underwater, something only Dolphin Shoals do, but they are completely different, and Rosalina's Ice World, while being another ice track is the only Rosalina's one.
This makes me excited for the Moon Cup ending with Rainbow Road (3DS) in the next wave, and the Spiny Cup ending with Rainbow Road (Wii) next year!
Love this DLC, always liked the Tour tracks, and although they are fun on the mobile, always wanted them with the traditional controls on my T.V.
Would love to see the Mario Kart Arcade courses to come at some point.
@bonjong23 To be fair, it's still not guaranteed no more N64 tracks are coming. The "?" prefixes could be ANYTHING, including 64 courses. But yeah, if no more are coming, that's fine. The only others I would like added are DKs Jungle Parkway and Koopa Troopa Beach.
It is a shame we may not be getting any more N64 courses... I was really hoping for Bowser's Castle or Banshee Boardwalk. From MKWii course we get, I hope they add Moonview Highway and Koopa Cape.
Now that Waluigi Pinball is a sure thing, my next wish (while also hoping the datamine doesn't confirm the end of more MK64 courses) would be Banshee Boardwalk.
Wii Rainbow Road is my only true request
It doesn't feel realistic to have an entire year of no N64 and 3DS. The spread of Tour city tracks and "?" in some cases also feels unrealistic (e.g. Boomerang and Acorn) so I'm very skeptical of this list. I'd be more likely to believe it if the Moon Cup gets 3DS Rainbow Road.
@Joeynator3000 This was one of my favourite tracks from Mario Kart 64, too. My friends and I banned the use of lightening bolts at the top of that jump, so it very quickly became completely littered with banana skins! 🤣
there is also a way to see what the Tour & ? tracks are
as the Tour tracks are the city courses
while the ? tracks are from/made for Tour, but aren't city courses
note, Ninja Hideaway, is from Tour, not a city course, and still listened as gameless, or a ? track
Four more chances for Wario Colusseum
@vio yeah, most people just take for granted that the ??? are the non-city tour tracks, but there are 6 of them (apart from Ninja Hodway and the new one). They released 3 in Tour in 3 years, I don't see them releasing other 6 original non-city courses in the next year and a half. 2, 3, maybe 4... but 6 are just too much. Probably some of them really are 64 or 7 corses.
@NerdyBoutKirby I think so too
@Kimyonaakuma I agree! Ninja Hideaway is my favourite track in the game!
Wario's Stadium track from N64. I frigging love that track man.
@SilverM idk though the MKT dev team have been on a roll lately. There are also loads of track prefixes found in the files like Mobyi, Mobor, Mobat etc.
Dataminers are just boring spoiling gits.
@LimitedPower I'm here hoping for the two Wuhu courses as well. Those are probably now my top two wants in the Booster Course Pass, as my two other wants are getting fulfilled very shortly (Waluigi Pinball + New York Minute).
@VancouverVelocityFan well, I wouldn't complain of course, they are basically new tracks after all, and if they are good as ninja hideway, then the more the better.
Big mistake that they didn't include new characters and costumes as well.
@Member_the_game that's probably why they're releasing it in waves so instead of people asking where mario kart 9 is they'll be asking when the next wave of dlc for mario kart 8 is
SNES Ghost Houses and Bowsers Castles and I'll be happy. But honestly all of these have been great so far. I also like the Tour circuits as these are new to me having not played Tour. And best thing is it's all free
Yep, like I said on the other article... no more N64 tracks it seems.
So only two more chances for Airship Fortress, huh? That aside, this looks pretty accurate! Can’t wait for more tracks
Those mystery tracks could either be a retro track, a Tour track, or a brand new track. Ninja Hideaway is from Tour but was originally a mystery track.
@NerdyBoutKirby Mario Kart Tour is yet another game is that is competent, it's good on its own right, but then they add a coat of microtransactions and grinding that for many, ruins the game.
Also, the sad thing is that Mario Kart Tour has the best character roster in the whole series, no other Mario Kart game has characters like Pauline, Dixie Kong, Dr. Mario, King Bob-omb and Chargin' Chuck, and the characters have many cool alternate outfits that have their own character slots, however, the reason why this happened is that people are paying a lot of money for those.
@SilverM I agree the more great tracks the better. I’m glad we can finally play the Tour tracks whenever too!
@Ade117 Great track predictions! Like you I also took the datanine prefixes to mean there's no more N64 tracks, but actually, I don't now believe that's true.
Looking at the remaining N64 tracks - they've all never featured in a previous Mario Kart (yes, except 64 lol) OR in Tour. I therefore believe they WILL arrive on Tour over the next 18 months and then also come across in one of the Waves where there is currently ???
@KindofaBigDeal I disagree. Dataminers are unsung heroes imo. They just want to know what the product they're purchasing is, seeing how companies don't like telling you.
I'd rather know what DLC I'm buying before purchasing a season pass. If the tracks don't interest me, I'd rather not buy the whole pack. Same with characters in fighting games. If you think it's a "big deal" that you know what you're getting, then why don't you go grocery shopping with your eyes closed? I'll never understand the idea that you can be "spoiled" about what you're buying.
Sure, the reveal can be exciting, but I don't think it's worth getting angry over. To me, it makes sense that someone would want to know what they're getting before-hand seeing how they're spending their hard earned cash on it.
Personally I just tired of MK8, the poor item balancing online ruins the competitive fun of the older games
I still want to see the GameCube tracks Dino Dino Jungle, Daisy Cruiser and DK Mountain. If the details about future DLC tracks are correct we have one GameCube track each next wave. Dino Dino Jungle seems likely as it is already present in Mario Kart Tour.
@Ade117 Honestly, I'm hoping not Wii Rainbow Road. Imagine if, instead of that, we get an entirely new Rainbow Road that takes parts of every past Rainbow Road, remixing and reincorporating them into one giant track, with the graphics changing between each segment to reflect the original game it came from. That would be my ideal send off for the pack.
@AlexanderDaniels I 100% agree with you. These courses are fun enough but I’d much rather have something from the mushroom kingdom.
@nocdaes that's not true. Every 64 course has reappeared in a Mario Kart except for Wario Staduim
Luigi Raceaway in 7
Moo Moo Farm on DS
Koopa Troopa Beach on 7 (and Tour)
Frappe Snowland on DS (and Tour)
Mario Raceway on Wii
Sherbet Land on Wii
Bowser's Castle on Wii
Jungle Parkway on Wii
Banshee Boardwalk on DS
I'd rather have a timeline for their release to be honest.
@johnvboy Ive always argued for the arcade games especially w 8 already having gyro controls and labo being a thing. Sadly I doubt it.
All these Tour courses are having me believe that this DLC exists primarily to bring more people into the mobile game. Sorry Nintendo, not gonna happen.
Could Moon Cup 3DS course and Spiny Cup Wii course be Rainbow Roads? 🤩
Great news for Double Dash; sad news for the original…
@lighteningbolt79 While it is possible to do well without using real money, it is discouraging to see where I’m missing out in my performance by not paying. I try not to think about it, but I do notice from time to time - especially when nearing the end of the weekly challenges and trying to max stars earned.
Searching my memory banks. Very interesting
@lighteningbolt79 That's why I said they need to speed it up.
Do the math, if they keep releasing two per year then they won't be able to meet that schedule.
they release two cups each time. and there is 12 cups in total.
that's four cup a year. 12/4 = 3. So three years.
That's the end of 2024.
And by that time the Switch is like 7 years old and I think it will have a successor by that time.
Or at the very least I think a successor will have been announced.
Release dates:
N64 (release 1996) to gamecube: 5 years
Gamecube (release 2001) to Wii: 5 years
Wii (release 2006) to Wii U: 6 years
Wii U (release 2012) to Switch: 5 years
Switch (release 2017) to ???: 6-7 years?
